Alright, to those saying that Fairyborne isn't exactly not into a darker theme, be prepared for what's to come. I am going to make this story darker, as well as edgier, to make it satisfying for you. I will not be holding back and there will be more presence of bloodshed and mutilation from now on. Well, at least I am going to try.
And I had already skipped these three bosses as they aren't really necessary for the progression to the story. Darkbeast Paarl, Blood-starved Beast, and Witch of Hemwick. I know they are important lore wise, but it will only take the chapter long. If you're complaining, I am still thinking of whether or not the Calice Dungeons should be its own story of part of this story.
On the sidenote, there will not be any shippings happening. I know you are all disappointed, but I think it'll hinder how dark Fairyborne will be.
This chapter will be short because I want to focus on my other stories while not putting this on hiatus.
Now then, onto the chapter.
Fairyborne Eighth Hunt: Hunter's Dream III
Wendy shifted her head and felt something leaning onto her as it was hard. Too hard to lie on. She immediately turned to her right side, and her left hand suddenly felt something challenging again. Giving it a few squeezes, it felt like she was leaning on a boulder. But that idea was shot down once she heard someone else sleeping beside her. Slowing opening her eyes, the Young Dragon Slayer realised that the Plain Doll was taking a nap, and her head was on the Doll's lap. Not only that, but the young girl looked at where her hand was to reveal that it was in one of the Doll's "breasts". If that was bad enough for her, she heard footsteps nearby. She slowly turns her head around to see Gideon approaching them, and he seems like he has a deadpan expression on his face despite the tattered hat and mouth mask he is wearing.
"Uh…" That was the only words she could utter due to the awkward situation she found herself in. She stood up and wiped herself clean. "Mr Gideon…?"
Her utterance caused the plain Doll to awaken. She immediately stood back up, not paying any attention to the fact that Wendy had squeezed one of her "breasts". Well, it doesn't seem like she cared at all. "Welcome home, Good Hunter. What is it that you desire?"
"I was just seeing how the kid was doing." He told her before shifting his attention to her. "How are you feeling now?"
Wendy yawned as she stretched before answering. "I'm alright now."
Good. That's what the Good Hunter wanted to hear. It was also perfect timing to tell her about the discoveries he made. "By the way, I've found something that would benefit both of us."
"Oh." She tilted her head. "And what is it?"
"You'll have to see for yourself within the workshop." He explained to her. This grabbed the Young Dragon Slayer's attention, and she saw Gideon walking the pathway to the workshop. Not wanting to take advantage of this opportunity, she followed suit.
-Scene Change-
Fires were heard being cracked within the fireplace as Gideon and Wendy were standing next to an altar. The Dragonslayer was curious as to what the Hunter had in stock. "What do have for this… alter, Mr Gideon?"
The Good Hunter fished something from his pocket before placing it on the table. "I do not know what it is, But I think it is related to the alter," he explained. Wendy looked at the object and discovered that it was a brand that took the shape of the Hunter's symbol.
She was about to ask what this meant when a familiar voice did it instead. "Ah. I see you have managed to get a hold of the Rune Workshop Tool?" Already, the two knew that Gehrman had somehow appeared behind their backs.
"You know about this, Mr Gehrman?" Wendy asked the veteran Hunter.
The elderly man nodded his head. "Indeed. This was the work of an old Hunter back in Byrgenwerth. She is said to be the only one who can hear utterings by the Unknowns and express them in these strange and bizarre markings. I assume You may have picked some along the way?"
Gideon nodded in confirmation and presented the marks he obtained alone. "I have. I didn't know what they were when I got my hands on them."
It seemed that caught the veteran Hunter with interest in mind. "Oh, is that so? Then perhaps you can use that for your other hunts. It will be better if you get the upper hand." His attention now shifted back to Wendy. "As for you, it'll be a great advantage to your survival, young one."
That was an excellent boost to have. The Dragon Slayer was baffled as she thought magic didn't exist here. But, by sensing the symbols Gideon presented, there is a hint of its existence. "That fairly seemed to be alright. How are we meant to use them?"
She heard the elderly man chuckle at her words. "Implant them in your brain, of course."
That sent a slight shiver down her spine. She didn't expect this statement. "Uh… what do… you…, mean by that?"
"He literally meant it by implanting the symbols onto your mind." Gideon Clarified to her.
There was silence within the workshop. The trio stared at one another in the eyes as if they were waiting for someone to say a word. It felt like time went by before the First Hunter opened his mouth. "Well, I'll let the both of you do your own thing. You have all night to hunt." With that said, he instantly vanished.
With his presence gone, Gideon and Wendy were alone in the workshop. The Young Dragon Slayer was still trying to process the idea of implanting strange symbols into her mind. It was a notion foreign to her, something she hadn't encountered in her world of magic and dragon slaying. With a hint of hesitation, she asked Gideon, "Is it safe? I mean, implanting symbols into my mind sounds... risky."
