Quick AN: Based John's modern look from Chris Evans portrayal of Steve Rogers from Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

After the attack from Marshmallow's brother the previous day, Storybrooke's resident assassin was happy to find her bed again. This time with John next to her for the first time in years. After the kiss they shared she had invited him back to sleep in her bed with her and just that. She needed to take this one step at a time with him, for the time being.

As she gently rose from her sleep she heard a faint buzzing sound coming from her on suite bathroom that made her turn over to reach out for the man that she had fallen in love with when she had no one, only to be met by an empty space making her eye's fully open as she sat up to feel her heart beat a little faster as panicked thoughts went through her head wondering if the last day were truly real.

"Morning" his voice came from the small bathroom making her take a calming breath. Her eye's confirmed what she had heard as she saw John leaning on the door frame in his new clothes she had picked out for him yesterday. But it wasn't the white vest or blue jeans that comfortably sat on his hips. It was his hair. His face clean shaven with his hair cut shorter, now styled with product he must have burrowed from Tom to make it look more modern, with neat sideburns either side of his face. Short hair always suited him. He looked good.

"I remembered how you would refuse to kiss me after a day or two without shaving" he said throwing the towel he was using to wipe his face dry with back into the bathroom.

"It felt like kissing a…"

"Sea urchin" he finished for her "I know. I still don't understand why you would even kiss one" he stated quizzically with a charming smile that always made her stomach flutter "Do you like it?" he asks her as he rests his hand above her knee, below the cotton shorts she had slept in all night as if he was testing the new boundaries with his wife.

"It's okay I guess" she trails off acting like she was disinterested, but he knew this play well enough as he scooted himself closer to himself as his hand glided towards the hem of the shorts making an eyebrow rise on her face letting him know it was working as he hovered his face over hers, their hooded eye's met as he closed the distance between them placing his lips hers only to pull away before she could kiss him back.

"How about now?" he asked his voice was an pitch lower than it was.

"I really hate it when you do that" she tells him before pulling back forwards by his white vest to capture his lips on her's as the familiar sparks went through her as she leaned back onto her bed with fistfuls of his vest still in her hands making him climb up over her until a jean clad leg fitted between her knees as her fingers threaded through his shorter hair making John smile to himself feeling her nails slightly scrape against his head. She did like it.

"Mom! I need a ride to Henry's!" the heated moment was cut short as soon as Tom's voice came through the wooden door making them both pull away and freeze. She forgot she was dropping him off at the loft for the day while she and John explored Storybrooke. She had only been able to show him a few places before she had to go to the Mayor's office.

"O-One Minute!" she stammered out as she felt her cheeks burn in embarrassment. They never had this problem on the Godspeed. Placing a silent finger on her lips she urged her husband to be quiet as she listened for their sons' footsteps to move away from the door. Once it was safe a wide smirk grew on each their faces before laughter bubbled from their chests until John ended rolling over her to land back onto the bed next to her again as their laughter died down.

Turning on his side the former Captain propped himself up on his elbow to look down at his wife "Another time then?" he suggested making her mirror his position.

"Maybe I can schedule a sleepover?" she suggested leaning up and kissing the corner of his mouth.

"Sounds good" he mumbled as he caught her lips again, that distracted his wife once again, as she reached over to cup the smooth skin on his jaw, getting lost in his kiss once again until a voice reminded her of what needed to happen in the next hour making them break the kiss again.

"Mom!" the teen yelled through the door again.

"Okay!" she yelled back as John stood up and pulled her up from the bed as she continued to "You know you could walk!" she loudly suggested to the teen hearing an inaudible grumble come from the other side of the door, making the blonde man chuckle at the pair as he headed for the door grabbing a dark blue jumper on his way "Get dressed Amy, I'll temper him until you get out" he tells her "Like I used to".

"You can't pick him up and rock him anymore" she reminds the former Captain.

"Who say's I can't?" he retorted with a smirk before leaving her alone in her bedroom.

A smile grew on her face hearing the family she made were waiting for her for the first time in what seemed like forever. Today was going to be a good day. She knew it.

