Chapter 3: Movement!
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha!
Kagome laid in her bed tossing and turning as beads of sweat rolled down her forehead traveling over her cheeks and trailing down her neck until they rolled off onto her pillow.
Kagome stood in a dark room looking around in confusion. "Where am I?" Her words echoed all around her. Looking every which way she could think of but seeing absolutely nothing but suffocating darkness she started to hyperventilate as panic started to set in. This wasn't your typical every night darkness, this was a blindness - a 'you can't even see your hand in front of your face.'
Before the fear could settle all the way in, however, Kagome heard a whisp of a voice echo around the black space.
"You must find the remaining pieces of the jewel, restore it to its full form and replace it in its rightful place." The bodiless voice whispered echoed all around her.
Kagome gasped as she looked around the room trying to see something - anything - but it was useless in this level of darkness. "I know that! Why are you telling me things I already knew!?"
It's true, Kagome has known about restoring the jewel and placing it back where it belonged ever since she's become captain some one hundred years ago. This very voice before her now told her that all those years ago.
"Your mission is in jeopardy." The disembodied voice echoed.
"In jeopardy? What do you mean?" Kagome asked but instead of receiving an answer from the voice a bright light exploded from behind her.
Kagome's shriek echoed eerily throughout the room - jerking her body towards the blinding light as it dulled and became like a moving picture. She gasped as she saw a man she knew as Naraku walk up to where about five pieces of jewel resided inside a tempol serving its job to the best it was able being broken. The jewel was created thousands of years ago when the whole of the world was decomposing and dying. The jewels power was commissioned, prayed Apon and put inside a sacred tempol where the powers of the jewel could be released and bring life back to the world. Everyone was relieved when the jewel did its job exceptionally well.
That is until two hundred years ago an evil man named Onigumo found where the jewel was hidden and tried to take it. The jewel exploded at the force Onigumo used trying to get it out of its holding compartment and no one saw or heard of Onigumo again. Many people thought the jewel did away with him and so they started the mission to find the jewel before the world died. Only five pieces of the jewel was found, however, and put back in its place, doing its job but just barely. There was no fish in the sea, no deer or wild bores in the woods and no fruit growing in the trees. They still had rabbits, turtles and other small animals in which they could eat and survive - though they had to ration their intakes but that was doable for the time being. Since no one had the ability to fuse them together the way Kagome could, all they could do was just put the pieces back in their compartment in which they belonged, and they hoped it would be enough to keep the world alive for the time being.
Kagome gasped in horror as she watched Naraku walk up to the pieces of the jewel and take them.
"You must hurry and find all the remaining shards and restore the jewel. Only you can do this mission." The voice whispered as the screen vanished encompassing Kagome in darkness once more.
"But how am I supposed to do that? I can barely see the jewel! I have to be right on top of it to be able to even sense it! It took me a whole year to find these three!" Kagome yelled bringing her hand up, flashing the jewels for emphasis.
"You must find this priestess." The voice said as the screen came back to life revealing a picture of a woman with straight deep black hair and deep brown eyes. The woman held a certain coldness in the set of her face, even more so in her eyes that made a shiver of trepidation crawl up Kagome's spine. "Find this priestess, gain her trust and she'll give you her sight."
"Her sight? You mean, she'll give me her eyes?" Kagome asked not quite liking the idea of having different eyes than the ones she had now, she loved her eyes and didn't want to lose them.
The voice chuckled. "No, dear one, she'll teach you how to see as she does."
Kagome nodded. "And where am I supposed to look for this priestess?"
"She resides in Spain in a temple on the beach."
"Okay, so I'll go to Florida and seek out this priestess. How do I gain her trust?" Kagome asked.
"You'll have to figure that one on your own, I cannot give you that answer."
"But-"
"There is one more you must receive help from." The voice interrupted as the picture on the screen morphed from the black-haired woman to a silver-haired man.
"Inuyasha?" Kagome tilted her head in confusion.
"It is with your sight and both of your strengths put together that you'll find the jewel shards and save the world." The voice said. "Oh, and one more thing - it's time you know."
"Know what?" Kagome asked.
"You've heard the stories of Onigumo, you know he disappeared by the power of the jewel."
"Yeah, what does that have to do with anything?" Kagome tilted her head.
