Chapter 090: Alluka/Nanika Zoldyck

Sequel to "Chapter 89: Killua Zoldyck"

Saving Gon and rescuing Alluka from the Zoldyck mansion had been his main goals, but Killua couldn't resist making one particular stop. Despite being on the run and evading his father's watchdogs, he had to see Kagome no matter what. It was an almost-desperate sensation that coursed through his body, his mind buzzing with the sheer need to be in the raven haired beauty's presence.

Alluka happily trailed beside her brother, cheery eyes gazing around their colorful surroundings in awe and excitement. "Where are we going, big brother?" she inquired.

"We're going to meet someone important to me," Killua answered, smiling in a reassuring way. "She makes an awesome cherry lime smoothie. You'll really like her, Alluka, I promise. She's amazing."

The younger Zoldyck clapped excitedly. "Yay! I'm so excited. I can't wait to meet them!"

"Yeah," he agreed. "I can't wait to see her, too."

The siblings arrived at the café. Upon entering, Killua scanned for the familiar raven haired beauty. His sapphire eyes brightened when he caught sight of her, and he waved a casual 'hello.' On the inside, however, his heartbeat picked up rapidly.

"Hey, Kagome," he greeted. "It's been a while."

Kagome smiled sweetly. "Hello, Killua," she returned. Then her eyes connected with the younger girl. Her smile widened in welcome. "And who is this? Is she your younger sister?"

Killua answered, "This is Alluka. Alluka, this is Kagome. She's the one I was telling you about."

Alluka gazed at the older girl with wide, interested eyes. "Wow," she breathed out, "you're so pretty! It's no wonder my big brother wants to marry you."

"Alluka," mentioned big brother reprimanded, cheeks flushing with embarrassment. How had she guessed that? It wasn't as though he had told her his intentions. Damn it, this is so embarrassing, his mind wailed.

Kagome merely giggled in response. It would be so typical for a younger sibling to do their best to embarrass their older sibling. But she could sense a genuine affection between the two.

She gestured to a familiar booth. "Would you two like something to eat? Order whatever you like," she offered.

Deciding to ignore his earlier embarrassment, Killua led Alluka to their seats. "I'll take my usual if that's okay, Kagome," he said. "What about you, Alluka? Everything on their menu is good."

Alluka hummed for a second before focusing her gaze onto Kagome. Holding out both hands, she smiled and said, "Big sister Kagome, give me the nail on your ring finger."

Killua instantly tensed, eyes widening in horror. This had never happened before. Nanika had started the wish-granting process with Tsubone. There shouldn't be any reason to fear that she would come out before the process ended. Nanika wasn't following the usual rules. But why?

Before the Zoldyck male could react, Kagome simply smiled at the little girl. Leaning down, she grabbed Alluka's hands in a gentle hold. Neither sibling saw the way lavender-colored sparks emitted from her fingers, flowing into the soft, delicate palms they engulfed.

"How about I get you some sugar cookies instead?" she offered. "I just made them, so they're fresh out of the oven. How does that sound?"

Nanika came out, her ghostly features overtaking Alluka's usual countenance. Her words were childish and sing-song. "But I want the nail from your ring finger."

"Nanika," Killua hissed from his seat, tensing even further. In the back of his mind, he was surprised Kagome appeared to be taking everything in calmly. He had known her for years but this was the first time he ever considered she may have had secrets of her own.

Kagome ignored Killua, her entire attention focused on the entity. "So, your name is Nanika? That's a pretty name," she said, smiling warmly. Releasing the small hands, she petted the top of Nanika's head. "You're such a good girl, Nanika. I'll be right back with your sugar cookies and Killua's smoothie, okay? Be patient and wait here for me."

Incredulously, Killua watched as Kagome walked away to fulfill their orders before turning his gaze back onto his little sister. Nanika was still present, though her facial features were soft and a blush stained her pale cheeks.

"Killua," she sing-songed, "I really like her. Kagome."

And, with a parting smile, Alluka regained control. Sapphire eyes sparkled as she clapped excitedly. "You were right, big brother! I really do like big sister Kagome. And Nanika does, too!"

What the hell just happened? He mentally yelled, confused by the entire scene.
