Author Notes: this is a "My Hero Academia (Boku no Hiro Akademia) fanfiction story. I claim no rights, or anything associated with this series as they are rightfully owned by Kohei Horikoshi. This is an AU story that I came up with after seeing the images of Izuku looking like a snake. Some of the abilities and attacks that Izuku will have either come from other anime/manga series (so please don't hate). The images that I will be using aren't mine as I got them from the web so all credit goes to them. Warning before I begin, it won't be exactly like the series as I did change things to make this story my own. First thing is that Katsuki Bakugo isn't a bully to Izuku as he is a true and loyal best friend, second thing is that All Might never gives his quirk to anyone nor is he injured or getting weaker, third thing is that Izuku's have a quirk will have abilities similar to that of Mina's and Asui's but very different in the way that he uses it, and fourth thing is that I will be not having four people in the story because I don't either like them or don't find them useful for this story (Yuga Aoyama, Koji Koda, Toru Hagakure, and Minoru Mineta). Please be sure to leave your thoughts and comments telling me what you think of the story as I greatly appreciate the feedback. Also who do you guys think should win the sports festival? I have an idea of whom I would like to see win but I would like your guys opinion.

Chapter Nine: the sports festival – round one

Class 1A students all sat in their homeroom waiting for a substitute teacher to arrive. They all knew that Aizawa would be out for a while thanks because of the injuries that he had received at USJ. The students received quite a shock when what looked like to be a mummified Aizawa had entered the classroom.

"Everyone take your seats." he commanded.

"Are you sure that you're well enough to teach Mr. Aizawa?" asked Iida in concern.

"I have done some healing sessions with Recovery Girl so, I will be alright." he answered Once everyone was in their seats, Aizawa let out a long sigh. "First the UA staff looked into how the villains learned about our trip to the USJ and took precautions to make certain events like that do not happen again. That being said, most of you very well considering what happened while others rose to the occasion showing that they have what it takes to become true heroes." he stated looking at the ones who not only helped All Might but also alerted the teachers about what was going on. "Anyways, I have announcement to make... UA has decided to go forward with its annual sports festival."

"Will it be safe for us to hold the event considering what had happened?" asked Kirishima.

"UA has heightened security as we also asked heroes to help be security guards in place for the event. Its mainly being held to not only show the public that UA still stands proud. It will also show everyone the new heroes that we have whom will usher the new age." answered Aizawa.

The whole class seemed over excited about the sports festival as it was like the Olympics only this one was geared more towards superheroes. It was a nation wide televised event showing the world what new heroes the number one school in Japan had coming.

"You will be given a week to train and to prepare for the sports festival. Now let's move onto more pressing matters..."

"Choosing your hero name!" finished off Midnight as the R rated hero after she had entered the classroom. The students cheered at the thought of finally determining their hero names. Aizawa glared at the class shutting them up instantly.

"Your hero name will not only reflect you as a person but the type of hero that you want to be." Aizawa stated.

"And I am here to help guide you and help you chose a proper hero name. You don't want to go with a lame hero name suggested by someone else." Midnight stated as she looked at Aizawa. Aizawa signed softly as he knew full well that he was terrible at these kinds of things. He had went with a suggestion made by his two closest friends and classmates Oboro Shirakumo and Hizashi Yamada.

Midnight handed out small wipe boards alone with erasable markers.

"I want you all to keep in mind to work off your quirks and chose suitable hero names. Any name that I don't personally approve of will have to go back to the drawing board." she stated. Midnight could see some begin to write on their boards. "Oh we are also going to share the name that you chose as you get to explain why you chose it." Some seemed afraid while others seemed anxious. "So whose ready?" Mina raised her hand as she skipped up front. Her chose hero name was given a frown by Midnight and told it was hinting at copyright infringement. Mina went back to her seat as this time Tsuyu stepped up.

"I have had this nickname since childhood. I'm the rainy season hero, Froppy." The class began to chant her hero name. Once Asui got her name got approval others began to share their hero names. Mashirao Ojiro chose to be called "Tail Man," Ochaco Uraraka chose to be called "Uravity," Denki Kaminari chose to be called "Chargebolt," and Mina Ashido finally chose to be called "Pinky." Eijiro Kirishima chose to pay homage to a hero of the past as he chose to be called "Red Riot."

