Vanessa and her two scientists colleagues were laying unconscious in a dark corner of the unloading platform. Claire, Owen and Guillaume were leaning over them, busy taking off some of their clothes, and nearby, they had put down three latex masks at the image of carnivorous dinosaurs. They had found them against one of the columns, right next to where the trio of employees had been smoking a few minutes earlier. The presence of these masks had initially surprised them, before realizing that there was perhaps a party somewhere in the manor.
While Claire put on Vanessa's uniform, Owen and Guillaume put the trio's badges aside and carried the bodies to the nearest cluster of bushes to dump them there. When they returned to the platform, the two men put on the scientists' coats, took off their hoods to put them in the ex-Interpol agent's bag and tried on the masks.
"This mask is too big for me, take it," Guillaume said to Owen.
Claire, who had already taken off her hood, turned around and saw the WDMC director handing the Raptor Whisperer the mask he had just tried on. It depicted a blue-grey Neoraptor with a crest of proto-feathers on top of the skull and two small red twin crests above the snout, a male of the iroquoii subspecies, one of the Five Deaths' most emblematic predators. Owen grabbed it and put it on.
"Which one do you want, Claire?" Guillaume asked, showing her the two remaining masks. "The Proceratosaurus or the Indominus?"
The look of the fallen director stopped on the mask at the image of her deceased nemesis. She still remembered the day when she had a meeting about the Indominus-related merchandise, and looking back, the carelessness she then showed made her uncomfortable. Suddenly, she understood that woman from Enid, Oklahoma, who had once complained to InGen and the masks' manufacturer after a scare she had on Halloween night, half a dozen years before the Fall. When the doorbell rang, she naturally got up to open it, thinking it was a group of children who had come to ask her for candy. It had been the case, but when she saw that one of them was wearing a male Neoraptor iroquoii mask, she suddenly had a panic attack and closed the door without giving any candy. It turned out that the plaintiff had been one of the protagonists of the Kirby Incident, which had taken place during the summer of 2001 on Isla Sorna and during which she had some encounters with neoraptors.
Of course, the Indominus' merchandise had never been put on the market and the mask in the hands of the WDMC director must have been a prototype which no one had wanted and had somehow ended up in possession of that guard.
"You can take the Proceratosaurus if you want," Guillaume said, noticing Claire's hesitation.
But the fallen park director took the Indominus mask.
"This one will do…" she said before putting it on.
Guillaume put on the remaining mask, which depicted a male Proceratosaurus with a scarlet head and a pronounced crest, and he and the couple then headed for the nearest door. Using one of the badges, they entered the old factory.
At the same time, the pair of guards sent to the old cabin by Torres arrived at their destination. Tasers and flashlights in hand, they walked around but couldn't find Valentine on the porch. They looked around and called him.
"Taylor! Where are you?!"
The guard closest to the door then heard a whine, coming from inside the cabin. He motioned for his colleague to be quiet for a moment and they heard another moan. After exchanging a look, they broke down the door and froze when they saw that their colleague Marigold was there, lying on the floor, bound and gagged, her face red with anger.
While one undid her bonds, the other took his radio and confirmed the couple's escape as well as Valentine's treason.
The latter was not far away. Having anticipated their coming, he just had the time to hide in the middle of the bushes and thickets on the other side of the path. He knew he had to try to leave the estate but the two guards being still too close, he waited.
Following the corridor connecting the unloading platform to the upper level of the bunker, the couple and Guillaume passed in front of the gymnasium's access double gates. They stopped for a short moment to observe the revellers and those, thinking they were seeing Vanessa and her two companions, were not alarmed. They were dancing in the smoke and the loudspeaker played a version of The Lion King's Be prepared without lyrics. Karim, Giles and Nicole, already a little drunk, were singing:
…
And this suffering, of illegal research, we will remember it forever.
Those shitty hybrids will devour our ethics
International Genetics!
