13. Chapter13:Fullmetal and Flower VS Flame

Isabella's POV

It was raining in East City, and the three of us arrived at the Eastern Command Center gate. "Well, we're here."Ed said to us. "Yeah." Al said to him as he sighs. "What's the matter?" I asked him. "What do you think is the matter? Once again Isabella and I will have to listen to Colonel Sarcasm. Tell us how we screwed up." Ed said to her when he starts imitating Mustang."Struck out on the Philosopher's Stone again, huh? How am I supposed to keep funding this goose chase? Money doesn't grow on trees there, chiefs. Ed? Isabella? Where'd you two run off to? Oh wait, there you two are! I couldn't see the two of you there behind my paperwork, seeing as how you two are so short and all." Ed said while imitating Mustang and the two of us sweat-dropped and he started laughing and stopped imitating him.

"I know. We're already here so we may as well get the verbal abuse over with. Let's go." Ed said. " , Al?" I called when we noticed there was one from our side. "Hey, Al?" Ed called while looking around. I looked over looking around also. But then we turned to see him by the alley getting something. "Al!" Ed and I called when he stood up. "Coming, brother!" Al said. As he ran back to us."What are you up to?" Ed questioned him as he giggles. But then we hear someone screaming inside the Command Center, and the three of us looked puzzled by all of this. "What was that?" I questioned that scream.

"Humankind cannot gain anything, without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth."

Riza's POV

Breda was freaking out like crazy and Havoc and I looked confused by all of this when Falman came up. "What's the problem, Breda?" Havoc asked him. "Havoc, be careful! It's on the loose! There's nothingprotecting us! Over there! Over there!" Breda said pointing to what's behind us. We turned to see a little puppythere on the floor. "Care to explain this, Falman?" I said to him. "It is a dog, Lieutenant. Carnivorous Canine Mammal. I believe the scientific name is-" I cut him off. "That's not what I'm asking, Falman. You need to loosen up." I said to him as he salutes. "Yes sir, Lieutenant Hawkeye. I will continue to work on that." Falman said when Fuery came in and picked upthe dog. "Sorry, sirs. I found him this morning. He was all on his own." Fuery said to us. "M.S. G. Fuery!" Falmansaid. "So, you gonna keep him?" Havoc asked him when Fuery stood up. "I wish I could, Lieutenant Havoc. Butas I'm sure you're aware, there are no pets allowed in the NCO living quarters." Fuery said to him. "Well, thatcertainly doesn't mean you can keep him in the office, Kain." I said to him.

"I know it, I just... he was shivering out in the rain, and I felt sorry for him. You're higher-ups, you can keep him." Fuery said to us, but Falman passes on that. "Not me, I'm in the dorms, too." Falman said to him. Then he turns to a freaked out Breda. "No way. I hate those beasts." Breda said to him all freaked out. But then Havoc took the dog out of his arms. "Don't worry. I'll take him off your hands. I like dogs." Havoc said to him. "Thank you, Lieutenant. He's really sweet." Fuery said to him. "Sure, I hear they're good when stir-fried. A few spices..." Havoc trailed off when Fury started to freak out. "Yes, sir, here in the east, they raise 'em as a delicacy, especially these plump ones." Havoc said when I took the dog from him and gave him back to Fuery.

"Let's try to find him a better owner, okay?" I said to him. "Good plan." Fuery said to me. "Please, it was a joke." Havoc said when the dog starts barking, and the door opens to reveal the Elric brothers, Rockbell at the door. "So, uh... Should we come back later?" Isabella questioned when I faced them. "Hey Edward, Isabella, Alphonse! I guess this mean you're back." I said to them as they nodded. But then a meow was heard and Al started to freak out, while the rest of us looked confused by all of this. "Strange." I said out of confusion when Ed faced the two. "Excuse me. The three of us need to talk." Ed said while Grabbing Al. "Edward, Isabella, I believe you two have reports to make." I called when Isabella came in and salute to me. "Thanks for the reminder, sir, Ed and I will speak to the Colonel now." Isabella said to me as she leaves.