"They are one in the same." The voice riddled.
"Who? Who's one in the same?"
"Naraku and Onigumo. When the jewel exploded three shards went inside his body, giving him the power to summon demons and absorb their demonic powers within his very being to use their powers with his own selfish intentions. When he absorbed the demonic powers, it was the death of Onigumo, in a sense, and the birth of Naraku." As the voice spoke the words got quieter and quieter until the words stopped coming at all and Kagome fell withing the darkness.
Kagome shot up in bed panting, bringing her hands up to wipe the sweat off her face. Once the sweat was off her face she made a beeline for the door, not even bothering to put her jacket, shoes on or her bandanna.
A sleepy Shippo sat up in bed rubbing his eyes. "'Gome?" He said as he stared confusedly out the still opened door. He glanced at Kagome's desk and saw the bandanna laying there, his eyes widened as he figured out what that must mean.
There were only two people on this ship that knew Kagome's secret and what she really was. Shippo knew that she was a very rare breed of lunar wolves, and he knew that she was an elemental demon - she was able to control the earth, fire, wind and water. That's why she was able to go invisible, she was able to bend the wind until whatever she wanted to become invisible became invisible. Also, with one other person on this ship, he knew she was a half demon - something that she didn't want anyone else on the ship to know.
Acting quick, Shippo jumped off the bed, grabbed Kagome's bandanna and ran out the door.
"Movement!" Kagome yelled as she ran out on deck. "I want movement!" She yelled at the top of her lungs waking the sleeping dead of the crew. "Movement!"
"Captain!" Shippo yelled catching Kagome's attetion. "Here." He said handing her, her bandanna.
Kagome smiled as she quickly tied the bandanna over her head hiding two furry ears the same color as her hair. "Thanks, Shippo." Kagome did a secret smile in his direction as the first person ran up from down below.
*BREAK*
"I assume you all are wanting to know who we're after?" Naraku asked as he walked onto the docs as the sun rose over the horizon. "We are after Captain Kagome and Captain Inuyasha." He said once the confirmed mummers died down.
A collective gasp echoed from each person standing on the docs as each person shared a surprised expression on their faces.
"Captain Inuyasha? The weird girly man exclaimed almost too excitedly. "I've always dreamt of tasting his blood off my Jakotsuto." He said dreamily with an odd smile on his face.
"Not I run him down with my Banryu first, Jakostu." The leader of the strange seven men laughed.
"No!" Naraku growled with a wild look in his eyes. "If you lay one fucking finger on either captain, I'll kill you! They are mine and mine alone to kill!"
"Then what are we doing here?" The woman with the blood red eyes asked.
"You, my dear Kagura, are to help track down the pirate scum and possibly be used as fucking bait if the need should arise." Naraku ground out.
"So, basically, we're your cattle to take to the slaughterhouse when you see fit?" The child-like man asked.
Naraku smirked as he looked at the man that had spoken. "Exactly, Hakudoshi."
"Wait." The man with the ice blue eyes blurted out. "You plan on killing Captain Kagome?"
"You got a problem with that, Koga?" Naraku spat out.
"Well,"
Naraku cut Koga off by shoving his face into Koga's face. "If you let your sick puppy dog love for her, get in the way of my fucking mission I'll cut you down! Do I make myself clear?"
"Crystal." Koga narrowed his eyes at Naraku as he wiped the spit off his face.
"Captain Kagome and Captain Inuyasha, along with their second in commands are mine. You all may have my table scraps, meaning all the other pirates on board, understood?" Naraku commanded as he walked away from Koga.
Everyone nodded, though, not too happily - they all had a vendetta towards one captain or the other, some even had on directed at both captains - and though it sucked that they weren't the ones bringing them down it'll still feel like a victory watching them perish.
"Excellent." Naraku smiled evilly. "Now, get on the fucking ship and get it ready to cast sail!"
Everyone nodded again and jumped to follow Naraku's commands.
"Man, Manten. This sucks! I would have loved to kill that bastard Inuyasha with my own hands!" The man with the long black hair in a braid and blood red eyes complained as him and his brother worked with the sails on the main mast.
"Agreed, brother Hiten. There's nothing I wouldn't give to be able to wrap my hands around that wench Kagome's neck!" The bald misshapen faced man, Manten agreed.