Then they burst out laughing and this hilarity turned into an almost uncontrollable laughter. Where some of the revellers wore masks similar to those taken by Guillaume and the couple, at the image of various other animals, both prehistoric and modern, others did not and Wu was one of them. Claire found him fairly quickly and began to stare intently at him.
"Claire. Not now…," Guillaume told her softly. "Let them party. Let's take the opportunity to prepare a bad surprise for them."
With a nod, the WDMC director invited the couple to follow him towards the door at the end of the corridor, to the bunker. Reluctantly, Claire followed him and Owen brought up the rear.
They crossed the small room with the spiral staircase, went into the next one with the dummies, the rest of the training equipment and the control station, then went out on the catwalk, scanning the large room to check that they were alone. Claire, Owen and Guillaume entered the offices-relaxation area first.
"Okay. Which one is Wu's?" The WDMC director wondered.
They found the office of InGen's chief geneticist soon enough, and from his backpack Guillaume pulled out some screwdrivers. He then walked around the desk and leaned over to the computer tower while the couple searched the others and the shelves for important documents.
"Go to the lab while you can," the former Interpol agent suggested. "Take pictures, steal, sabotage equipment if you think it's useful… Be discreet though. There's a few cameras."
But just before he started to disassemble the computer, Claire stopped him:
"Wait. Turn on the computer and try René Descartes, René, or Descartes for the password. One of the three, I don't remember which, was the password for his computer in the labs back on Nublar."
"I'll try them. Thanks for the info."
Guillaume started the computer and Claire saw a baseball bat near Maya's desk. She grabbed it, came out of the room with Owen and near the elevator, halfway between the offices and the laboratory, the couple also saw a small cabinet containing a fire axe but they did not take it in order to avoid arousing too much suspicion if the CCTV footage were retransmitted to a station located in another part of the manor.
Using the badge of the scientist whose lab coat he had stolen, Owen managed to open the door to the lab proper and he and his betrothed entered the long room, turning on their flashlights as they entered. They walked around it, past blank video screens, microscopes, various machines, and eggs incubating in wheeled incubators. Rummaging through a drawer, they found an X-ray image of the Indoraptor's skull and naturally, they pulled it out and lit it up to take a picture. At the far end of the lab were two large cylindrical vats serving as development matrices, and tall freezers with shelves laden with embryos.
Owen found a pair of insulating gloves and opened one of the freezers. As big as a small wardrobe, it was filled from base to top with shelves containing reagents and liquids in plastic bags. On the side, the couple saw a small cooler with a heavy ceramic door. The Raptor Whisperer opened it and a tray with tubes appeared in a white cloud of liquid nitrogen.
The embryos were classified by species: Allosaurus, Pteranodon, Argentinosaurus, Inostrancevia, Stygimoloch, Pectinodon… Each was contained in a thin glass tube wrapped in aluminium foil and closed with a stopper.
"Pectinodon?" Owen asked aloud, taking one of the embryos. "Fuck…"
Claire looked carefully at the different names.
"I don't see any Indoraptor among them. Do you?"
"No."
She took a picture of the embryos then looked at them again. Finding no Indoraptor embryos, she took those of the pectinodons, dropped them to the ground and then stomped on them.
"You're lucky that some goody two-shoes didn't see you do that," Owen said.
She then looked up at the one he was holding.
"Let's keep this one," she said. "It might be useful for the WDMC."
Her betrothed put the tube away in one of his lab coat's pockets.
"I'm sure they have Indoraptor embryos or at least samples," Claire said after turning back to the rest of the lab. "But where are they?"
"Maybe in some kind of hidden safe," Owen theorized.
"Yeah. But where would it be?"
