She tried to live her life like anyone else and act like a normal girl but everyday she slowly breaks more and more. The duo exited the portal and landed right outside of grudby field of Hexside, right in the final bell was ringing.
"Alright, we should probably hide and see what if we can find anything important." Phoenix said, "Let's get into a tree and hide."
The two hid in a tree and waited, seeing a heavily scarred girl wearing a mask over her mouth with an arm wrapped around Skara's waist.
"Hey look, it's Skara and….does that girl look like us?" Fighter Luz asked, pointing to the mask faced girl.
Phoenix squinted her eyes a bit before gasping, holding a hand to her mouth.
"It is us. But how did she get to…..scarred?" Phoenix asked as the Scarred Luz and Skara headed into town.
"Well, that's definitely different from our dimensions, she's dating Skara." Fighter Luz said.
Phoenix nodded in agreement, Skara was a cute witch and all but she never thought of going out with her. Fighter Luz felt the same, the only girl for them was Amity but apparently this Luz thought otherwise.
"Come on, we better follow them. Athena doesn't look like she's made her move yet, but we can't be too sure." Fighter Luz said to Phoenix.
They followed them into the town, keeping themselves hidden. They watched as Skara leaned against Scarred Luz's shoulder.
"Have I ever told you how much I love you?" Skara asked.
"Everyday." Scarred Luz said.
Scarred Luz suddenly tackled Skara out of the way of Athena's axe. Everyone screamed as they ran from the market as Athena appeared by her axe and pulled it from the ground.
"You've got sharp instincts." Athena said as she picked up her axe, turning to a glaring Scarred Luz and a frightened Skara. "I like that."
"Who the hell are you?" Scarred Luz asked as she put Skara behind her.
"The person that's going to liberate the multiverse, and I was going to use you, but." She looks at Skara hiding behind Scarred Luz, "I might have a change of plans."
Athena raised her axe but was hit by a strong fire blast.
"Sorry, but you're not going to mess with anyone here." Phoenix said, still in the suit.
Phoenix threw more blasts as Athena used axe to block then before Fighter Luz dropped down from above!
"Try this!" She shouted, powered up with the power glyph and dropping an axe kick! "Yah!"
Athena raised her weapon to block, falling to a knee from the strength behind the attack.
"So you do have some power. Impressive." Athena comments.
Suddenly, Scarred Luz charged forward with her right hand having a spell circle on her wrist and a blue fire ball in her hand!
"You're wide open!" She shouted, slamming the fire ball into Athena's chest.
Athena was slammed through several stalls. Phoenix was impressed, she found someone else that had an act for fire. Athena got up and growled. She threw her axe at the group, making them all have to dodge it. This gave Athena the chance to put her hands on the ground, sending out shadows towards them.
"Rise, Husks!" Athena said.
Several beings rose from the shadows. they were thin, solid black in color, had red eyes, and lacked intelligence. They only did as their master ordered.
"Attack them, my children." Athena said
"ROOOOAH!" The Husks roared as they charged at the quartet!
"I read about these, they're shadow beasts called "Husk." Soulless creatures with a hunger for death and destruction." Scarred Luz said as she reached into her shirt and pulled out a necklace with a black pearl, "But she's not the only one who can summon spirits."
A Black and white spirit came from the pearl.
"Attack." Scarred Luz said.
"RAHHH!" It roared as it charged at the Husk's swiping at several while some slipped past it to attack the Luzs and Skara.
"Come on, Phoenix, let's burn these bastards." Fighter Luz said.
"Remember, we shouldn't take the outfits off yet." Phoenix said.
"Then it's a good thing I can use my gloves with it on." Fighter Luz said.
Phoenix and Fighter Luz prepared their fire attack, orange for Phoenix and gold for Fighter, as Skara drew a spell circle to summon a harp.
"I don't know who you girls are but I can give you some support." Skara said to them before talking to her girlfriend. "And babe?"
"Yeah?" Scarred Luz asked she prepared another fire spell.
"Please, don't use too much. I hate seeing you that way." Skara said with worry, knowing how Luz gets with her blue fire.
"I can't help it, fire made me who I am today." Scarred Luz said.
Skara sighed sadly at this before she kissed her cheek a bit.
