How about that, Mrs. Adler taking up the place of taking little Jack out fishing. Quite an alternative, wouldn't you say? If not, then perhaps it could get much more…darker…deadly…vengeful.
Arthur Morgan seems to be on his way to Mount Hagen. There resides a relic of ancient power and history. One…that could possibly change Arthur's life…forever.
But for now…Why don't we enjoy Mrs. Adler, trying to be a mother…
-Chapter 6- The best inheritance a parent can give their children is a few minutes of their time each day
Sadie Adler and Jack were down near a large creek. Sadie pulled out her fishing rod as Jack brought out his.
"So Jack, you know how to cast a line?" Sadie said as they walked side by side.
"No, not really," Jack said quite bluntly and innocently. Sadie got a little laugh.
"That's alright, I can teach ya," Sadie said as they got near the shore of the creek.
Sadie then looked at Jack as he held his fishing rod.
"Alright, so first, you wanna get your bait out, I don't really have much of real bait, but we can always use cheese," Sadie said as she brought out some cheese.
"Cheese?" Jack asked, quite confused.
"Yeah, there's bigger bait if ya wanna catch some bigguns, but it's just small fry today," Sadie said as she hooked up some cheese to her hook. She handed Jack one as he looked.
"Okay," Jack said a little excited.
"Now, you wanna be careful not to poke your finger when puttin' your bait on, you wanna make sure your fingers are on the side instead of the top," Sadie said as she bent down and helped guide Jack with putting the cheese on his hook. He seemed to be doing pretty well without her.
"I got it!" Jack said excitingly actually able to get the cheese on his hook. Sadie couldn't help but smile.
"Good job Jack," Sadie said, she then stood up and faced the creek.
"So now what, Mrs. Adler?" Jack asked as he looked up at Sadie.
"Well, now we cast it. Casting ain't too difficult, depending how far you wanna throw it. But with your little muscles, I'd just cast whatcha can," Sadie said.
"Oh, okay," Jack said.
"So, to cast, you wanna hold the rode to your shoulders, like your greeting ready to throw something. Then after that, you cast it forward and the rod will do its job, sound simple enough?" Sadie said as she demonstrated how to hold the rode. Holding it near her right shoulder, as the line dangled down behind her. Jack followed her move, almost shadowing her.
"Yeah, I think I can do it," Jack said.
"Alright, follow my lead," Sadie said, she then cast out the line out into the creek, which was followed by Jack, who cast it out a little bit. Not as far as Sadie's but at least far enough in the water.
"Good job, Jack, look atchu, you're natural," Sadie said, this caused Jack to laugh.
"Hehe, Thanks Mrs. Adler," Jack said as he looked at the line.
"So…now what?" Jack asked.
"Well…now, we wait, something'll bite eventually. Fishing's a lot of waiting but once you get a bite, then the fun begins," Sadie said trying to keep Jack interested in the idea of Fishing.
"Oh, okay. When do you think a fish will bite?" Jack asked.
"Well, sometimes, if you bob the rod up and down, it'll get their attention a little quicker, lets them know there's food nearby," Sadie said.
"Oh, so, like this?" Jack said as he lightly bobbed the rod just slightly.
"Just like that," Sadie said with a little laugh. Suddenly, something took a bite out of her rod. There was a tug, then a pull.
"Woah looks like a got one," Sadie said as she tried to control the rod a little better. Jack also got a bite too. He let out a gasp of surprise.
"Mrs. Adler, I got one too!" Jack said excitingly.
"Wait, how do I pull him in?" Jack asked as the fish pulled on his rod, pulling him forward just a little.
"Hold your ground, Jack. When he starts gettin' tired and stops pulling, start reeling him in, try to keep control while doing that too," Sadie said as her fish gave up a fight. Even though Sadie was hardly putting in any effort to hold him.
"Okay," Jack said as he pulled back the rod tightly. The fish seemed to be getting tired, but so was Jack. Sadie sort of chuckled to herself. Seeing a little boy do this was a sight to see. She had wanted one to call her own with Jake…but…no she couldn't think about him…not right now. Not in front of Jack.
