I do not own the Code Geass and Gate – Jieitai Kare no Chi nite, Kaku Tatakeri franchises. Otherwise, I wouldn't have been doing this now, would I?! Both franchises belong to their respective creators and I am writing this because of my hobby and passion only, not for profit.
Responses to Readers' Comments:
The following responses are necessary for the fanfiction's progress:
Coment9: Yes, there will be other units with clear names and numbers like the 57th Mechanized Infantry Battalion. As for what do the Britannian soldiers look like, I will leave that to your imagination since they are more diverse than their canon counterparts. Their gear, weapons, and equipment are more advanced and tactical-looking compared to their canon counterparts in the anime since this is the 22nd century.
SniperVTK4: You know what? You have some really good ideas for an advanced military in science fiction. Your idea on M53 Onslaught System is very interesting but it is not needed for the moment. I think I will give it a try once I explore more of the Code Geass Alpha 121 universe. If you want to, we discuss more fascinating ideas on writing an advanced interstellar military. I'm also working on a Halo fanfiction so I think that we have A LOT to discuss.
Chatus: Yes, I was actually inspired by the character Hawkgirl from the Justice League Animated Series in early 2000s. There will be more easter eggs that reference other franchises as well, so stay tuned!
Ashford Academy Dormitory
Terran Calendar: August 26, 2135
Ashford Academy was one of the most prestigious schools within Britannian Mainland. It was located in the Westbrook Town, a small town dedicated solely for academic purposes on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Along with the Academy, there were also several other schools and colleges built within the town.
It was for this reason why the town was renowned as the Western Academy Town. Thanks to the Empire's favorable educational policies, students from across the world who studied at these institutions chose to live in this town for the duration of their study. It was here where many talented and exceptional individuals have graduated and entered the work force to further improve the Empire in every way.
Fortunately for the students, the town as well as the majority of Los Angeles remained untouched by the Saderan invaders since it was practically on the other side of the metropolis. However, the same could not be said for many of their family members. Right now, over one third of the students were weeping and mourning for their loved ones after the news of their deaths finally reached the students. The townspeople and state authority were doing everything they could to help the troubled students.
One of them was Kallen Stadtfeld who was crying her eyes out inside her dorm room. After the Battle of Ainsworth Palace, she along with Suzaku Kusanagi, Euphemia li Britannia, Nunnally vi Britannia, Carine ne Britannia, Sayoko Shinozaki, Milly Ashford and Rivalz Cardemonde were evacuated to Westbrook Town by Lelouch's Royal Guards using Lelouch's emergency shuttle. The town was protected by a battalion of the Britannian Army so they had nothing to worry about. When she tried to call her older brother and father, no one answered. It wasn't until her house maid Estella and uncle Samuel called that she received the devastating news.
Her father and brother had wanted to surprise her so they drove to Los Angeles to celebrate of her scoring top scores in the Knightmare Frame Training Course. When the Saderans attacked Los Angeles, they were caught right in the middle of it. According to the police, their pickup truck crashed into a building when one of the dinosaur-like creatures released by the Saderans attacked the streets they were on.
They escaped the burning vehicle and ran into a mall where thousands of people were also hiding. When the enemy infantry stormed the mall, they joined in the defenders to protect the vulnerable women and children inside. Before the military arrived and wiped out the invaders, they were already dead. They, along with some brave police officers and armed civilians were decapitated and had their heads put on spikes by the barbarian invaders as a twisted display of power.
Kallen's mother lost her life in the Koslovia War when her evacuation shuttle was shot down on Mars by the Koslovians. Deep down, she was slightly grateful for that small fact because she knew that such news would destroy her mother.
However, that certainly didn't make the fact she had no one in her family left any better. She had lost everything in just one single day. She was so devastated by the news that she couldn't bring herself to go retrieve their bodies for funeral. She had to leave that to her uncle and his family. The funeral was scheduled for tomorrow. Enough time for her to grieve.
Even now, she couldn't believe that something like this had happened to her family. She slapped herself many times, hoping that it was all a nightmare. When her cheeks were bright red and her tears ran dry, she locked herself inside her room and refused to acknowledge anyone knocking her door.
After going through the five stages of grief, Kallen had only one thing in her mind. Vengeance. She wanted revenge. She wanted to murder the animals who had taken everything from her and so many others. She didn't care if the ones responsible for her family's deaths were already dead or rotting behind bars. As long as she could join in on the slaughter of these animals, she was content. But the problem was how. How could she do it when she wasn't even a soldier? Sure, she had top scores in her Knightmare Frame Training Course at the Academy but it was just training exercises.
Ever since she was little, Kallen has admired Knightmare Frames and their pilots. Despite her family's protest, she wanted to become an excellent pilot when she grew up and served in the Britannian Armed Forces to make her family proud and fulfill her wish to her late mother. When Ashford Industries started a Beta Knightmare Pilot Program to give scholarships to exceptional students, she immediately took the opportunity. As soon as she sat inside a Knightmare's cockpit, she was in her elements and surpassed most of her peers in the program. As a result, she won the scholarships for Ashford Academy and started her college life there.
After thinking about it for another hour, she decided that she would use her exceptional skills as a Knightmare pilot to get her revenge. She would even use her self-defense skills and martial arts taught by her father and uncle to accomplish her goal. As she wiped away her tears and washed herself, she heard a knock on her door.
"Kallen, are you okay?" A voice called out to her. It was Lelouch, one of her classmates.
The relationship between her and Lelouch was strange. At first, she thought he was just another rich spoiled college brat who would abuse his privileges without a second thought. However, she was soon proven wrong when she saw how humble and down-to-earth the young man was. She didn't even know he was a member of the Imperial Family until Queen Gabrielle visited him and his younger sister at school one day.
Despite his social status, Lelouch was an honest and respectable student who treated others with genuine respect and dignity. He even refused riding in one of those fancy limousines to school like many students descended from their noble lineage. Instead, he opted for public transit, with disguised Royal Guard escorts not far behind of course. Kallen surmised that he didn't have that much of a choice in that matter anyway given who he was.
When she finally mustered the courage to talk to him properly, Kallen couldn't help but feel drawn to the young Prince of Britannia. Every now and then, she spotted loneliness and sadness within his eyes. After over a whole year of studying together, she has considered him as one of her closest friends. Given her reserved nature, that was already saying a lot.
Opening the door, she was greeted with Lelouch and Milly who stood in the hallway and were obviously worried about her. One of Lelouch's Royal Guards stood not far from them.
"Milly told me what happened to your father and brother… I came here to check on you," Lelouch said. "Are you…?" He was interrupted when she suddenly hugged him, surprising even Milly and Villetta.
"Kallen… are you…" Lelouch stuttered.
"Please, Lelouch… just… let me stay like this for a while!" Kallen said.
Watching from the sideline, Milly felt the urge to tease her cute juniors but she knew that this was not the right time. The awkward moment remained for almost half a minute until Kallen finally let go of Lelouch. "Let's talk inside!" She said to the two. They nodded and entered while Villetta waited outside.
After sitting inside Kallen's messy living room, Milly finally said. "We know that nothing we say could help ease your pain right now. But is there anything we can do to help you?"
Kallen let out a breath to steady herself and said. "I have a favor to ask you two."
Secret BSIA Facility – Part 1
When Count Formal and his men were captured by this nation's warriors, they were shoved into one metal carriage after another. The distance they have travelled was also very far since they sat on one large metal carriage for at least several hours. After reaching their destination, they were all blindfolded by black bags until they were put inside their cells.
Although he was here as their prisoner, he couldn't help but admire everything he has seen about the otherworld nation. The impossibly large and tall buildings, metal carriages that drove themselves, large towers that reached the heavens, massive flying ships, and so many more made his head spin as he tried to comprehend what he was looking at.
When he was finally placed in a prison cell, he was prepared for torture and all kinds of interrogation techniques. To his surprise, none of that happened to him. He did hear that the Saderan imperials received much rougher and worse treatments than he and his men did. So far, the only thing they did to him was drew some of his blood using some kind of sharp transparent tubes. It hurt a little but he could bear the pain. The same also happened to the other prisoners. They were also required to change into orange suits.
