Jake finally learns about his maternal grandfather.

Once I'm done with this job, I'm takin' ya to meet yer grandpa.

Jake couldn't get those words out of his head. Meet his grandpa? He didn't have one as far as he knew, Dad has never told him about... then again, that wouldn't be a surprise. Dad had never talked to him about mom until a few months ago. He did tell about his own mother, Jake's grandmother, but never about a father... Perhaps he didn't like talking about it?

"Jake?" the impling was brought out of his thoughts as he heard his father's voice.

"Huh?"

"I asked ya if yer okay, my boy. Ya haven't touched yer dinner."

Jake looked down at his untouched spaghetti. "Yeah, I'm fine... Dad, can I ask you something?"

"What is it?"

Jake took a deep breath. "When... Travers took me, he mentioned that I have a grandfather... Did you or momma have a dad?"

The glass slipped off Striker's hold and shattered on the floor, spilling its contents.

Striker cursed Travers under his breath. Then again, it's better if Jake learns about his grandfather from him rather than a stranger, or worse, Gustav himself.

"... His name is Gustav Brisont, and he's yer momma's father." Striker said, his voice serious. He thought carefully of what he was going to say next. "He never liked the idea of Jane and I bein' together 'cause we came from different social classes. He nearly forced her to marry someone else, but you could say I came to her rescue a second time." the memory of Gustav's face when he burst into the ceremony riding on Bombproof and stole Jane brought a small smirk to Striker's face. "Afterward, he disowned yer mother and wanted nothin' to do with her."

"Has he ever reached out for me? Does he know about me at all?" Jake asked, intrigued.

"I'm not sure how he found out, but he does. I actually had a word with 'im a few months ago. Ye were ill from the hangover and Blitzo stayed home with ya for a while, remember? Anyhow, Gustav..." Striker paused, unsure if he should tell Jake about the inheritance. "...Demanded to meet ya, but I told 'im to go fuck himself.

"Jake, if I didn't tell ya about Gustav it was to protect ya from him. He ain't a good person. I just... I don't want him to do to ya what he did to yer mother."

Jake felt... torn. While he had been curious about his grandfather, now that he's learned about him, he wasn't sure if he wanted to meet him after learning what he did to his parents.
