Present Day
?
The first thing she felt was a pounding headache. Abbey went to reach up to rub her forehead, but found both of her hands unable to move. Her eyes opened in panic, but she was force to squint when the light made her head pound worse.
Slowly her eyes adjusted to the light and Abbey was able to take in her surroundings. A familiar feeling came flooding from her memory as she recognized where she was. She had only been here once, but she would never forget it. About a month ago a new hired hand of Viktor's was caught selling surplus weapons on the side. This was the room where he died.
Twisting her wrists Abbey tried to break the bonds that were holding her. She felt the cool metal of handcuffs and quickly realized that she wasn't going anywhere. Her captors were taking no chances. Her shoulders hurt from her arms being stretched around the back of the chair she was tied to.
Abbey quickly lost focus on trying to get herself free when she felt something move behind her. Hoping she was right about who it was she spoke.
"Gibbs?" Her voice came out horse and dry.
"Yeah Abbey, I'm here." She heard him say from behind her. "You alright?"
"I'm fine. Are you…" Before she could finish a door slammed open from somewhere behind her and she tensed.
"Good, you are both awake. No fun when someone misses the show." Viktor said and appeared in Abbey's line of view. "Hello Emma."
Abbey locked eyes with him, but didn't say a word. A large smile appeared on his face.
"Not like you to stay silent, but you'll talk soon enough." He left her view again, but continued speaking. "You both will talk."
Abbey struggled against the chair trying to turn and see where Viktor went.
"Ah ah, you won't be getting out of those handcuffs." Viktor mocked.
Against her better judgment Abbey was unable to stay quiet.
"You're just afraid that I'll kick your ass again if you let me out."
Viktor chuckled as he crouched in front of her. "It looks like you came out with more bruises that I did, Krasavista." He reached out and ran his thumb over the gash his ring had left on her cheek. Abbey quickly turned her head, but he grabbed her chin forcing her to face him. "Tell me why you are in Russia."
"I thought it would be fun to see the sights since I've never been." She cockily answered.
Abbey felt Gibbs tap the back of her hand warning her not to go too far. Viktor stood up and began pacing again.
"You know, I still find you charming. It's a shame you will die here." Viktor stated causally.
The door to the room squeaked open and slammed shut again. Abbey turned her head to see that Dimitri had joined them; his left arm had a bandage wrapped around it near the shoulder from where Gibbs had grazed him with a bullet.
"I will ask you again." Viktor started. "What are two American agents doing in Russia?"
When neither of them answered Dimitri walked towards Gibbs and Abbey heard his fist connect with Gibbs' face and he grunted.
Abbey began struggling again. "Don't!" She yelled.
Viktor held up his hand stopping Dimitri from whatever he was going to do next. "She's right." He said and a confused look settled over her face. "She won't talk if you hurt him, but maybe he will."
Abbey's eyes opened in fear. When they had first met Abbey and Gibbs discussed what they would do in a situation like this. They both agreed to wait for the opportune moment to strike, even if that meant taking a couple of punches. She could see in Viktor's eyes that it was going to be more than a few though. She had betrayed him. Chances were she wasn't getting out of her alive.
Dimitri approached her with a key in his hand. He bent down and unlocked the cuffs that were around her ankles then stood up dragging Abbey with him. Her arms contorted painfully to fit over the back of the chair and she hissed in pain.
"Leave her alone Viktor." Gibbs commanded.
"Don't worry special agent Gibbs. I won't harm her. I am leaving Dimitri in charge of that. He was very upset after you shot him. I told him that he needs to release some of that anger, but I will be back." Viktor walked to the door that Abbey could now see and waved. "Goodbye…Abbey." He said and exited the room.
Before she could react Abbey was thrown up against the stone wall by Dimitri. Her head connected with it painfully hard and she yelled out in pain, her legs crumpling beneath her.
She lay on the cold floor, her eyes trying to regain focus and she heard a chair scrape on the floor. Dimitri turned Gibbs to face her and she noticed that he was bound just like she was.
"I don't want you to miss this." Dimitri said to Gibbs with a smirk.
Abbey rolled from her back to her stomach in an attempt to kneel and stand up which proved hard with her hands still cuffed behind her back. She made it to her knees before Dimitri came back over and kicked his foot into her side hard enough to send her sprawling to her back again.
"You bastard!" Gibbs yelled. "Leave her alone!" He desperately struggled against his restraints but got nowhere.
Abbey looked up at Gibbs. "It's ok. I'll be fine." She spoke through her grimace. He said nothing else knowing that he could do nothing but egg Dimitri on further. His eyes locked with hers, full of concern.
Dimitri kicked his foot out again connecting with the same spot. Abbey clenched her jaw to keep from yelling as tears sprung to her eyes from the pain. With the third blow she felt at least one rib crack and her breath came in gasps.
Abbey tried to roll and shield her side but Dimitri reached down and hauled her to her feet throwing her into the wall again. This collision left Abbey seeing stars and she could feel blood trickling down the back of her neck. The edge of her vision began to blur and she was pretty sure that one of her shoulders was dislocated from the awkward angle of the blow.
In that moment Abbey started to realize that Dimitri may not leave her alive long enough for either of them to talk. In a panic she tried to sweep his feet out from under him, but poor balance made her an easy target.
Dimitri dodged her leg and shoved both of her shoulders driving her to the ground. Abbey looked Gibbs in the eyes and Dimitri kicked her once more. She saw his lips move but didn't hear any sound come out as she was quickly losing consciousness. She recognized him calling out her name and then she passed out, not even feeling the final blow.