The day went by without incident once the Smith couple dropped their son in front of the building that housed the Charming family. As promised Amelia took her estranged husband exploring around the town, from going down main street introducing himself to anyone that took interest in them, but as they met the sixth dwarf she could tell it was getting a little overwhelming for the captain as he starting looking for any sign to escape the conversation.

So to ease his mind she took him to the one place she knew would calm him down. The docks. Once they sat down on a free bench he instantly calmed down as he watched the water. She remembered doing the same thing when she was cursed. It reminded them of their life together before it was torn apart. He felt like the closest thing to home near the sea.

Luckily they hadn't heard anything from either sheriff of any development of the person that was behind Marshmallow. Emma knew they were both holding back on what they knew about Elsa, which only frustrated the woman to no end. But they both feared what could happen to Storybrooke if Elsa lost control of her powers. Arendelle just about survived, but any villain lurking in the shadows would be able to take full advantage of the distracted heroes' and the rehabilitated villain's.

She managed to distract his thoughts as she told him about her life in Storybrooke and the people in it. Even mentioning Henry. The former Queen's adopted son a few times, each time she spoke about him his eye's lit up the same way when she talked about Tom, she loved him as if he was her own son. Even explaining how she was even related to him through her Uncle's son, Neal. She had found the family she had been searching for without him.

She was happy.

Once it got dark enough the couple headed back to the apartment building to pick up their son before going to Granny's for dinner. She was glad to hear that despite her and Regina's break-up they were still wanting to hang out together.

The small family of three found themselves in a booth together with a menu each as they waited for a waitress to take their order. Sat beside her first-love she talked him through each new dish to him as Tom sat opposite them watching his father hang onto every word his mother said about the food in this realm. It was nice. She looked happy as she comfortably nestled herself under his fathers arm leaning back onto his chest like they had been back together for years and not just a few days. It made him wonder what they were like back on the ship they had together.

As the diner was oddly un-busy for the evening rush, Granny herself was the one to find the small family ready with a pen and notepad to take their order. A fond smile grew on the older woman face as she looked at the way the former assassin was nestled under her husbands arm.

"Well doesn't this look like a nice little family picture" the old woman commented as the redhead and her husband looked up to see her at their booth.

"My Granny what big eye's you have" Amelia drawled out in response giving the woman their menu's.

"All the more to see you happy with your family Amelia" she retorted as she takes them from the redhead.

"I miss our old verbal-sparring sessions" the redhead replied fondly.

"I don't. It usually ended in a knife being thrown at my granddaughter".

"I remember missing".

"I remember the hole's you left in my wall. Now what do you kids want?".

"Two lasagnas and a burger and fries with a side salad" she tells the older woman as the door opened to a very sullen Henry coming into the diner "And a hot coco with cinnamon, extra everything" Granny saw Henry and nodded knowing where the coco was really going and left the family to themselves.

She turned to John in the booth "I'm going to talk to him" John nodded understanding as he lifted his arm from behind her as she slipped out and headed for the bar where Henry had sat himself at.

She crossed the diner to tap Henry's shoulder with a tight-lipped smile "This seat taken?".

He turned surprised to see her there "Lia. Sure" he watched her take the stool next to him as Granny placed a mug of coco in front of him. He looked at the older woman in confusion as he hadn't ordered anything. Granny's eyes flickered to the red head beside him, silently telling him who had ordered the hot drink.

"It's a bribe by the way" Amelia told him making him lightly chuckle.

"What for?" Henry asked the red head.

"To get you to talk to me. I know I'm not your favorite person right now, with everything's that's happened with your Mom and I..." she trailed off not sure how to finish her sentence.

"No, that's not true Lia, I could never hate you"

"I didn't say you hated me" she pointed out "At least tell me what happened? Tom said you guys had a good day today".

"Mom said she didn't want to see me" he said into his mug as he played with one of the marshmallows sat on the cream "I was going over with a basket full of things that would make her feel better after a breakup".

"Oh Henry" she sighed "She sent it via bird, didn't she?" he nodded at her making her internally cringe "Listen I've been sent many birds from her like that over the years, it doesn't mean you should give up at the first hurdle".

"You would know wouldn't you" he retorted sharply seeing the redhead jump back at his tone "Sorry" he mumbled taking a sip from his drink.

