For many years, Julianna had managed to avoid mirrors and reflections of any kind. Removing them from her home had been easy: her bathroom was finished without a mirror above the sink and nothing else contained a reflective surface. Even the cutlery had a matt black finish, just in case. Although life continued as normal, she did miss her own reflection - photographs only show so much.
Unwanted memories began to fill her head. She was ten years old and, unknown to Julianna, her world was about to change forever.
Julianna was walking into the bathroom, getting ready to go out to dinner with one of her best friends.
With a smile, she stationed her things next to the mirror and began working on her hair.
Yet the second she lifted her eyes to look at the mirror's surface, her smile vanished. A creature with angelic skin and beautiful hair looked back at her with a warm smile.
Julianna couldn't help but gasp when the figure spoke inside her mind.
"Darling... I know what it is you most want..." the figure's voice was velvety soft, making Julianna shiver.
"Oh, don't worry." the reflection said with a laugh, "I'm not going to hurt you,"
Stupidly, Julianna had believed the reflection and done what it had told her to do.
She had murdered her own brother.
"I know that your mother compares you with him, I know how much you hate him." the reflection said in a soothing voice.
"What are you talking about!" Julianna asked, her eyes widenning in utter horror.
The voice laughed, "Your parents never loved you as much as your brother, what can you do compared to him?"
Anger had rippled through Julianna's mind.
"Pick up that knife." the voice instructed.
Cautiously, Julianna did.
The moment her hand wrapped around the knife's handle it felt good.
It felt like it was supposed to be there.
"Now, go do what you must." the voice said slowly.
Julianna had ran into her brother's room and just stabbed the knife through his chest.
Her brother had been too stunned to react.
"Clean the knife handle," the voice murmured, "then wrap his fingers around the knife."
When Julianna's parents returned home, they had been traumatized by the horrific scene infront of them.
When Juliana had finally came to her senses, she ran around the house and smashed all the mirrors she could find.
After a while, she had managed to get rid of all the mirrors in her house, atleast for a little while before her mother would go repair them, but every time she looked at the shiny floor, she saw the reflection again.
And once again, the reflection had controlled her and made her strangle her pet cat.
Yet this time, her mother had watched her commit murder.
Julianna had remembered the look of shock and horror on her mother's face as she watched her daughter toss the cat out the window.
Shaking herself from her thoughts, she scrunched up the piece of paper in her hand. Although the lure of a funfair was almost too strong to ignore, being so close to the mirror maze was surely too great a risk. Feeling overwhelmed, Julianna sat down and put her head in her hands.