Sadie's fish stopped struggling. She then started to reel him in quickly. It felt like a small bluegill. A very small fry. Jack's also stopped struggling, he too started to reel the little fish in.
Sadie could now see her fish, she guessed as much, it was a bluegill. A small one. Probably 2 pounds and 1 ounce. The fish got close as Sadie grabbed the line and pulled it out of the water. The Bluegill danged around. Sadie then gently removed the hook from its jaw and held it in her bare hand. She examined it closely.
Jack was finally able to pull his in too. His was slightly bigger than Sadie's, just by a few ounces.
"Mrs. Adler, I caught a fish!" Jack said as he held the little bluegill in his hands.
"Good Job, Jack, yours looks bigger than mine," Sadie said as she bent down.
"How do I get it off the hook?" Jack asked as he held the fish with his hand as it slightly squirmed a little.
"To unhook a fish, you wanna make sure you got a tight grip on him, then you wanna grab the hook, and gently try to remove it from his mouth, try to be gentle with it, else he'll squirm a little more," Sadie said as she held Jack's arms and guided him on how to free the fish. Jack did with a little bit of help from Sadie.
"There ya go, Jack," Sadie said, feeling proud of herself. Jack had a smile on his face as the little bluegill sat in his hands.
"Wow, thanks Mrs. Adler for taking me fishing," Jack said.
"You're welcome, Jack," Sadie said as she gently patted him on the head. Jack then threw the bluegill back in the water as it swam off. Sadie looked at hers. It could be good food…but…
"Ah, I'll let you off the hook little guy," Sadie said as she tossed the bluegill back in the water.
"I'm gonna go over to these flowers," Jack said as he put his fishing rod down and walked over to some red flowers.
"Well alright, Jack, I guess I'll fish a little bit more," Sadie said as she stood up straight and cast her line out. Waiting again.
"So, Jack, whaddya think about Fishing?" Sadie asked, curious to know if Jack had fun or now.
"Well, it's a lot of waiting…but, I had fun, Mrs. Adler," Jack said as he sat on the ground and was seemingly making something out of the flowers.
"I'm glad you had fun, Jack," Sadie said.
Sadie and Jack stayed by the creek for a half hour. Sadie caught and threw the fish back in, while Jack continued to make some things with the flowers. Sadie finally had enough of fishing and went to go see what Jack was making.
"Look, Mrs. Adler," Jack said as he showed a flower crown that he had hand-made.
"Whatcha got there, Jack?" Sadie asked as she bent down and took a closer look at what Jack had made.
"I made a necklace for momma," Jack said.
"Well, ain't that sweet of you," Sadie said with a smile.
"Oh yes, very sweet of the boy," A male voice was heard behind Sadie, catching her attention. She looked behind her and stood up.
"Good day, Madam," A man said as he dismounted his horse. They were both dressed quite fancy and professionally. There was another man with him, this one had a beard and a shotgun in his hand. The other was clean-shaven.
Sadie stood up and looked at the men with suspicion.
"Depends if the day stays good…" Sadie said. She then glanced at Jack, who was also starting to grow nervous.
"Jack, get behind me," Sadie whispered to him. Jack stood up and huddled behind Sadie.
"Agent Milton, this is my partner, Agent Ross. We are a part of the Pinkerton Detective Agency, word has it that you, Sadie Adler, have been traveling with a dangerous criminal, Does the name, Dutch Van Der Linde ring a bell?" Agent Milton asked as he walked forward toward Sadie.
Wait, how would they know about that?! How would they even know about her?! Let alone she was traveling with Dutch Van Der Linde.
"What makes you say that?" Sadie said, trying not to show weakness, she felt for her Schofield Revolver. But Ross quickly noticed as he pointed Lever Action Shotgun at her. Causing her to freeze.
"What do you want?" Sadie asked, slowly moving her hand away from her belt.