"No. Don't ever be sorry for how your feeling" Amelia tells him "I would be angry too. I know things aren't what you thought they might be, but she still loves you. I hurt her. She just needs time" she said as Granny came out of the kitchen with a tray full of food for them "You're more than welcome to join us you know, I know John would like to get to know you" she offered him.

"Maybe another time" he politely declined "Thanks Lia".

"No problem" she gulped before making her way back over to the booth sitting back down next to her husband with a defeated sigh as the guilt ate away at her stomach. She needed to be the bad guy for a while. She was used to it after all. But seeing it from Henry was something else.

"He'll come around Amy" John tried to reassure her with a comforting hand on her knee.

"I know" she sighed out before turning her attention to her meal.

The bell above the door rung out making the redhead look up to see Emma stood there like a deer in head lights looking straight back at her. With a polite nod from the assassin the blonde headed straight for her son at the counter while the Smith family continued their meal together.

"You know, that is not exactly what she said" Amelia overheard the blonde tell her son "I read the note. She said for right now, while she's dealing with things" Emma told Henry as he continued to nurse the coco that had extra everything on it, in front of him.

"She doesn't want to see me".

"She's in a lot of pain over Amelia and everything else that's happened over the last- well, forever" she tried to explain "Things have been tough on her and you. She's trying to fix them so that you two can be together... Because she cares about you".

"So, why'd she tell me to stay away?" he asked his mother.

"Because she thinks she's making things better".

"She's not" Emma sighed in frustration just as the lights in the diner flickered out making the small family in the booth look up from their meal.

"What the hell?" Emma mumbled to herself as she stood up from the counter in slight panic.

"Emma, I-I'm getting calls from all over" David's voice came over the walkie talkie "It's a town-wide blackout"

"Yeah, copy that. I'm looking at it" she replies.

"I'll swing by to get you. We can check this out"

Turning to Henry "Hey, kid. You want to come along on this one? We can call it operation... Nightshade or, uh, blackthorn or..."

"That's okay" he mumbled over the mug. Emma wasn't sure what to do, she didn't think she could keep him here in the middle of a blackout until a masculine voice called out to her.

"Don't worry" John tells the blonde making her look over at the Smith booth "We'll keep an eye on him" he tells the blonde woman that brought him back from the past. Even if it was against his will.

Giving the man an appreciative nod she leaves the diner to see what new drama was being thrown at them.

She knew things were going too well as they continued to eat their meals in peace before they were called.

Things went south quickly as soon as David, Emma and Hook met at the edge of town to find an ice wall that surrounded the whole town trapping them within. The wall was also the cause of the town wide power cut.

Emma had found the cause of the Ice wall; a young witch name Elsa had accidentally trapped them both inside the wall and given David and Hook the task of tracking down her sister Anna.

Calling from the road the town's second sheriff asked the resident assassin and her husband to meet them at the pawn shop needing some extra help. Sending Tom and Henry to the loft the family abandoned their meal to hurry to her Uncle's shop.

The bell on the pawn shops door rung out announcing their late arrival as they found David and Hook already confronting the old man and his new wife on the other side of the counter.

"And this involves me because" Mr. Gold curtly asks the men in front of him just as he see's his niece and husband enter "Ah here's the couple of the moment".

"Shut it old man otherwise you'll have to find your dagger in a not so fun place" she retorted as she made her way to the counter with her husband behind her.

John followed her until he stopped seeing the young brunette stood at the counter. Belle's eyes lit up and a wide smile grew on her face at the sight of Amelia's estranged husband "John?" she called out as she recognized the man with a beaming smile on her face.

"Belle?" he replied is disbelief. Belle nodded as she walked around the counter and jumped into his arms into a hug making Amelia's jaw drop as well as the others at the un-seen reunion before them.

The two pulled apart but held onto each other's forearms in their excitement "I can't believe it's you, I- I- had no idea" Belle stammered in excitement.

"Me neither, how are you" Amelia and her uncle looked on to the reunion in a mixture of disbelief and confusion. Even he didn't see it coming.

Belle went to answer about to show him the ring on her finger only for Amelia's voice to break the moment.