He was even more surprised when they actually gave him edible food. Compared to the rations he had been eating prior to the Empire's invasion of this world, the food made by these people was practically godsend. He could only pray to the Gods that his men received the same treatment as him. He could care less if the imperials starved to death however, given everything they have done.
After who-knows-how-long of waiting, two guards finally came and took him somewhere. Again, he was blindfolded so he had no idea where he was. His wrists were cuffed with metal restraints and he was dragged somewhere for what seemed like hours. Suddenly, he was forced to sit down and the blindfold was removed. He had to shield his eyes as the sudden brightness almost blinded him. His restraints were chained into the chair he was sitting on. Although he couldn't see it, he could feel something was being attached to his arm.
Once his eyes adjusted to the light, he could see that he was sitting in the middle of a large gray room with a table in front of him. The wall in front of him was a massive mirror. There were four guards inside the room, each of whom stood at the corner. Although they were wearing some kind of mask, the Count could feel their eyes staring at him. Aside from the guards, there were two tall men wearing dark clothing. They also had some very strange black eye coverings whose function the Count couldn't figure out. Unlike him and his people, the men had shorter and darker hair.
"Can you understand me?" One of the men said. The fact that he could speak Falmarian Common surprised the Count greatly. If he remembered correctly, most people outside the continent would need at least a few months to fully learn the language. And yet, these people seemed to have learnt it in only a few days.
"Y-Yes… I can understand you," Karvett finally said after several seconds of being dumbfounded.
"Very good," The man said and took a seat across the table in opposite of the Count. "Now that we can communicate properly, I believe an introduction is in order. What is your name?"
When meeting someone, it was courtesy to introduce oneself before asking the other person's name. However, given the circumstances, Count Formal couldn't really complain. "Karvett Formal, Head of House Formal, and the Lord of the City State of Ithalica."
"Oh, so you are a Noble. I knew you would be of use to us based on your appearance, manners and behaviors." The man said, seemingly satisfied with the Count's answer. "Apologies for my lack of manners! My name is Smith, an Agent from the Britannian Secret Intelligence Agency. That is all you need to know from me for now."
"Britannian?" Count Formal said since he was confused with the name.
"Yes, the United Empire of Britannia or the Britannian Empire for short. The country your people invaded a few days ago." The man said nonchalantly.
The Count began to sweat nervously because it seemed that the Saderan Empire had just invaded and angered the Empire of this world. Given everything he has seen in the city alone, the Count of House Formal knew that this "Britannian Empire" was extremely powerful and far more advanced than the Saderan Empire in almost every way, perhaps even more than any Empires or Kingdoms from his world.
"And now, the Emperor and our people demand answers and justice for the fallen. And I advise you to answer our questions truthfully." The man said. Count Formal could only nod in response. "Good! First question, why did your people savagely attack the City of Los Angeles? What did you gain from such an atrocious attack?"
"It… It was not my decision to make, Lord Smith!" Karvett answered frantically. "There is another Empire in my world, the Divine Empire of Sadera. My city is part of the Saderan Empire. Since my city is one of the most prosperous city-states, the Emperor summoned me to help them conquer the lands of your world. I… I cannot disobey his orders. If I refuse, the Empire would burn my city and enslave my people." Karvett knew that he had no choice but to plead with this world's Empire to spare his city from their wrath. "Please believe me, My Lord! I and my people have no desire to conquer your world. We really…"
He was cut off when Agent Smith put up his hand to stop him. "Alright, first off, don't call me 'Lord', Count Formal! You can just call me 'Mister Smith'. Second, what do you mean 'your people'? Aren't you part of this 'Saderan Empire'?"
"I-I understand, Lord… Mister Smith!" Karvett calmed down a little bit. "For your question, no, we hold no loyalty to the Saderan Empire. Around five centuries ago, we used to be an independent city state which prospered greatly thanks to trade with smaller nations throughout the continent. When the Saderan Empire expanded their borders and invaded the region where our city was in, we fought to last men and were conquered by them. However, the Empire saw our value as a trade city so they allow us some level of autonomy as long as we swear fealty to them. In reality, they just prosper off of our backs and always demand gifts and tributes from us. As time went on, we grew more and more resentful toward the Empire but there was nothing we could do about it."
As the Count continued to recount his stories and the camera continued recording the conversation, Agent Smith could see that the man was genuine and there was no hint of deception in his voice. Either he was telling the truth or he was very good at lying. It didn't really matter since the lie detector was working to its full capacity to determine that.
"For centuries, we have continued to serve the empire out of the fear that they would enslave our people if we don't." The Count continued to speak. His voice was filled with sadness as he recalled some painful memories. "Whenever they went on conquest or experienced some disasters, they would demand two-thirds of our harvest which almost resulted in our starvation. Twenty years ago, we have to give them one thousand healthy young boys to serve as disposable troops for the Imperial Army in some faraway conflicts. None of them returned. Then seventeen years ago, my father who used to be the former Count was accused of treason without any proof whatsoever and he was executed publicly to make an example out of us. And my mother… who was a half-Elf was forced to marry the same accursed Imperial Senator who accused and executed my father because of her beauty. As soon as she was taken away, she committed suicide and…"
At this point, Count Formal had his head on the table. The pain of retelling his memories was far too much for him. He wanted to add more but it was too much for him. He then reached the explanation for his current situation. "I'm really sorry for the innocent lives my men have taken. A quick death is the only thing we can do for them. If I didn't do what the Imperial Field Marshal said, I fear what would happen to my city and my daughters and… and…" He couldn't say it anymore since just imagining that scenario would break him.
There was a long pause as Agent Smith digested all the information he was given by the Count. Smith gazed over to his colleague who was still looking at his datapad. His colleague looked up from the datapad and nodded at Smith. With that nod, Smith returned to the Count who was still struggling to think of anything to say to the Britannians. "A very compelling story, Count Formal! And… we believe you!"
Those last three words almost made the Count jump from his seat. Not that he could do it anyway. "What? W-Why… why would you believe me so easily?"
"We have ways of telling whether you are lying or not," Smith explained. "The device attached to your arm monitors your heart rate, body temperature, and blood pressure. Thanks to it, we know that you are telling the truth."
Karvett looked down on his arms and saw two black arm bands around his wrists. They were made of some kind of material that he couldn't recognize. He was so occupied with everything in the room that he never noticed them. However, he was marveled at how such devices could tell whether he was lying or not simply by monitoring his heartbeat and body temperature. Just then, he remembered something very important he almost forgot ever since being here.
"What about the Tarrasque? Before we were captured by your people, Tiberiaz had called for that monster to be released to this world." Karvett said nervously.
The two BSIA agents looked at each other for a second, wondering what the man was talking about.
"Can you describe this Tar… whatever it is… to us? We've already guarded the Gate for several days and we haven't seen anything yet." Smith asked.
Karvett tried his best to give the Britannians every detail he could remember about the monster. After giving the description, Agent Smith had a puzzled look on his face. He then typed something into his datapad.
After finding the image he was looking for, Agent Smith slid the datapad over to Count Formal. "Are you perhaps referring to this… creature?"
Karvett squinted his eyes a little to gaze at the picture on the rectangular device given by the Agent. He almost fainted when he finally realized what he was looking at. It was the picture of the Tarrasque or rather, what was left of it. The picture displayed the Tarrasque's head. Its eyes were clearly dead while its mouth remained open. The rest of its body was almost gone as there was nothing left but bits and pieces of bones, flesh and exposed organs. There were hundreds of burnt marks and gaping holes across the creature's head and body. Next to the creature's head was several humans who stood next to it and looked as if they were examining it or something.
"You… You killed a Tarrasque? A fully grown one at that?" Karvett almost shouted in shock. He was so shocked that he overlooked the fact that he was looking at such a lively picture on a seemingly magical device.
"So this thing is called a 'Tarrasque'?" Agent Smith said nonchalantly as he retrieved his datapad. "Yes, we killed it. The thing gave our forces some trouble but it was no match for our ship-based weaponry. Are there more of these creatures in your world?"
