A/N: Day 2 is upon us! I will keep it short, I said most in the first chapter of this wedding marathon...
Thanks for all the comments last chapter, it's wonderful to read your thoughts and responses!
The door opening caused Ginny to jolt awake immediately. She relaxed as she spotted Neville entering. She fell back onto the pillow.
"Good morning, Queen Ginny," he greeted her.
She grunted in reply.
"How are you feeling this morning?"
She sat up and suppressed a yawn. "How are you this awake already?"
"I didn't drink," Neville told her, smiling softly.
"That's actually sad. You should be drinking," she told him.
He shook his head. "I am working."
She frowned at him and let out a long breath. "Saturday, you must drink. Sunday you are basically off-duty."
He grimaced. "Not really. I have to make sure you make it to your room okay. Marriage must be consummated and all."
Ginny glared at him. "Trust me, it will be consummated. Don't worry about that." She stepped out of bed.
"I'll think about it," he said. Then he continued. "The drinking, not the..."
She reached for her dagger under her pillow. "I got that, thanks." She shook her head. "It's bad enough the whole castle knows you're having sex." She frowned. "The whole Kingdom really."
"Actually, the whole continent."
Her head snapped up. "Thank you. Neville."
He smiled and her face broke out into a smile too.
"Breakfast is served in half an hour," he said. "Can I send the servants in now?"
She nodded. "Yes, fine."
Harry watched in amusement as the guards quietly discussed who was taking Knight Gwyn's spot during breakfast. They seemed to want to take full advantage of his absence.
"Have none of them put together that Gwyn and Ginny are never in the same room together?" Fred wondered.
Harry shook his head. "Not yet. And Alastor knows, he keeps throwing them off her scent."
Justin took Gwyn's spot and Terry trod off to the other side of the room.
"Good morning."
Harry startled as Ginny spoke into his ear. He looked up in surprise. "How do you still manage to sneak up on me like this?"
She shrugged and walked around to take the seat beside him with a smile. "I don't have a clue, walking silently in this dress is a challenge."
He leaned towards and kissed her cheek. "Morning."
Ginny leaned into him to kiss him on the lips, but George cleared his throat loudly. She leaned away.
"There is hardly anyone here right now," Ginny argued.
Harry nodded. "And we don't have any scheduled kissing today."
"Not in front of my breakfast." George pointed down at his plate.
"Fine," Ginny agreed. She reached for the water, but Harry reached it first. He poured it for her, and she watched quietly as he did it.
"If you are going to look at him like that, I much prefer you just kiss him," George told them.
She laughed and looked over at her brother. "I am perfectly capable of doing both, one doesn't cancel out the other." She pointed further down the table. "Bread please."
Ron grabbed a bread roll and threw it at her.
She caught it easily. "Thanks."
Bill looked up in surprise and turned to Ron. "No. We don't throw food!"
Harry leaned towards Ginny. "This is probably not a good moment to bring up your grape-toss abilities, right?"
She grinned and shook her head. "Probably not," she agreed.
They neared the temple, both on their horses. Red and Lightning dutifully walked next to each other.
"I am surprised you got onto Red without help while wearing that dress," Harry commented.
"It is my workout for today," Ginny said with a smile. "This thing weighs more than my armour."
"And you look equally as pretty," Harry responded with a fond smile.
Ginny looked down at herself and then back at him. "I mean..."
"It is Rekione's day. Why would I lie?" Harry said. "The first time I saw your face, you were wearing your armour. It's a fond memory."
"I just thought you'd prefer this," she admitted, pointing at her dress.
He leaned a little closer. "I prefer you in your nightshirt but that's beside the point," he said quietly.
She gasped and looked a little scandalised.
He smiled at her. "It doesn't bother me if it doesn't bother you," he repeated her words. He shook his head. "Well, it doesn't bother me."
"Do you want to know what my favourite of yours is?" she asked now, also keeping her voice down.
He nodded.
"It doesn't involve a shirt," she told him teasingly. "I am not particular about the trousers."
He pretended to be shocked. "And I have been wearing a shirt most of the time! It will have to be amended."
She winked at him. "I am sure you can make it up to me."
