Gibbs' undercover apartment
Gibbs immediately dove into action and snatched his bag from beside the couch.
"Let's go." He said and they left the apartment not even bothering to lock the door knowing that they would never be back.
Abbey started down the stairs forgoing the elevator and took the steps two at a time. Gibbs matched her pace and they quickly made it to the bottom. Slowly she pushed open the back door of the building and peered outside both ways before finally opening the door and vacating the complex.
Gibbs grabbed Abbey's elbow and steered her to the left. "This way."
"Where are we going?" She asked.
Without turning around Gibbs answered. "Anywhere but here."
On high alert the two of them briskly walked, darting between buildings waiting for an ambush around every corner. After a couple of hours they reached the edge of the city. Buildings became sparse which meant less cover for them to hide. Night was falling but they kept walking. Thankfully the nights were becoming much warmer since June started.
Houses and factories turned into bare land quicker than they thought it would. Most everything they could see was just farmland. In the distance Abbey spotted what looked like a barn and turned to Gibbs. He gave a slight nod and they headed towards it. Neither of them had spoken much during the trip except for directions once in a while.
They approached the barn cautiously, hoping to find it vacant. Abbey signaled for Gibbs to keep watch and she approached the door. Slowly it rolled open giving off a fair amount of dust.
Abbey entered the barn with Gibbs right behind her. There were a few pieces of equipment and a work bench all of which looked like it hadn't been touched in years.
"I think it's safe to say we won't be finding anyone here." Gibbs commented.
Abbey looked over at him and shook her head. "It's someone finding us here that I'm worried about."
For the first time in hours Abbey sat down on the cleanest part of the floor she could find. She leaned her head back against the wall and sighed. Gibbs walked over and crouched down in front of her. Abbey looked up at him confused. His hand reached over and brushed against the cut on her cheek that she had forgotten about. The blood on it long dried up, but still tender to the touch. She flinched and brushed his hand away.
"I'm fine Gibbs, really."
"Yeah I'm sure you are." He moved to the side of her and sat down taking advantage of the time they had to rest. "What happened Abbey?"
Abbey bit the inside of her cheek like she always did when she was thinking. "Nothing good Gibbs."