"As lovely that you already know my husband Belle" the redhead says making her new aunt look at her "Could we put a pin on reunion later Emma needs us" the former assassin reminded the group turning back to her uncle "Is there anything you can do?".

"Well, I could melt the ice and destroy it with a thought" he said before looking towards Hook "but that would also destroy your girlfriend. Is that what you want?" Gold tells them.

"No one's destroying anyone" the Prince tells them "Now, the woman who has Emma trapped is in there with her, and she's looking for her sister... name of Anna" John looks down to meet his wife eye's knowing confirming their suspicions as David continued "She thinks she's in town because of something of hers she found in your shop... A necklace".

Belle picks up an inventory card and hand it to David "Is that it?".

"Wait. I know this. I know exactly who Anna is" giving the card back to Belle and heading to the door only to be stopped by Amelia and John stood shoulder to shoulder blocking their only way out of the shop.

"We have something to tell you" Amelia started.

"Can it wait?" Killian asks the couple in annoyance.

"No" John snapped at the pirate "It can't".

"What is it?" David asked the red head.

"We know Elsa, we met her before we got married" the redhead supplied to the pair.

"What!" the pirate exclaimed in anger towards the couple "You decided to keep this to yourself for this long?".

"It not that simple pirate" Amelia sniped at the leather clad pirate defensively "it's a long story but if Anna is really missing, she'll go to any means necessary to get her sister back. But she's not the bad guy here, you both need to stop treating her like the villain, she's not one"

"And how exactly do you know this luv?".

"She's just scared" John tells the men "Elsa means well, when she's scared, she loses control of her power's".

"We just need to keep her calm; some friendly voices might help" Amelia tells the pair before them.

"Okay" David says accepting their brief explanation "We need to make a detour first".

Following Hook around the back of the local butcher's shop where Little Bo Peep had been running since the first curse. She and the pirate heard the sound of a cleaver thudding against raw meat as David faced the woman head on with John hanging out the front as backup in case things went further south. He was as invested as she was in helping Elsa gain control of her powers again so they could help Emma.

"Sorry, lambkins. We're closed" Peep tells the shepherd turned Prince as he entered the shop as she continued to thud her meat cleaver against the chopping board.

"I need your help" David plainly tells the woman.

"You and me... We ain't friends" she reminds him "I'm not interested. Get out" she demands waving the cleaver in her hand towards the door.

"You don't have your helpers here with you anymore, peep".

"Right" she says holding large knife up"I just have one. Say hello".

Amelia is the first one to jump out of the back to catch the woman's arm in a vice grip that would even make the strongest man whimper in pain while Hook simply plucked the large knife from her grip. The redhead forced the woman around and push her up against a freezer, with an elbow firmly placed against her collarbone.

Hearing the commotion John bursts into the store to see his wife holding the owner with her elbow, with a look in her eye he had only seen on the night they were re-united.

"Hello again Bo" the former widow greets the woman with a dark smirk.

"Widow" the woman growled as David steps forwards to stand next to the redhead.

"Now, my daughter's in trouble, and I need to find the person that can help her... Someone you branded".

"I branded a lot of people" Peep tells the Prince only for the former Assassin to pushed her further into the freezer door.

"Maybe some time with me and my blades will give you some clarity Bo" Amelia lowly threatens the woman she was holding against the freezer. John felt powerless as he watched the woman he loved so easily threaten else. Like she had done it hundreds of times before. This side of her scared him.

"We're not scared of you anymore" Bo Peep sneers into her face "You've lost your bite" she tells her.

"Haven't you been playing attention Peep? When it comes to people I care about.." she trails off leaning closer to whisper into her ear "You should be terrified of me".

"Her name was Anna" David clarifies as the redhead pulls away from the woman's face "She went by 'Joan' back then".

"Do I look like I keep a record book? 'Cause I don't".

"Then you know what I need" David says with his eye's firmly on the woman that terrorized him and his mother for years "Hook, back room. She won't keep it far from her. You're looking for a Shepherd's crook" hearing the retreating footsteps, the pair holding Bo Peep didn't have to wait long for the pirate to return with the Shepard's crook in his hand as the woman tried to push herself out of the Widow's grips only to be quickly held back by the strong assassin.

