Chapter 58

Standing firmly, Spider-Man glared at the Goblin.

"Time to end this."

The Goblin was no longer laughing. "Oh you are so right. Get ready fool, you have ruined my fun, I will make you pay!"

The Goblin looked around for a moment, but focused once more on Spider-Man. Spidey knew right away what this meant, he had been looking for Mike, clearly trying to regain the advantage, but couldn't and so he gave up and just focused on Spider-Man, ready to fight. Spider-Man was ready to fight too, but he also had another thing in mind, he still had what he needed, it was still working. All he needed to do was find the right opening. Now came the moment as the Goblin launched towards him on the Glider. Spider-Man nimbly dodged and even twisted in mid-air until he landed, this time dodging the bladed boomerangs and noticed right away that the Goblin had spun around and threw two pumpkin bombs.

"Uh-oh." He muttered.

He did his best to dodge the attack, but the shockwave and some of the explosion hit him and he yelped as he flew back, luckily hitting the wall of one of the four spires of the tower. He glared, realising his mask was damaged, his face was partly exposed, but not enough to expose his true identity, not to the Goblin.

Not taking another chance, Spidey reacted quickly and used a pair of web-lines to catapult himself directly at the Goblin at such speed that even the Goblin was surprised and shocked. That was enough of an opening for Spidey to tackle the Goblin and began to pummel him with several blows, the Goblin cried out as the tried to fight back but soon, after being beaten several times, he countered by grabbing Spidey by the neck and delivering a harsh punch to Spidey's stomach. Spider-Man let out a choked moan but then quickly reacted and yanked the Goblin's mask off. Norman Osborn roared angrily and went to attack again but Spidey quickly broke off a part of the glider and fell to the ground as the glider flew out of control, forcing the Goblin to bail, landing a few feet from Spider-Man. Both of them got to their feet and Norman snarled, charging at Spider-Man and attempting to attack but Spider-Man dodged the blows and quickly began to counter, landing several blows before having to dodge yet another strike from the Goblin before managing to counter and sending Norman staggering back, spun around, he quickly did something out of Spidey's view, using the control panel on his wrist. He then spun around and launched his last two pumpkin bombs, but Spidey dodged cleanly this time as he dodged above and this time struck Norman with several impact webs sending him down to the ground, securely bound.

"Norman, this has to stop!"

"You don't get to decide that." Green Goblin snapped. "The world needs to pay, my son, my son was taken from me by those...those monsters on the board and, so many people think they can control me, I will not-"

"You don't know what happened to Harry, you don't know the truth about how he died." Spider-Man warned him.

Green Goblin roared. "How dare you, how dare you assume you know what my son-!"

By this point he had broken free, but stopped in his attempted attack.

Spider-Man was standing above him, holding a tablet out to him.

"It was sent to your office the day after Harry died...there is a message on it that Harry recorded the day before he died. It was meant for you to see." He told him. "Watch it."

Norman narrowed his eyes, but took the tablet and looked at it, the screen showed a video, one that showed Harry. He pressed the play button and watched as Harry was shown setting the camera up and moved back so he was looking right in the camera, he was clearly in the hospital, pale and clearly in the grips of his illness, his final day. Yet he was smiling.

"Hi dad." He said, breathless. "I...If you're watching this, then you know what's happened to me. I want you to understand that, this was in no way anyone's fault, not yours, not the hospital staff...not the board of directors. In fact if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have even lived to end up in the hospital, wouldn't have lived long enough to record this."

He stopped for a moment, breaking into a coughing fit and grimaced once he was done.

"Sorry, I...It's getting worse, but there's nothing that can be worse." Harry explained. "I know you wanted to help me, wanted to use those methods to try and cure me. But they won't work, the side effects are too dangerous...I don't want that."

There was another pause, this time as Harry looked to his right, towards the door of his room and nodded before looking back at the camera.

"Dad, I wish you hadn't tried to find a cure...you know from what happened to mom that there wasn't a cure for me...I didn't want a cure either though. I've already accepted what would happen to me, I wish you could have as well." Harry explained. "I didn't want you to find a cure, I just wanted us to make the most of the time we had left. Please understand what this means dad, I love you and I hope...I hope you'll find a way to get over this and make something good for the future. Goodbye."

He reached over and shut the video off while Norman stared at the screen, tears spilling from his eyes.

Spider-Man gently began to approach but Norman looked up and saw.

"NO!"

He leapt up and shoved Spider-Man aside, just as the young Superhero's Spider-Sense was blaring at him. Norman cried out and Spidey quickly turned to see Norman impaled on his own glider. It had been sneaking up to ram into Spidey from behind. But in his last moments, no longer being the Green Goblin, but as Norman Osborn, specifically Norman Osborn the grieving father, he sacrificed himself to save Spider-Man. Spider-Man stood over Norman's body, staring in shock and disbelief, he heard the footsteps but didn't move, he didn't need to. Once Mike was by his side he gently wrapped his arm around Mike, Mike embracing Will as they stood for a moment, quiet as they contemplated Norman's end. They then heard the sirens and knew it was time to go. Keeping a firm grip on Mike, Will shot out a web-line and swung away from the Tower, the nightmare was finally over.