At the same time, a black SUV and a tank truck stopped at the top of the ridge which overlooked the basin and its enclosures, beyond the estate's eastern borders. The SUV pulled up first, turning around before pulling to the side of the forest track, and Jeremy Rankin, Dorian Faraday, Marion Grewal, and Adrian Bentley emerged, fully dressed in black and armed. A little further down the track, the tank truck stopped and William McSweeney and Erik Scherrer got out, coming to join their companions near the SUV. Rankin checked his phone, put it away, and after looking at McSweeney and Scherrer and giving them a nod, he stalked off the track, followed by Faraday, Grewal, and Adrian, leaving the logistician and scientist to the vehicles.
While the three British mercenaries and the ex-InGen Security employee made their way through the evergreens, descending the ridge towards the basin more than five hundred meters ahead, McSweeney pulled out a cell phone and sent the following message to a number of contacts:
R 4 Sol Do Mi? Wait 6gnal!
Mills, Torres, and Maya's car drove through the camp's gate and crossed it, heading for the predator enclosures. When they arrived in front of the acrocanthosaurs', they saw several keepers and guards gathered near the gate and at the base of the stairs which led to the platform on the top of the wall. On it, they were surprised to see Susan Lynton accompanied by two security guards. Angered, the InGen CEO watched the new arrivals get out of their vehicle and reach the stairs.
"Come up! Come admire the disaster!" She shouted at them.
Followed by Mills and Torres, Maya raced up the stairs and when she reached the platform and approached the railing, she burst into tears.
"No no!"
The manager of the Lockwood Foundation and the director of InGen Security arrived at her level and saw the two acrocanthosaurs devouring the remains of the Indoraptor. Unable to bear this vision of horror, the trainer looked away.
"Who did that?" Lynton asked Mills sternly.
"I don't know. Why are you looking at me and not Edward too?"
"Because the criminals on the loose in the estate you manage learned about the transfer one way or another, and had plenty of time to lay out an ambush. Do you have any idea of who the culprits could be?"
"Uh…"
"Mr. Vuillier left the marquee shortly before the dinner break and hasn't returned since," she told him. "Where is he?"
"I don't know."
"I'm sure he has something to do with it. I have heard of three wrongdoers. Who could the other two be?"
Mills paled and Torres cleared his throat.
"Eli, no more lies!" InGen's CEO scolded him.
"It's Owen Grady and Claire Dearing," Maya said suddenly, saying the name of the former head of the IBRIS program as if it was that of a stranger.
Lynton turned to her.
"They're here?!" She asked, surprised.
She looked back at the manager of the Lockwood Foundation and the director of InGen Security.
"Why did you bring them here, you nitwits?! Were all the warehouses in the Bay Area taken?! Or even better, you could have settled their case in the bloody Sierra Nevada!"
"Elijah asked me to bring them here," Torres told him.
The other man glared at him and Lynton sighed.
"We are going to pass for losers in the eyes of Mrs. De Mafart and her superiors! We can say goodbye to our contract with them! Unless…"
The businesswoman's face lit up.
"We may have a temporary solution," she said.
She explained her idea to them and then added:
"Call Wu. If he could help your guys implement this plan B, that would be great."
Mills pulled out his phone and dialled the geneticist's number.
Busy dancing with his colleagues, Wu didn't hear his phone ringing. Not only had he put it on the speaker's coffee table, but the music coming out of it was too loud. His mind having been clouded by the alcohol and the song being catchy, the geneticist did not even want to check his phone.
"He is not answering!" Mills muttered after several attempts.
He put his phone away and Lynton sighed.
"We'll do without him."
They then headed for the camp's exit.
"Edward. Go help your men and Eli's," InGen's CEO ordered the director of the security division.
"I'm going with them!" Maya suddenly declared loudly. "Give me a weapon!"
One of the accompanying guards handed her a gun and once they crossed the gate, they separated, Torres and Maya going one way, and Lynton and Mills the other.
"So actually, there is a mechanical problem with the truck. They need to replace one of the pieces," one of the southern gate's sentries announced. "I'm afraid you'll have to wait a little bit more. If you want, you can go to the marquee in the meantime. They have a buffet…"
"Non mais tu te fous de ma gueule, connard?!" De Mafart exclaimed, exasperated.
