Sound the alarms, NEW FIC COMING THROUGH! This is my input on how I was thinking the scorching went down. Now I know that it won't matter in the future, considering that it's been rumored that Tui was going to tell us how it went down. But this fic has more uses than just giving my input on how the scorching went down. It will eventually tie in with my other fic "Wings of Power".

"Stupid scientist, I just want to get some sleep and forget this crap all happened" muttering as I head down to the mess hall. It takes forever to get there from the officer hall. I smile a little bit thinking of my home, the USS Carl Vinson, newest and the biggest aircraft carrier in the whole United States Navy. Home to over six thousand men and woman. I am proud to call this carrier my home, and I would die protecting it if I had to.

I opened the door to the mess hall, and it didn't even take me a minute to spot the scientist. He stuck out like a sore thumb compared to everybody else, wearing what he was wearing. He was also looking every which way looking at all the sights that were new to him.

I exhale in frustration, "Dear lord, I hope he isn't as clueless as the information people."

I walked up beside the scientist and sat down next to him. I looked to the server at the bar and gave him a nod, he knew what I wanted. My usual beer. The server just nodded and started pouring me one.

"Allright, what do you want?" I sighed out looking at the person next to me. The scientist snapped out of his daydreaming, "Ohh my, sorry I was daydreaming." the scientist said fixing their glasses. "Hello, it's an honor to finally meat you, I am a HUGE fan of yours! You are actually my inspiration to become a military scientist!"

"Thanks" I muttered in shock. That... that actually meant a lot to me, all I usually get is hate from people with my aggressive approach, and from all the hippies back in the states.

The scientist offered his hand, I shook it, "My name is Dave, I am from the aerospace department of defense."

"Dan, Black leader" I answered back, introducing myself. The scientist gave me a slight smile, "Ohh trust me, I know all about you, you're a two-time ace, best Tomcat pilot out there, and the Russians have dubbed you as the black death."

"ohh wow! Somebody who knows who they are talking to too," I think to myself. I just give him a nod.

The scientist wipes the smile off of his face, "Anyway, I am here with an important matter."

"What are we talking about here?" I ask him right back, wondering what could be so important.

"More important than the blackbird." He answered right back...

Now that, that is important, I was one of the pilots that got to test the SR-71 blackbird, sadly going to have to say I'm more than likely never going to get to experience the thrills of Mach 3 again, they only let certain people that are specially trained to get to fly those.

"Why did you come to me then?" I ask him, wondering why he even would want to approach me with this, did they want me to test a new jet?

"You are the best pilot America has, and your loyalty and record is impeccable, everybody in the department chose you for this by popular vote." Dave answered simply. "So what do you say?"

Now I'm confused, "You haven't told me what it even is yet?"

"Sorry, can't tell you what it is until you accept, you know... security reasons and all that." Dave said smiling, "But do know, if you accept, you're going to have to leave for a while, but think of it as more of a... vacation"

I frowned at that. I didn't want to leave the ship... I did need a vacation, I haven't left the carrier in almost a year now, and if this was anything like the blackbird, I knew that it would be an absolute blast. "All right, I accept." I sighed out, regretting it already.

"Excellent, we will leave tomorrow!" the scientist said ecstatically.

The bartender finally got back to me with my beer, and he had another beer for the scientist. I immediately drained my beer and started to leave, heading for the door to the mess hall. My room was on the bottom deck.

I almost made it to my room and my vision started to get blurry... I blacked out, hitting the floor hard.

"Urrggg, what happened to me" I groaned waking up, my head throbbing. Opening my eyes, I was definitely not in my room, and I was not in the carrier.

I jump up and start pounding on the door, "Hey open up, where am I!"

Somebody in a military police uniform threw my door open, and they looked panicked, they sighed in relief when they saw me, "You do know... the door was unlocked right?"

Well... now I feel stupid, "Sorry," I said rubbing the back of my head in embarrassment.

The officer smiled at me, "don't worry man, happens to the best of us" he then started walking, "Follow me, they are waiting for you."

"Who is waiting for me?" I asked the guard, confused on who it could be.

"you're about to find out." The guard said opening the door Infront of him, "step on in"

I walked through the door, it was some type of meeting room, with a long table and chairs all along it. The scientist I meant yesterday was on the opposite side of it.

"Welcome, sorry about having to drug you, had to keep the location of this lab a secret." The scientist greeted me.

I sat down in the chair Infront of me, "Its fine, you could have told me you were going to drug me, would have saved me a bump in the head."

"Either way... onto business then, Dan... what I am about to ask of you, will be the most important decision in your life."

I smirked at that, "Make em every day in the air."

That got a chuckle out of Dave, "your right, but still... this will do allot more than just that, it will completely make you have a new outlook on life, it will change you physically, and mentally."

"Look, I have seen a lot in my time flying through the air, my first few times I flew, I almost had a hart attack with some close calls, I feel like I will be fine" I say surely.

