Chapter 5: Going Against the Storm.

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha!

It had been a good hour since Kagome set on her way, she breathed in deep through her nose as she kept a weathered eye out for Captain Inuyasha. The heat of the sun burned through her jacket and warmed her back, but she hardly paid it any mind as she scanned the vastness of the sea for the familiar ship. She was so focused in her current task that she didn't even notice the impending clouds coming her way until they blocked out the sun completely.

Blinking in confusion Kagome looked up towards the sky her jaw dropping and her eyes widening in complete shock as she saw the once clear blue sky black and angry with thunder clouds.

Jumping with fright and nearly losing her balance on Kilala's back from an unsuspected loud boom from thunder, she tightened her grip in Kilala's fur. "What's going on?" Kagome asked under her breathe as heavy rain started to pour down on her and lightning strikes striking through the sky followed by more loud thunder booms.

She was never one for thunderstorms and she couldn't explain the fear that struck her heart every time she heard the loud clap of thunder. It's been that way since she's been a little girl - always afraid of the quick flashes of light and the loud booms the shock the hut she lived in. Now, as an adult, she could compose herself better and hide that fear of storms behind the strong mask, but if you really knew her - you could see the slight shake of her hands and the flash of fear in her eyes that moved so fast you'd have to look real close to see it.

The only ones that knew of her fear were Inuyasha, of course, Sango and Shippo - no one else knew nor knew her well enough to see the slight signs of fear she was giving off.

Trying to ignore the strange sudden weather. "Just my luck." Kagome sighed and went back to searching for Inuyasha's ship. Squinting, trying to see through the heavy rain she grumbled under her breathe that things couldn't get much worse - right?

Right?

She sighed as she brushed her hair that was stuck on her forehead and invading her eyesight, when she could see as clearly as she could - considering the downpour - she continued her seemingly never-ending search.

The waves were starting to get dangerously high, and the lightning strikes were starting to grow in number and getting closer and closer to the water around her. She was worried about Sango and the others, but she tried to push that to the back of her mind as she tried to make sure of her own safety at the moment.

"Kilala pay attention to the sky and be on the lookout for any lightning that could strike us. I'll pay attention to the waves and trying to find Inuyasha's ship!" Kagome instructed Kilala receiving a confirmed growl.

Focusing back on the sea and desperately trying to find any sight of the dog demon's pirate ship - praying for a miracle and praying it happens fast! Kagome looked to her right and nearly fainted from fright.

"Shit! Things just got worse Kilala!" Kagome yelled as she saw multiple twisters coming straight at them. "Come on! We can dodge them Kilala!" She tried to pump them both up. "Let's go!"

Kilala masterly dodged all the twisters while Kagome still tried to locate Inuyasha's ship, but in a more of a panic state.

It wasn't easy, trying to see through the thick rain, dodging lightning bolts and now trying to maneuver through twisters without getting caught up in one.

She should have known that this search party wouldn't go smoothly. Everything and anything she ever tried to do never went smoothly - there were always bumps in the road, always obstacles in the way. Why she thought this would be any different and go smoothly was beyond her, but she still hoped that the Kami would have thrown her a bone. She could see now that wasn't going to happen.

Smirking despite everything she sat up straighter and lifted her fists straight up in the air. "Bring it on!" Kagome yelled into the storm as Kilala continued to dodge the waves and lightning strikes. Bringing her hands back down and intertwining them once again in Kilala's fur - she was determined to make it out of this and onto Inuyasha's ship safely. Anything, but that, would be unacceptable.

Kagome was so focused on what was ahead of her she didn't see what was behind her until it was far too late to do anything about it. As Kilala sailed through the air a huge wave was building up behind them, Kagome looked behind her when the hair on the back of her neck stood up and barely was able to let out a shriek of surprise and fear as the wave slammed down on both Kilala and Kagome - swallowing them up into the unforgiving sea.

*BREAK*

Having gone back into his room, while everyone else went to have some fun - he didn't feel much like going out, to go over his charts once more. Smirking to himself when he found himself finally able to concentrate and figure out the next best stop. "Hispaniola." Inuyasha whispered to himself. "We still have some odds and ends that we could sell there - and maybe be able to raid another ship while we're there." He grumbled knowing that the docs were always packed with ships.