"Y-Yes… but they are very, very rare! They are seen only once every one-hundred years when they go hunting or search for mates to breed." At this point, Karvett was numb with the absurd achievements of these Britannians. "The empire… managed to capture some of the juvenile Tarrasques and use them for conquest around sixty years ago. As far as I know, only two of them have been used since then. These creatures are very powerful and aggressive. Just one of them can decimate entire countries all by itself. The Empire lost almost an entire Legion when one of them went on a rampage. They are said to be as powerful as the ancient dragons. And yet… you were able to…" Karvett trailed off as he could no longer process the reality he was facing.
"Well, it's good to hear that there aren't a lot of these things running around." Agent Smith said. "Otherwise, it will give us a lot of trouble when we cross to the other side of the Gate. It's time to get back on track. Before we ask you anymore questions, there is someone who would like to meet you."
Agent Smith stood up from his chair and walked over to his colleague, confusing the Count a little. Just then, the mirror in front of him changed its properties and became a transparent window, revealing some people on the other side of the room. Karvett quickly realized that these people have been watching him from that side of the room from the very beginning.
The tall blond man who stood in the middle of the group was dressed differently from the others. His clothing, mannerism, and appearance radiated power and authority itself. The Count believed that this man must be some kind of high-ranking Britannian Noble. However, the next introduction proved him wrong.
"A pleasure of meet you, Count Formal from Ithalica!" The man said through the room's speakers. "I am Schneizel el Britannia, the Second Prince of the Britannian Empire."
Karvett was speechless at the fact that one of the Princes of this Empire was willing to meet him, a mere Lord of a medium-sized city. "I-It's an honor… to meet you, Your Highness!"
"Now that pleasantry is out of the way," Prince Schneizel said as he stepped closer to the bulletproof window. "Considering everything you have told us so far, I won't beat around the bush and will ask you this instead. Are you willing to cut all ties with the empire you currently serve? Are you willing to stand against the same nation who have wronged your people for so long? And finally, are you willing to pledge allegiance to the United Empire of Britannia?"
It might as well have been a rhetorical question but it didn't matter to the Lord of Ithalica at this point. After the Prince finished asking, only one thought came to Count Formal's mind. Revenge. This was perhaps the only chance that the Count and his people would ever have for retribution against the Empire. His mind was so clouded with that thought that he didn't think about what would happen to his people once he pledged his allegiance to the Britannian Empire. What if they were worse than the Saderan Empire? What if they abused and imposed heavy tariffs on his people? These questions were too far out of mind of Count Formal at the moment.
After letting out of breath to calm himself, he said. "Yes, I will do it. As long as we can make up for all the lives my men have taken in your city, I, no, we, the people of Ithalica and House Formal will pledge our allegiance to the Britannian Empire."
The Second Prince of Britannia was genuinely surprised. He didn't expect that Count Formal would accept their offer so easily. "That was fast! You didn't even ask what would happen to your people after pledging allegiance to us."
"I know, but it doesn't really matter at this point," Karvett said. "We have been under the Empire's rule for too long. If there is a chance that our lives would become better under your rule, I will not, no, cannot hesitate to take it."
Hearing this, Schneizel grinned in satisfaction and said. "Very well! We accept your pledge of allegiance. However, there is something we must tell you first." At this, Karvett listened more intently as he prepared to hear the Britannians' terms. "The men who took part in the murder of our citizens will be punished accordingly. Since you have sworn to serve our Empire, we can try to reduce their sentences but that is only applicable to special circumstances. Depending on your involvement, you may also be punished but the method is decided by our government. It is possible that your sentence will be drastically reduced and you won't have to live inside a prison cell for the rest of your life. However, such details should be left for later discussions. That is what you must understand first. Finally, I believe I don't need to tell you that betrayal is unforgivable to us. If you or some of your people betray the Britannian Empire in any way, there will be consequences. Do you understand?"
The Count almost shuddered at the Britannian Prince's last words. The idea of betraying such a powerful empire was too absurd for him, especially after everything he had seen about these people. "Of course, Your Highness! We, the people of Ithalica will never dare betray the Britannian Empire."
"Let's not be too hasty here!" Schneizel said. "Back to the main purpose of you being here. You are going to tell us everything you know about the Saderan Empire, your city state, any enemies that the Saderan Empire might have, anything that we find useful. Now, let us begin!"
Secret BSIA Facility – Part 2
Inside his temporary office at the BSIA facility located in the middle of nowhere, Schneizel was browsing through the treasure trove of intelligence on his datapad while sipping his favorite sweet tea.
At the moment, this secret facility was housing a few hundred prisoners, now known as the Saderans. Due to the sheer amount of enemies captured, the Britannians had to transfer them to various prisons across the West Coast. Low crime rates within the region has caused some prisons to be closed off due to the lack of funds and prisoners. Now, over a dozen of these prisons were reopened within record time for the sole purpose of housing the Saderans and their auxiliaries.
One of the most interesting discoveries they have made regarding Planet Falmarius on the other side of "The Gate" was the fact that it had many different intelligent species, with humans as the most dominant one. So far, the Britannians have captured quite a number of these races amongst the Saderan ranks during the Battle of Los Angeles. According to their testimonies, the Saderan Empire often employed multiracial mercenaries for their campaigns. The species that they have captured and cataloged so far were the Orcs, Voraldens, Leonids, Wolf-people, Tiger-people, Rabbit-people, Cat-people, Dark Elves, and Lizardmen.
Interestingly, Cat-people, Tiger-people, Wolf-people, and Rabbit-people who were generalized as "Beast-people" were actually humans with biological features from the respective animal species like ears, claws, fangs, fur, and tails. Despite their similar appearance to humans, they possessed strength, durability, and agility that exceeded that of normal humans and helped them adapt to the harsh environments of their planet. During the Battle of Los Angeles, some Army Rangers and Royal Marines reported that individuals of these races could physically overpower them if they were caught off guard. Thanks to the Britannians' advanced combat exo-suits, they were able to counter such individuals and capture them without any casualty.
Next were the Voraldens which looked strangely similar to the Werewolves from Earth's old folklore and myths. The only difference was that the Voraldens had tails and various fur colors, as well as possessed intelligence and lacked the strength and ferocity of Earth's mythical werewolves. As for the Leonids, they were bipedal anthropomorphic Lion, Jaguar, Panther and Tiger-like beings. This race was essentially feline animals with an anthropomorphic structure rather than humans with animal characteristics. The names of other species like Dark Elves and Lizardmen were pretty much self-explanatory.
Last was the Orcs who had the highest number amongst the captured Falmarian mercenaries. They were a race of large and muscular humanoids who possessed immense physical strength and acute senses. Instead of having a pig-like face like the common depiction of Orcs in fantasy media, these Orcs had large heavy jaws from which protrude sharp, tusk-like teeth, heavy brows, a broad and flat snout-like nose, and pointed ears. They also suffered the highest number of casualties since most of them were simply too dangerous and aggressive to be kept alive.
Judging from what they have observed so far, the Saderans often treated these humanoid species very poorly and heavily discriminated against them. Aside from the intelligent species, they have also captured a few dozen of the large abnormal animals released by the Saderans to rampage across Los Angeles. The scientists could use these creatures to experiment on and see what kind of effects modern medicines and chemicals would have on the sentient species of the alien planet.
Using the samples extracted from these creatures, Britannian doctors and experts could synthesize proper medicines and provide medical treatments to the less-fortunate individuals amongst the Saderan Expeditionary Army, namely, the females and children. Fortunately, their physiology and biological makeups weren't too different from humans and certain animals on Earth so they were able to provide proper treatments. As for those who were too aggressive toward the Britannian medical workers, they simply left those individuals to their fates.
At first, there was some trouble as the Saderan humans kept stirring up trouble whenever they were put inside the prison transports along with the other races. Fights also broke out between the Saderan humans and mercenaries after arguing about trivial matters. When the Britannian guards finally had enough of their crap, they simply immobilized the ones who caused nothing but trouble for them with shock batons.
