"Sarah, your grandparents are coming over for dinner today," Mrs. Carter announced on the way home.
Sarah shrugged, "Sure."
"Can we play at the playground for a while?" Sarah's younger brother Edward asked, looking up at his mother with pleading eyes.
"Please? Just for a little while?" Edward pleaded again when Mrs. Carter didn't reply.
"Fine, but ten minutes only." Mrs. Carter agreed reluctantly, "Sarah, bring your brother home later okay?"
Sarah nodded with a grin, "Of course."
Ten minutes, a sixth of an hour.
It might seem like a long time, but time flies when you're having fun.
Soon, it was time to go home.
Sarah said goodbye to the four girls she had played with and began walking home with her brother.
Yet, as soon as she crossed the street, she knew that something was wrong.
She had been staring at a lamp post when the world changed.
Instead of the usual plain sidewalk with the neat lamp posts, Sarah saw a white living room with a soft looking couch and dozens of paintings hung on the walls.
It looked the exact same as her own house.
Sarah stumbled, tripping on a brick.
She let out a soft curse as she righted herself and looked around.
But the vision wouldn't go away, it was all that she could see.
Sarah closed her eyes, but she could still see the vision.
She stumbled forward blindly, realizing she could no longer see her brother.
With a cry, she ran forward, blind and unaware of where she was going.
All that she knew, was that she had to go home, wherever she was. She let out a gasp as her vision suddenly became clear.
She was infront of a door with 406 written on it in fancy golden letters.
Home.
Or so she thought.
Fumbling for her house keys, she unlocked the door and walked in.
But the second that she did, she gasped.
The four girls she had played with at the playground were seated around the table, Mrs. Carter sat at the head of the table, smiling at Sarah.
"Oh, Sarah! You're home! I met these girls, they were wonderful, so I asked them to stay for dinner!" Mrs. Carter said with a smile.
"But aren't my grandparents coming over?" Sarah asked, stunned.
"You know how they are," Mrs. Carter giggled, "They always change their minds at the last moment."
Sarah forced a weak smile, though she suspected something was wrong. Mrs. Carter would never say anything like that.
Nevertheless, she sat down and began eating.
The food made her head spin, and in that moment, she saw five creatures with bloody fangs sitting near her, and instead of food, she was eating a piece of human meat.
Sarah gasped, nearly falling backwards.
"What's wrong, dear?" Mrs. Carter asked, worry in her tone.
"N-Nothing." Sarah muttered, trying hard to clear her mind of the horrible picture, "May I go outside and get some fresh air?"
"Of course." Mrs. Carter replied with a smile, turning to their guests, "They'll stay for a little while longer,"
Sarah nodded, but deap down, she felt queezy.
Racing down the stairs, she ran downstairs to the reception where an unfamiliar man sat, mumbling to himself as he read from a piece of paper.
Just before she was able to exit, the man called out to her.
"Hold it right there young missy!" He hollered.
Sarah stopped, turning to face the man, afraid that he would turn into a horrible creature as well.
"Where do you live?" He asked.
Sarah hesitated.
"Would it happen to be... 406?"
Sarah gasped, "That's where I live!"
The man frowned, lowering his tone, he continued, "The woman living there is a vampire named Ma-Sissy, I heard that once she went to a company and met a beautiful woman with a charming daughter and a young son, she's wanted to lure the woman's daughter ever since, so you'd better leave as quickly as possible."
Sarah's eyes widened in surprise, without thinking, she ran out the door.
Immediately, her vision became unfocused and she began to see the vision of her house again.
This time, she turned right, hoping to round the building.
There was a moment when she thought she had ran into a wall, but a moment later, her vision had cleared and she saw a familiar door with a familiar person peaking out from behind.
"Mom!" Sarah yelled, bursting into tears as she ran to imbrace her mother.
"Where were you?" Mrs. Carter asked, "I was worried sick!"
"Nevermind that," Sarah smiled.
"Alright, your grandparents are here, so you'd better get ready." Mrs. Carter grinned.
Sarah felt herself break into a smile because she knew that this person was her real mother instead of some crazy vampire.
