"So todays the day," Arizona tried her best to smile but she was definitely terrified.
"Yeah it is," Amelia took in a deep breathe not knowing what else to do.
"Before they present i just want to say something. In the presence that i am gorked or i die. This tin goes to Sofia, and the pendant in my jewelry box. This envelope has my final wishes in it. And these are all address to you, and you will only read them if i die. I'll know if you've read them and i wake up,"Arizona instructed.
"I," Amelia started.
"Im not done, Maggie has been name my medical proxy, since she wont let feeling get in the way of science. And if i do die make sure Sofia doesn't mourn to hard, you know," Arizona tried her best not to get emotional but the thought of being without her baby was getting to her.
"Sofia and Callie will be well taken care off," Meredith reassured her.
"You finished," Amelia asked?
"I think so," Arizona sighed.
Richard stretched out his hand and Arizona took it today was going to be hard and she needed someone to lean on.
"Arizona Robbins, Age 38, tumor in the frontal lobe," Stephanie read aloud.
Arizona started to drift of into thought look at the faces of friends and associates in the room. Some people stood outside her door most of them she never talk to but they still showed up. Because that's what grey Sloan did they showed up no matter what it was. But even though they showed up Arizona still felt alone. The only reason they showed up was because it's the right thing to do. It to show moral support even though they're not really there. I mean who's going to take care of her after the surgery. Who's going to help her with daily chores, who's going to check in on her during the day. Last time Arizona was injured Callie did all of that now Callie's gone. And she's got no one to care anymore.
"Stop," Arizoma shouted.
"Are you okay," Amelia wondered walking close.
"I just need to know I have someone to help me after the surgery," Arizona started to cry.
"Of course I was going to ask if I could sleep on your couch just to keep an eye on you after your surgery, since you made me your medical proxy and all," Maggie spoke up.
"Okay," Arizona wiped her tears.
"You ready to get this show on the road, wow I cant believe I just said that," Amelia whispered the last part.
"I'm ready," Arizona pushed down her fears and smiled.
As they rolled her down the hall Arizona thought of all the go things that came from this hospital. She meet Callie because of this hospital, and that the best thing in the world. Her baby lived because of the staff in this hospital including herself. But it also carried some bad memories like finding out she has a tumor. Or finding out nicks tumor is inoperable, or Mark dying in this hospital. Of a while the hospital was called Seattle Grace Mercy Death and the name was fitting.
"You aren't psyching yourself out are you," Amelia asked once they got into the O.R.
"No I'm not," Arizona shook her head.
"Oh you wanna do the superhero pose and you don't know how to ask," Amelia assumed.
Since it was being offered she wasn't going to deny the chance," Well can I?"
"Of course," Amelia smiled.
"Oh it really does help," Arizona mumbled.
"See," Amelia agreed.
"Alright," Arizona climbed back on the table. "Im ready," Arizona smiled
"Alright count down from ten," The anesthesiologist instructed.
"Ten, nine , eight, sev
"Meredith whats going on with Arizona," Callie answered the phone.
"What do you mean," Meredith asked sitting in the O.R. gallery.
"She called last night and said she couldnt come to New York but never gave a reason why and this morning she wouldn't return my calls," Callie groaned.
"I dont know," Meredith took the phone off speaker and left the gallery.
"Yes you do know," Callie shouted.
"I dont," Meredith started to get cross with her.
"Look I had to break my little girls heart last night. She asked me does mommy still love me last night. Now I dont know whats going on but what I do know is something isnt right," Callie started to cry.
"I can't violate hippa," Meredith sighed hating to hear her close friend cry.
"What," Callie wondered what she meant as she wiped her tears.
"If i told you what happened id violate hippa," Meredith said again.
"So its medical," Callie realized what Meredith was trying to point out.
"I cant tell you what it is id violate hippa," Meredith repeated.
"Got it im going to be on the next plane in," Callie replied finally getting it.
"Maybe dont bring Sofia," Meredith suggested.
"So its bad," Callie asked?
"I can't say," Meredith mentioned.
"Thanks Mer," Callie sighed.
"It's been a whole day" Meredith pointed out
"I know," Amelia groaned.
"Do you think she's going to wake," April asked?
"She made me her medical proctor. She said I didn't know her well enough to let emotions make the decisions," Maggie added.