Dave just nods, and pushes a button on his desk, "Very well, please follow me," he said heading for a stairway that the button revealed. I get up and follow him down. It goes deep, more than a hundred feet.

"So, Dan... tell me what do you think of dragons?" Dave asked me while we walked down.

My eyes grew in joy, "I would be lying to you if I said I didn't like dragons, actually, they are the reason I wanted to fly."

"Really now?" The scientist said, hoping to continue the conversation with a smile on his face.

"Yep, as a kid, I loved reading all the folklore I could about them, it just sounded so cool, being a giant fire breathing creature that could fly, and have possible magical powers." I continued, but then became confused, "What does that have to do with what we are doing?"

"Oh nothing, just trying to spark conversation," The scientist said simply, "Anyway, we are here, now as you know, if you speak a word about a word about what is down here, I am sure you know it is punishable by death and you will be branded a traitor."

I give him a nod and we continued. Everything just looks like a simple high-tech lab, the only unusual thing in here was a huge round tube that is covered up by a tarp.

Dave stood Infront of the tank covered by the tarp. He ripped the tarp off of the tank...

It was a large black scaled creature, with wings, horns, and a tail... it was a dragon.

I blacked out... again.

"Called it!" Dave said with a chuckle. He took some smelling salts off the table next to him and put it up to Dan's nose. Dan woke up with a jolt from the smelling salts.

"Thanks Dave..." Dan muttered standing up, "Its... it's a dragon!" I yelled out realizing what was Infront of me. I realized something, "What, what do... what do you need with me?"

"now that's just it, isn't it." the scientist said looking at me like he was thinking about something, "What do we need with the best pilot this world has saw since World War two, with somebody with both flying skills, survival skills, and also military training?"

"Yes, I have no idea what I am supposed to do with a DRAGON!" I then got even more concerned, "how did you even get a Dragon, a creature of mythical legend, something that is almost physically impossible to even exist?"

"Most of what you just asked is classified, but I can tell you it was with genetic engineering," the scientist fixed his glasses, "The government wanted a trump card in anyway they could so they wanted ideas from all fields, "So we came up with the ideas of dragons."

"You still haven't told me what all this has to do with me?" I said still concerned.

"You are going to be the dragons... Avatar." the scientist answered me.

"It's wat?" I asked confused, not even knowing what an Avatar is.

"You are going to get to control it, your mind and memories will be separated from your body and put into the dragon, in other word... you will become the dragon." the scientist said with a smile on his face.

"You're fucking with me, right?" I asked him, not knowing what to think.

"I ensure you, I am not." The scientist still having a smile on his face, "If you will become the dragon, you will be bullet proof up to a 20mm, be able to breath fire, have a lifespan up to almost a hundred and fifty years and we estimated that you will be able to fly up to two hundred miles per hour, we are currently working a way for the dragon to go more than Mach one, and trying to give him more weapons." The scientist explained.

"There has to be cons to this." I asked him.

"I hope you weren't going to ask that." Dave sighed, "With how secret this operation is, you are going to have to work alone, nobody to get you information, support of any kind, and you will have to make due with what you have on you... also... it's going to be permanent."

"PERMANENT!" I said in worry, I would be forever alone, have nobody to talk to, and nobody to turn to after the war was over.

"But, do not worry, you will not be alone, if this project works you will not be the only dragon, we are currently trying to make some more dragons, we made your dragon to be stealthy at night and blend in with the darkness, we are currently working on a dragon for the sea, jungle, desert, and swamps." Dave explained worried with the look on my face.

"Thats reassuring..." I muttered, but still... permanently... yes it was a dragon, a creature that I have loved since I was a child, I would have a body literally built for flying, be able to breath fire... it was indeed awesome, and I had nobody to miss, I didn't ever get a girlfriend after I joined the military, and my parents died years ago... Fuck it.

"Sure, let's go for it." I said, worried and hoping this would work out for me.

"Excellent, when do you want to start?" The scientist asked ecstatic that I accepted.

"Today if you could... I have nobody to say goodbye to." I said, trying to do it today, so I don't back out.

"Ok, since you accepted this, and you will be the leader of this group, we implanted your dragon with a way that it will be able to read other dragons minds so you can command them better, kind of like a walkie talky, but its built in." the scientist explained.

"Neat!" I said simply.

"I shall call the rest of this staff in, head over there to that bead" The scientist said pointing to the hospital bead over in a corner, surrounded by all kinds of strange machines.

I walked over and laid down in it, stress and worry building up in me, if this fails, I will never be able to fly again.

More and more scientists started filing into the room, they started hooking up wires and other strange devices to me.

"Dave... give it to me simply, is this going to hurt, and do you know if this is going to work?" I asked worriedly.

"Probably!" Dave said after flipping a switch.

I blacked out... again.