"Hey. Hey! That's my personal property. Give it up!" Peep protested as Hook heads for the door. Having gotten what they were looking for the assassin lets the woman push herself off the freezer only to be pushed away again as they all headed for the door.

"Sorry" David tells the woman as he heads to the door with Amelia leading the way.

"Ah, so, in this world, you're a hero?" Bo Peep spits at the Shepherd making him and the redhead pause.

"In this world, I don't have to answer to you" the former shepherd tell her.

"What about you Widow?" Bo Peep sneer's at the redhead "I thought your Black Widow days were behind you now you've left your Queen, or doesn't your hubby know about your darker side"

Hearing this Amelia takes a dangerous step towards the woman only to to be stopped when she feel's John's hand in her's tugging her back away from her.

"I do know" John suddenly speaks up taking his wife by surprise as he looks straight at Bo Peep "I have a dark side too, you just haven't seen it yet".

"Let's go find Anna." David says as they all head towards the door only to pause again to hear chatter from the walkie talkie in Hook's hand "Hook?".

"I'ts that woman, Elsa" the pirate tells them "She said Emma's passed out. She's freezing to death"

"We need to go" John speaks up taking his wife's hand and dragging her out of the butcher shop.

The four raced to the ice wall as Storybrooke remained in darkness, with the Smith couple in her black car and David and Hook in the sheriff's car. Stopping short of Davids car she and John quickly left the car to catch up with the second sheriff and the pirate as they ran to the wall.

"Give me the walkie" the redhead demands out of the former Prince with her hand out "let me talk to her" the Prince nods handing the red head the walkie as the men saw her walk up to the wall.

Bringing the walkie up to her mouth Amelia spoke into it "Elsa!" she says into "Elsa its Amelia, please answer me" she desperately said into the walkie as she waits for any sign of a reply. Hook looked over to the assassin who's eye had turned gold around her irises.

"Can you see them?" Hook asks the redhead seeing her eyes glow in the darkness. Inside were two blue figures, on the ground and the other on her feet. She could see how faint the outline of Emma's figure was getting.

"I can" she simply replies not wanting to panic the pirate next to her.

"Amelia?" Elsa's voice came through the devise making the assassin let out a sigh of relief "Is that really you?".

"It's me Elsa, but I need you to tell me how Emma is".

"Lia she's freezing…turning blue" Elsa tells her.

"NO!" Hook exclaimed using his hook to try and break though the ice in desperation to get to the woman he loved "Emma!".

The redhead instantly grabs the mans arm to stop him as his hook was barely making a scratch on the wall. they would be here all night if he continued and Emma didn't have all night for her knight in black leather to rescue her with a hook. She needed Elsa to use her powers. It was the only way.

"You need to stay calm" she sternly tells the pirate before he snatches his arm out of her grip. Turning back to the walkie, the redhead continues to try and talk to her old friend "Listen, we need you to find a way out Elsa"

"I need Anna, Lia. I can't find her" the ice queen tells her.

"I know you need her, I'll help you find her I promise. We may have found a way to find her, but right now, you're gonna have to do this on your own".

"I can't control this".

Before Amelia could answer her friend, David snatched the walkie out of her hand and spoke into it "I know how you feel. You're trapped. It's a battle you can't win, but it's exactly the kind of battle you have to fight, or you'll die"

"No, I won't" Elsa tells David "I'll survive. But Emma...".

"Survival isn't enough. You have to live" David quotes to the Ice Queen.

"Where did you hear that?" the blonde Queen questions the man.

"You know where".

"Anna? You knew her?".

"Yeah, I did. She helped me once, a long time ago, become who I am. She saved my life and yours, and now I need you to save Emma's. I didn't know much about Anna, but... She wouldn't want you to live alone in an ice cave, which is where you'll be if you don't melt that ice. Now do it!".

With renewed determination, Elsa stand up and hold out her hand towards the ice wall using her magic to create a hole in it.

"It's working. I can see her" Hook tells them looking through the hole, once the hole was created Elsa helps the freezing savior out of the ice wall Hook grabs the cold woman first and engulfs her in a hug taking her away from ice wall and back to the truck where John opens the door open for the pirate. Giving the man an appreciative nod as he carries the woman he loves to safety.