"For luck at least." Skara said before she began to play the harm, casting a spell on the trio to increase their magic and durability.
Scarred Luz ran at the Husks, sending fire at them.
"The best way to deal with husks, is to get rid of their boss!" Scarred Luz shouted as she charged towards Athena.
"Stop! It's too risky!" Fighter Luz shouted as she dodged a husk and delivered a light punch to burn it away!
Scarred Luz didn't listen and charged at Athena, trying to punch her, but Athena dodged. Athena grabbed Scarred Luz by the neck and lifted her up.
"You impress me, but I need you to reign that in a little." Athena said, "You need a way to be controlled."
Athena looked at Skara, who was distracted by Husks.
"And I know how."
Athena threw Scarred Luz into a stand and rushed towards Skara.
"Skara, no!" Scarred Luz shouted before ordering her black spirit. "Protect Skara, now!"
"ROOOAH!" Her black spirit roared as he finished off some more husks before flying towards Skara to protect her.
The spirit went to prevent Athena from moving forward, but she raised her axe and charged it with dark energy. She swung at the spirit, destroying it.
"Good try but not good enough." Athena said as she continued towards Skara!
The bard witch saw her coming and tried to play a cord but Athena was too quick and grabbed her hand!
"Ah Ah Ah, that's enough music for one day." Athena said as she forced Skara to drop the harp and kneed her in the stomach!
"Gah!" Skara grunted as her air was knocked out, slowly passing out.
"SKARA!" Scarred Luz shouted as she rushed to save her!
"Don't worry, you'll see her soon." Athena said.
Athena snapped her fingers and disappeared with Skara.
"No!" Scarred Luz screamed as she fell where Athena and Skara were.
With the last of the husks finished off, Phoenix and Fighter Luz turned to their dimensional sister before going to her side.
"Damn it, she got away!" Fighter Luz said.
"We'll find her and we'll save Skara." Phoenix said before putting a hand in Scarred Luz's left shoulder. "I'm sorry we couldn't stop her but we wi-"
Scarred Luz slapped her hand away before turning around, grabbing them both by the neck and blasting forth to slam them into a nearby stand!
"I don't know who the hell you both are but you better start explaining who that was and why she took my girlfriend!" She said as blue flames came from her arms. "Or else I'll burn you both to ash!"
Though that wouldn't work thanks to their suits, they could see the worry on her eyes and decided to make good on her request but retracting their helmets to show their faces.
"We're you." Fighter and Phoenix said at the same time.
Scarred Luz glared, but after a minute, dropped them.
"Who the hell was that?" Scarred Luz demanded.
"Her name is Athena and for some reason, she's out to rule the multiverse." Phoenix said as her's and Fighter Luz's suits retracted to show their normal clothes.
Scarred Luz looked down, but Phoenix put a hand on her shoulder.
"Skara will be safe, I promise you that." Phoenix said.
Scarred Luz looked up to her, deciding whether or not to put her faith in these two alternate versions of herself, but then remembered how Skara had faith in her to open up, to be loved, to not think…..she couldn't be fixed.
"Okay, I'll trust you two." Scarred Luz said with a nod.
"Great. Now, how about we head to your place and come up with a plan? Your Oracle magic could help us find Athena and get the drop on her if we work quick enough." Fighter Luz said, paying attention to her scarred copy's track uniform.
"Come on then." Scarred Luz said, getting up.
Scarred Luz took the lead and began walking to her home as they followed behind her. But as they walked, Fighter and Phoenix noticed her sleeves were slightly singed away and revealing that her arms were covered in severe burn scars. Some looked fresh while these rest looked older, as if they had always been there.
"So, what can you tell us about your dimension?" Fighter Luz asked.
"What do you want to know?" Scarred Luz ranked back of them, not looking at them.
"Like…maybe tell us a little about you?" Phoenix asked gently.
"I was burned at a young age, that's all you need to know." Scarred Luz said, not willing to tell them anymore about herself.
Both Luzs flinched at this answer but they didn't push any further. This was her personal life and they couldn't force her to say more than she wanted to.
'Still, why didn't she go to the healing center for them to be heal?' Fighter Luz thought as she gazed at the scars again. 'Or maybe…they couldn't be healed completely?'
