Just some clarification. I have taken the characters from after the Starks got their direwolves but before Robert arrives in Winterfell. And yes Jon Arryn is already dead.
Just like for the past months I have woken up in the dark. I am here chained and bound alongside my pale and golden brother and he is as angry as I am.
How could our mother do this to us? To lock us away in here in the dark and refuse us to fly and hunt in the air where we belong.
"Are those dragons?!" "But that's impossible!" "There are no more dragons!" "They were all killed ages ago!" "This has to be some sort of trickery!"
The lords in the room were all shouting at each other trying to figure out what to do with the knowledge that dragons might return to Westeros. The children were both fascinated and scared of the prospect of dragons returning. The stories they were told were enough to make them aware that while dragons were majestic beasts they could also be used to cause destruction and death to those who opposed their masters.
Robert was… scared, to be honest. Defeating Rhaegar and the Mad King was simple because they did not have dragons. If this future is to be true then that meant either Viserys or Daenerys Targaryen had hatched dragons and were coming to take back the Iron Throne.
He briefly overheard his wife and her father Tywin giving orders to the lords of the Westerlands to build as many scorpions as they could once they got out of here. Tywin would be damned if those Targaryens came back after he finally made his daughter the queen.
All the other lords were also making plans to build scorpions once they got out of here. The lords of the Crownlands and The Narrow Sea on the other hand were in agreement to support the Targaryen who could control these dragons once he arrived in Westeros.
Robert was wary of the lords of the Crownlands. He knew those cunts would support the damn dragonspawn if they ever came back, especially if they had dragons with them. And he didn't trust those Dornish snakes either. Was this what the mad king saw? Enemies and traitors at every corner? The only person Robert could truly trust was Ned. He knew his best friend would never sell him out to the Targaryens and would fight with him to the bitter end.
Jaime's hands were shaking. He very often had nightmares about the death of the royal family and how his father presented their mutilated bodies to Robert as if they were some sort of gift or trophy. Maybe this new Targaryen would be a chance to redeem himself for failing Rhaegar and his family. And hopefully, it wouldn't be a repeat of Aerys Targaryen because as deranged as he was at least he did not have dragons. Jaime shuddered at that thought. Thank the seven the mad king did not have a dragon.
Jon felt weird. He did not feel any fear of seeing dragons. In fact, it fascinated him, he read a lot of books in Winterfell's library about the Targaryens and their dragons, but it was nothing compared to actually seeing one with his own two eyes. It was almost as if he was being drawn to the dragons, especially the emerald green one. He couldn't explain it, it was the same feeling he had with ghost, but it felt… stronger, as if there was some deeper connection there.
Unlike my pale brother I am fortunate, for since I hatched, I have felt my rider even though he is far away from me, he is in a land filled with cold and snow. It is not usual for us to be able to connect with our riders from such a distance but mine is special. He is strong and powerful in magic and that is just as necessary for us to grow strong.
Ned and Howland glanced at each other. To their knowledge, only Targaryens could ride dragons and the only Targaryen in a land filled with cold and snow was Jon. Did this mean the dragon chose Jon as his rider?
If the dragon decides to find Jon it would be impossible to hide his true parentage. In all honesty, Howland was excited. He wanted Ned to eventually put Jon on the throne, but Ned has not done anything to accomplish that and Howland was losing faith that he ever would. Maybe now with Jon getting a dragon, he would finally start. Jon would certainly be a better king than Robert, not that it would be difficult to be better than him.
Olenna Tyrell was already plotting to make Margaery the queen. All they had to do was find out who this Targaryen was and start a betrothal contract right away. If this Targaryen really did have dragons it would be best to side with him and make her granddaughter the queen in the process.
Willas saw this and sighed. Of course, his grandmother would start trying to marry Margaery to this new Targaryen with dragons. She didn't even know this Targaryen was yet, no one did. His father, Mace Tyrell would obviously also try to marry her to the Targaryen since he also wanted his precious little flower to become the queen of the seven kingdoms.
Doran and Oberyn were getting more convinced that Rhaegar and Lyanna did indeed have a child and it might very well be the boy Ned Stark claimed as his bastard. After all, the North is a land filled with cold and snow and that's where the dragon knew its rider was waiting.
The time has come for us to break out of this infernal darkness and find my rider. My brother will follow me, this I know for our mother has betrayed us both and we will never follow her or our angry brother again.
"Who is this mother they keep talking about?" Benjen asked. He also noticed how the dragon said "angry brother" which implied there were not just two but rather three dragons. He could see that the other lords noticed that too as they were slightly paler than before. The fact this third dragon was apparently angry wasn't very reassuring either.
"It must be Daenerys Targaryen as she is the only female Targaryen left alive." Jorah Mormont said which earned him dirty looks, especially from Lord Stark. The lords still had no idea why this slaver had to be here with them. Then again they had no idea why the sellsword, Bronn was with them either. Lord Tyrion seems to have taken a liking to the sellsword though and could be seen sharing stories and jokes with Bronn.
He may be bigger than Viserion and I for now but the magic in the air where my rider is, is strong and in abundance. We will soon overtake him in size and strength.
Tyrion was watching and listening with rapt attention. He loved reading about dragons and now he had the chance to actually see one. Maybe in the future, he would get to meet a dragon up close? It would be dangerous that's for sure but it would definitely be worth the risk.
Viserion is looking at me. He knows it is now that we must act and leave this horrible place.
I open my mouth and breath fire on the chain that is holding my brother and it melts away. There is still the issue of the iron collar that is around his neck and there is still some part of the chain hanging from it but he is no longer bound to the wall. Then he returns the favor and I am free of the chain like him.
Barristan was already praying and hoping this Targaryen in the North would turn out to be more like Rhaegar than Aerys. If he turned out to be another mad king and actually had dragons with him then Westeros would be turned to ash. He would finish what Aerys started.
Tormund was thinking. If the Freefolk could somehow convince the crows and kneelers of the White Walkers existence they could use the dragons to help them fight of the dead. It was a long shot but it was worth a shot. It really was the only option they had left. Though given by the reactions of the kneelers in the room with him he was sure it would be almost impossible to convince them to fight together.
We face the wall to the northwest and we breath fire at the same time.
The wall crumbles down and I see sunlight for the first time in months or maybe even years and I roar in joy alongside Viserion. I take flight, it will be hard going at first but it will get easier soon. We have a long distance to cover and we have not flown in a long time, but we will find him and with him we shall grow strong.
Varys was confused and excited. Why would they go north if the only Targaryens left are in Essos? Were there any Targaryens he wasn't aware of in Westeros? He was interested in what type of person this northern Targaryen would be. Neither Viserys nor Daenerys were fit to be rulers of the seven kingdoms, but maybe this one would be.

The next chapter won't be the next part of the "Father of Dragons" story. I plan on showing the characters Hardhome first as it would make more sense to show them the real danger as soon as possible and hardhome is right before the events of "Father of Dragons" so it fits perfectly. After that, it's back to "Father of Dragons".