"If you chose to bare the name of someone you admire, then you have that much more to live up to."

"I welcome the challenge as Crimson Riot was my idol and someone that I wanted to be like if I become a hero." replied Kirishima. Midnight nodded her head in approval. Rikido Sato chose to be called "Sugar Man," Mezo Shoji chose to be called "Tentacole," Kyoka Jiro chose to be called "Earphone Jack," Hanta Sero chose to be called "Cellaphane," Fumikage Tokoyami chose to be called "Tsukuyomi," and Momo Yaoyorozu chose to be called "Creati."

"All that we have left is Shoto Todoroki, Katsuki Bakugo, Tenya Iida, and Izuku Midoriya." stated Midnight. Both Shoto and Tenya chose to go with their names. Izuku finally took the stand revealing the name he had chosen.

"Wait doesn't that mean useless? Are you certain that you want that to be your hero name?" asked Midnight.

"Growing up I used to hate this nickname when it was given to me before my powers fully manifested. But a close friend of mine who told me another meaning to this name. Therefore I want to be known as Deku, the hero whom can do anything they set their minds to." stated Izuku. Hearing Izuku's hero name and the reason he chose it brought a smile to Bakugo's face. He quickly erased the name on his board and wrote a new one. As Iuzku walked back to his seat smile, Bakugo walked up giving Izuku a quick fist bump when their paths crossed. Bakugo took the stand as he took a deep breath letting it out slowly before he revealed his hero name. No one except for one person would ever think he would chose the name that was on the board.

"I chose Ground Zero as it was a close friend whom pointed out that since I am the source of the explosions that makes me ground zero." stated Katsuki (sorry but I just don't like the name that he chose for himself in the series "Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight" so I am going with a codename that is popular in lots of fanfictions). A large smile stretched across Izuku's face when Bakugo revealed his name. It was Izuku whom came up with the name when they were kids as Bakugo did the the same when it came to Izuku's nickname.

"Now that you guys have chosen your hero names, go out there and make us proud."

A couple of days later people were in the stands cheering as Present Mic announced the opening of the sports festival. One at a time the students entered the arena.

"Now before we begin, we are going to hear from the student whom entered the hero course with the highest marks ever seen. Please welcome to the stage, Izuku Midoriya." Izuku walked up taking the stage.

"Thank you Midnight. Today is meant to showcase our talents and powers. In the end there may be only three winners but I want you all to give it your all regardless. Don't think that you aren't all winners, in the end there is no winners or losers, only heroes!" Everyone cheered and clapped as Izuku left the podium as Midnight took the stand. A large flat screen television stood off to her side.

"All right lets begin with this years first event which will be..." the board begin to flash through some images until it landed on an image and word. "It's going to be an obstacle course." Midnight explained the rules for the obstacle course as the students would have to race through various obstacles to reach the finish line. Only thirty-six students would advance to the next round. The students lined up in front of a tunnel ready to begin.

"Ready... Set... Go!" Present Mic announced. The students rushed into the tunnel as it became grid locked. Some used their quirks to escape the grid lock as they found themselves face to face with one and two pointer robots from the entrance exams. Izuku used his claws and acid to dig underneath the grid lock coming up behind the robots. Suddenly he felt a cold chill blowing behind him. Izuku tried to fight the urge to fall asleep but failed as he curled up falling asleep. Todoroki passes by him not bothering to help out thaw out Izuku. Several others students passed by Izuku as only Bakugo helped thaw out his friend knowing that Izuku wanted to show what he was capable of as he couldn't allow Izuku to fail in this challenge.

"Thanks Kacchan."

"Let's go Deku. Don't fall behind!" Bakugo yelled out as he blasted forward. Izuku transformed into his slithering snake mode as he followed quickly behind. After defeating the one and two point robots soon the students found themselves face to face with the zero pointer. Shoto instantly froze the zero pointers off center causing them to fall on top of two students. It was Kirishima and a student from class 1B, Tetsutetsu. Both of their quirks were very similar as they used it to break from from the fallen robot. Others had used their quirks to get past the zero pointers without battling them.