Phoenix thought the same thing and wondered if she could heal her burns if Scarred Luz asked or wanted. But she realized it was unlikely that she would. This girl doesn't look like she is willing to ask for help.
After a few minutes of walking, the trio reached her home on the edge of Bonesborough.
"Here we are, home sweet home." Scarred Luz said as she pulled out a key and opened the door. "Mom's still at work, so you don't have to worry about her seeing you two."
"Wow this place is... creepy." Phoenix said.
The house was a lot scarier on the inside than it was on the outside, it seemed like a haunted mansion with dark painted walls, gothic decorations, and some purple or blue candles for lighting.
"It's like a haunted horror movie in here." Fighter Luz said.
"Yeah, it's nice, isn't it? My family has a proud history of powerful Oracle witches. Stuff like to us is normal for us." Scarred Luz said as she closed the door behind them.
Phoenix looked around and came upon a haunted painting, where a ghost says.
"Help... me."
"I have slain a giant living corpse and this is by far creepier than that." Phoenix said.
"I've seen the inside of a giant worm monster and I still agree." Fighter Luz said as Scarred Luz moved ahead of them.
"We can swap stories after I change, and we come up with a plan. Now come on, my room is this way." Scarred Luz said.
This girl was scary, they wondered how Skara could handle her. Following her upstairs, the trio saw some family pictures of Scarred Luz and a rather scary looking Camila Noceda with a purple and red dress, black bags under her eyes, and a chilling smile on her lips. Even their mother was scary in this universe. It wouldn't surprise them if this Camila ate people, that would be the least creepy thing they've seen here. Once they reached Scarred Luz's room, the duo looks around to see the room was even creepier than the rest of the house. Some of her furniture looked like it was made of bones!
'Please let that just be carved wood.' Fighter and Phoenix thoughts.
"Sit wherever you want, I'll change quickly." Scarred Luz said as she walked to her closet, opening it and taking off her school uniform.
Both Luzs gasped at the sight of Scarred Luz's body, seeing the burn scars were even worse than they thought! The only normal parts of her skin on her upper body were her left shoulder diagonally across her body and the small area between her stomach and pants! They couldn't stand anymore and turned away with their eyes shut.
"Not a pretty picture, is it?" Scarred Luz asked, knowing they were staring at her burn scars.
"No one? Not even your own classmates?" Phoenix asked her.
"Outside of class, nope. Ever since I got burned as a kid, everyone avoided me like a plague." Scarred Luz said as she finished changing into a black face mask, long sleeve blue shirt with blue and black strip sleeves, blue shorts, and knee high punk boots.
"All but Skara, why is that?" Fighter Luz asked as Scarred Luz scoffed but smiled under her mask.
"She's just crazy. Always saying that even a broken instrument can sound beautiful…..I guess she was right in the end. A witch like her found my mangled melody nice." Scarred Luz said as she shut her closet, "I... I can't lose her."
Fighter and Phoenix saw her sniffle a bit before she wiped away would be tears and turned towards them, she had to put on a strong front and focus on saving the only person important to her outside of her mother.
"Now, about the both of you and Athena." Scarred Luz said as she sat on her bed, waiting for them to explain themselves.
As the two Luzs began to explain themselves to their scarred dimensional sister, Athena was having a little conversion with this universe's Skara to learn about any differences.
"You are interesting." Athena said.
"Really? Jeez, that makes me feel special." Skara said with sarcasm, being held in a spear of shadow magic with only her head visible. "Mind telling me why?"
"Because you alone, stand by the scarred witch. I can sense she has great power but I also sense she has a DELICATE soul. It's like a thread that is close to snapping." Athena said as she walked around Skara. "So please, educate me on how you can keep that thread from snapping."
"Why? So you can manipulate her?" Skara said with a glare.
Athena was getting tired of this.
"You know, I was close with one of your doppelgangers." Athena said, "Unfortunately, you, just like others, died."
"D-d-died?" Skara asked.
"Boscha, Amelia, Willow, even the Human." Athena said, "You tried to save Boscha but got stuck under a collapsing building. You were crushed to death, all because of you trying to save a friend. Now, tell me everything about that girl before I make you die in an even more painful way."