"Mrs?" The guard asked, surprised by this sudden outburst of anger.
"We should already be gone! Clearly, even the fucking SNCF is more punctual than InGen!" She said.
"Calm down, Sophie. Calm…," Prieur told her softly in her ear piece. "Go see Lynton, Torres and Mills if you want but keep your cool. Your mission have been carried out flawlessly so far. Don't ruin it by insulting them."
But De Mafart could not calm down. She looked at her colleague.
"Stay there Christian."
The DGSE agent then headed for the gate. One of the sentries raised his hand.
"Relax, Mrs, we've got the situation under control," he said. "No need to…"
But she drew her pistol, glared at him, and said:
"I am an agent of the French Republic's secret services! Get out of my way, you tocard!"
Caught off guard, the sentry remained frozen and not knowing what to do, he turned to his colleague. The latter shook his head gently, telling him not to act against her. They parted, letting her through the gate and follow the road into the estate. As soon as she was far enough, they would notify Torres, Mills and their colleagues.
Following the orders that had just been transmitted to him, the guard left with the truck got into it, started the engine and headed for the tunnel while it had started to get dark.
Crouching in the thicket near its entrance, Wheatley saw the truck arrive, its driver get out and reveal a hidden box. While he entered a code, the mercenary dialled a new message on his phone, informing his men of the opening box's precise location. The hidden gate opened, Wheatley put away his phone and the guard went back into the cabin. The truck drove off, rushing down the tunnel, but just before the gate closed, the mercenary slipped through the opening and immediately disappeared into the shadows, trotting after the truck.
Standing behind the control station on the other side of the bunker, Arlene, one of the revellers, was watching the couple in the lab. The low light and the distance preventing her from realizing that it was not her two colleagues but two intruders, she was not really worried. However, she deemed it appropriate to warn the others and therefore turned back, returning to the gym and the party, then lulled by the song Anything goes from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. She walked towards the nearest group, consisting of Nicole, Giles and Karim.
"There's no doubt about it, being located within the Emerald Triangle has its advantages…" Nicole said, taking a joint of cannabis away from her mouth.
"Guys. Vlad and Vanessa are in the lab," Arlene announced.
"Are they doing things?" Giles asked.
Nearby, a voice laughed:
"Things? Is she giving him a blowjob?"
"But he has a girlfriend!" another pointed out.
"And?"
"I thought we were clear! We don't touch the lab in the evening of the fiesta!" Ivan interjected, worried by the news.
"Did they seem to be drunk or not?" Someone asked Arlene.
"Oddly no," she replied. "They looked like they were looking for something."
"Ah Vlad… He always wants to work…"
"Let's join them," one of the drunken geneticists suggested. "His girlfriend will owe us one."
He turned to the other revellers.
"Basements' tour?!" he asked.
"Basements' tour!" The others answered in unison, with some raising their drinks.
"Come on everyone! Conga! Bring the music, David!"
Deserting the gymnasium, all of the revellers, including a tipsy Henry Wu, formed a conga and made their way towards the bunker to the beat of the music from the speaker carried by David.
"Chu! Choo!" The one in the lead shouted, imitating a locomotive.
"Go Marcel!" One of his colleagues encouraged him.
Although they were not the most discreet due to the degree of intoxication of some but especially the music, their arrival initially surprised Guillaume and the couple. The WDMC director, then busy copying data from Wu's computer to his USB key after successfully logging in using one of the passwords provided by Claire, was the first to hear them and fearing to be seen, he hid behind the desk and warned the couple by SMS.
In the lab, Claire and Owen were staring at one of the walls, where an old poster of Peter Jackson's Braindead hung, when they received the text message.
They're coming
The couple turned around and saw the revellers' conga about to exit the control room.
"Dammit!" Owen growled.
His betrothed had a different opinion though. She smirked.
"No, it's perfect... That dish called revenge has cooled down enough," she said when she saw Wu near the conga's front.
