Chapter Two

An Interrupted Weekend

Mercedes felt the key burning a hole in her purse and kept wondering who the hell Mr. Evans was and why he wanted to see her of all people. When she moved to Savannah, Georgia she did it because of the job she was offered right out of college, the same job she was at as Anthony Rashad's personal assistant and she loved the area though she had few friends due to her heavy work schedule. She managed to befriend her upstairs neighbors Kurt and Blaine and through them she made another friend with a kind woman named Tina. Every so often they would all get together and have dinners and watch trash tv until they couldn't stand it any longer, Kurt came over more often than the other two just to chat or have what he called 'vital girl time'.

Her life was quiet and very non adventurous, she considered getting a dog but the thought of when she would ever have time to enjoy said animal would always pop up and sway her from going through with it. There was one thing that kept her from packing up and leaving back for that tiny town she used to live and that was the quality of stores that weren't in her hometown of Lima. She loved being able to just get up and go shopping and not worrying about if any of the stores would even have her size, she was a curvy woman and she sometimes like showing her figure. Whenever she was feeling extremely bold she would bust out one of her dresses and dance around her apartment in it or treat herself to a nice dinner and movie.

Sure she was hit on from time to time but her inability to actually muster up the courage to flirt back or accept the advances is where she fell short. Most men found her shyness sexy until they figured that she wasn't doing it to be sexy, she was indeed shy and they equated her shyness to being a prude. She knew how to assert herself when she needed to and whenever she was at the office she made sure Anthony understood she was there to her job and that was it, nothing more nothing less.

Now she was more than happy her brother decided to have his event here being that Savannah had plenty of beautiful places for this event that he literally gave no real information about to any, but since she didn't have to travel and her family was finally coming to visit… well they were coming by default but she was excited none the less. She had the address to the venue plugged into her GPS, he wanted them to meet him a place called The Mackey House. Outside of a venue, they were given strict guidelines on their wardrobe and were asked to be there promptly at 4:15 pm, she was roughly ten minutes away when her phone began to ring and she let out annoyed groan because of the ring tone. Beethoven's 5th Harmony in C Minor, she knew it was Anthony and contemplated answering before giving in and answering.

"Yes?" She answered trying not to sound annoyed.

"Jones, I need you to come in tomorrow we have a big client and I will need your assistance."

"Ah, I can't I have family in town. I requested this time and used my PTO to ensure that it would be uninterrupted."

"I'll make sure you're days are doubled and added, this isn't up for debate be here at 8 AM." Anthony replied then hung up making Mercedes scream and throw her phone as she pulled up to the venue. She gripped her steering wheel willing herself to just get out without calling her boss back, she closed her eyes and counted to twenty before letting out a breath and getting out and heading inside.

She smiled when she saw her mother and father standing there talking to her brother who looked handsome in his tan dress pants, soft pink button down and navy suit jacket. Her mother always the elegant woman that she was wore a light peach one shoulder cocktail dress, her hair was in a neat low bun and her make up light and fitting for her look. Her father looked more causal opting for just khaki's and a light blue button down shirt with his sleeves rolled up to elbows.

"Hi!" Mercedes said when she was close enough and immediately hugged her parents then her brother.

"Hey teacup! How's Savannah treating you?" Her father Kenneth asked squeezing her cheek making her giggle.

"It's pretty good, I'm happy to see you guys." She replied smiling brightly before it dropped when his brother's girlfriend approached.

"Oh look Cedie made it, so glad you could join us." His girlfriend, Lena said with fake enthusiasm before looking over her with a disapproving look. Mercedes just rolled her eyes and holding her tongue because she knew nothing nice was going to come out until she had at least one drink.

"Excuse me, I'm going to get me a drink." She said shooting everyone except Lena a smile then walked away.

She really loved how beautiful they decorated with the white beams laced with string lights, the tables all had white linen tablecloths and floral centerpieces with candles hidden in them and there was large banquet area that was adorned with plenty of different foods, treats and drinks. She smiled as she passed some of the other guest before walking over and grabbing a glass of champagne and a few strawberries to nibble on until her brother revealed why the hell everyone was there.

"Well I see a little southern sun did you good." She heard from behind her and smiled when she her brother's best friend standing there.

"Awh Shane! How are you?" She asked giving him a hug.

"I'm good, trying to figure out why the hell we all had to travel down here for this but at least I get to see you right?" He replied nudging her.

"So you don't know either? I swear this is going to be the longest night… and this dress is itchy." She said shaking her head and Shane just looked at her before nodding. She would be lying if she said she didn't notice him look at her intensely before looking away, she was aware of his attraction to her but she didn't view him as anything but as her brother's friend.

"I think you look gorgeous but that could be the heat talking." He joked playing with one of her curls only stopping when her brother approached them.

"Hey, we're about to start we're meeting outside." Tristen said giving Shane a look before grabbing Mercedes's hand.

"You know I can walk myself outside right?" She asked once they were no longer in ear shot of Shane.

"Why is it that whenever you two are alone it seems like you're having some weird moment?"

"T, I'm not remotely interested in Shane… he's more like an older brother and yes I know he doesn't see me that way but that has nothing to do with me." Mercedes responded feeling like a little kid again being warned by her brother about talking to any boys.

"Good see that it stays that way." He said stopping and giving her a warm smile before letting her hand go and walking over to where Lena was waiting, Mercedes walked over to her where their parents were and waited for whatever announcement they were about to make.

"Okay so I know all of you are wondering why we asked you all here and I know all of you are pretty pissed you had to travel so far but it's for a good reason I swear." Tristen said smiling at Lena.

"WE GOT MARRIED!" They shouted together and the room after a brief moment erupted in loud cheers and claps even from Mercedes though she still disliked Lena, she could still be happy for her brother in this moment.

"Wait there's more! We are officially expecting our first little bundle of joy!" Lena added making their mother scream out excitedly before rushing over to them and hugging them tightly. Mercedes could see the sheer joy on her brother's face and walked over to give him a hug also to congratulate them both.

"Congrats big bro, I'm really happy for the both of you and I can't wait to meet my little niece or nephew." Mercedes said giving her brother a tight hug and giving Lena a small smile.

"Thanks sis, we're excited and you're going to be the best aunt I just know it. Then when you have kids I can be the cool uncle that spoils them and getting them hype on sugar before sending them back to you." Tristen joked making Mercedes laugh while Lena snorted and rolled her eyes.

The rest of the night went well, they all ate and danced while her mother gushed over the new pending addition to their family and Mercedes danced with her father a few times before having to leave since she had to be at work so early but promised to make time to spend with everyone before they left.

"Good morning Jones, I need to go over these files for me and also as soon as the client gets here please show him to the conference room. Also have coffee waiting please, along with a few items to snack on." Anthony said handing her a few files before leaving to go back into his office. She went over the forms and rearranged the files so they made more since first before noticing someone walking into the office, assumed it was who the big client walked in and her breathing caught when she realized it was the same gentleman from a few nights ago.

"We meet again." He said smiling while admiring her with his eyes, she felt a rush of cool air flow over her body and goosebumps began form on her exposed skin.

Sooooo...? Such a filler chapter but the next one is already done ;) and it picks right back up from where this one left off... and Sam... well until next time! XOXO
