Gibbs' undercover apartment
"So, if you're not FBI what are you?" Abbey asked.
The man she had just met sat in the chair across from the couch that she occupied.
"How do you know I'm not FBI?" He questioned back.
Abbey smiled. "Just a feeling I suppose, but you didn't answer my question."
"You're right." He said. "If you're FBI you must know Tobias Fornell."
Even though it sounded like more of a statement he paused and waited for her to answer.
"I've heard of him and have seen a couple of case files with his name on them. We work in different departments though." He seemed to not want to give any information so she stopped being so generous with hers.
He laughed a bit. "Don't tell me they sent some desk jockey on an undercover op."
"I don't sit behind a desk, thank you. I am more than qualified to be here." The fire was noticeable behind her words.
Silence settled between the two. If he wasn't going to talk to her it was going to be hard to pass him off as her contact. Finally, after a few minutes he spoke surprising Abbey.
"NCIS." He said but nothing more.
She looked at him. "BAU."
"You deal with serial killers?"
"And you deal with the Navy." She nodded her head. "I should have known from the haircut."
"Marines don't allow much else." He ran a hand over his head. "Keeps me cool too."
She smiled at him. He was without a doubt going to be interesting to work with. "You never told me your name."
"Gibbs, going by Charles around here though." He held out his hand. The first friendly gesture since they met.
She leaned forward and took his hand in her own. "Abbey, cover name is Emma." They separated and she leaned back. If this was going to work they had to learn to trust each other. Abbey scooted over to one end of the couch and patted the empty space next to her. "Well Charles, we better get to know each other."
He sat still for a moment thinking. Getting up he went and sat next to her. "Let's hear what you've got.