Gideon nodded in understanding. "It does sound unusual, I know. But things work differently where the line between reality and dreams is blurred. The Runes I had found are tied to the essence of the world here. Implanting them allows us to harness their power, even if we don't fully comprehend it."
Wendy furrowed her brow, still uncertain. "And you've done this before?"
Gideon sighed, his voice carrying a hint of weight. "Unfortunately, no. This is also my first time doing… such a thing."
The young dragon slayer looked down at the altar and wondered if this was a good idea. "So…" She murmured before looking directly at the other Hunter, who looked back at her as if he was waiting for an answer. "What do you think we should do?"
The decision was up to him. He was still determining if this was even a good thing to do. Wendy was just a kid and shouldn't have experienced this type of procedure at her current age. It was that problem that made him answer her. "If I have to be honest with you, I will not say it's not the right time yet."
The Young Dragon Slayer seemed to be comfortable with the answer she heard. But was still determining if it was the right call. "Are you sure?"
The Other Hunter nodded in assurance. "I'm sure."
Wendy let out a pleasant smile, relieved that she wouldn't have to do something that would affect her mind. That is for now, of course. Since that has been sorted out, there was another matter she had to bring. "Uh… Mr Gideon. There's something I want to ask."
Gideon hummed at her words. "Go ahead, ask."
Without thinking of what she wanted to say, she let it out. "Is there any way I can change weapons? I know this cleaver weapon is alright, but I do not want to get confused about which one is ours."
Now that she brought that up, Gideon realised they both had the same weaponry through the surrounding Grand Cathedral of Yharnam. His idea had already sprung, making him look at her. "Yeah. You can do that, kid. Just go through the box right and choose which one suits you." He pointed at the box on the left side of the entryway, causing her to look at where it was. "Go on. Choose which one you are going to pick? I'll be waiting outside."
-Scene change-
Wendy indeed took her time within the workshop. Gideon could hear the sounds of weapons moving about and was sure she had found one. "Good Hunter." He listened to the Doll speaking to him. He looked at the side to see her slowly approaching. "Are you and the Young Hunter going to resume your partaking? The night is long but won't last forever."
Gideon smiled at her, knowing what to say to her. "We will after the kid will find another weapon that'll suit her."
"Oh?" She tilted her head, realising why multiple sounds were heard in the workshop. "And what happens if she cannot choose?"
All she got was a sigh before he answered. "Then perhaps I'll be the—" He stopped upon hearing a pair of footsteps exiting out of the workshop. He and the Doll turned to see Wendy coming out with a new weapon in hand. Seeing this made him pleased with the weapon of choice she did. "Ah, I see you have decided to choose that."
Wendy smiled at him before looking at the weapon she held. By the looks of it, it does seem similar to the Saw Cleaver. But unlike that, the blade was straight rather than curved. She pressed a button before it transformed into a Spear. The young Dragon Slayer put a pleasant smile at the weaponry. "Yeah. It isn't similar to the one I was given before, but I may get used to it."
The Good Hunter and the Doll smiled at her compliment. Seeing Wendy slinging the weapon onto her back, she asked the latter for a request. "Miss, is it alright if I can change my hairstyle?"
The Doll tilted her head as she said that. "Yes, I certainly can, Young Hunter. What is it that you desire?"
The Young Dragon Slayer thought about that. Truth be told, she wanted it free flowed like before, but that would be impractical. That was when she decided to look over to the Doll. "How about one that can flow while having my hair tied up…. not as of now."
The Doll nodded at her request. "If that's what you wish."
Wendy looked over towards the other Hunter. "Should we get going then?"
Gideon momentarily remained silent for quite a bit before he nodded back at her. "Yes." The newest hunter may have momentarily rested, he knew that it would only get worse as they resumed their roles in the Night of the Hunt.
Hopefully, he will always be on the kid's side no matter what are the circumstances they face.
Apology if I haven't been updating this fanfiction story so far. Three months since I haven't updated this story and look at the state of it? It almost seems like that I have abandoned it as I was focusing on Dark Souls: Embers of Remnant, which has gained a lot of following lately. Luckily, I knew the stats of this story and decided to update it. Enough rambling let's get onto the story.
It seems like Wendy is getting a new hairstyle and a new weapon, which is ironic as this is considered for some to be a trait of character development. Speaking of which, she may have endured the hardship so far, but what is about to come… oh boy, she'll have to endure worse.
Anyway, it was nice doing an update. It feels like this story was about to go stale.
That and also, I have uploaded another Fairy Tail crossover with Red Dead Redemption Two called Wild West Dragon.
But that doesn't matter, just enjoy this chapter and I will see you all next time. Whenever it gets updated.