"H-h-human?" Skara asked.
"Oh, that's right." Athena said, "In my dimension, Luz was a human that found her way to the demon realm, now, Luz is dead."
"I-I-I don't believe you." Skara said, trying to be brave.
"That's adorable that you're trying to act tough but we both know you're all talk." Athena said as she moved closer, holding up her hand and making ball of black flames. "Now, about your Luz….."
Elsewhere, Scarred Luz was with her doppelgangers.
"Where could she be?"
"Well the last time we found her, we used a Scrying potion to find her in a secluded area of the woods but she might be hiding somewhere else." Fighter Luz said as she rubbed her chin.
"I could go out to search from the sky but that might take too long." Phoenix said as she rubbed her chin.
"It's our only option." Fighter said, "Get up there."
Phoenix nodded and became an actual Phoenix. She flapped her wings and flew into the sky. Scarred Luz was slightly surprised by this, hearing about it was one thing but seeing it was another.
"Damn, nice flames." She said with a nod.
"Yeah, I'm almost envious sometimes but I like the gold flames I can make with my glyph gloves." Fighter Luz said, "She said her blue version is bigger though. Right now, she's orange and a bit bigger than a vulture."
"What's a vulture?" Scarred Luz asked.
'Oh right, she was born a witch here.' Fighter Luz thought.
"It's somewhat large predatory bird that eats from corpses in the human world." Fighter Luz explained.
"Oh! Cool." Scarred Luz said with a grin under her mask.
"Yeah, you would find that interesting." Fighter Luz said, "Anyway, we should keep looking on foot."
Scarred Luz got up and lead Fighter Luz out of her house so they could look around for Skara, even if they didn't know where to look.
"You think we should search in any dark places? Athena seemed like the kind of girl to like dark places." Scarred Luz said to Fighter Luz.
"Probably, you might do better at finding those." Fighter Luz said.
Nodding and taking her suggestion to heart, Scarred Luz pulled out her black pearl and used it to summon several spirits to her side.
"Search for my song bird, find Skara." She ordered them.
The spirits took off in different directions.
"If anyone will find her, it will be them." Scarred Luz said.
Fighter Luz nodded to her as they continued to search on foot. Soon, Phoenix landed in front of them and turned back.
"There's a cave about ten minutes from here, she might be hiding in there."
"I just sent out some spirits to help but sure, let's check that out." Scarred Luz said with a shrug.
The trio headed towards the cave, nervous of what they might find. They went in and saw... nothing. Even lighting the cave with all of their flames did nothing to find anything. It was just a dead end.
"Dang it, I thought there'd be something here." Phoenix said as she looked around the cave.
"Maybe Athena is using an illusion or invisibility spell? A villain never makes finding them easy." Fighter Luz suggested.
"Very smart."
They turned and saw Athena, but is wasn't actually her, it was an Illusion.
"I have to say, I wasn't expecting you to find this place yet, but I guess that means I can give you the surprise now." Athena said, pressing a button.
Small red lights started flashing.
"She's rigged this place to blow!" Fighter Luz said.
"Go, get out!" Phoenix said, rushing the other Luz's out.
She was close behind, but she didn't get out by the time the bombs went off. A charred Corpse was all of Phoenix that made it out. Scarred Luz, was actually creeped out by seeing someone burn that much.
"Holy fuck!" Fighter Luz voiced for the both of them, shocked at seeing Phoenix's body that damaged!
A few moments later, the body burst into flames and began to heal itself, putting them both at slight ease as she slowly leaned up.
"Well, that was something, wasn't it?" Phoenix asked.
"Yeah. My girlfriend is still missing and I just watched a burning corpse come back from the dead….well at least something good came from this cave." Scarred Luz said as she returned to her normal self.
"Yeah, no shit! Meanwhile a crazy woman in red and black armor is still out there!" Fighter Luz shouted to the two of them.
"And we'll find her." Phoenix said, "This is nothing more than an attempt at distracting us."
'Yeah, by blowing us up.' Fighter Luz thought as Scarred Luz got up and checked with her spirits.
"Find anything?" She said into her black pearl, which flashed purple in response.