After hiding the baseball bat behind one of the partitions that lined the laboratory, she went to position herself near a large table in the middle, equipped with computer screens and microscopes. While the conga marched down the catwalk, heading for the locker room to the beat of the song Where there's a whip, there's a way from Arthur Rankin Jr and Jules Bass' The Return of the King, she succinctly explained her plan to Owen.
Once the conga had passed the door of the office-relaxation area, Guillaume silently opened the door and came to join it, putting himself at the very back. One of those in front of him turned around and saw the Proceratosaurus mask he was wearing.
"Yo, Judas!" He greeted him, shouting to be heard over the music from David's speaker, positioned in the middle of the conga.
The WDMC director replied with a nod and prayed that he wouldn't be recognized until it was too late. Fortunately, the revellers were too distracted and their senses dulled by fatigue, alcohol or drugs. As the conga's head was about to reach the lab's door, he hoped no one entered the offices and discovered his backpack and flash drive, still attached to Wu's computer, continuing to copy data.
"Okay guys! We go get Vlad and Vanessa then we go up to the conference room. Be careful when you're in the lab. Breaker, payer!" Ivan reminded them.
The one at the head of the conga opened the door and turned on the lights in the lab, revealing who they believed to be Vlad and Vanessa near the table in the centre of the room. The line of revellers moved deeper into the lab, heading to them.
"Vanessa! Vlad! Can you tell us what you are doing here?" Someone asked teasingly.
They didn't answer and the woman in the Indominus mask was looking towards the entrance, which Judas, or rather Guillaume, was going to cross shortly. The revellers noticed that she hid her right arm behind the back of her Neoraptor-masked companion.
Just after crossing the threshold, Guillaume closed the door behind him and stayed, letting his predecessor in the conga leave him behind. As the conga's head was almost at their level, Owen moved to position himself between it and the door leading to the mezzanine. Suddenly, Claire climbed onto the table, drew her pistol, pointed it towards the ceiling and shouted:
"Party is over bitches!"
Realizing that the voice of the woman above them was not Vanessa's, several of the revellers froze and stared at her warily and worriedly. One of the geneticists, whose face was hidden behind a Dilophosaurus mask, was so startled that he squeezed his goblet between his hands, splashing punch on his clothes and the floor. Another lowered the sound from the speaker.
"What the hell?! Who are you?!" One of the InGen employees asked in an alarmed tone.
"The ghost of Christmas past," she answered in a deep voice.
Noticing that the hand holding the gun was a prosthetic, they realized it was the fallen director of Jurassic World, their former boss. Wu froze, unable to take his eyes off his enemy.
Claire… What is she doing here?! How did she find out about this place?! Susan and Ed had assured me that I had nothing to fear from her and Grady!
She removed her Indominus mask, revealing her scarred face, and added:
"Mommy is home and she's very angry!"
They turned toward the exits but found them barred by Owen and Guillaume, who had also drawn their weapons and taken off their masks.
"Everyone keep calm!" The WDMC director said with authority. "If you remain calm and cooperate, everything will be fine."
Recognizing his voice, Wu turned and glared at him.
"Mr. Vuillier, what the hell is going on?! I knew you were going to take action against me, but I didn't expect you to ally with this... madwoman. You are making a big mistake!"
"The madwoman salutes you, Henry!" Claire told him from the top of her table.
His two accomplices then approached the InGen employees.
"Empty your pockets!" Owen hissed, gesturing to one of the counters before grabbing the baseball bat Claire had hidden earlier.
"Take off your masks first! I want to see your faces!" His betrothed demanded curtly. "And put the speaker on this table."
One of the geneticists took off his horse mask and turned to his colleagues.
"You heard them, lads. Drop the masks! We must cooperate… I value my life."
Karim looked at the hostage takers.
"We're willing to cooperate if you promise to not be trigger-happy...," he begged them.
