-Good morning, master Bruce. Oh, I see you didn't even try to sleep.
-No time, Alfred - Bruce was staring at the computer screens on his laboratory desk. His eyes were red and it's been fifty hours since he tried to save Clyde. The guy didn't survive a deadly shot and died in the office. He gave Batman a password and login to his phone and the app created by Evan and now Batman was trying to break into this app. As he expected Clyde was deleted from that app the minute he got his shot to the back but Batman had luck to recover some of last messages and couple of names.
He learned that Clyde was supposed to meet with somebody that night but a man never showed up. Clyde figured out he was about to be killed and left for the safest place he could think of - his work office but it didn't save him. He was just a small government clerk but Evan needed support of all orphans who were working for the city government. Running the city was a no easy task and when Clyde refused to help or expressed his concerns Evan couldn't risk to leak his operation and decided to kill Clyde. Who knew maybe there were more people who stood up against his plan but sure enough they all got eliminated. The city government at that time totally belong to Evan he terrorized the regular workers not orphans and those people quit saving their lives. But there was something Batman was afraid more than anything and something he couldn't stop.
-Sir, I have something to say.
-Say it, Alfred. - Bruce didn't move from his desk.
-I think we should move back to the homestead outside of the city. It's getting dangerous we do not have a concierge in our building anymore. He was an orphan and joined to his friends, police don't have time to go to every call so I figured we should lock our penthouse and move back, sir.
-I think you definitely should do it, Alfred. The Bat cave under the house is much more better than what I have here. Also, you going to be more useful for me over there. I got inside of an app and trying to get any information I can but I need a better and faster computer. You go to the homestead and keep an eye on the running program if it gives you any results you should tell me right away.
-I understand, sir.
-I have to be in the city. I have to be outside because any moment something can go wrong.
-As you wish, sir. The winter is coming and you should talk to Fox about your equipment. It's time to change for the winter. Would you like some breakfast before my departure, sir?
-No time for breakfast. Get me a fresh newspaper and a cup of coffee.
-Shortly, master Bruce.
Alfred left to the kitchen and Bruce Wayne finally stopped staring at the computer screen and did some physical exercise next to the window.
Snow. There was first snow outside. Falling from the sky it made view unclear even more. The green fog was still covering the city even though police stopped all fountains which emitted poisonous chemicals. Winds this time of the year avoided this part of the state and the city struggled with pollutions every year but this time it was ten times worse.
What's next there should be connection or some ending point to all of this. "Why to do those killings with notes? Why to set up all those fountains and then blow up bridges and while still killing people. It's like madness and it seems like Evan doesn't know what he wants. If he wants only orphans to survive why pollute the air for all citizens. If he wants just to kill people why bother with blowing up bridges or again fountains … it's a mess" - thinking about Evan and his next step Bruce didn't notice Alfred with coffee and a newspaper.
-Sir! It's terrible! Look at this! He is controlling newspapers. I brought all of them for you to see!
But Bruce already knew about it because he always checked city news online and it was obvious people supported Evan and published articles such as "Gotham is rising" , "All power to those who was forgotten" , "Gotham is a new republic" and many more. All of them were saying about new government and new way of living as no killings and horrors were happening. In the same time the national news were screaming about the occupied by terrorists Gotham city but federal government couldn't do much about it. Anyway Evan wasn't just getting words out and he actually started to do things in the city as a new governor. First thing he did was announcing that the whole subway system was free of charge. It was very liberating for people who were already angry with subway tariffs. Many people joined to the recruitment for the police force for the subway. Evan made it as a separate unit from the police department which he still couldn't take over but people were very encouraged to take care of a subway order especially when it became free. Functions were simple - maintain the order and peace underground for people of the city. His next step was reconstruction of subway lines and reopening old schools and orphanages because it was needed badly for the last five years. Social media was full of videos and pictures of regular people joining Evan's new city agenda. "It's unbelievable how fast people choosing sides in this game! There are hundreds of dead souls on his hands but Gothamites seem like supporting him anyway. Why? I need to stop it and I need help of Gordon" - Bruce took one sip of coffee when his special "only for Gordon" phone rang.
-What is it Gordon. - thinking that he maybe late with asking for Gordon's help Bruce picked up the phone.
-Batman! Police! We need your help! Our own people turned on us and arrested each department in the city! They switching police force with Black Gate prisoners! Many is dead! Orphans who serve for police betrayed us and many folks joined them but those who refused… they taking us to the Black Gate! You are the only hope… - the line went quiet.
No time to rest and no time to even breathe.
-Alfred! I need you go to the estate and do not leave the bat cave until my system cracks that app of Evan's and you get me any information it gives you! - said Batman leaving the penthouse.
-Where are you going master Bruce! You didn't sleep for two days!
-I have to help this city. I am the only hope.