Loading the everything they would need which included food, water, wine and other alcoholic drinks, a change of clothes for each person and all the guns, swords and ammunition. Kagura heaved a sigh as she lifted a particularly heavy box full of vegetables and began walking up the gangplank. "I can't believe we got stuck with this job." Kagura mumbled under her breath expecting an answer from her sister but when she didn't receive one, she turned and found her white-haired sister staring blankly behind her. "Kanna? What do you see?"
Kanna turned her cold black eyes towards her sister. "Disaster is coming." She whispered before started picking up a box and passed her sister without saying another word.
Kagura stared after her sister. "Okay?" She shrugged as she followed after Kanna, never really understanding any of her riddles.
Up in the foremast tying the sails and making sure the sails were in good condition. "What I wouldn't give to be able to poison Captain Kagome into paralyzed state and have my way with her." The man with the bugged-out eyes and puffy lips said with a sick smile on his face. "Do you think that Mr. Naraku will let me play with her for a bit, Suikotsu?"
The man with the green stripes on his face turned towards the other man. "I don't know, Mukotsu, all I really want to do is run my tiger claws through both of their hearts."
"Don't be a sour sport! At least let me have my fun with Kagome first!" Mukostu pouted.
"Just get back to work." Suikotsu rolled his eyes turning away from Mukostu to continue his work.
Mukostu mumbled under his breath but didn't say anything else.
Up in the Mizzenmast the man with the two purple stripes coming from his jawline and over his eyes. "I should be the one in charge of this ship, not Naraku." He narrowed his eyes as he fixed the sails on the mast.
"Oh, stop being so high and mighty, Renkotsu. Just do what you're told for once and finish this job so we can be free of our debt." The freakishly huge man said as he helped with the sails.
"You're not seeing the big picture, Kyokotsu!" Renkotsu ground out.
Kyokotsu scoffed. "What big picture?"
"The big picture of The Band of Seven ruling the entire world!"
Kyokotsu sighed. "And how do you plan to do that?"
"I've heard the legends of this jewel that will make you exceptionally stronger. I heard that it was shattered into thousands of pieces, but the pieces alone will make anyone more powerful than what they are without it." Renkotsu explained.
"So, we find the jewels and become stronger than the strongest demon?" Kyokotsu smirked.
Renkotsu smirked and nodded. "So, it's a plan?"
Kyokotsu's smirk widened as he nodded as well.
Going around making sure all the ropes and such were tied off and secured in the correct way were the cyborg man, the praying mantis and the humanoid verson of the praying mantis which were Ginkostu, Kageromaru and Juromaru.
Naraku came walking out on deck and scanned the progress made with an indifferent face. "All hands!" He ordered out waiting for everyone's attention to be on him before he continued. "Who here knows how to drive and navigate a ship?" Sure, he knew how to do it - he just didn't want to.
"I do, sir." Bankotsu stepped forward. "Where're we headed?"
"Spain. I want to be there yesterday." Naraku said walking towards the captain's cabin.
"Aye, sir." Bankostu replied as he started his way towards the helms deck.
*BREAK*
Inuyasha and Miroku walked out of the last shop with huge smiles on their faces.
"We did even better than I'd thought we'd do with making profit." Inuyasha said.
"Yes, with thirty gold pieces a pound for the poppy seeds and forty gold pieces for the uniforms - we'll be sitting pretty for a long while." Miroku supplied as he stretched his arms over his head and brought them down to lock fingers resting them behind his head.
"For sure!" Inuyasha nodded in agreement as a weird feeling over-came him. "The crew will be happy." He said a bit distractedly as he looked around.
"Is everything okay?" Miroku asked knowing the man better than anyone, except maybe Kagome, but still he knew something was bugging the man.
"Um, nothing, just a weird feeling. Maybe something is about to happen."
"Well, whatever it is - we can handle it." Miroku brushed it off.
"Yeah, we always do." Inuyasha sent a smirk towards Miroku as they made their way back to the ship.
Walking onboard of his ship, Inuyasha took a deep breath of fresh air, trying to shake this incredibly bad feeling off but no matter how hard he tried he just couldn't seem to shake it. He ordered Miroku to weigh and hand out shares to the crew as he walked in his cabin and sat down at his desk to go over his charts.