Isabella's POV

The three of us are in the hallway and Al has a cat in his armor. "Al, be rational. We don't have the means to take care of it. You can't just go picking up any stray you see." Ed said to him while petting thecat. "It's not any stray. He called to us. He's wet and hungry. Can't we keep him?" Al asked him. As Ed and I started to go mad at them. "No, guys! Now go put it backwhere you found it!" Ed and I said to them all together as the two look like they're going to cry. "Jerk!" Al cried when he tossed us aside and run off.

"I hate you, brother and Isa! You two not even human!" Al cried while running off, and Ed and I sat up. "Come on, Al, don't run. Think of the kitten." Ed called out. "He's right. Think of the kitten." I called out as well when the he started running withthe cat bouncing in Al's armor. "I know! I am! I'm the only one who is!" Al cried when he remembers how his brother found a cat in the rain.

~Next scene~

Ed and I are in Mustang's office and on separate couches. "Wow, Ed and Isa. You two really have madesome bang for our buck." Roy said to us. "Don't start that with us, okay? You're the one who told me and Edto go to Liore for a Stone that turned out to be a fake." I said to him. "That's true, but I didn't ask you two tounseat their favorite prophet." Roy said to me when I clearly remembered what happened in Liore, revealingthe prophet's true colors. I laid back on the couch with a cool look on my face. "Yeah, and now a town ripe foruprising is under the rule of the military again." I said to him. But then I realized something and sat up.

"Wait a minute! Is that what you were planning all along?" I questioned him. "You know I've heard an oddrumor about Xenotime, and its land baron, Mugear. Apparently he's missing, and his mansion collapsed." Roysaid as Ed and I begin to remember what Xenotime is. "Yeah Xenotime, now where is that again? That's a city,right?" Ed questioned. "Maybe I should have you two file a report about the Red Water, too." Roy said as Edand I growled and remembered how Mugear got crushed to bits.

"I almost forgot. We had a little inquiry from a detective in Aquroya." Roy said when we remembered how wecaught Psiren. "So tell me. Is it true Psiren's a real "ten" under the mask?" Roy questioned Ed as he blushed,and my right eye twitching at the thought of that wench. "So you know everything we do, is that what you're telling us? Great,we're glad we had this talk." Ed said when Roy stood up. "Settle down, Edward. You and Isabella could at leastlook like you two are following orders." Roy said to him while walking towards a nearby window and Ed and Ifaced him.

"Why, so Isa and I can turn into one of your toadies? We've got other objectives, you know." Ed said tohim. "Like the Philosopher's Stone? It's been three years, and you two haven't gotten closer to it." Roy said tohim as Ed and I stood up. "We're going to find it, no matter what." Ed said to him. "That's right." I said to him as well as we both bowed to him, and we turn to leave. But before we could dothat, we clearly remembered something.

"Colonel, tell us if the name Marcoh rings any bells for you. He's a doctor and alchemist who showed up inXenotime with no background, five years ago." I said to him when a flashback of what happened five yearsago begins. "Apparently he cured the poisoning caused by the red water, which no one else can do, usingsome kind of alchemy." I said to him when the flashback ends. "You always seem to know a little bit abouteverything, and the military's bound to have a file on someone that skilled." I said to him. "The name isn'tfamiliar, no. But I'll check on it." Roy said to me when we hear the door open with Riza at the door.

"Company, sir." Riza said when several soldiers from Central including Hughes and the Brigadier Generalentered the room. Roy growls at this when he sees Hughes there, then turns to salute the Brigadier General."What brings me this pleasant surprise, Brigadier General?" Roy asked the Brigadier General. "As of today,we'll be taking over this East HQ as our temporary Central Command." Grand said to him. "May I ask what'swrong with the one in Central, sir?" Roy asked him when we hear a laugh from somewhere, and the soldiersmoved aside for the Fuhrer and the woman with him.

"I know, Mustang, I asked the same thing. Sorry for the hassle. Everybody at ease, now." The Fuhrer said toeveryone. "Fuhrer Bradley, welcome sir." Roy said to the Fuhrer when Ed sees the woman behind the Fuhrer,who looks so familiar to him. "Your job is not to ask questions, Colonel. The Fuhrer and his staff will run this place, both to operate as Central Command, and to observe the region. I trust you'll make us comfortable."Grand said to him.