"What does that mean?" Phoenix asked.
"They say they can't sense anything in town, but they are picking up on something leading them to the Knee. Maybe that's where Athena is." Scarred Luz said to then.
"That's our only option then." Fighter Luz said.
"Then let's get going." Phoenix said to them.
The trio headed for the Knee, unsure of what Athena is going to do next.
Phoenix changed into her Phoenix form, Fighter Luz flew with fire blasting from her hands, and Scarred Luz rode on her giant black spirit.
"What do you call that thing?" Fighter Luz asked.
"Reka." Scarred Luz said simply.
"Okay, then... so, we need to be ready for anything." Fighter Luz said.
"Why do you think I have her out?" Scarred Luz asked her.
"I mean an actual game plan. We can't just got in guns blazing." Fighter Luz said.
"What's a gu-" Scarred Luz asked but was cut off.
"Focus! Your girlfriend is on the line, remember?!" Fighter Luz shouted at her, making Reka growl at her a bit.
"Calm down, girl." Scarred Luz said.
Scarred Luz might not be showing it, but Skara was on her mind. It was making her restless and she just wanted to BURN Athena's ashes to ashes for doing this!
'I'll find you, Skara, don't worry.' She thought.
Elsewhere, Athena laughed as Skara silently cried.
"There, now you look more like your girlfriend." Athena said.
After lighting Skara's back on fire, it was burnt, blistered, and bloody. Athena put her finger on Skara's back, making her scream.
"Well, now that I burned the part of your body that you can cover up, I think it's time to burn that pretty little face of yours." Athena said.
"N-No! Nonononono! Please no!" Skara said, begging Athena as she moved before her.
"Why not? You and your Luz would match. Besides, you love her even with her scars. Why wouldn't she love you the same?" Athena asked as she held up her right hand, covered in black flames. "Now, just hold still. This will only hurt for a second."
She threw the black fire at Skara, burning the right side of her face. Skara screamed as her face burned and lost sight in her right eye.
"Oh, that looks bad." Athena said.
Though she didn't know it, the scream Skara gave was heard by one of Scarred Luz's spirits and they rushed to get the exact location before communicating the information to her.
"Hmm?" Scarred Luz hummed as she felt her pearl pulse with a message.
She quickly grabbed it as the information came to her, Skara's exact location!
"Follow me!" She screamed at Phoenix and Fighter as Reka took the lead, flying them ahead.
The trio landed and Scarred Luz rushed to get to Skara. Athena heard them land and left the secret room to intercept them. The place where Athena hid was an old castle on the Knee, which had an illusion spell on it to hide that it was fully refurbished and restyled into a dark noir castle with red and black everywhere.
"Hello, Luzs. Do you like what I've done with the place?" Athena asked them.
Scarred Luz didn't waste time in sending fire at her. Athena was surprised by this as she jumped into the air to dodge before Phoenix and Fighter Luz jumped to attack her. Phoenix had a flaming punch while Fighter Luz had a power glyph amped kick!
"Where's Skara?!" They asked as they attacked but Athena blocked them both!
Athena summoned her axe and swung at Fighter, who had to jump back to avoid getting hit, while Phoenix was hit in the jaw by the axe. She knew she could take the hits, so she was more than willing to get the fatal shots while they rush her.
"Not bad. As for Skara, she's here but you MAY want to give her a little time to rest." Athena said.
"What did you do to her?!" Scarred Luz asked as Reka looked over her, growling.
"Let's just say... you two have a lot more in common now." Athena said, "She just wasn't able to handle the heat."
Scarred Luz yelled and charged at Athena.
'Perfect.' Athena thought.
While she was highly skilled in magic, Scarred Luz hasn't really shown much fighting ability. Athena easily dodged a strike, and then countered with her own punch, making Scarred Luz stumble back. Athena easily hit her in the jaw with another punch, and then punched her several times in the stomach. Athena grabbed her head and brought it down just as she raised her knee. Scarred Luz landed on the ground and groaned as she spit up a little blood.
"You really are an incredibly skilled person when it comes to magic, but when it comes to physical power, you are easy to get under the skin and get you to lose focus." Athena said.
"Then why don't you try and keep up with me." Fighter Luz said.
