Have a little of Louisa's Catholic upbringing sprinkled into this tale. Dang this story is way too relatable to my life. Please let me know if you find two sexy Wizard's looking for their Witch. ;)
Anywhoooo enjoy a little All Saint's Day Magic!
Saturday, November 1, 1998
That afternoon, the entire Granger-Malfoy-Nott contingent found themselves seated in the pew of a Catholic Church. Neither Jean nor Richard were especially religious, but All Saints Day was one of Jean's favourite times to attend Mass.
Theo, Draco and Narcissa each sat next to one of the Grangers, and were encouraged to observe and listen. Theo and Draco of course had a running commentary on which of the Saints they thought were Wizards occurring through their mental link during the entire Litany of Saints.
"...St. Lawrence, pray for us.,," the congregation chanted.
"Oh he was roasted over hot coals," Theo said, "Mum loved him. He supposedly said 'I'm well done on this side. Turn me over!' Honestly, can you even imagine?"
Draco snorted. "No way is that true!"
"Look it up," Theo said smugly.
"...St. Sylvester, pray for us.,," the congregation chanted.
"Ah good old Slyvie," Theo chirped. "He was obsessed with religion. He was totally into the papal supremacy, got a ton of Witches and Wizards involved with the church. Can't beleive he made it all the way up to pope!"
Hermione groaned.
"...St. Anastasia, pray for us.,," the congregation chanted.
"Oh Anastasia was definitely a witch. The woman was literally known as the 'deliverer of potions!" Draco said. "She's well known in Potions circles as one of the original Potion's Mistresses. Got caught up with the Christans and was martyred."
"Will you two please shut up?" Hermione pleaded.
For a short while they were quiet until the congregation chanted. "...St. Francis, pray for us.,,"
"Oh Lord!" Draco laughed. "Good old Francis. He's like my mum's distant relative, his mum was Pica de Bourlemont. She was from Provence. He was quite the guy back before he joined the church. He wandered around with troubadours and generally lived it up, according to the family records anyway."
Hermione couldn't help but feel intrigued, which Draco quickly latched on to. "It's true! We have his whole illustrated life story at the Manor. His father was furious since he rescinded his birth right and essentially left everything to his siblings. Towards the end he barely did any Magic and used it almost exclusively to heal people."
"I'd be very interested to read that, so would my Mum," Hermione said.
"Finally caught her, right at the end," Theo chuckled. Hermione mentally rolled her eyes, but let them feel her pleased energy radiate through their bond.
Hermione grinned as Jean and Narcissa sat in the corner of the booth discussing the intricacies of the saints and where the overlap with the Wizarding world occurred. Draco and Richard were in a deep discussion about the implications of potions on the Muggle medical world and if there was a way to safely introduce more Magical cures to Muggles.
"You alright, love?" Theo asked quietly.
"Surprisingly, yes," she murmured. "It feels like everything is going so well, I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop."
"We can't look at it that way," Theo said, holding her hand under the table. "I know that we can do this and I know we're going to make it out of this. Look at our family, look at how well we all fit together."
Hermione did look. She watched the way Jean and Narcissa talked like they'd been best friends for years. She saw how Draco looked up to her father like he was the smartest man he'd ever met. She paid attention to the way that Richard constantly checked to make sure that everyone was comfortable. She heard the way Theo chimed into Narcissa and Jean's conversations, teasing them, and calling them Mum 1 and Mum 2, but never using the same number for either.
She felt the way Theo and Draco radiated their feelings for her through the bond. She noticed the way that Narcissa always made sure that both Hermione and Scorpius were comfortable. The way her parents just embraced more new people into their family like it was always that way. She felt Scorpius kick, hoping he could feel all the love at the table.
She loved her family and she would fight to the very end to keep them safe.