Seeing the inherent race discrimination between the prisoners, the wardens decided to put them in separate areas to prevent further incidents. They have also requested more manpower and equipment from the military to control the prisoners since the prison guards were obviously outnumbered. High Command quickly accepted their requests and sent as much resources as they could spare to control the situation. They have also given strict orders to prevent the prisoners from acquiring any advanced technology related to the military to maintain technological superiority over the enemies. Any prisoner seen in possession of such technologies was to be executed on sight. Since these entities were essentially aliens from another planet, they believed that no Britannians would hesitate to do so.
However, many problems arose when they found out that many individuals of these races were forced to fight for the Saderans as their slaves. The races with the highest number of slaves was the Dark Elves and Beast-people thanks to their physical strength and adaptability. Britannian forces have also taken into custody many young entities of these particular races and identified them as "child soldiers". Medical examinations have proven that these individuals were no more than eighteen human years old. The Imperial Ministry of Justice was working on how to deal with them and handle their treatment going forward.
More problems arose when the Saderans tried to assault female individuals of these races during their first day inside the prisons. Fortunately, the prison guards and security detail on site intervened and promptly executed the savage Saderans. After a hundred of them were executed, no more incident was recorded. For now, the races were given their own segregated areas to prevent further incidents. Those who were identified as young women and children of these species were placed together and given medical treatment to monitor their conditions. Schneizel wondered if he could use this racial discrimination to their advantage in the war against the Saderan Empire.
As he continued to read the reports, he couldn't help but smile in satisfaction. They have really struck gold with the man named "Karvett Formal", the Count from a city state called Ithalica. When BSIA agents accompanying Cornelia were monitoring the Battle of Los Angeles with their stealth drones, they noticed the man in question was arguing with the Saderan Field Marshal and his cohorts.
Additionally, they also retrieved visual recordings of instances in which Saderan commanders bickered with the Ithalican men in the heat of battle whenever the Britannian forces pushed back the invaders with a firestorm of bullets and missiles. Being the cold-blooded strategist that he was, Schneizel couldn't wait to use this dissension their advantage once the Britannians and their allies crossed over to the other side.
He also received a report stating that his brother Lelouch and his aunt, Duchess Theresa Henriksen, had accidentally encountered a special individual belonging to the Beast-people. The Royal Guards who were with them reported that the young Prince decided to save the individual's life and took her in for certain reasons. Apparently, he believed that this Beast-woman would be of use to their long-term operations in Falmarius. Given Lelouch's strategic mind, he could already guess what his brother meant by that. However, that wasn't important at the moment.
After almost three hours of questioning, Count Formal has given them almost everything they needed to gain a foothold on the other side of Gate and start the subsequent invasion of the Saderan Empire. At first, some officials within the Agency feared that the Count was giving them false information to lure the Britannians into a trap. As the agents questioned and interrogated more and more prisoners, they were able to compare the testimonies and determine the validity of the Count's information.
The most interesting discovery they have made so far was Magic. Something that could only exist in fantasy media was a real thing in the world beyond the Gate. As much as Schneizel wanted to deny its absurdity, he couldn't deny the evidence when it was staring right back at him. Inside the visual recordings they have gathered, he was looking at special individuals who were identified as "Mages". They were the ones who could summon invisible walls to protect themselves against the Britannians' firepower, attacked Britannian soldiers and police officers with fire and lighting spells. Scientists from across the country and BSIA Agents were having a field day with these so-called 'Mages' as they continued to question and study them, both alive and dead.
However, they encountered major setbacks regarding the mages. During transit, some of the mages tried to escape using some kind of spell to make the guards fall asleep despite their hands having been tied. Fortunately, their spells were very limited in range so the Britannian guards and soldiers who saw this immediately responded by knocking them out. The Britannian commanders on site also ordered their men to gag their mouths, tie up all of their limbs and put them inside reinforced prison trucks. For now, they had to make do with the several dozen mages already in BSIA's custody.
Last but not least, there was the giant elephant in the room: That massive ancient-looking structure that appeared out of nowhere on Mount Lee, the structure that was origin for all of this.
According to the scientists on site, they believed that the Gate was a passageway that connected between Earth and the world of Falmarius. It was essentially an Einstein Rosen Bridge or a wormhole that was being sustained by some unknown energy. Since they couldn't explain how it worked, they couldn't tell whether or not this wormhole would collapse suddenly and trap the Britannian forces on the other side of the Gate either. It was a legitimate fear that everyone had at the moment.
However, the thirst for vengeance and the resolve to rescue the captured citizens triumphed that fear and pushed the Britannian Empire to declare war on the Saderan Empire. The only question was when. At the moment, five stealth AI-controlled Phantom drones have been dispatched to the other side to gather data on Planet Falmarius.
As Schneizel continued to read the reports, three agents entered his room. They saluted him and spoke. "Your Highness! We are here to deliver some reports regarding the prisoners and the enemy nation." Agent Smith said.
The Imperial Prime Minister of Britannia nodded and gestured for them to seat on the couch in front of him. He finally looked up from his datapad and asked the agents. "Any luck with the other prisoners?"
"The Saderans are a tough nut to crack, Your Highness!" Agent James said as he took his datapad from his suit. "We have tried the conventional 'tea time' (Code name for enhanced interrogation techniques) with them but it yields little to no results. We might have to switch up a notch with these guys. For the mages, we had to be extra careful around them since we don't know how many more tricks they might have up their sleeves. It is going to take us some time to extract anything useful from them."
"As for the Ithalicans, however," Agent Smith said. "They were reluctant at first but they did answer our questions truthfully. When we showed them the footage of their Lord pledging his allegiance to our Empire, they became more willing to cooperate with us. Even though we made it clear that some of them would be punished in regards to their involvement during the Battle of Los Angeles, they accepted our offers very quickly. They must really hate the Saderan Empire to agree to an alliance with us that easily."
Schneizel nodded in appreciation of the Agents' work. "What about the multiracial mercenaries?"
"Almost all of them were the same," Agent Smith said. "They were either in this for the money or forced to fight as slaves. Many of them even begged us not to harm their children and siblings."
"What do you mean 'their children and siblings'?" Schneizel asked. He had a feeling that the answer would be too unsettling for his taste.
"As mercenaries and slaves to the Saderans, many of the Beast-people and are dependent on the Saderans in many aspects, especially making a living." Agent Smith explaind. "They have no home and have to bring their families along wherever they go. When the Saderans were driven back by our forces, they were abandoned by their masters and employers. Now, they have nowhere else to go and are completely dependent on us, their captors. Many of them are in poor physical and mental conditions so our doctors are doing everything they can to help them."
As expected, this topic cast a heavy air in the room since the idea of slavery disgusted everyone on Earth. It was also the reason why the Britannians were having trouble dealing with them. At the moment, the only thing they could do was to provide the unfortunate Falmarians with basic necessities and keep a close eye on them. Whether they would be punished or not had to left for the Emperor and the Imperial Ministry of Justice to decide. Given the circumstances, Schneizel had a feeling that it was unlikely.
"When we asked them about working for us, they didn't even hesitate," Agent James said. "If anything, they were even more eager than the Ithalicans. For now, we have placed those who were identified as slaves in more comfortable facilities and continued to monitor them. It seems that they were happy with what they were given. Can't really blame them though, given their unfortunate circumstances."
"What about the Imperial Field Marshal? Tiberias was it?" Schneizel asked Agent Blake who oversaw the interrogation of the more stubborn and savage Saderans.
"Tiberiaz Korbenick, Your Highness!" Agent Blake said. "He is as stubborn as a mule. He keeps blabbering on and on about how great his empire is and how they are going to crush us. But he will break soon enough. With the Emperor's permission, we are planning to use the 'Sleepless Night' on him. Our doctors have examined them and concluded that the compound works on them just as it does on us."