"Of course she going to wake up I mean ive dealt with tumors bigger than that," Amelia grumbled at how little their faith in was.
"But those people probably didn't get into a car wreck right before they got there tumor token out," Meredith mentioned.
"I don't think we should be talking about this over lunch," April pushed away her salad.
"You're right how are you holding up April, I mean she's your best friend and it's only your first day back," Meredith asked?
"I think you should be asking Amelia how she's doing," April pointed out.
"What if I gorked her I mean I should've just called Tom he would've came. I just wanted a once in a life time tumor and now I gorked it," Amelia whined as she put her head down on the table.
"Hey you didn't gork her okay you did amazing because you're an amazing surgeon." Meredith
"Im an addict. Not only am I a pill head, but I'm also a surgical addict. I should've saw that it was too much for me and called in back up," Amelia sighed.
"You're in recovery you will have your ups and your downs and thats okay as long as you know when you need help," Meredith teased.
"Shut up," Amelia laughed. "I should be asking you how your holding up I mean the circumstances are eerily similar," Amelia mentioned.
"He was your brother too," Meredith pointed out.
"I know," Amelia smiled.
"Dr. Robbins is a wake," Stephanie ran over.
"Hello Arizona, we've missed you," Amelia joked.
"Why does it feel like someone beat me in the head with a brick," Arizona said.
"Why isn't she talking," Meredith turned to Amelia.
"Um I mean she did just have brain surgery let her rest," Amelia retorted.
"What do you mean not talking, I'm clearly talking," Arizona sighed.
"I might have nicked wernickes area when I was trying to cut the tumor from the front of the temporal lobe," Amelia smiled nervously.
"What," April asked?
"But if I did it should fix itself in a few days," Amelia mentioned .
"Well it better," Meredith added.
"Please start talking," Amelia whispered.
"I'm trying," Arizona thought to herself.
"Callie what's are you doing here," Meredith walked up to Callie at the front desk.
"I told you i was coming," Callie smiled.
"I didnt think this fast, I thought you'd have to get Sofia situated. She isn't here is she," Meredith started to look around.
"No she's with my father. He let me use his jet to flight here,"Callie mentioned.
"Callie what are you doing here," April walked over to them.
"Im here to see Arizona," Callie told her.
"You told her about tumor?"April questioned Meredith, hit her arm,
"No that would violate hippa. I told her I couldn't tell her anything cuz it would be a hippa violation. And she drew some type of conclusion fron that," Meredith explained.
"Tumor," Callie said out loud.
"Look what you did," Meredith whisper yelled.
"Sorry," April gave a nervous smile.
"April doesn't know what shes talking about," Meredith tried to
"Yes she does shes one of Arizona best friends," Callie started to get panicky.
"Callie just calm down," Meredith tried to get the women in from of her to breath.
"Is it cancer," Callie wondered, panicking even more.
"No, just calm down. Why dont we sit the waiting room and we can talk about it," Meredith suggested grabbing Callie's hands.
"No i want to see Arizona," Callie pulled away.
"I dont think thats a good idea," Meredith sighed.
"Either you tell me what room shes in or ill search every floor," Callie started to get mad.
Meredith stood there with her mouth open looking between April and Callie.
"Alright fine let do it my way," Callie took off.
"Don't run Callie this is still a hospital," Meredith shouted.
"I own a percentage of this hospital i can run where ever i want to," Callie shouted back pushing to button to the elevator.
"She on the neuro floor," Meredith sighed not wanting her to disrupt the whole hospital.
"Thank you."
"Hey Dr. Robbins," Jo mumbled.
"Robbins how you feeling," Amelia strides in.
"Horrible," Arizona wants to say.
"Well it's time do the early ambulation protocol," Amelia said.
"Today we are just moving you to the chair, you know studies say that movement within the first few hours of awareness afte surgery especially brain surgery helps with recovery time," Dr. Edwards starts to ramble.
"You don't have to be in here for this Edwards. Dr. Wilson and I can handle this," Amelia looked at the resident.
"No I'm good," Edwards smiled.
"In that case you get on her good side I got her bad side," Amelia instructed. "We're just taking you to the chair," Amelia spoke. "Wilson bring the chair a bit closer, on my count Edwards 1.. 2 ... 3."
"AHH," Arizona screamed out in pain.
"I thought her pain meds where adjusted,"Dr. Wilson spoke.
