"The Ocelot answered me. He told me to text him back once we'll be back to town," Claire informed Owen later that morning, speaking quietly in order to not be heard by Judd and Nala, the keepers in charge of that sector and then at the other side of the barn.

Having seen fit to have them work together so they could talk things over and eventually end their conflict, Juan had tasked the couple with cleaning the triceratops barn. When he noticed that they had made peace, the head keeper had been very reassured, as their conflicting situation had, according to some, almost created a shitty atmosphere within the crew.

"I'm also thinking of telling Eli about our discovery," she added.

Owen stopped swiping to look at her.

"You're sure you want to tell him?" He asked her. "I'm not trusting him yet."

"You remember what he and Lockwood said. If I want them to help me, I have to carry out my commitments, even if our instincts tell us to be guarded."

"I know. Let's wait until we're back home and the animals at the estate before telling him about that. Many things can happen in a week," he said while looking at the Triceratops which stood behind the bars of the gate that led to the paddock.

It was sniffing their scent and had trouble seeing them due to its poor eyesight.

Soon after, Jocelyn arrived at the barn, having been told that Juan had assigned them there. As she was showering when Owen returned to the hacienda, she had only seen him again at the keepers' office and the combination of him leaving like a thief to seeing him with Claire had left a bitter taste in her mouth. When she had returned to her office afterwards, she had hurried to check that everything was in order, following Joel's suggestion. She hadn't noticed anything out of the ordinary, but that hadn't been enough to ease her conscience. Owen's attitude being the source of many questions on her part, she had decided to go see the couple in the barn, to check how they behaved.

Making sure to remain discreet, she did not enter the service corridor which ran along the stalls and stayed right at its entrance. Hidden by a corner of the wall, she ventured a look in the direction of the stall where they were and when she saw them working cheerfully while humming together some merry song, she had the final confirmation that they had buried the hatchet and that it was like they never had a fight during their stay and were a really happy couple.

Having heard that Claire took off her mask when she worked with the keepers, Jocelyn didn't dare to stay any longer, fearing that she would glimpse the hideous scar it must be hiding. She left the barn and as she returned to the hacienda, she harboured a great distrust of the couple. She thought their reconciliation was too easy and too sudden.

What if all that was just playacting, like some of the employees assume? Claire must have noticed that I was attracted to Owen and that nasty vixen used that against me, making me invite him to stay at the hacienda out of pity and have some time alone with me! Did he drug me last night? That would explain why I fell asleep so quickly. But why did they do that? They didn't raped me as far as I know and don't seem to have stolen anything. Unless they didn't steal but just borrowed? Yes but what?

Realizing what the next moment, she touched her chain and pulled out the key out of her blouse to look at it.

But what in my office could have possibly interested them?

Then she remembered that Valentine and several other employees had seen them wandering all across the estate whenever they had free time, like if they were looking for something.

What if they had heard of the house and Wu's stay there?

Jocelyn feared that was the case and wondered who had instructed them to snoop.

Joel is right, we have to keep an eye on them, she thought. They could be spies.