With that statement, Schneizel had an almost wicked grin on his face. The "Sleepless Night" was an extremely potent chemical compound that was used extensively during the Koslovia War. It was an effective tool of torture created by the Britannian Secret Intelligence Agency. Unlike older conventional drugs which gave the victims constant hallucinations to torture their mind while awake, the "Sleepless Night" compound put the victims into deep sleep and gave them endless nightmares. It caused the victims' brains to create the most realistic nightmares based on their worst fears. What made it even worse was that the afflicted victims could not awaken from their sleep under the influence regardless of how hard they tried, essentially trapping them inside a hellish world made of their own nightmares. Depending on the victims, the effects could last around six to eight hours. The drug has been proven to be over 90% effective in breaking its victims. The only downside was that it needed to be administered every day until the victims cracked and spilled every secret the Britannians wanted to know. For Schneizel and the agents, this was simply another means to an end.
"There are some commanders whom they refer to as 'Centurions', 'Praefectors', 'Tribunars', and 'Field Generals', right?" Schneizel asked.
"Yes, Your Highness!" Agent Blake said. "When we asked about their military structure, they were so arrogant that they didn't bother hiding it from us, thinking that they would one day defeat and subjugate us. I have included the details inside the reports and sent it to your datapad. There are also some Field Generals who lead separate Legions, all loyal to Tiberiaz. These men are the hardest to crack at the moment."
"Give the drugs to them as well," Schneizel said. "I don't care if you give them a daily dose. We need as much information as possible to make sure they aren't lying to us. Let's see how tough these bastards are after having a taste of our 'Special Recipe'!"
"It will be done, Your Highness!" Agent Blake said.
"What about the Ithalicans and Beast-people, Your Highness?" Agent Smith asked.
"Since the Ithalicans are our allies now, we must give them proper treatment until we can decide proper punishment for the offenders amongst them. Transfer them to separate facility, build a sizable camp, and provide basic necessities for them. After the transfer is complete, we will let them collect their fallen. Make sure to monitor them closely! As for the Beast-people," Schneizel paused to think about it for a second. "Continue to keep them in their designated areas and monitor them! Tell our personnel not to let their guard down around them! We don't know if there are any Saderan spies among them."
"Yes, Your Highness?" Agent Smith said. After half an hour of reporting, the agents went to perform their duties and execute the Prince's orders, leaving Schneizel to read his reports. He was particularly interested when he reached the preliminary reports about mages and their capabilities.
White Palace, Pendragon
Terran Calendar: September 3, 2135 – 9:00 AM
Emperor Charles zi Britannia had thought that such level of anger was impossible for him ever since the death of his beloved queen/wife – Marianne vi Britannia. Apparently, he was wrong after reading the information they have gathered about the Saderan Empire, the alien nation who has declared war on his nation.
According to what they have learned so far, the Saderan Empire received an Oracle from the Gods that a Gate leading to another world would open and help them expand their territories. Given their expansionist nature, the empire quickly mobilized one of their field armies to invade the world beyond 'The Gate' and subjugate all those they came across. To put it simply, the empire's reason for attacking Los Angeles in such savage manners was because they thirsted for conquest, the glory in subjugating everyone different from them, and obtaining as many slaves for their savage empire as possible. The Britannians' fury and disgust toward the alien empire increased ten-fold when they learned that these Saderans have already done this many times throughout the one-thousand-year history of their existence. Assuming that the information the captured Saderans gave was true, the Saderan Empire has subjugated dozens of smaller nations and committed genocide to various races and ethnic groups in their world.
Needless to say, everyone who read this report felt an immeasurable amount of anger, hatred, and disgust toward such a barbaric empire. Saying that it was they were furious was the understatement of the century. After reading the documents, Charles couldn't help but agree with his wives and children on the idea of burning this entire twisted, primitive and barbarian empire to the ground. Some even believed that the planet on the other side of the Gate would be far better without it.
"Your Majesty, they are ready for you!" Charles's personal secretary – Morgan Lockhart, informed him. At the moment, the Britannian Emperor was preparing to make an official announcement regarding everything they have gathered about the enemy nation.
His cabinet was already working with the other international governments concerning their proposal. The majority of the Britannian Government have agreed to lead the UEDF for the invasion of Falmarius. Since other nations had lost thousands of their own citizens in Los Angeles, the Britannian Empire couldn't prevent them from sending their armies to avenge the dead and rescue the people captured by the Saderans. However, it has been agreed that the Britannians would lead the invasion and ensure that all militaries worked well with each other throughout the conflict between the two empires. It was for this exact reason why his administration has been working tirelessly with other world governments for the past week.
Charles nodded at his secretary and straightened himself as his maids prepared him for the national address. After everything was done, he followed his secretary toward the Throne Room where the Imperial Senate and a large crowd of journalists have gathered. Journalists from nations around the world have also gathered to record and broadcast the events back to their home countries. They also broadcasted the events to various colonies across Sol through SolNet. A few dozens of the victims' family members were also invited to attend this national address.
The closer the Emperor and his secretary got, the louder the sound of the Empire's national anthem became. It has been agreed that the national anthem "All Hail Britannia" was to be played during times of war whereas the "Rule Britannia" was to be played during times of peace.
The Royal Guards saluted Charles and opened the doors to the massive chamber. "Presenting his Imperial Majesty! The 99th Emperor of the United Empire of Britannia." Bertram Norgaard, Captain of Royal Guards announced.
As he approached the podium with power and grace, all eyes within the room were on him. Camera drones began recording and broadcasting the event for tens of billions of people on Earth and most human colonies in Sol. He looked around the chamber and the cameras whose attention was all focused on him.
He then took a deep breath and began his speech. "Good people of Britannia," Charles spoke into his microphone. "Ever since we first landed on the Moon in 1968, Humanity have always asked ourselves the question: Are we alone in this universe? Not once have we ever thought that question would be answered in such manners though."
He paused for a moment before continuing. "Last week, on August 25th, 2135; a great tragedy has struck our Empire. The city of Los Angeles was viciously attacked by an unknown army. This army didn't come from our world or anywhere within the Sol system for that matter. Instead, they came from this structure." Charles then signaled for Morgan to show the images on the screen behind him. The massive screen behind Charles changed from the Britannian Empire's flag to the images of the mysterious Gate structure on Mount Lee.
"This structure is simply known as 'The Gate' by the enemy," Charles said as he directed everyone's attention toward the screen. "This 'Gate' is an inter-dimensional passageway that connects our world with another. This world is called 'Falmarius' and inhabited by multiple intelligent species. By now, I am sure that most of you have seen the videos and photos of the attack on SolNet. It saddens me to inform you that all of them are real. The attack resulted in the loss of over 30,000 innocent lives of different nationalities. Worse yet, the enemy has captured over 9,000 of our people and citizens of other nations and brought them to the other side of the Gate."
As shocked murmurs spread throughout the massive chamber and the world at large, Charles turned his head to the group of family members who lost their loved ones in the attack. Some of them included the students from Ashford Academy and foreigners currently living in Los Angeles. "We, the Empire of Britannia, promise to those who have suffered immense losses in this attack that we will do everything we can to assist you and bring justice to your losses."
With that claim, many of the group broke down in tears as they profusely thanked the Emperor. Some simply remained silent as they tried to control themselves. He then turned back to the masses within the room. "I understand what you are thinking right now. And believe me, even I was having a hard time believing all of this when I first heard of it. However, we have confirmed that there exists an entirely different planet inhabited by multiple nations and fantastical creatures. Even more surprisingly, these nations were mostly inhabited by humans or rather, an alien humanoid species with extreme resemblance to us humans. Our scientists have confirmed that these alien humans are both similar and different to us on a genetic level. As you can see from these images, their civilization is very primitive compared to us since they haven't even reached the industrial revolution. There are also other species like dragons, wyverns, trolls, ogres, beast-people, elves, dwarves, and many more actually exist alongside them. I wouldn't have made this announcement if we hadn't gathered sufficient information about them. And now, thanks to the brave citizens of our Empire, I am going to give you the answers you all deserve."
Charles could feel his anger and disgust slowly rising within him as he prepared to announce their discoveries. He let out a sigh before continuing. "One of the most powerful nations among them is the Divine Empire of Sadera, the same nation that was behind the savage attack on Los Angeles. And the reason for their attack disgusts me and my administration greatly. It is simply because THAT is their way. These Saderans conquer, murder, plunder, and subjugate everyone who is different from them wherever they go. And they said that they do all of THAT for glory."