"I promise," he said, linking his pinkie with hers for a moment.
They stopped in front of the temple and got off their horses. Her brothers followed quickly. Harry took her hand and together they walked into the temple. While there were still many people in the temple, it wasn't as full as yesterday. The ceremony of Gydus was the most important after all.
They walked to the front until they were standing across from Tassia. She smiled at them before she started the ceremony.
"Rekione is the God of Honesty. A good virtue in a marriage. If we can be honest with ourselves and our loved ones, it creates a strong bond of respect and trust. Please touch your hands to your heart and close your eyes and take a moment to consider your secrets and regrets and confess them to Rekione in silence."
Harry let go of Ginny's hand and put both his hands over his heart and thought about it for a moment. The first few were easy. I am marrying my Knight. That one made him smile. I am worried about the upcoming battle. I have probably kissed her more already than I should have. Then he dug a little deeper. I miss my parents every day. I feel like I have failed in my duty for not realising my advisor was a traitor. I owe Hagrid my life and I can never repay him. He breathed in deeply. I have felt alone for a really long time... I don't anymore.
"When you are ready," Tassia said softly. "Please open your eyes again."
He opened his eyes carefully and looked over at Ginny. He reached out to her instinctively and she grasped his hand quickly. He squeezed it, both for her own comfort and his as well.
Tassia turned to the altar and touched Rekione's symbol, a peacock, before turning around. She held out her hands for them to take.
"Do you promise to be honest, both to each other in marriage and in the treatment of your subjects?"
"Yes, I do," he said.
"Yes, I do," Ginny said too.
She let go of their hands and took up the symbol. Just as yesterday she carried it to the altar, and they followed. She placed it and gave a deep bow. The rest of them bowed too.
Tassia joined their hands together again. "Rekione gives you his blessing. And remember, any lies told during Rekione's Reverie can become very dangerous."
They nodded to Tassia.
With that, another ceremony was completed.
Ginny's eyebrows raised curiously when they arrived at the castle. A peacock and a peahen sat at the entrance. She didn't remember discussing that. She hopped off Red with some difficulty and walked towards the peacocks quietly, Harry beside her.
"Do you think Hagrid arranged that?" she asked as she observed the birds.
Harry shrugged. "Maybe it was a surprise."
They managed to get so close that they could even pet the birds. Ginny kneeled carefully and her fingers gently graced the beautiful wings of the birds. "Hi, little friends," Ginny cooed.
Harry reached out to them too. Her brothers waited at a distance.
"Your love for animals really aligns well with the Kingdom," Harry said softly.
She smiled. "I am glad I am a good fit," she said. "I want to do well."
"You will," he told her. "You already have."
Red neared the birds and Ginny guided her.
"Gently, Red. Gently," she said.
Red bowed her head towards them and the peahen cocked her head in confusion at the horse. Lightning came up too, eager to find out what Red was doing. He didn't have a notion of how loud he was. His excited steps and huff startled the birds. They quickly took off and landed in a nearby tree.
Ginny stood back up and turned around to see Lightning looking rather confused.
"It's not your fault, Lightning. You were just a little loud. We can work on that, okay?" She leaned her head against the horse's. "Birds get spooked even easier than horses." She scratched behind his ear.
"We should get inside," Harry said.
Ginny looked over at the birds.
"I am sure they'll come back down soon," Harry told her.
The ballroom had couches and pillows to sit on, set up in pairs. It was time for Rekione's Reverie. They all settled down on a spot.
Neville stood up. "Please consider the number of royals and other important functions we have with us when you ask questions... And remember, no lying. Have fun."
Ginny faced Harry, waiting for him to ask the first question. Harry frowned and then smiled.
"Got it," he said. "What's your favourite animal ever?"
Ginny chuckled at the innocent question. "I love horses, I truly do. It's just that I adore cats."
He nodded. "That makes sense."
She thought about a question for him. "Did you ever cheat while studying?"
He glanced over at Hermione and shook his head. "No. 'Mione wouldn't let me. It was impossible to cheat otherwise."
They both rose from their seats to ask someone else a question. Romilda caught her eye and so she walked to her and sat down.