No POV

Both Havoc and Breda are outside looking at the chains on the soldiers. "Look at all those chains." Havoc saidto Breda. "Those are for the silver pocket watches they only give out to State Alchemists, aren't they?" Bredaasked him. "Yeah. Means every one of these guys is a full-fledged alchemist." Havoc said to him.

*Isabella's POV*

Hughes showed us a picture of his daughter while Ed and I are disgusted by this. "Look, can you two believehow big Elicia's gotten? She can even ride a tricycle now. She follows me everywhere on that thing, like myown escort of cuteness." Hughes said while kissing the picture, and Ed and I sighed at this. "Yup. You're thesame as ever Major, nice and insane." Ed said to him. "I've got more pictures. Wanna see?" Hughes asked him."Maybe later, okay? Anyway, if you knew this transfer was gonna happen, you could've warned Mustang." Isaid to him

"Not a chance! I had to see the look on Roy's face. Oh, by the way... I'm a Lieutenant Colonel now. Got me incharge of Court Marshal investigations." Hughes said to me. "Sounds fun-filled beyond belief. Shouldn't yoube in Central, then?" Ed asked him. "Why, so I can work in a bunch of empty offices? All the major big-wigsare fleeing Central fast as they-" Hughes couldn't finish when Ed and I faced him. But he started freaking out."Never mind. Uh... how's that search been going for the uh- You-know-what Stone?" Hughes asked me.

"Well, we're closer, or I'd like to think we are. Right now Ed and I are looking for a guy named Marcoh whomight have answers for us. But we can't get Mustang to tell us what he's got on him." I said to him. "Well,have you two considered he might not have anything?" Hughes asked me when Ed faced him. "No, RoyMustang's hiding stuff from me and Isabella. I can definitely tell." Ed said to him when a figure stepped in,and it was Brigadier General Grand in front of us.

"Did I hear you and Fullmetal say the name "Marcoh", Flower?" Grand asked me. "Brigadier GeneralGrand." Hughes said. "The Iron-Blood Alchemist. What do you want?" Ed asked him. "What do you two wantwith Marcoh? He's a filthy deserter." Grand said to him. "What do you mean by that, sir?" I asked him. "Sixyears, a brigade of State Alchemists were called to neutralize the Eastern Rebellion. And Marcoh was in theirranks. But he went AWOL before the battle was done. The coward's been missing ever since." Grand said tome.

*FF*

Ed and I told everything about Marcoh being a deserter to Roy. "A deserter?" Roy questioned when he setsome flowers down on his desk. "Don't know him, sorry." Roy said to us.

*FF*

The three of us are in a library with me and Ed looking for some records about Marcoh. "Dr. Marcoh? Nope. ? Not here." I said looking through some book. But Ed and I grow mad at all of this. "Damn it!Wouldn't you know it, he's been erased from all the record book!" I cursed to Ed. "Clearly Mustang knows, buthe's not talking! We'll have to beat it out of him!" Ed said to me. "You're right about that, Ed." I said to him. "A fight? You two couldn't get away with that." Al said to the two of us when we hear a meow from Al's armor,and he started freaking out."Your stomach purring?" Ed questioned his brother as he started to freak out. "Yes. I mean no. I mean... youknow it's still raining outside!" Al said when Hughes came by.

"Ed, Roberta, I forgot to mention somethingearlier, what with the pictures-" Ed and I cut Hughes off. "Get to the point." Ed and I growled at him as hefreaks out at what we did. "Fine. I will. Rude little..." Hughes said while clearing his throat. "As I was saying, dueto conditions, yours and Isabella's assessments will be held here, Ed." Hughes said to him.

"Assessments?" I questioned him. "You mean to renew their State Alchemy certifications?" Al asked him. "I'lltell you two later about all your options." Hughes said to us when Ed and I stepped in front of him. "We've gotit, Major!" Ed and I said when Hughes corrected us. "Lieutenant Colonel!" Hughes corrected us. "Whatever." Imuttered to myself. "Seriously! We know the perfect way to show off our skills." Ed said to Hughes as he looksconfused by this. Then we turn to face Al. "Right?" Ed and I said to the two as they sweet dropped."Oh no." Al said as we smirked at them.

*Riza's POV*

It's still raining outside and everyone is talking about this assessment for Ed and Roberta. "Battle weird." Fury said to Havoc. "Does the army really do that?" Breda asked Havoc. "Yeah, sometimes. Thealchemists go up against each other in a mock battle. And they're graded on how they use their skills. I justthink it's weird Ed and Isa actually requested it." Havoc said to him.