At this point, some people have begun to feel anger swelling up within them. Even the reporters and journalists from other countries felt the same way. Charles continued. "And to add insult to injury, these Saderans have the audacity to call us savages and barbarians. Savages and barbarians, they said! They murdered tens of thousands of innocent lives, looted and plundered the beautiful city of Los Angeles, sexually assaulted thousands of women and young girls, fed children to the monsters they had brought, tortured and murdered helpless people in the most painful ways for their amusement. They did ALL THAT and they dare call us 'savages' and 'barbarians'. If they want to see savages and barbarians, then all they have to do is to look in the mirrors." Charles's voice increased in tone as he became angrier with each revelation.
After he finished that last sentence, one of the men in the Los Angeles Victims' section stood up and shouted. "With all due respect, Your Majesty, but FUCK' EM!"
He was followed by two other men. "Kill them all!"
When more and more people joined in, half of Throne Room was filled with shouts of anger and disgust toward the Saderan Empire. Even some members of the Imperial Senate joined in but they didn't shout. They were all demanding retribution against the enemy empire and the execution of the captured Saderans. At the same time, they also demanded justice for those who lost their lives or suffered immensely in the attack.
After a minute of angry shouting, Charles raised his hand to silence the crowd. "This senseless and unprovoked attack is a clear declaration of war. Those who were responsible for it shall not go unpunished. Make no mistake, my fellow Britannians! This attack is not only an insult to our nation, but an insult to the human dignity of our world. The Senate has already made preparations to declare an official statement regarding what to do with this wretched empire from another world. However, even as the Emperor, it is my duty to respect your voices, the people's voices. Therefore, what says you, the people of Britannia?"
"Death to the Saderans! Justice for the fallen!" The crowd shouted in almost unison. Some of the Royal Guards readied themselves to intervene should the situation go out of control.
"We will make these animals pay for their savage and dishonorable ways," the Emperor continued. "We will march together with our allies who have also suffered great losses in this savage attack. Our armies will march through the Gate which they used to invade us and fight them in their own lands. We will destroy all those who stand in the way of our vengeance. If they refuse to surrender and answer for their crimes against humanity, we will march to their capital and burn it to the ground. We will not waver; we will not rest until all of our captured citizens are rescued; we will not stop until we bring justice to the fallen and revenge against the Saderan empire. FOR BRITANNIA! AND FOR ALL MAKIND OF EARTH!"
After Charles finished his speech, almost everyone in the room rose and started chanting. "ALL HAIL BRITANNIA! ALL HAIL BRITANNIA! ALL HAIL BRITANNIA!"
From Earth to Luna, Mars, Titan, Europa, Io, and Ganymede, over three billion citizens of the Britannian Empire felt the fire of vengeance burning within them. Even in remote colonies within the Asteroid Belt, every Britannian citizen could feel the flames of righteous indignation like never before.
Soon enough, automatic factories across Sol began running and producing the mighty weapons of war for the upcoming invasion of the alien empire. Britannian Army Recruitment centers on Earth and other celestial bodies were flooded with enlistment requests from those who wished to join the invasion. The entirety of the Britannian Empire was preparing for war. Meanwhile, other nations watched on with great interest and prepared themselves. The Empire's closest allies also prepared themselves for war as they too sought justice for the loss of many of their citizens in Los Angeles.
UAT Headquarters in Melbourne, Australia
Terran Calendar: September 4, 2135
On the outskirts of the bustling metropolis of Melbourne lies a massive structure that served as the headquarters for the United Assembly of Terra. The Assembly was established in January 2038 after major human colonies were completed on Mars. Although off-world colonies were built by individual nations on Earth, their overall administration lies with the Assembly given the vast distances between planets and the resources needed to keep these colonies up and running.
The Assembly Headquarters, nicknamed "The Pyramid", was a massive structure reinforced with several layers of blast plating, anti-EMP armor, and hundreds of meters of solid rock. The structure rose over 1.8 kilometers into the sky and stretched two kilometers deep into the earth. Following the Interplanetary War, the Pyramid was completely rebuilt and redesigned as the last bastion of Humanity. It was capable of withstanding prolonged orbital bombardment and even nuclear explosions to some extent. It was the place where the administration of all nations on Earth and human colonies in Sol took place. It also served as one of the primary command centers for the United Earth Defense Force across the Sol system aside from other command centers on other celestial bodies in Sol.
The Assembly was overseen by the Terra Security Council whose members were the individual heads of state on Earth. It is essentially the central government that administrates over Earth and all of her colonies within the solar system. Although the true reason behind the Assembly's creation remained a secret to the highest authority within world governments, most of the world population were satisfied with its creation thanks to how well it has performed despite its flaws.
The most influential member nations within the Terra Security Council were Britannia, Russia, United Europe, India, and China. These most powerful nations made up the Council of Five, the upper echelon of the Terra Security Council. However, other developed nations such as Japan and Australia did have some influence over the Council of Five.
Since the Assembly also managed military affairs on celestial bodies outside of Earth, Emperor Charles and his Imperial Prime Minister were having a meeting with the rest of the Council in the Assembly Headquarters to discuss various matters regarding the Saderans' invasion of Los Angeles. Ever since the Battle of Los Angeles, member nations of the Assembly have been having one meeting after another to decide what they should do regarding the incident and the Britannians' proposal. After the Emperor's declaration of war on the Saderan Empire, the Assembly has finally made their decisions so Charles and Schneizel were here to listen to them.
"Emperor Charles zi Britannia," Matthew Phuong – the current General Secretary Council of the Council spoke from his podium. His voice reverberated throughout the massive council chamber. "We have requested your attendance here to give you answers concerning your proposal, the first contact with an alien nation from another planet, and other relevant matters. Once again, I, and the rest of the Terra Security Council, offer our condolences regarding the savage attack on your city." The Chinese descent General Secretary bowed his head slightly toward the Britannian Emperor.
"Thank you, Mr. General Secretary!" Charles said respectfully. "We take it that members of the Council have made their decisions."
"Indeed we have, Your Majesty!" General Secretary Phuong said. "The Council's majority have unanimously voted to agree with your proposal to deploy the UEDF against the Saderan Empire and its allies. We will provide your nation with assistance and support in your invasion of Falmarius but only at your request and permission. As per agreement, the resources mined on the alien planet will be done and shared by participating nations. For that matter, I will let the individual state representatives have the floor. First is the Unified Federation of Russia." He looked over to the Russian President and said. "President Alexander Vasiliev! Please take the floor!"
The Russian President nodded and rose from his seat. "In support of the Britannian Empire's invasion of Planet Falmarius, the Unified Federation of Russia pledges 100,000 combat personnel from all branches in the first wave of invasion," He said in somewhat fluent English. "An additional force of 50,000 will likely be deployed depending on the war's progress. The Eleventh and Twelfth Fleets of the Russian Space Navy will be deployed to assist the Britannian forces in the rescue operations of the captured Russian citizens as well as protect the Russian people's safety and interests on Planet Falmarius. With the Britannian Empire's permission, we would like to assist them in the military operations against the Saderan Empire and its allies. Because the UEDF is established with the Britannian Military at the center this time, the command of the Russian ground forces will be transferred to the Britannian commanders on the field. However, should the orders go against the benefits and interests of the Russian people, those orders will be ignored and such instances will be reported and examined immediately. Is that acceptable, Your Majesty?"
"Of course, Mister President!" Charles said. "And we thank you for your generous support. As for your request in joint operations against the Saderan Empire, we cannot answer right away so we will leave such issues for future discussions. Nevertheless, we hope that our militaries will work well together just like we did during the Koslovia War."
"Likewise, Your Majesty!" President Vasiliev said. "We will discuss such details later. That is all, Mr. General Secretary!"
"Thank you, Mr. President!" General Secretary Phuong said and turned to the leader of the United Europe. "The next state representative is Chancellor Sebastian Friedrich of the United Republic of Europe."
The Chancellor of United Europe nodded and rose from his seat. Around him, his aides recorded and broadcasted the event live for every member state of the United European Council (UEC) back home.