Once passed the zero pointers, the students came upon a large chasm with stone pillars in the center. Ropes connected to each pillar as students had to use the ropes to get across. One student from the support class used her gadgets to get across while others used their quirks. Izuku stayed in slithering snake mode as he wrapped his lower body around the rope. He used his hands to help push him forward. Because Izuku chose to remain in snake mode, he managed to get pass the front runner which was Shoto Todoroki until he came across a mine field. He stopped to see a student whom stepped on a mine only to get blasted away from the course. That is when Izuku heard a small voice from beneath him.

"Again...? Perhaps I should move my den and young." hissed the voice. Izuku looked down to see a small snake slithering across seamlessly avoiding the mines. Izuku knew that he had the ability to speak with snakes and control snakes but he never used the ability much. A smile stretched across Izuku's face as he had an idea of how to get across without setting off any of the bombs.

"Excuse me... perhaps I could help move your den and young." he hissed at the snake. The snake stopped, looking back at Izuku in shock. Never before has it seen a human whom looked like a snake and able to speak their tongue. The snake knew that it would have to make several trips to move its eggs to make certain that it's young survive.

"You would do that for me?" asked the snake.

"Yes. I will safely move your den but in return, you have to guide me across." stated Izuku.

"I could do that." replied the snake. The snake slithered up Izuku wrapping around his neck like a necklace. With its tail, it directed Izuku to its den.

Izuku picked up the young carefully cradling it against his body. That's when he could feel Shoto's ice and hear Katsuki's explosions. Both passed by Izuku racing against each other for first place. That is when a wild idea came to Izuku.

"Do you know where all the bombs are buried?" he asked the snake.

"Yes... Why?!"

"I have an idea on how I can win this event. Do you trust me?" The snake looked at Izuku in confusion but it's instincts where telling it that it could trust Izuku.

"I trust you." replied the snake. This caused Izuku to smile as he began to dig up the bombs into one spot with the snakes help. Once gathered together, Izuku allowed his iron skin to manifest covering his whole entire body.

"Hold on tight." Izuku hissed as he felt the snake tighten around his neck. Izuku set off the bombs by wrapping his body into a ball. The ball propelled forward high above the group of students surprising a lot of them. Bakugo couldn't help but to smile and laugh at Izuku's idea.

"Damn it Deku! You're not going to beat me!" yelled out Katsuki as he let loose the largest explosion he could muster propelling himself forward pass Shoto. The sudden blast from both Katsuki and Izuku caught Todoroki off guard as he laid down as much ice as possible to catch up with the two. Izuku landed as he continued to roll while still wrapped up like a ball until he reached the main stadium as all the citizens looked confused about what had just rolled in. Izuku allowed himself to roll to a stop as he slowly unraveled himself revealing that he had just won first place in the obstacle course.

"It's class 1A's own Izuku Midoriya whom takes and win first place in the obstacle course." announced Present Mic. Soon other students came running in as the next one whom secured second place was Katsuki Bakugo whom ran up towards Izuku ruffling his green locks after he transformed back to his normal human form allowing the iron skin to vanish and dissipate.

"Damn it Deku... who knew that you could be so wreckless."

"Sorry it was a wild idea as I wanted to win and knew that it was a risk willing to take. Hold on while I quickly go take care of something." Izuku stated as he rushed out of the stadium looking for a safe place to put the snake and its young. Izuku went over to a nearby tree that that sat in the middle of UA grounds as he dug out a new den for the snake using his claws. He dug out a spot near the base of the tree as it offered the best place where the snake could raise its young. "There you are. I hope that I didn't startle you too much back there. It seems that all of your young are still safe and sound."

"Thank you so much for your help back there. I look forward to seeing you again. If you ever need my help again, you know were to find me." the snake stated before it slithered into the den that Izuku created as he carefully gave the snake its eggs to put into the den.