"Yeah, and picking the Colonel, that's a heck of an opponent to take by choice. Seriously, though. Who do youthink would win, if they were all giving their all?" Breda asked one of them. "Are you kidding? It's gotta be theFlame." Fuery said to him. "I don't know. You can't count out both Fullmetal and Flower, either. Thekids are heroes in this region. Then again, when you think about all the stories of Mustang during theRebellion..." Havoc said to him. "But why would Ed and Isa both propose this to begin with? It's so risky."Fuery asked him.

"I heard it was for a cat." I stated when everyone looked at me. "The conditions are that if Ed and Robertaboth win, Mustang has to take care of it." I stated to them. "A cat? I guess that's bad news for this guy. I washoping the Colonel would take him." Fuery said when the Colonel enters the room and notices something inFuery's arms. He walks up to him. "Sir?" Fuery said when the Colonel swipes the poor puppy out of his arms,and he looks at it.

"Dog, huh?... I LOVE DOGS!" Roy said happily when Fuery was happy at what he said. "Really? You mean it?"Fuery asked him out of happiness. "Of course! Dogs embody loyalty. They follow their master's commandsabove all else." Roy said to him when he started to shake the poor puppy. "Be a jerk to them, and they don'tcomplain. And they never once beg for a paycheck! Trust me, Fuery, they're the great servants of man! LoyalCanine. How We Salute Thee!" Roy sang as he started laughing like a total maniac.

"Well, you're awfully manic today, sir. I figured that challenge would worry you some." Havoc said to himwhen the Colonel calms down, and kept his cool. "Come on, the Fuhrer knows it wouldn't be fair with meagainst the two kids. I'd love to show off my valor, but there's no way he's gonna allow it." Roy said to him.

The Colonel begins talking with the Fuhrer with me and Havoc by the door. "That sounds like a veryinteresting fight. I'm going to allow the Battle Assessment." The Fuhrer said as the Colonel gasped. "ButFuhrer..." Roy said out of shock. "Fuhrer's spoken, Colonel. You can use the Parade Grounds. That way youwon't have to worry about all the collateral damage." Hughes said to him. "What's wrong, Mustang? You'resure of your own skills, aren't you?" Grand asked him. "Go on, fight Fullmetal and Flower. I think it'sgoing to be a lot of fun." The Fuhrer said to him.

We began walking down the hallway with the Colonel in front. "You can't say I didn't try to protect the I'll dutifully obey my orders, at least until I become Fuhrer and every one of them is obeying me." Roy saidto us. "Be more discreet about those declarations, sir. Some would call them treason." I said to him. "She'sright, chief. It's a presumptuous thing to say. You got a death wish, or something?" Havoc asked him as hestops making me and Havoc stop and face each other, and back at the Colonel.

"That's a stupid question, Havoc. I say it because it's true. And when I'm Fuhrer, there'll be changes." Roy saidto him when he begins talking about something. "That day, all female officers will be required to wear tinyminiskirts!" Roy stated as I sigh at this, and Havoc was surprised by this, and has a nosebleed. Then he grabsthe Colonel's leg and hugs it in happiness. "You're a miracle, Mustang! I'll follow you for the rest of my life!"Havoc said to him out of happiness. "Yes." Roy said to him when I walk away from this scene.

No POV

Maes Hughes begins introducing the Battle Assessment. "Ladies and Gentleman! Welcome to the EasternCommand Center Festival, a guaranteed break from that soldier grind! Incidentally, take a look." Hughes saidwhen he reveals a giant portrait of his daughter, and the whole army gasped at this.

"My daughter, who turned three this year! Isn't she adorable?" Hughes said when the whole army beginsthrowing multiple objects at Hughes, and one of them hits the portrait and Hughes turns to see the portraitfalling. "Oh no, don't fall on Daddy! Elicia!" Hughes cried when the portrait falls on him

Isbella's POV

Hughes recovers from when that portrait of his daughter fell on him, and he begins to introduce ouropponent. "And now, without further distraction, we move directly to the day's main event! In the red corner,the Flame Alchemist, and hero of the Eastern Rebellion. Colonel Roy Mustang, give it up!" Hughes said whenhe points at Roy's direction, and several soldiers booed at him. "Boo!" One man shouted out. "You just want apromotion!" Another man said out loud. "Give me back my girlfriend!" The other man said out loud as Hughes begins to introduce us.