As the Chancellor spoke in English, his voice showed clear accent of his mixed heritage. "The UEC has reached a consensus after reviewing extensive documents from the Britannian Empire. The United Republic of Europe pledges 100,000 combat personnel from all branches in the first wave of invasion. An additional force of 60,000 will likely be deployed depending on the war's progress. The Fifteenth and Sixteenth Fleets of the European Space Navy will be diverted to assist the Britannian Armed Forces in the war against the Saderan Empire and its allies on Planet Falmarius. For the duration of the war, our forces will be put under the command of the Britannian commanders to rescue our captured citizens and protect our interest on the alien planet. However, if the orders given to our forces go against the interest and benefits of the European people, they will be ignored and reported immediately. Further details will be discussed later depending on the situation. That is all, Mr. General Secretary!"
The Emperor nodded and thanked the Chancellor for his nation's generous support.
"Thank you, Chancellor Friedrich!" General Secretary Phuong said and turned to the Indian President. "Next up, President Devansh Narendra of the Republic of India."
President Narendra stood up and said. Although his English wasn't as fluent as that of the Russian President and European Chancellor, it was still understandable. "The Republic of India pledges 60,000 combat personnel from all branches for the first wave of the invasion of the Saderan Empire. The Indian Army will conduct operations along with the militaries of other nations to rescue all Indian people taken to the other side of 'The Gate'. Our Space Navy will provide extensive logistical support to the participating nations of the UEDF. After all of our people are rescued and repatriated, half of the combat personnel will remain to protect the safety and interests of the Indian people on Planet Falmarius. Further details will be discussed later depending on the progress of the war between the Britannian Empire and Saderan Empire. That is all, Mr. General Secretary!"
"Thank you, Mr. President!" General Secretary Phuong said and turned to the Japanese Prime Minister. "Next up is the Republic of Japan, Prime Minister Genbu Kusanagi."
The Japanese Prime Minister stood up and spoke in English. "The Nation of Japan pledges 40,000 combat personnel for the first wave of invasion of Saderan Empire. An additional force of 20,000 may be deployed for the second wave should the Britannian Empire requests. Our military will conduct operations alongside the Britannian Armed Forces to rescue our abducted citizens as well as protect the safety and interests of Japanese people on Planet Falmarius. With the Emperor's permission, we would like to assist Britannia in military operations against the Saderan Empire."
The conference went on as one nation after another pledged their support to the Britannian Empire in the invasion of Falmarius. The Commonwealth of Australia pledged 40,000 combat personnel and logistical support to the UEDF's war efforts against the Saderan Empire, with an undisclosed amount of troops for a potential second wave. The People's Republic of China pledged over 60,000 combat personnel in total whereas the Republic of Korea pledged 46,000 in total.
The remaining nations like the Southeast Asian Union, Middle East Federation, United States of North Africa, United Republics of Central Africa, and the Republic of South Africa couldn't provide military support since they were still recovering from the Koslovia War. Instead, they pledged to provide the Britannian Empire with humanitarian aid and logistical support. Although the Empire didn't really need it given its vast power and influence, they appreciated the nations' goodwill nonetheless.
Like many Britannians, Schneizel didn't enjoy the idea of having this many foreign militaries marching on Britannian soil. However, he understood that pride must be put aside to achieve greater goals in the long run, especially when it comes to military operations on an entirely different planet. Based on the intelligence they have gathered, the Saderan Empire had complete control over their home continent and a massive army despite being such a primitive nation. If what the Ithalicans and captured Saderans said was true, the Saderan Imperial Army would reach over two million strong. Not to mention, they also employed a large number of auxiliary forces.
In addition, the Saderan Empire also had over two dozen vassal states which they could call upon in times of war. Assuming that they could summon all of their forces across the continent, the Saderan Imperial Army could easily reach well over three million men. And that was not counting the sheer number of war beasts they employed in conflicts. He didn't care about those numbers since the UEDF always had their nuclear arsenal to solve these problems.
According to Count Formal, some of the vassal states held an immense hatred toward the Saderans because of how they were treated throughout history. The fact that the Saderans often committed genocide against ethnic groups only served to make more enemies of themselves. He made a mental note to make good use of this advantage for their war efforts. The most concerning factor was Magic and its involvement given its unpredictability. He had to urge the BSIA to speed up the research on this subject further to produce positive results.
"We have concluded the discussion about military affairs of the war between the Britannian Empire and the Saderan Empire," General Secretary Phuong announced. "There is another important issue that we must discuss: the treatment of the Falmarian entities captured by our militaries in this conflict. The Council has reviewed the information provided by the Britannian Empire but we haven't reached a consensus regarding this issue yet. Therefore, I would like to ask the party who is currently most affected by this incident. Your Majesty, Mr. Prime Minister! What are the Empire's actions concerning the captured Falmarian entities as of now?"
This time, Schneizel stepped forward to answer the General Secretary's question. "As the Council has already known, we have identified and cataloged five intelligent races aside from the humans hailing from Planet Falmarius. The details have been included in our reports so you can review them for more details later. We will briefly go over each different species to help you better understand them."
He then signaled for his secretary to control the holo-projector on their table. She typed some commands into her datapad. After a few seconds, the projector rose up from the ground and started displaying images and files for other members of Terra Security Council to see.
The holograms displayed images of some Dark Elves captured by the Britannians. Although the council members had read the reports and seen some of the images beforehand, they were somewhat astonished by how similar to humans the individuals of this species were. The differences were their dark complexion, unnatural hair and eye colors, and most notably, their long pointy ears.
Schneizel began his explanation. "The first species we will discuss is the Dark Elves. According to what our agents have gathered, they are a sub-species of the Elves, another intelligent species of Falmarius. Similar to the Elves, they age much slower and can live much longer than other species on that planet. The oldest Dark Elf in our custody is over 500 years old. They are a tribal species that dwell in forests, mountains, and valleys, similar to their two cousin species – the Fairy Elves and Wood Elves. Since the Saderan Empire is a human supremacist country, most of them treat the other races, including the Elves and Dark Elves, very harshly and heavily oppress them. According to their testimonies, they treat the other Elven races much better than how they treat the Dark Elves because of how much trading those two Elven races conduct with the Saderans. When the Saderans were preparing for the invasion of our world, they have captured a large number of Dark Elves and other races to turn them into cannon fodders for the Saderans. During the Battle of Los Angeles, the Dark Elves mainly served as scouts and didn't partake in the heinous acts against our countrymen like the Saderans and their mercenaries. When our forces slaughtered tens of thousands of Saderans and cornered them, they immediately surrendered without putting up any resistance. They are also the most willing to cooperate with us in the war against the Saderan Empire. Since we have confirmed that most of them didn't commit any crimes against our people, we have placed all of the surviving Dark Elves inside a secret camp in the West Coast. There, we treat their wounded, provide them with basic necessities and keep a close eye on them."
The council members watched the images and footage provided by the Britannians. They could see that the Dark Elves were indeed living a healthy life inside a recently opened prison. Along with them, there were also individuals from other races like the Beast-people.
"Why are you putting individuals from other races with them?" European Chancellor Sebastian Friedrich asked. "I thought you said putting different races in one place risked causing security issues and tension between them."
"Well, about that… amongst the captured entities from Falmarius, there are many whom our scientists have confirmed to be females and children of those species. When they were brought into our custody, many of them were severely injured, malnourished, or in very poor conditions. Not only that, we also lacked the manpower and proper resources to help them all in time. Fortunately, the Dark Elves are well-versed with other races' physiology so we asked for their assistance in helping those individuals. Of course, we are keeping a close eye on them so there has been no incident so far. Thanks to their help, the females and children of those races were placated and have agreed to live with them. After all, we can't exactly put them in the same facility with violent individuals of other races, especially with the Saderans."
Everyone nodded in agreement with the Britannian Prime Minister's judgment. Even though these individuals weren't humans, they were still the weaker and more vulnerable entities of those races, deserving of proper healthcare and treatment. Moreover, these individuals never wanted to come here and commit horrific crimes against humanity like the Saderans and their auxiliaries. They were essentially forced or coerced to come here and fight against their will by the Saderans. Some of the council members could feel anger and disgust rising within them as they remembered what those barbarians were capable of, especially when many of the victims in Los Angeles were their citizens.
