Chapter 14 Avarice

Nero had just entered the bank lobby, when Lady came down in the elevator. The two hunters went over to the vault door and swiped their key cards. The vault opened and the two of them went inside. The vault was full of stacks of money, gold, jewels, statues, paintings, expensive appliances, antique furniture, various other antiques, collectible, comic, toys, and trading cards, Cuban cigars, bottles of wine, and other odd and expensive objects.
"Looks like we got ourselves a hoarder." Said Nero.
It was then the hoarder of the vault jumped down from a stack of goods and landed before Nero and Lady. It was Avarice himself. Avarice was the creature that resembled a goblin with grey skin, curved horns, and wore ratty red rags that had appeared in the bank, when the Seven Deadly Sins and the demons first appeared and overtook Silverburg. The demon now sported some spiked armored gauntlets, some bling on his horns, and a ridiculously large bag that was nearly twice his size, which had various odd objects sticking out of it including spears, swords, and a couple of decaying human business wearing expensive business suits. The amulet that could capture and contain the Sins was strapped to the demon's waist.
"Some people have no appreciation for the finer things in life. Hunters. Welcome to my hall of treasures. Unfortunately, you forgot to pay the entrance fee... your life." Said Avarice eyeing the two hunters.
"I take it you're Avarice." Said Lady.
"Guilty as the very sin, I represent." Said Avarice.
"Well we're here to put an end to your little hoarding." Said Nero.
Avarice sniffed the air and scowled at Nero.
"I smell the putrid stench of Sparda from you! You're a descendant of him!"
"Guilty as charged, now why don't you just surrender. I bet you know how this is going to play out. A repeat of history." Said Nero as he pulled out his sword.
"Maybe, but I'm one hell of a gambler and a stubborn one at that! I'll take my chances!" Said Avarice before he moved forward with a incredible amount of speed and punched Nero in the chest sending him flying back.
Avarice turned to Lady and swung at her, but she ducked his swing and fired a few shots into his head face causing the demon to yell and stumble back. Nero recovered and leaped at Avarice swinging his sword, but Avarice leaped back to one of his loot towers. Avarice stuck his hand into the pile and yanked some random junk out of it. The junk pile shuddered and began to topple towards Nero and Lady.
"Timber!" Yelled Avarice.
Nero and Lady dove to the sides to avoid being crushed. Avarice picked up a horned cattle skull and leaped at Nero swinging it. Nero blocked it with his sword.
"What's the deal with the skull?" Asked Nero.
"I stole it from a steakhouse." Said Avarice.
"You really are a creep." Said Nero.
"Hey one man's trash is another man's treasure. Also I think I'm making good use of it." Said Avarice as he shoved Nero back.
"Speaking of treasure, I made a good use of some of yours." Said Lady as she appeared on another pile holding a wine bottle with a burning rag stuffed in it.
It was a makeshift Molotov cocktail. Lady chucked the bottle at Avarice and it shattered at his feet setting the demon on fire! Avarice roared in pain as he dropped the skull and batted at the flames. Nero rushed forward and delivered a few sword slices to Avarice, extinguishing the flames, and sending the demon crashing into another pile of junk. Avarice recovered as Nero rushed him again and blocked the sword swing with his gauntlets, before he delivered a headbutt to Nero's face knocking him. The demon then leaped with surprising grace towards the tower Lady was on. Lady fired a few bullets into Avarice, before dodging out of the way of his landing to avoid getting crushed by the demon.
Lady tried to put some distance between herself and Avarice, but the demon grabbed her by her left leg and hurled her through the air. Luckily, Lady ended up crashing into a mattress and though she wasn't seriously hurt the impact still knocked the wind out of her and left her stunned. Avarice reached into the pile and pulled out a refrigerator.
"I stole this from Best Buy!" Yelled Avarice as he leaped off the pile and smashed the refrigerator down towards Nero, who dodged out of the way.
"You seriously have a problem." Said Nero as he struck at Avarice, who blocked the attack with the refrigerator.
"Oh please, I exist in everyone since the very beginning. All humans want something, even you." Said Avarice as he swung the refrigerator at Nero, who jumped over the blow.
"That's true. Humans want things, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's the actual reason behind the want that counts." Said Nero as he drew his gun and fired a few rounds into Avarice's head and chest causing the demon to yell and reel back.
Lady recovered, pulled out her rocket launcher, and fired a rocket at Avarice. The rocket struck the refrigerator and exploded sending Avarice flying and landing near another tower. Lady fired a rocket at the tower and it collapsed right on top of Avarice! For several seconds everything was silent and then Avarice burst from the pile with burns, bruises, and scratches on his body. Avarice grabbed a bathtub and charged at Nero swinging it. Nero countered it with his sword.
"I stole this from Lows!" Yelled Avarice.
"I honestly don't care." Said Nero as he struck the bathtub a few times and it shattered to bits.
Nero delivered a few strikes to Avarice knocking him back. Avarice began to pick up random junk and hurl them at Nero, who batted them away. These objects included a dresser, some tires, a couch, chairs, and a kitchen sink. Nero reached Avarice and rammed his sword through his chest.
"I...lost...the gamble!" Gasped Avarice as Nero pulled his sword out and the demon collapsed to the ground dead.
Nero pulled the amulet off of Avarice's body and pointed it at him. Avarice's body turned into energy and was sucked into the amulet.
"One less sin to deal with." Said Lady as she joined Nero.
"Guess we'll deal with Lust next." Said Nero.
The two hunters left the vault to continue with their quest.