Amelia helps the Ice Queen from the wall only for the woman to throw her arms around the redhead's neck as the redhead wrapped her arms around the woman, she had met all those years ago.

"You did it" Amelia say's into the Queen's shoulder before pulling away to face the woman for the first time in years "You saved her".

"Yes, I did. But I also endangered her" she turns her head to the Prince "You owe me nothing".

"I owe your sister everything, and what I said was true. She helped me, and now I'm gonna help you. This isn't over. We're gonna find Anna".

The power still hadn't returned once the adults returned to the loft to be greeting by Tom and Henry who ran down the metal stairs as soon as they heard the return of the adults opening the loft door.

Hook gratefully allowed John to help him carry the half frozen savior up the stairs to the apartment as Amelia opened doors up for them, needing to warm up the blonde savior from her time trapped in a wall of ice.

"Blankets?" Amelia throws the question towards the Prince as they stepped into the apartment

"Upstairs!" he answers guiding his daughter into the home.

"Come on boys get to work" Amelia prompts the near teenagers as they bound up the stairs one after the other as they bring Emma to a chair in the living room. Tom was the first to return with a thick blanket handing it to his mother quickly with Henry close behind him.

"Good job honey" she tells her son taking the blanket and wrapping it around the savior shoulders a David did the same with another, as they got to work warming the woman back up by rubbing her shoulders.

"Thanks Lia" Emma shivered out through chattering teeth as Hook crouches down to get a look at the woman entwining their fingers.

"You okay?" David asks his daughter in concern.

"She's so cold" the pirate answers the mans question, as the lights suddenly come back on. Hook goes to the bathroom and brings out an electric heater and points it at the savior.

John stood the side not knowing what else to do as his wife stepped up to help the people she cared about. This was the woman he loved, not that other one he say threatening that woman.

"Oh, that's good" Emma sighed feeling the heat.

"I'll go make some hot cocoa" Henry tells his mother.

"Wait" Emma tell him as he stands up.

"I know. With cinnamon" he adds.

Emma grabs her son in a tight hug "I'm sorry if I wasn't much help earlier, kid"

"I'm just glad you're okay. I was already down to one mother, and I won't go lower than that" he tells her before going heading to the kitchen to start the hot coco's only to stop when he saw Amelia's husband John stood to the side, not knowing what to do.

He needed to give him a chance, he was family after all. He was in a strange land he knew nothing of, he would need all the support he could get even if he was the cause of the latest drama's to befall his mother's love life with the assassin.

"John" he called out to the man making the captain see the boy that his wife had been talking about all day, Amelia glanced up to see the the pre-teen approach her husband "Did you wanna help me? It's a family recipe"

"Uh sure Henry, lead the way" he said looking to his wide with a pair of raised eyebrows before following him and Tom into the kitchen.

Stepping away from the warming blonde she caught Henry's gaze as he and Tom guided the man through how to make a coco.

'Thank you' she mouths to his while looking at her husband who had his back to her. She knew it must be hard for him. She was just grateful he was giving the captain the chance.

'Your Welcome' he mouths back with a smile, before focusing back at the task in hand.

Turning back she see's Elsa in a her own little world as she gently grasps her old friends hand in hers, taking the Queen by surprise, her green eyes meeting blue as she seeing how much time had passed since the last time she had seen her sailing away with her new husband in the Godspeed.

The years had been kind on her friends as she see's the young man next to the captain, Tom was the product of their love story in Arendelle. A boy of fifteen that was quickly turning into a man, she and Anna would've loved to see him grow up only to get trapped and thrown through time with no memory of what had happened.

The Queen winds her arms around her old friend as the redhead mirrored her, trying to give the woman as much comfort as she could knowing Anna was missing.

"We've missed you Lia" the ice queen says into the assassin's shoulder.

"I've missed you too" she tells her first friend "You've missed a lot" she says as they parted to see Tom and John in the kitchen.

"I know" Elsa says with a watery sniff "I can't believe you have a son" she says looking at Tom.

"Me too" Amelia slowly replies with a fond smile only for the smile on the Queen's face to falter.

"Elsa...you okay?" Emma asks from her chair seeing the sad look on her face.