"We want Dutch Van Der Linde, we know you've been traveling with him, Mrs. Adler…or is Ms. Adler now…heard you became a widow after Jake Adler ran into…complications," Agent Milton said the word "complications" far too suspicious.
"What do you mean, Complications? He was murdered by damn O'Driscolls…I would be more worried about them than Dutch Van Der Linde," Sadie said with a fierce tone. She noticed some more horses pulling up…wearing black dusters…Wait…Fucking O'Driscolls!?
The Horses rode up and at least four O'Driscolls on them.
"Colm O'Driscoll is an informant of ours, He has been of great assistance to the Pinkerton Detective Agency, as long as he gets paid, he keeps in line," Agent Milton said. Sadie looked around, now she was clearly outnumbered. Six to one. Not to mention Jack was here too. Damn it!
"You work with a cold-blooded murderer just to get information…Do you know, the things he'd done to me?!" Sadie said in a growling accent.
"Oh we were quite aware of Colm's interrogations, Agent Ross and I gave him the orders to do so," Agent Milton said. Sadie's eyes widened, her fists started tightening, and her hand was on her belt behind her.
"What?" Sadie said with a hint of venom and anger. Agent Milton simply smiled. And chuckled under his breath.
"You see, Ms. Adler…You're deceased Husband owed us for expenses," Agent Milton said. Jack was getting more scared, he huddled closer to Sadie.
"What, Expenses?" Sadie said, her tone growing more angered and growling.
"The expenses of your land, your house, and give away money, lots of money…And when he refused payment back to Agent Ross and I…we gave the order to our dear O'Driscoll friends here, to threaten him, make him talk where he had his stash…but he wouldn't say…so, Tom O'Driscoll finished it…Then we asked Colm O'Driscoll to…interrogate his, helpless, mourned Wife of his, but, he didn't kill you, despite us wanting you dead to prevent loose ends. So, in other words, Ms. Adler…Our O'Driscoll friends…Are here to finish what they started," Agent Milton said with a chuckle after he finished speaking. Sadie gritted her, her blood started boiling, and her eyes grew with heavy fire.
"You…bastards! You Sons of Bitches! You best kill me now, Milton and Ross…because if you don't…I will find you…and I will kill you! I promise you that!" Sadie shouted with rage. Agent Milton and Ross chuckled.
"Thank you for the advice, Ms. Adler, But we'll let the O'Driscolls handle you and uh, Arthur Morgan," Agent Milton said as Ross kept his shotgun trained on Sadie.
"What do you know about him?!" Sadie said.
"Oh, we sent the man who killed your husband after Arthur Morgan, who's currently en route to Mount Hagen to collect an item. Supposedly, He'll make 10,000 dollars off of it. But those expenses will go to the O'Driscolls, once Arthur Morgan's dead…and what follows after that…5,000 more dollars added to the roster," Agent Milton said.
Sadie gritted her teeth.
"I will kill you, Agent Milton. I promise you that!" Sadie shouted in a growling and enraged tone. Agent Milton merely chuckled once more.
"Good luck, Ms. Adler, I look forward to seeing your head on a pike," Agent Milton said as he mounted his horse along with Ross. The four O'Driscolls had their Revolvers aimed at Sadie. Jack was ever more terrified.
"Good day, Ms. Adler. Boys, take care of this trash, and take the boy," Agent Milton said as he and Ross rode off.
"Jack, when I pull out my gun, I want you to take cover behind that rock behind us," Sadie whispered to Jack, keeping her eyes on the O'Driscolls in front of her.
"Mrs. Adler, I'm scared…" Jack said as he was about to cry. Sadie kept her eyes forward. She started breathing a little heavily.
"Me too, Jack…me too," Sadie said as she got in a stance. Jack getting ready to run behind the small rock behind him.
Sadie then took deep breaths in and out. Her right hand twitched, hovering above her Schofield Revolver.
She grabbed the Schofield Revolver…And shot it…
The fight…was on…