"In the blue corner, the Fullmetal Alchemist and the Flower Alchemist, and living legends of thepeople! Let's hear it for Edward Elric and Isabella Rockbell!" Hughes said while pointing at our direction, andthe army begins to look confused. "What? Where? I can't see them!" One man said when Ed and I begin togrow mad. "Working grade-schooler's more like it! Good luck, bean-sprout!" Another man said out loud."Don't die on us, love-birds!" The other man said as Ed grow mad at those words."DON'T CALL ME SMALL! I'LL BREAK DOWN YOUR FEET AND STICK 'EM ON YOUR HEAD!" Ed shoutedwhen Al held onto him. "Calm down." Al and I said to him and Ed calmed down and taking breaths."Okay, guys, you're right. Today's a great day. The day Isa and I beat Mustang's pompous mug in front ofthe whole army and get some damn respect." Ed said to the us. "But we're indebted to him, guys." Al said to us. "He's asked for it. Saying he knowsall we do, acting like he'd let our secret out, then not telling me and Ed what we need to know!" I said to her. "So, what's your strategy?" Al asked us as Ed and I know what our strategy is. "WE TOLD YOU, A FIST IN HISFACE!" Ed and I said to him.

*FF*

Ed and I are in our positions when Al are in the audience. "This assessment means nothing to us. If Isabella and I win, you'll tell us all you know about Marcoh. And let's not forget, you'll have a new cat." Ed saidto Roy as he smirked at this. "Alchemists, get set." Hughes said as he clears his throat, then he runs off like achicken. "Ready, and fight!" Hughes said while running for his life, and Ed and I turn at this. "What?!" Ed and Iquestioned in shock.

"Too slow." Roy said as he snaps his finger, creating a flame explosion on me and Ed, and the army looks on inawe at this. Ed and I landed on our butts and sat up. "Damn it, that was a cheap shot!" Ed shouted as he and Istood up and run from another explosion Roy made, and we cried out. "'A soldier favors haste overcleverness', means there are no cheap shots, Edward and Isabella. Strike quickly and you'll end it quickly, too."Roy said as he continues to attack us. The whole army including Breda, Havoc and Fuery look on in awe atthis.

"Those flames are coming outta nowhere. How does he do that?" Fuery asked Havoc in awe. "Oh, this is thefirst time you've seen the Colonel fight? His right glove's made of special material, called ignition cloth. Whenhe snaps, it makes a spark. After that, he uses alchemy to change the oxygen density in the air, and boom,bombs on command." Havoc said to him. Ed and I are running like crazy for our lives, and crying as wellavoiding those flames.

"Just wait till we stop running!" Ed cried out as he and I go through the crowd. "Sorry." I said when Roy cameup to the crowd, and the crowd has a "We've got nothing," look on their faces. "Well I guess I can't torch youall." Roy said when started calling out, and Ed and I ran through the crowd. "This is hard. He's such a smalltarget and she's so girly to be a target." Roy called out as Ed and I grew mad at this.

"WHO ARE YOUCALLING SMALL?!" Ed stammered at him."WHO ARE YOU CALLING GIRLY?!" I stammered at him as well. "If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek toirritate, and never fall for an enemy's taunts." Roy said when the army including me and Ed began to turn blueand Roy used his alchemy to explode the audience. "You've gotta be kidding!" Ed and I cried out when thewhole army began running for their lives. "Okay, maybe I overdid it." Roy said to himself when he sees twosilhouettes there in the smoke.

"Need more?" Roy questioned when the smoke clears to see dummies of me and Ed. He was stunned by this,when I jumped in with a dagger I transmuted. "Cheap shot!" I shouted as I slice his glove. "Damn." Roy cursedas Ed and I got ready to fight back. "Without that glove, you can't make flames anymore, can you?" Iquestioned as Ed and I clapped our hands and began to use alchemy. "That's advantage Elric." Ed said. "Andadvantage Rockbell." I said as well as the army look on in awe, and Ed and I created a giant cannon aiming atMustang.