With their next port destinated Inuyasha stood up from his chair and stretched sighing as multiple pops echoed in the air making his aching back feel tons better. His eyebrows came together when his once brightly lit room suddenly went dark. "What the?" He whispered as he walked towards the windows that lined his back wall, his eyebrows rising up when he noticed the angry looking clouds that covered the once cloudless sky. "Well, where the fuck did that come from?" He asked no one in his shock. "Good thing I'm in port already."

Dismissing the weirdness of Mother Nature for the time being, Inuyasha turned to grab a book to read out the weather - knowing that he was stuck in this port until the storm let up. "Might as well do some reading while I wait." He mumbled to himself as he went to sit back on his bed.

In the middle of his second book the ship lurched to the side, almost making Inuyasha - who was way too far lost in the world of The Odyssey to pay any attention to the severity of the weather - fall off his bed.

"What the hell?" Inuyasha growled to himself as he looked out the window. When he saw what was happening outside his jaw dropped and his eyes grew wide with absolute horror as he saw dozens of twisters scattered all over the sea. "Oh shit!" He yelled as he threw himself off his bed and ran out his door into the raging storm.

As he ran out the door he bumped into another person - as he was about to curse at whoever it was, he looked up and saw it was Miroku.

"Miroku, what the hell is going on?" Inuyasha growled out as he watched as the twisters destroyed everything in their paths.

"One hell of a storm." Miroku answered. "If it gets any worse than this we might capsize."

"Shit, we may capsize as it is. I don't see how it can get much worse than this." Inuyasha replied as the wind whipped at angrily at his hair.

"What do we do? I've never seen a storm like this before." Miroku asked as they ran back inside the room and closing the door against the raging winds.

"Neither have I." Inuyasha answered. "All we can do is wait it out and hope that it doesn't do any real damage to the ship."

Miroku gulped and nodded as he looked out the window at the still strong going storm.

*BREAK*

Sango stood at the wheel sailing towards Spain, enjoying the sunshining down on her face with her eyes closed. When things suddenly went dark, she scrunched her eyebrows together in confusion and opened her eyes to see what happened to the sun.

"What the heck?" Sango mumbled.

"Miss. Sango!" Sango turned towards the stairs at the sound of her name being hollered to see little Shippo running up the stairs. "What's going on?"

"Shippo?" Sango mumbled. "I don't know. It looks like a storm is coming and a bad one too, by the looks of it. But where did it come from? A normal storm - no matter how bad it is - doesn't just come out of nowhere."

"What do we do?" Shippo whimpered as he climbed up Sango's body to sit on her shoulder, she could feel his little body tremble with fright.

Sango looked around her but saw no ports in which she could pull over and anchor down until the storm passed. "Well," Sango sighed. "We have no choice but to try and sail through the storm and pray to any Kami that will listen that we make it out with very little damage."

"But isn't going through a storm this bad dangerous." Shippo asked with a shaky voice.

"What do you suggest we do, Shippo?" Sango ground out. "Look around! We're sitting ducks! Easy picking for this fucking storm!"

"So, we're doomed? There's no hope?" Shippo asked.

"There's always hope, Shippo. We're going to make it out of this, you just watch!" Sango said with a determined face. "All hands on deck!" She shouted.

"Tie down the sails! With waves like these there's no need for the sails and we don't want the strong winds to rip them!" Sango ordered them when all the crew members ran out on deck from down below.

"Aye!" They all yelled and ran to do what had been ordered.

As Sango watched the crew members tie the sails down a huge boom rent the air making Sango jump and Shippo shriek and tried desperately to hide in Sango's long flowing hair as it whipped around them and wrapped his tiny arms around her neck.

"Shit, this is bad." Sango whispered. "Kagome, I hope you're alright." She whispered so low that Shippo didn't hear her.

As the waves started to grow more rampant, Sango expertly maneuvered over the waves even as Shippo did his best to cut off her air supply. She was doing a good job at it, that was until she looked to her left and saw what had to be two dozen twisters heading there way.

"Oh, good Lord." Sango felt all the determination and confidence leave her at the sight. "We're fucked." She said as she tightened her grip on the wheel to try and keep them from capsizing - though she wasn't sure how she was going to pull this one off. However, even though it seemed stupid to even try to go up against this storm - she knew she had to do everything in her power to keep this ship on top of the waves. She had to keep everyone alive.