"Not only have I lost my sister, I've lost her necklace, too" Elsa tells her "Now I have nothing of hers".

Grabbing Bo Peep's crook David crosses the room to hand it to Elsa "Then let's find her".

Elsa take the crook from David, the group wait for something to happen that would tell them where Anna was "I don't see anything".

"It should work" David tells her.

"Is it broken?" Hook asks next to Emma.

"It'should" Amelia speaks up "I can still sense the magic that surrounds it" Elsa nods in understanding.

"Or does it mean something happened to her?" Elsa asked aloud, the group went silent as a low thudding came from the crook confusing them.

"Wait" John speaks up from his spot at the breakfast bar with Tom "What's that sound?" he asks as the thudding continues.

"Is that a heartbeat?".

"It is" Amelia tells the woman with a smile.

"We might not know where your sister is..."Emma says "But we know the most important thing".

"She's alive" Elsa sighed out in relief as they were suddenly interrupted by the front door opening, the group see Mary Margaret enter the apartment fresh from her night of turning the power back on with baby Neal in her arms.

"Who's alive?" "Who's alive?" she asks hearing the last part of the sentence, she looks around to see Amelia's husband and son at the breakfast bar and a strange woman in a blue dress stood next to Amelia and her husband "Oh. Who are you?" she politely asks.

"Uh, this is Elsa" David tells his wife "We're gonna find her sister. That's what this family does. We find people" she tells her he joins his wife's side "We always do, because we really... Really don't like to give up".

David's words resonated in the redheads mind as a wave of guilt washed over her once again.

Did she just give up on Regina too fast?.

The Smith family remained quiet as they got ready for bed that evening as the couple hadn't said a word since re-uniting with Elsa. There wasn't much to say as John saw another glimpse of the Widow at her best that evening. She found solitude in her bathroom as the readied herself to sleep the night away after another stressful unplanned evening.

Emerging from her bathroom in her sleeping shorts and a tanks top she found John already on his side of the bed with nothing covering his firm chest and a pair of pajama pants he seemed to be growing on him. It was still weird seeing him on her bed. She was so used to the other side either being completely empty or being occupied by Regina.

Ignoring his gaze she walked over to her side of the bed to climb into bed, resting her head onto her soft pillow to close her eyes ready for sleep to overtake only to feel John lying down next to her.

"Do you ever think we should have stayed in Arendelle?" John suddenly asks her making her open her eye's up to see him looking straight back at her from his pillow "Settle down somewhere in the mountains, I could fish while you stayed in town helping around"

"Sometimes" she mused "I always imagined settling down in the middle of nowhere with miles of fields around us. Just us and Tom" she "But you know why we had to leave" she reminded him because it did find them in the end.

"I do" he gulps.

"It would've never have worked" she tells him "Even if the Brotherhood or the Templar's hunting me down my Uncle would've come eventually needing my 'services' in this land to find his son".

"Your Uncle?" he asked furrowing his eye's at her in confusion.

He didn't know. Something else she would have to tell him. At this rate she would need a book or two to completely inform him of the live she lived between the Godspeed sinking and now to catch him up.

"My Uncle. Also known as the Dark One Rumpelstiltskin" she informs him as John feels his stomach drop at the revelation. He didn't recognize him earlier, but he saw the similarities now. The man under the glittery skin and leather. It was him. He had only met him once in his life when they sought help from the rock troll's but never again after what Amelia had to pay to get her back to the Godspeed.

"H-how?" he stammered.

"I didn't know until a year ago when we needed to find Henry on Neverland. He gave me a letter from Romeo asking him to find me after my mother died. Look there's a lot of history there, I'm too tired to get into it now" she whines burying her face into her pillow.

"Okay" he breathed out seeing the weariness in his wife's face "Get some sleep Amy" he tells her as he feels her trying to snuggle herself into his chest.

"Love you Cap" she mumbled as she placing a gently kiss on his chest, just over his heart as she finally lets sleep over take her world feeling him place a loving kiss on the top of her head.

"Love you too Amy" he whispers to her as he held her to his chest. There was still a lot to learn about his wife. Starting with the way she reacted when Bo Peep mentioned the Queen. There was something more there than just being together. And he was going to find out.