"Do you despise me?" she asked Romilda honestly.
Romilda shook her head. "I was just desperate for a good match... or my parents were. Now that you're marrying him, they have backed off a little." She sighed. "And people like Cormac..."
"Yes," Ginny said. "No need to explain. That's not a good match for you either." She smiled sympathetically at Romilda. "Your turn, ask me anything."
"When did you meet him?" she asked. "You already seemed acquainted during the masquerade ball."
Ginny blinked. She could not lie but she could not tell the whole truth. "A few months ago. He didn't know who I really was... by the time he figured it out, I already had feelings for him."
Romilda nodded. "I can see you love him; he deserves that."
"Thank you," Ginny said, surprised by her kindness.
It was time to switch again but there was some commotion around her oldest brother.
"Tell me more," Charlie insisted to Bill.
Bill shook his head. "You asked your question and I answered. I don't have to say any more."
Ginny sat down between her brothers. "What's going on?"
Charlie looked at her. "He said something about a girl and now refuses to elaborate." He shrugged. "I am just curious."
Ginny locked eyes with Bill. "You are going to have to confess. It is my wedding and you would not want to doom Rekione's blessing, do you?"
Bill turned red in both anger and embarrassment. Her brothers looked eagerly as Bill chewed on his words for a moment.
He looked to see if no one else was within earshot. "Alright. Fine! One of the leaders of the rebellion in Harpia is a wonderful young woman. She knows who I really am, and she is going to help us out once we get there." He sighed and looked down at his hands. "The truth of the matter is that I fancy her a lot."
Several brothers hummed in approval.
"How is this the first time we've heard about her?" George asked.
Bill looked up at Percy. "He knows her."
Percy's eyes widened in turn. "Fleur?!"
Bill nodded. "Yes."
"Of course. She is gorgeous; she is part Veela," he told their siblings. "I think she's out of your league."
"That's why I never made a move... I never told you. She's got plenty to choose from," Bill said, his shoulders sagging a bit. "And she is vital to the rebellion and that's most important right now."
"After we win... you have to try at least," Ginny told him.
His eyes narrowed. "My turn to ask a question."
Her brothers' eyes landed on her now.
"You can go ask your own questions." She attempted to wave them off. "You've had your answer."
They all shook their heads abruptly.
"Alright," she gave in. "Do your worst."
Bill pondered on it for a bit. Ginny had expected some question about Harry, but Bill hit her with a much older mystery that needed solving.
"Did you, or did you not paint a moustache on Aunt Muriel's painting?" Bill asked. "Because we all got punished for that, and I know for a fact I didn't do that."
Ginny's eyes widened and she bit her lip.
"Did you?" Ron asked.
Her face broke out in a grin. "Yes, that was me," she admitted after sixteen years.
Multiple brothers groaned in annoyance, but both Fred and George burst out laughing. Fred bumped his fist against hers.
"You were the only one who wasn't punished, because they said you couldn't reach it, not even with a chair!" Ron said, who had been just tall enough to paint the majestic moustache.
"I had help," she revealed then, entirely amused this had still been bugging them.
Charlie frowned. "Who?"
"Mabel... I climbed onto Mabel's back. I am sorry."
"The donkey?" Charlie let out. "Are you telling me that you managed to get a donkey inside, paint the moustache and then sneak out without being detected?"
She shrugged. "Perhaps I knew about a different prank taking place at the opposite side of the castle."
Fred gasped. "This is the worst betrayal."
"It was a long time ago," she tried.
"You are going to have your hands full with your own kids if they are anything like you," Percy commented.
She nodded. "I know. Harry mustn't find out, or he may change his mind about the number of kids he wants."
The Reverie continued and she changed partners a few times, receiving more questions from various Lords and Ladies. When it was time to wrap up, Neville stood up again.
"Thank you all for your honesty. If you have any last confessions, please tell them now. Food will be served soon."
Ginny got up and was about to make her way to Harry, when Bill grabbed onto her. She stopped and looked at him.
"I just want you to know..." He appeared pained even thinking about what he was going to say. "Sending you off to Regulus remains the hardest thing I have done."