"Bringing firearms into the lab is a stupid thing to do!" Giles clarified.
"Why?" Claire inquired.
Karim pointed at two tanks in a corner.
"Do you see the tanks over there? If a stray bullet punctures them, not only will it cause an explosion which will blow the lab and us with it if we haven't cleared off, but all the contained gas will leak out. The entire bunker will become a gas chamber!" he explained. "It would be nice if we could avoid making a reference to the darkest hours of our history..."
"You really had to make a Godwin point?" Nicole asked him.
Guillaume approached the tanks, studied them attentively and turned to his accomplices.
"He's right."
He and the couple checked the safety of their guns and then Claire motioned for Owen to pass her the baseball bat.
"We don't need firearms to force you to cooperate…" she said, weighing it.
"She has Molly…" one of the hostages whispered, looking at the bat.
Under the watchful eyes of the three hostage takers, the revellers placed their masks and the contents of their pockets on the counter which Owen had designated. He then ordered them to go into a space between two partitions along the south wall.
"Claire Dearing and Owen Grady being hostage takers? This is absurd! I will have seen everything!" One of their hostages exclaimed.
But the keeper grabbed his arm firmly.
"We're not in the mood now so do as we say!" He growled before pushing him further.
"But why?" Nicole asked.
"Guess. I think they know about the Indoraptor…," Karim whispered to her.
"It's not just that," Owen said.
Once all the revellers had gathered in the designated space, Guillaume approached Claire.
"I have to go and check the data's copying," he told her. "You can handle them in the meantime?"
"I think so," Claire replied confidently.
While looking at their hostages, the WDMC director nodded gently.
"Just one thing: Don't act like Jack Bauer," he asked her. "No murder or torture. He must be able to stand on his legs in order to appear in court."
"And to be a hostage," Owen added, keeping his mother and son in mind.
"Understood," Claire said. "No murder or torture..."
Guillaume left the laboratory and returned to the offices. The fallen park director turned up the sound on the speaker of David, whose iPod was among the effects piled up on the counter. She then looked at the geneticists.
"Henry! Come!" she barked.
With great hesitation, Wu stepped forward but deeming him too slow, Owen grabbed him and brought him to her.
"You can't let her do that," the geneticist told the Raptor Whisperer
"We must think of the common good. And you're threatening it. Moreover, InGen took something very precious from us…"
Owen brought him two or three meters from his betrothed and turned to watch the other revellers.
"It's been a while, hasn't it?" Claire asked Wu while slowly approaching him with a wicked smile on her face. "When did we last see each other? Ah yes, at that meeting right after the Battle of Burroughs, where InGen threw me in the gutter... You had the chance to leave Nublar before things really got out of hand, before I learned the truth about the Indominus… Tonight luck has turned away from you."
She landed a punch in his face, knocking him back a step or two.
"That's for the Indominus!"
She grabbed him then gave him another blow.
"That's for the Indoraptor!"
She then punched him in the abdomen.
"That's for participating in the slander campaign against me!"
With her knee, she gave him a powerful blow in the crotch.
"And that's for raping me!"
In pain, Wu fell and lay on his side. Several of his subordinates let out a cry of surprise.
".. Wait what…?" Nicole stammered.
Claire turned to them and clarified:
"The rape was not physical but it's still odious nonetheless!"
"But what are you talking about?" one of the geneticists asked.
The fallen park director came to them, roughly grabbed Ivan by the arm and led him to Wu. She positioned the young geneticist in front of his boyfriend, closed her prosthetic hand around the back of his neck and with her other hand, she grabbed a scalpel lying nearby and brought it to Ivan's face.
"Tell them, Henry. Tell them about the Chimpanzee DNA's origin! Or I'll cut his pretty face!"
Forced to cooperate, Wu nodded with difficulty while blood dripped from the corner of his mouth, but just as he opened his mouth, his boyfriend suddenly spoke up:
"I took your DNA. Not him!"
Wu shook his head sharply.