"They where lowered for this," Amelia explained. "It's only going to hurt for a bit but then you'll go back to bed so come on," Amelia said as they started to move her off the bed.
"Owww," Arizona cried. "Adjust the pain meds please," Arizona thought to herself.
"What the hell are you doing," Callie almost screamed.
"Callie?"
"I don't think it's visitation hours," Dr. Wilson looked down.
"Put my wife down," Callie yelled ignoring Wilson.
"Yes please put me down, wait did she just call me her wife."
"Ex-wife, and this is to help her," Amelia pointed out.
"She is still the mother of my child and I said put her down," Callie moved closer into the room.
"It's-" Dr. Edwards started.
"I don't care what it is she's screaming in pain," Callie yelled.
"Hey maybe stop yelling in the icu, and listen," Amelia tried her best to stay professional when Callie was blowing her lid.
"All this yelling is making my pain worse."
"Aww," Arizona groaned in pain.
"Look she's crying in pain any you aren't even moving her," Callie pointed out.
"Maybe it's has something to do with your yelling," Amelia mentioned.
"Sorry Cal she's kind of right."
"I don't care what kind of protocol you have you're not doing it on her," Callie spat out.
"I'm sorry Amelia I tried to stop her," Meredith
"You knew about this," Callie turned around.
"Yes it's the new protocol and it's very effective normally, the family of the patient steps out when this is happening," Meredith tried to explain.
"I don't care put her back in the bed now," Callie stomped.
"You're not her medical proxy anymore which means I don't listen to you," Amelia pointed out.
"Put her back now," Callie screamed.
"Again with the yelling you don't have to do it all the time."
"I'm going to have to call security if you don't leave," Amelia said calmly.
"Fine but I'm coming back up after words," Callie groaned.
"I wouldn't expect anything else," Amelia said, in a sarcastic tone.
"Alright Arizona we killed one tumor and we killed this one too, we can do this," Amelia tried to give her a pep talk.
"Well technically you left Herman blind and we didn't kill it because -
"Ahh," Arizona cried as they went to move her again.
"You got this Robbins it's just a few steps," Dr. Edwards encouraged.
"ohh," Arizona breathed in pain.
"You got this Arizona it's just one more step," Amelia whispered.
"You know you really reacted like a wife and not a doctor because a doctor would've seen the importance of the protocol. But a wife would only see the pain," Meredith pointed out.
"No I reacted like a friend," Callie rejected what ever Meredith thought.
"Didnt you tell me you're still in love with her like a day ago," Meredith wondered what she was thinking.
"Well yeah but she doesn't need a lover right now she needs a friend so I'm going to be a friend," Callie replied.
" a friend that overreacts like a wife," Meredith commented.
"It was board line torture," Callies voice raised an octave as she tried to defend her reaction.
"No it was Early Ambulation Protocol which they do at NYU medical so I know you're familiar with the idea," Meredith spoke.
"Yeah and Lanley shut it down because the study was not conclusive enough and they didn't want to risk a law suit," Callie remarked.
"What is she doing in here this is for attending only," Bailey asked?
"And what are you doing in here," Callie sat up and asked?
"What," Bailey stuck her neck out.
"Sorry it's was an accident," Callie mumbled.
"She saw Arizona receiving EAP, so I took her here to cool down," Meredith recapped leaving our how she almost took out Amelia.
"Why does she need to cool down here," Bailey questioned.
"She won't leave the hospital we're just waiting for them to be done," Meredith told her.
"Well I came in here to find Richard Webber," Bailey admitted.
"Oh he's with his wife eating lunch he should be back in a few," Meredith explained.
"Tell him I need him on a case," Bailey turned to leave the attending lounge.
"I can give you a consult im here and ready to work," Meredith pipped up.
"No offense but I need old I need the old way not the new way. You just as good as me I need someone who knows more, who been around the block more than twice," Bailey tried her best to explain this without hurting her feelings.
Meredith felt a vibrate from her phone in her lab coat.
"They're finished," Meredith read the text aloud. "Wait for,"
"Well you better follow her," Bailey looked at Meredith.
"Fine," Meredith sighed getting up.
A/N: I felt like this was a good place to end this chapter. Like most of my stories this will be pretty dialogue heavy I'm not really good at that inner monologue stuff so I try to stay away from it. And like I said this is a mini fic so I'm going to try and pump these chapters out while I'm feeling creative.