He smirks and reveals another glove in his pocket, which is his left one. Ed and I screamed at this and Roysnapped his fingers and the cannon exploded sending me and Ed flying. Both of us coughed and sat up. "Ow,that hurts." I cried out in pain when Roy showed up in front of us. "All war is deception. Think your enemy hasa weakness, and it becomes his strength. Remember that." Roy said to us. "Just end it." Ed said to him.

"Youdon't have to ask." Roy said as he gets ready for the final blow. But he remembers something back in the war, and Ed has his auto-mail arm blade against his throat, while I had my transmuted dagger against his throat we hear the Fuhrer coming. "All right. That's far enough. An excellent fight by three skilled alchemists."The Fuhrer said as Roy salutes and Ed and I faced him. "We are honored by you compliment, Fuhrer." Roy saidto him. "Don't stop us now. We're not done yet." I said to him. "That maybe true, but if I let you go on, itwould be much harder for just the three of you to clean up." The Fuhrer said to me about the mess the threeof us made. I sweet dropped at this. "My life is so over..." I said out of sadness.

*Sunset*

Sunset came and the three of us begin to repair the whole place with me and Ed using alchemy. "They don'thave a choice but to spend their time together now. The Fuhrer ordered them all to fix the mess." Riza saidwhen Ed and I used alchemy, and Roy sat down and yawned. "This is the reason I tried to avoid this fight, youtwo." Roy said to us. "What happened? Why'd you hesitate at the end?" I asked him as he give me a confusedlook. "Ed and I don't need anyone to cover for us. If you had time to beat the two of us, you should have doneit." I said to him as a long silence came by."This goes back more years than I care to admit, but there was something called the Ishbal Rebellion." Roysaid to us.

"Part of the Eastern Rebellion, right? When the people of Ishbal clashed with the military." Ed asked him. "I saw my share of really terrible things." Roy said as heremembers how he burns an Ishbalan."Dr. Marcoh, the deserter, he was the smartest one among us, I still think so, even now." Roy said to us. "Is that why you kept quiet about him, out ofrespect?" Ed asked him.

"But maybe I was wrong not to tell you, and yes, she did try to save your hometown, and how your friendbegins to hate Ishbal and its' people. You should pay him a visit. So you'll know for yourselves." Roy said to us. "You mean he's alive?" I asked him as he nodded. Ed and I smiled at this. "Colonel, you still haven't told usyet... Why didn't you finish us when you could. Never mind. You don't have to say." Ed said to him.

Riza's POV

The puppy is in Fuery's arms. "Well, if you've got no other candidates... I guess I can handle him, Kain." I saidto him. "Really? That's awesome!" Fuery said as the puppy jumps out of his arms and barks happily and runtowards something. But he started to pee on the wall. "Sorry. Guess he's just relieved to have a new owner."Fuery said when I pulled out my gun and started shooting at the dog. He was holding his poor little paws inthe air after I did this to him."Now you won't be doing that again, will you, pup?" I asked the puppy when everyone including Fuery wereshocked by all of this. "See you've got a strict mommy now. The bathroom's out here. Got it, Black Hayate?" Isaid to the dog that I named Black Hayate. "What's wrong with all you people?" Fuery cried out.

Roy's POV

Hughes and I are both having a drink. "About Liore, that desert town in Ed and Roberta's reports... Are yousure that General Hakuro's detachment has been dispatched over there? I hear it's turning into a pretty uglycivil war. Ed said their prophet Cornello, had been removed as a sham, and the people would open their a priest is still here, and going strong, and now he's calling his followers to this uprising. I can't say forsure if it's the same guy Ed and Isa both fought, though. You think you should send the two in, toinvestigate?" Hughes asked me."Ed and Isa both believed they saved that town. It's one of the first successes they had. I'll let them keepthinking that for a while. They'll learn the truth soon enough. We always do." I said to him.

Isabella's POV

Meanwhile, somewhere in Central in an alley. An Ishbalan man with sunglasses nicknamed Scar has an officerin his clutches. "You won't win! They'll find you! You're a barbarian, nothing more!" An officer said as Scar killshim. The officer's corpse fell to the ground and he removes his sunglasses to reveal red eyes. "Time to headEast." Scar said to himself.
