Chapter 44
Nancy grimaced.
"Great, how do we get out of here?"
Spider-Man shook his head. "We've got to find away, I'm not sure...oh, that can't be good."
Nancy turned to look in the same direction as he was and froze in shock. Approaching were a trio of rather large robotic, creatures was the only way to describe them. All of them had an array of weapons and were clearly designed as a security measure. They began to advance and immediately they saw that each of them had some sort of energy beam weapon which they were charging and about to fire at them.
"Move!"
They quickly dodged out of the way, the attacks scoring the floor. Spider-Man knew he had to get in close and so took aim at one of the machines and launched a pair of web lines, to his shock the webbing didn't even stick to the machine, it simply hit then slid off.
"What the-!?" He gasped but quickly had to dodge as the other two machines rapidly closed in to attack.
"Nancy, careful!" He cried.
He had to dodge a few more attacks, luckily his Spider-Sense kept him aware of their attempts to attack, either close up or with their weaponry, but he kept out of the way.
"This is...look." Nancy cried out.
Spidey managed to attached to the ceiling and was out of sight of the machines and looked to see what she was mentioning.
It struck him right away. Nancy wasn't hiding, she was still out in the corridor, but the robots weren't anywhere near her, or even going for her. He saw the red glow of what he assumed to be scanners from the robots, they passed over Nancy twice but they didn't react.
"They're...only after me." Spider-Man realized. "Great, just what I need. At least you're safe."
Nancy swallowed. "They must have been built to protect this place with you in mind."
Spider-Man let out a short laugh. "Wonderful, Spider-Slayers. I can't get my webs to stick to them and can't really do much damage due to their armour."
"They're getting closer, do you...do you think you can hold them off for a while." Nancy asked. "I've got an idea, I just hope it works."
"So do I, I'll do what I can." Spider-Man replied.
Nancy nodded and made her way into the large room the Spider-Slayers had come from. Spider-Man took this chance and leapt down, passing through the sensors and the slayers turned to him and immediately began to renew their attack. Spidey dodged the attack and this time, knowing he could use the Slayers to fix his webs to, he attached a web-line to the ceiling and used it to zip and reach one of the Slayers, he couldn't stick to them himself either but that was fine, he didn't need to. He immediately began attacking, doing what he could to damage the joints in it's armour, in hopes of prising parts off, in case Nancy's plans didn't work.
That was when he saw Nancy emerge, looking desperate. Nevertheless he soon learned her plan when she held up a remote and pressed a button on it. Sure enough, at that moment, the Spider-Slayer closest to the window exploded, a self-destruct button, which actually gave them an escape route, blowing open the window.
"That'll get attention, better make the rest of this quick." Spider-Man explained.
Nancy shook her head. "It's no good, that's the only one that works, the other two remotes were destroyed by those things as they made their way out of the room."
"Urgh, great…" Spider-Man groaned, dodging another attack. "Wait a moment, they're after me, their sensors pick up my Spider signature right?"
"That's what it seems, yeah." Nancy said. "What are we gonna do?"
Spider-Man had noticed something and managed to hide from the remaining two Slayers again, they started scanning once more.
"Listen, I've got an idea, I might be able to take them down quickly, but then we've gotta go, that explosions and the damage, they're gonna be looking for what's going on here and it's not gonna be pretty." He explained. "Wait by the window and I'll join you soon."
"I hope so." Nancy admitted.
She hurried to do just that while Spider-Man once again caught the attention of the Slayers and they began to pursue him again.
Making sure not to get too far ahead that they'd start shooting at him again, Spidey led the remaining two slayers into the room he had seen. He swung in through the door and landed up on the ceiling. Sure enough the Slayers stepped through and began scanning, which allowed Spider-Man's simple but effective trap to work. He had considered how their sensors were tuned to his Spider Signature and realized right away what he could do to take advantage of that and so lured them in here and watched as the room full of spiders overloaded their sensors and the overload proved too much and they short-circuited, their heads practically exploding as they then collapsed, defeated and destroyed.
'Can't believe Brenner would utilize something so destructive to prevent me from being here...he must really hate me and, well, look at this mess.' He reflected.
But he knew there was no time to dwell and so he quickly left the room and made it back to Nancy, they both nodded, hearing the sounds of approaching human security. But he quickly took hold of Nancy and swung out the open window away from Oscorp and preparing to take Nancy home, he could tell she was already forming plans to deal with Brenner and expose the truth, he just hoped it would work quickly enough.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