Ginny wrapped her brother into a hug and squeezed tight. "I don't blame you for that." She released him. "I know that wasn't your choice. And it has brought us here."
Bill smiled softly and patted her cheek. "Thank you." He let go of her. "Go on," he said, with a nod towards Harry.
She smiled and stepped to Harry. She took both his hands in hers. "I love you."
Harry smiled widely. "I love you too." He stepped a little closer and they leaned their foreheads together.
"Alright, it's time! I am sure you are hungry after so much truth!" Neville's voice carried over the other voices.
They leaned away from each other and turned to listen.
Neville continued. "And while the Reverie is over, please remember that lying tonight would be bad luck for the happy couple... Just don't lie, in general, how about that?"
"Are you going to tell Harry?" George asked loudly when they had set down at the table.
She looked up, her eyes warning. "Shut up!"
Harry watched her curiously.
Fred smiled slyly. "I think keeping a secret on such an honest day would be a bad idea..."
She glared at her brothers and sighed before turning to Harry reluctantly. "Here is the thing..." she started.
"Careful, no lies..." Charlie warned her.
"I am trying," she said. She looked at Harry again. "As you know my mum was from Secretera before it was taken over by Rodolphus, back when it was called Septimera. When her two older brothers died, there was a dispute about who was meant to sit on the throne if they ever managed to recapture it."
Harry nodded.
"You would think it would be our mother, but dear Muriel thought differently. First, my mum was too young, then she was married to a King so evidently, she couldn't rule another country...She came up with anything." She frowned slightly as she spoke. "It is safe to say she was not well-liked. And she always insulted us... called us stupid. I was too short, too ugly and looked like a boy according to her."
"Like a boy?" Harry repeated in surprise.
She nodded. "There is irony in that one. After one particularly bad visit where she had told me as a girl I should remain indoors and learn to sit still and shut up, I decided to have my revenge."
Harry listened intently to her story. "What did you do?"
"I snuck our donkey Mabel into the corridor with her painting. I snatched some paint, crawled on top of that donkey, and gave her a majestic moustache," she admitted with a smile.
"I do have to congratulate you on managing to paint such a wonderful moustache while on top of a donkey... that takes skill," Charlie said.
She beamed at him and continued. "I snuck the donkey back out, put the paint back and that was that... All my brothers were punished for it because none of them admitted to doing it. They assumed I wasn't the culprit because I was simply not tall enough. They finally made me confess tonight."
Harry chuckled. "That's impressive." His brows furrowed. "Why were you hesitant about telling me?"
She absent-mindedly played with her fork. "I was concerned you were going to worry what kind of mischief our kids will get up to. That you would change your mind about how many you want."
To her surprise, Harry laughed. "I think we can handle a few moustaches," he told her. His hand came to cover hers. "You told me yourself before that you used to climb up the walls. Paint is nothing compared to that." He locked eyes with her. "If anything, I am more worried you are going to teach them to wield daggers before they can walk."
She grinned. "They have to be able to protect themselves."
Harry nodded silently, pretending to agree.
"We can start them with small daggers, they have to be able to hold it." She mimicked grabbing a dagger with her fist.
Ginny had been tucked against his side for the last half hour when Neville told them it was almost midnight. Ginny moved to sit up, but he tightened his arm around her.
"One more minute," he told her.
She smiled and cuddled closer again, pressing a kiss against his shoulder.
"Which one of my brothers will feel the need to walk me to my room tonight?" Ginny wondered out loud.
"Percy asked Ron to do it," he informed her.
Sure enough, a minute later Ron appeared in front of her. She sighed and sat up.
He pressed a kiss against her forehead. "Good night."
She smiled softly, kissing his cheek in turn. "Good night, my King."
She stood up and Harry watched as the pair of them left the room. When they were off, he rose from his seat too.
He passed by Neville on his way out. "All set for tomorrow? Dream paper prepared?"
Neville smiled. "Ron and I coordinated it. It's all good."
"I can't thank you enough," Harry told him.
Neville smiled shyly. "Trying my best. Good night."
"Good night."
Harry walked up the stairs and into his room. He quickly undressed, feeling much more tired than yesterday and crawled into bed.