"Her DNA?" One of their colleagues repeated in a wary tone.
Claire grimaced.
"You're trying to cover him… No need, you confessed during the Fall."
"You told me I was lying," Ivan reminded her. "You were right…."
She said nothing for a moment, then shoved him forward, knocking him to the ground next to Wu. Ivan barely had time to turn around when Claire rested the end of the bat on his shoulder.
"I'm listening," she hissed.
Ivan took a deep breath and explained:
"I wanted to avenge his honor after you humiliated him in front of Masrani, Mountbatten and the others with that friends' circle joke. Do you remember the party at Alfred's, two months after you became director and one after the launch of the Indominus project?"
"I remember it," she replied. "I was so tired that I fell asleep in the living room, so deeply that assholes were able to put an entire array of ridiculous accessories on me and take pictures. Probably Ahmad and Janet… If I'm not mistaken, you were also at this party, without Henry, who…"
"Was then in the United States, to settle a family matter. The next day, didn't you notice that a lock of your hair was missing?"
Remembering that was indeed the case, Claire gave a barely perceptible nod.
"I cut it while everyone was in the garden or in the pool," the young geneticist added. "I also took the opportunity to take saliva. I then took the samples to the lab, processed them, and labeled them as Chimpanzee DNA shipped from Palo Alto. I told Henry about its true nature only later, long after he decided to include Chimpanzee DNA to increase the Indominus' intelligence as required by Project Wagner's bill of specifications. It was too late…"
"I told you that this chimpanzee story was hiding something…" Karim whispered to Giles and Nicole.
The latter called out Ivan.
"Seriously, man?! Human DNA? I get the point of moving rocks, I get the point of caressing a cheek, I get the point of killing someone but I don't get the point of adding human DNA to a dinosaur. No, but that's ridiculous..."
"You acted like a mad scientist, and for what? A stupid revenge story?" Giles added.
He looked at him and Wu.
"It's your fault if the Indominus ended up becoming the dinosaurian version of the Joker!" he exclaimed.
Claire glared at Ivan.
"I should have thrown you off my balcony when I had the chance," she said coldly.
She sighed then added:
"Nice try, but your revelation doesn't change anything, Ivan. Henry did nothing to fix your fuckery. I consider him just as guilty as you."
They were interrupted by the ringing of a telephone, some kind of funk music, totally cheesy to the ears of the fallen park director. This ringtone, actually the 14th track of the soundtrack from the Japanese film Legend of Dinosaurs & Monster Birds, came from the group of geneticists and Claire noticed that one of them, a brown-haired, angular-faced man in his early thirties, had frozen. She grinned.
"Mr. Tenold, your phone please…" she asked in a calm but no less menacing voice.
Hesitantly, the geneticist pulled his phone out of his pocket and handed it to Owen, who put it with the others.
Wu groaned.
"You came to destroy the Indoraptor research. Time is running out for you…," he said. "Mills and Torres' men will eventually show up. You are surrounded."
"Let them come! Let them see that I have the great Professor Wu at my mercy and that I'm holding InGen by its balls!" Claire exclaimed. "You see Henry, you are more useful to me alive than dead. While waiting for their arrival, let's talk about the Indoraptor..."
It was then that David's iPod started playing a new song, whose first lyrics were soon heard:
Sodomy…
You must think is very odd of me.
That I enjoy the act of sodomy.
You might call the wrath of God on me.
…
Recognizing the song Sodomy from the film Meet the Feebles, Claire smirked, finding it appropriate for the occasion, as her, Owen and Guillaume Vuillier just sodomized InGen by killing the Indoraptor.
"Her name was... Elsa, wasn't it?"
The geneticists nodded.
"Don't tell me you named her after Elsa from Frozen?" Claire asked them.
"No, we named her after Elsa Lanchester, the lead actress in The Bride of Frankenstein."
"Ah, I'm reassured! You'd still have some good taste left after all... A pity, it was a pretty name."
