Has a new twist.

The wind blew around him, buffeting his efforts as he tried to exit his house. His hair, while short, still flew to one side of his head. He narrowed his eyes in an attempt to see down the road, toward his school. When that failed, he instead looked the other way and saw an annoying girl enthusiastically bounding his way. Surprised, he opened his mouth to speak but was beaten to the punch by his neighbor.

"Heyyyyyyyyy! James! I caught you this time!"

He rolled his eyes but couldn't stop her contagious smile. "Sayori, why are you acting like a crazy person? You could have fallen in this wind."

She pressed the tips of her index fingers together, making a small tent. "Well, I just thought that we haven't been talking as much lately, so I wanted to fix that!"

Crap, he thought. She's right about that. We've been drifting apart lately, but I don't want to lose a friend.

"Wait," He exclaimed, "I've seen you in the halls plenty of times. We talked about that club of yours just yesterday!"

"Ehehehe~ Guess I just wanted to walk to school with you again, Jamie!"

He made a pained expression. "You know I hate that nickname, Sayori!" As she smiled, he suddenly started to grin. Striking a dramatic pose, he pointed at her and bellowed a regal laugh. She gasped dramatically as he wickedly proclaimed, "You're not making a very good case for me to walk with you, lady fool!"

"Whaaaaaat!? Lord James, I simply just wanted-"

"Aha," He exclaimed, "You just wanted to try and convince me to join your club? I've foiled your plans again, Lady Sayori!"

It's been a while since we did something stupid like this together, he thought. I forgot how much fun this was!

"Noooooooo!" She raised her arms as if struck by a fatal blow. "How could you? To your friend? You… meanie…" She fell to the ground, defeated.

"HAHAHAHA! Another fool vanquished by the mighty Lord James of Coolguyland!"

Sayori smiled brightly and sat up as he enjoyed his victory. He laughs again, and this time she can't help but join in.

"Aha, I don't remember you being so funny, Sayori!"

"Hey!"

He sticks his tongue out at her, and for just a moment, they're kids again.

Sayori stood up and dusted herself off, still smiling. James walked down the stairs to where she was and put his hands on his hips.

"Come on, Lady Sayori. You've made us both late already, make haste!"

She nodded and they both quickly jogged to school. Upon arriving, Sayori turned to James.

"Hey, you still have Mr. John's last period today right?"

James was stunned. "How'd you know that? Are you physic?" He lowered his voice to a whisper as shock spread across his face along with sudden realization. "Is that your power? Could you read my mind-" He's cut off as she quickly shook her head.

"No, silly! I saw you on Friday last week as I was heading to the literature club!"

James mentally sighed. Every time she brings up the club she tries to get me to join it, he thought. I think she said they're supposed to have cupcakes today.

"Speaking of the club, have you decided on whether or not you want to join? Natsuki's cupcakes are the best," she said in a sing-song voice.

Cupcakes, huh? James pondered for a moment if there was such a thing as cupcakes good enough to be worth spending an hour reading. Probably. I'm a sucker for sweets. *sigh*

"I did. I decided that I'd stop by today. But no promises on joining just yet!"

"Yayyyyyy!" Sayori happily jumped up and down. "I'm so glad! Thank you, James!"

He smiled. "Honestly, I don't think I could resist your pestering any longer!"

"Hey," She pouted, "You meanie." Her smile didn't stop, however. As the bell suddenly rang out, they both snapped to attention and said a hasty goodbye before bolting to their hour-one classes.

*RRRRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING*

James sat bolt upright with a piece of paper stuck to his face. After coming to his senses and looking around, he saw Mr. John shaking his head with a smile. All the other students filed out of the classroom while James gathered his things. When he looked up again, Mr. John was standing near him.

"James, was it?" He asked politely. "Have you been getting enough sleep lately? I'd like to think that my class isn't quite so boring as to take you to Dreamland," he chuckled.

"N-no sir," James stuttered. "I just had a rough night. I like your class a lot!" He met the teacher's kind face with visible regret. "I'm sorry, sir."

Mr. John seemed to look through him for a second or two, then returned to his desk and gathered his things. "I'm not putting any blame, shame, or, uh, something that rhymes with shame on you." Mr. John shook his head. "And now you know why I don't teach English!"

James smiled politely, but he was more anxious to leave than anything. I hope Sayori isn't waiting on me, I'd never hear the end of it.

As if on cue, Sayori burst through the classroom door. She was breathing heavily as she brushed the bangs out of her eyes, so when she quickly straightened her uniform and walked over to James, two words were the only things he could think of before she was in his face.

Oh no.

"What's the holdup? I thought you had left! Did you fall asleep again? I had to run from room 232 to here! Do you have any snacks as payment? Are you even listening to me? I know this is a lot but the cupcakes are shaped like cats so are you coming or what?"

James stumbled back under Sayori's Barrage Attack but managed a retort.

"Hey, Mr. John was just about to let me go!"

Sayori pursed her lips and narrowed her eyes, reminding James of an angry big sister. "Well, fine. We would all be very disappointed in you if you broke a promise."

"I didn't make any promises?"

Sayori stared him down. "Well, it doesn't matter now because you're coming with me now, right?

James waved her off. "Yes, of course. My only wish is to serve. Lead the way, my lady."

Sayori, of course, completely missed the sarcasm as her smile quickly came back to its usual place. "Great! Just follow me!"

Sayori walked away much quicker than James normally, which forced him to increase his pace to keep up. They both headed down the corridor for a while until they reached a stairwell. Heading up, Sayori bounced with energy, while James just walked normally. They reached the top and she turned left, with him in close pursuit. Suddenly, she stopped, prompting James to almost crash into her.

"Hey, Sayori, why'd you stop-" his sentence ended prematurely as his words died in his throat.

In front of both of them was a tall, powerful figure wearing an all-black hoodie over the school uniform. With the hood down but his back turned to them, they could both see his golden-brown hair. Standing above them both by several inches, even his silhouette was somehow scary. Their feet seemingly stuck to the floor, they were powerless to move when he slowly turned his head to look behind him as his blue-green eyes gleamed from above like an anime villain. Upon seeing them, his eyes narrowed as he turned around with a scowl, showing grit teeth. Sayori and James stood transfixed as he opened his mouth seemingly in slow motion and drew breath to speak what are undoubtedly the most horrifying words in the world!

"Hey. You. Do ya by any chance know how to get to the literature club?"

Sayori and James' mouths, which were both open in preparation to scream, only made a confused "Huh?" When they looked closer, their fears quickly diminished. His hoodie, while black, was the perfect backdrop for a scene from Star Wars III. Though tall, he put in effort to look harmless.

"Hey, you're not scared of me, are you? I'm big, but other than that I got nothin'. And I'm hopeless with directions, which is why I need you to snap out of it and either run away or get to know me."

Sayori was the first to stop reeling.

"We, um, we're heading there right now!" She quickly regained her energy, which doubled at the prospect of two new members for the club. "I'm the vice president! My name is Sayori, nice to meet you!"

The tall guy smiled, returning hers. "My name's BC. And no, it's not a nickname." He turned to James slowly so as to not startle him. "And what's your name, fellow literature enthusiast?"

James quickly snapped out of it upon being directly addressed. "My name is James, sir- I mean BC."

A grin formed on BC's face. "I'm terrible with names, so I'll probably forget that in about 20 minutes, so is it okay if we go to the club while I still remember you?"

Sayori chuckled as BC gestured for them to move onward, the opposite way of where the club was.