"Given their circumstances, the Dark Elves are the most cooperative individuals since they provided us with a lot of valuable information. Next is the Beast-people!" Schneizel continued. The images changed from the Dark Elves to the Beast-people. Again, the council members were unnerved at how similar to humans they were. If one took out animal features like ears, claws, sharp fangs, tails, and fur, they would be virtually indistinguishable from ordinary humans. Within the footage, they could see that the Beast-people were being treated and tended by hundreds of doctors, nurses, and paramedics. In the background, drones and aircraft of both the military and police were flying about to maintain security.
"As far as we know, this race has the highest number of slaves in our custody due to their high adaptability to different environments. Because of intense racial discrimination within the Saderan Empire, they receive even harsher treatment from the Saderans than the Elves and Dark Elves. When our forces slaughtered the Saderans in droves, the Beast-people didn't even resist capture. In some cases, they only acted in self-defense and accidentally injured some of our people. Because of how poor their physical conditions were, we had to move most of them to a camp with proper medical facilities. They are doing quite well under our care and haven't caused any incidents. However, the problem is what we are going to do with them once they fully recover."
Schneizel paused for a moment for the council members to process the information. "Next up is the Lizardmen!" His secretary pulled up images of the humanoid reptilian species of Falmarius. The individuals of this species were taller and bigger than other races because of their reptilian heritage. The council members were fascinated when they finally had an actual alien-looking species instead of humans with animal features. The entities of this species were also diverse in terms of physical appearance.
"They are also a tribal species and mainly serve as mercenaries and laborers for the Saderan Empire. There were also a few of them who were branded as slaves for various reasons. Because of their physical strength, they often serve as shock troops alongside the Orcs. They also had the lowest number of survivors since our forces killed most of them along with the Saderan imperials during the Battle of Los Angeles. Despite their intimidating appearance, they seem to respect the Dark Elves for some reason and don't cause as much trouble as Orcs, Voraldens, and Leonids. They are also quite benign and haven't committed any crimes against our people, as far as we know."
After a short pause, Schneizel continued. "The last three races – Orcs, Leonids, and Voraldens can be summed up with this: Extremely violent and xenophobic. Almost all of them are mercenaries willingly working for the Saderans. It has been confirmed that they had tortured and killed many of our countrymen alongside the sadistic Saderan Imperials. They are also the most difficult to handle since they often argue and brawl with both each other and other races over trivial matters. When their fights resulted in many of our people severely injured, we had to execute a large number of them and the Saderans who instigated them to get the situation under control. After several hundreds of them were killed, none of them dared start anything else. To be honest, we are having trouble in dealing with them going forward."
As the council members read the reports and watched the footage, they could see why the Britannians resorted to such drastic measures. When some of the Britannian doctors, nurses, and emergency workers tried to help them, individuals from these three races were very hostile and aggressive toward them. Many of them even injured many Britannians in the process. An Orc, Voralden, or Leonid individual was able to overpower three fully grown humans and worse yet, some of them even showed resistance to anesthetic drugs so the Britannian guards had no choice but to put them down, permanently.
After a few minutes of processing the information, one of the state representatives spoke up from her seat. It was Chae-Won Park – President of the Republic of Korea. "If I may, Prime Minister Schneizel! From what we have learned, the Dark Elves, Beast-people, and Lizardmen are the most oppressed and discriminated against whereas the Orcs, Voraldens, and Leonids are the most violent and difficult to coexist with other species. Is that correct?"
"An oversimplification, but that is correct, Madam President!" Schneizel agreed with the Korean President.
"Then, what is your government going to do with the races who can coexist peacefully with humans going forward?" She asked. "Sending them back to their home planet poses a serious risk to our planetary security and your war efforts so I can only assume that you are going to take some of them in. Obviously, I am not saying that we should go out of our way for these people's sake. I am only talking about the ones who are the most peaceful, vulnerable, and willing to cooperate with us in this conflict. Is my assumption correct, Mr. Prime Minister?"
Aside from Charles and Schneizel, everyone was surprised at the Korean President's question. The Britannians knew this issue had to be addressed at some point. They knew that once the armies of Earth nations crossed over to the other side and the conflict between the two empires officially began, more and more refugees would come rushing to their side, given how well the people of Earth treated them.
Schneizel simply smiled and said. "Our government is still taking that option into consideration. Of course, we still have our own citizens to worry about so we can't simply take all of the sick and wounded individuals of these benign species in. Since you have brought up this issue, I believe that we can discuss this in further detail between member nations of the Assembly. Taking care of the Falmarian refugees is a massive endeavor that requires international efforts. As powerful as we are, the Empire still has its limits."
When murmurs of discussion arose between state representatives, the Korean President took the initiative to speak once more. "In that case, I believe we should focus on discussing the rights of these Falmarians before we talk about how best to handle them. We should ask important questions like: Should we treat them the same way we treat our people? Do they deserve human rights given their unfortunate circumstances? Should we accept them in our shores as political refugees or future citizens? And something along those lines."
Members of the Terra Security Council began musing over the Korean President's words and opinions, then began discussing the subject matter extensively with each other. After almost ten minutes of discussion, the Indian President spoke up from his seat. "I suggest we establish special rules regarding the Falmarian inhabitants whether they are enemies or not. Similar to the Berlin Conventions but ones that strictly apply to the Falmarians. If all council members agree to this, we can have our Ministries of Justice work together to write up a draft first before announcing the conventions to the public. How does that sound, everyone?"
President Devansh Narendra's suggestion sparked interest within the council chamber as the other state representatives also thought it to be a very good idea. Drawing up a clear convention regarding human rights for the current and future Falmarian refugees would certainly make things easier for the UEDF going forward.
"I agree with President Narendra's suggestion. For now, we can call this the 'Los Angeles Conventions' to honor our fallen countrymen. Is there anyone who objects to this?" Charles finally said after discussing it with his son / Prime Minister. Pleased that there was no objection, Charles turned back to the General Secretary. "Mr. General Secretary, please make an announcement!"
General Secretary Phuong nodded and declared from his podium. "Then, it is decided that member nations of the Terra Security Council are going to work together to devise the Los Angeles Conventions which will apply to the Falmarian individuals, both combatants and non-combatants. We can draw parallels from the Berlin Conventions for better and more detailed reference. Once the conventions are finished, the Assembly will review them thoroughly before announcing them to the public."
The rest of the meeting went on as the state representatives discussed resource allocation, logistics, equipment, and manpower for the war between the two empires. Little by little, the nations of Earth began preparing themselves for the upcoming invasion of the Saderan Empire on Planet Falmarius. All the while, the Saderans could do little but wait and do everything they could to prepare for the unstoppable tide of Earth armies.
Worldbuilding Facts:
Republic of India: The Indian Republic is the united nation that consists of six countries from Earth's main timeline: Pakistan, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. Although it is not as powerful as the Britannian Empire, United Europe, and Russian Federation, India is still an economically developed nation with a massive standing army. Before the Second World War, India often clashed with the Chinese Empire in certain regions along the borders, often in the Himalayan Mountains. Currently, India has several colonies on Luna (Moon), Mars, Titan, and Europa.
Republic of Korea: The Republic of Korea is a developed nation of the Korean Peninsula. Before the Second World War, the entirety of the Peninsula was a colony of the Chinese Empire. After the War ended, the Republic of Korea gained independence alongside the USNA and URCA. In late 20th Century, the Korean Peninsula was a heavily disputed territory between the Russian Federation and Chinese Empire. The Britannian Emperor at the time also wanted to gain a foothold in this region but he was deterred by the two major powers and occasional rebellions within the Britannian colonies at the time. Currently, Korea has several colonies on Mars, Europa and Ganymede.
Berlin Conventions: In this universe, the Berlin Conventions are the equivalence of Geneva Conventions from Earth's main timeline. The Berlin Conventions were created at the end of the Second World War.