Athena turned and was sucker punched by Fighter Luz, knocking her away from Scarred Luz.
"We can handle her! Go save your girlfriend!" Fighter Luz said as she continued to fight Athena with the power glyph!
Scarred Luz ran off, looking for Skara. She scrabbled through every door she could find in search of Skara, even having Reka help her search by destroying the doors with her bare fists! She knocked down another door and ran in, finding a crying Skara in a cage.
"N-n-no more... please." Skara said.
"Skara!"
Skara hid her face from Luz, afraid she'll reject her after seeing her like this.
"No! Don't look at me!" Skara said.
Scarred Luz opened the cage and held onto Skara, seeing her burned face.
"I... I look horrible." Skara said, "I-"
Scarred Luz put a hand on Skara's left cheek and wiped a tear away.
"You're beautiful." Scarred Luz said, "You always will be, both inside and out."
She kissed Skara. Skara cried gently as she kissed her back, so happy to be with her again. Scarred Luz moved away and gently picked up Skara, feeling more of her injuries as Skara whimpered a in pain.
"It's alright. I'm here." Scarred Luz said to her, "We'll get you fixed up soon."
Phoenix and Fighter had healing magic, they could fix Skara up, her burns looked too fresh.
'That bitch is gonna pay.' Scarred Luz thought, angry with Athena for her underhanded tactic.
"Reka, let's go." Scarred Luz said as her giant black spirit picked them both up.
With Athena, her and Phoenix were having a test of strength. Fighter Luz had put up a good fight, but Athena had knocked her away and kept her busy with some Husks while Phoenix decided to test her.
"Not bad, you truly have the strength of a god." Athena said before chuckling. "But the same could be said for me."
Phoenix growled as she was pushed to a knee. Phoenix slammed her head against Athena, but Athena just stayed still.
"Foolish." Athena said, slamming her foot into Phoenix's face.
Phoenix was knocked to the ground as Athena summoned her axe and held it up.
"This time, let's go for the heart!" She shouted, aiming for Phoenix's chest!
Before she could hit Phoenix, she was knocked back by Reka. The armored woman was sent flying and crashed into the front wall of her castle as Scarred Luz landed next to Phoenix with Skara, setting her down next to Phoenix.
"Heal her." She said.
"I'll do my best and thanks for the save." Phoenix said as she got up, beginning to heal Skara.
"No problem." She replied before waving her hand, shooting blue fire at the husks around Fighter Luz, "Well, I have to congratulate you. You did something that no one else has been able to do..."
She shot more fire at Athena.
"...You pissed me off."
Athena groaned from the fire a bit before she flexed her magic, breaking from the wall and landing on the ground.
"So what? You're a little anger isn't going to help you win!" Athena shouted at her.
"You think that? Well, here's a little something, when I get mad, my fire tends to get a bit hotter!" Scarred Luz said as she held up her hands, producing more fire as he sleeves burned away. "Let's see if you can take the heat! Fighter, move!"
Fighter Luz did as she said as blasted herself into the air as Scarred Luz unleashed a huge stream of blue flames! Scarred Luz was enraged, but she wasn't the only one. Phoenix got next to her; her powers activated.
"I only killed once, but I'm ready to kill her." Phoenix said, "And don't worry, Skara's fine, her back will be a little scarred and she'll have some vision problems for a little bit, but that will go away with proper treatment. Now, I'm mad, so I think it's time we burn her."
"I agree." Fighter Luz said, standing next to them, "Shall we?"
Scarred Luz smiled and held up a hand, so did the other two. They each held out one hand and fired orange, blue, and gold fire at Athena. Athena made a black shield, but the force began to make it crack.
"She's too unpredictable to control." Athena said, "I can't use her or this dimension."
Putting more power into her shield, Athena made it repel the flames and explode in a smokescreen. She then used it to escape to the next universe while they were blinded.
Their vision returned and they looked on as the portal closed.
"Damn, she's gone." Fighter Luz said, putting her suit on, "We need to go."
"I know." Phoenix said, turning to Scarred Luz, "Get her to a Healer."
"I will, thank you... for everything." Scarred Luz said.
The two Luz's run through the portal, going after Athena.