"Was?" One of the geneticists repeated.
A fear gripped their hearts.
"If they found that lab…" Nicole began flatly.
"What did you do with her?" Wu asked the couple gravely.
"Oh, we took her for a walk," Claire replied casually. "Unfortunately, she went over a cliff edge and she became dinner for the dinosaurs."
At the same time, the song began a chorus:
…
Let me tell you about the act of sodomy.
You must think it's very odd of me
That I enjoy the act of sodomy.
...
"God…" Giles huffed.
"Monsters!" Nicole insulted them.
"Maya will kill you and it will be justice!" Karim warned them.
"To say that you created her secretly in that rotten cabin in Burgo Nuevo just for her to have a death which would make those of Snoke in The Last Jedi and of the Night King in the last season of Game of Thrones pale in comparison. Subverting expectations is bliss!" Claire said.
"But…but she was born here," Giles said.
"Shut your mouth you idiot!" Karim hissed.
"We saw the claw marks," Owen added. "We are certain that an Indoraptor was born in Costa Rica."
"Oh for fuck's sake…" Claire sighed, suddenly realizing the implications of Giles' revelation.
"Tell me, you're good at Uno?" Karim asked her snidely. "Because I think the good Lord just put a "reverse" card on the table."
Claire took a deep breath, then, as calmly as possible, asked:
"How many Indoraptors did you create?"
While Karim shrugged his shoulders, grinned stupidly and held back a laugh, as the ingested pieces of space cake started to take effect, the song continued:
…and try it front-to-bum!
Bum-bum!
Bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum-bum
Sodomy...
After making sure there was no one on the lower level of the bunker, Ken Wheatley entered it, sneaking towards the door to his right. Behind him, under the truck parked in front of the platform, the driver lay lifeless, with a reddish band on his neck, the mark of the wire used by the mercenary leader to strangle him.
Cautiously, Wheatley opened the door to the Dungeon and entered, stepping between a large freezer and two large lockers. The place was quite dark, with only a few old light bulbs lighting it dimly and one of them no longer working. It reminded Wheatley of some of the hideouts and bases of operations he and his men had used on their missions.
Farther down, under the unlit light bulb and right next to the cell Maisie had stood against the previous day, were two guards. One of them was carrying a tranquilizer gun. Hearing him, they turned.
"Hey! You have no right to be here!" One of them called out, not recognizing him. "Please…"
But before he could finish his sentence, Wheatley drew a pistol, hitherto hidden under his jacket, and shot him and his colleague dead. His weapon being equipped with a silencer, the sound of the shots was attenuated and the walls of the Dungeon being thick, the geneticists and the couple above hardly heard it and did not really pay attention to it. However, something hissed in displeasure in response to the noise. The mercenary pricked up his ears and knew the hiss was coming from the cell. After smirking, he approached it.
"Here you are…"
Inside the cell, an Indoraptor stirred, starting to bite the bars. Wheatley looked at the black creature in amazement.
"Damn... I was told that you were quite something but I didn't imagine that..."
The predator raised its head and let out a kind of bark, similar to that of a raptor calling its pack.
Wheatley picked up the tranquilizer gun, pointed it straight at the Indoraptor, and it reacted violently, roaring and biting the bars. The mercenary fired a first dart, which went to stick in the monster's neck, then another. The hybrid continued to roar.
"You're kind of a hot-rod," Wheatley said, impressed.
Just as he was about to fire a third dart, the Indoraptor suddenly collapsed to the ground. His breathing became weaker as he slipped into unconsciousness.
When he had just found the key to the cell on the body of one of the guards, Wheatley heard a kind of moan. It was coming from his left, from beyond the door at the end of the aisle. The mercenary turned his head in that direction for a moment.
It must be the other one, the failed prototype they made in Costa Rica...
He shook his head slightly and brought his eyes back to the animal in front of him.
He's my objective.
The mercenary looked at his watch and waited a little longer before entering the cage.
