Chapter 18: The Possession.
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha!
A/N: I don't remember if I mentioned Kagome's powers in previous chapters, though I think I did but can't find it. If I didn't pretend I did lol, but Kagome is an elemental half demon - meaning she can control the air, Earth, water and fire. Anyway, on with the show! Hope you like it!
Waiting back on Naraku's ship for her snake to return to her, Tsubaki made quick work sitting up the small alter in which the jewel would sit on. Naraku watching every move that Tsubaki had made with an evil smile curling his disgusting lips he watched as she ties white pieces of cloth on wires that she had put up around the alter.
This is it. He thought as he continued to watch Tsubaki work. This is the day those retched pirates die! And once they're dead, then there will be no one around that would be strong enough to stop me! The world will be mine!
Naraku chuckled out loud making Tsubaki look at him with an inquisitive look that he ignored as he looked out his window at the world that was always destined to be his. Shrugging at his odd behavior, Tsubaki focused back on the finishing touches of the alter she was working on.
With the alter completed, Tsubaki sat back and admired her work before placing the jewel in the center of the alter just as her snake entered the captain's cabin in which they were sitting in.
Grabbing the head of the snake after it had slithered up her arm, Tsubaki squeezed the head and watched as droplets of Kagome's blood fell out of the fangs and onto the stollen jewel that sat on a small alter. She watched in satisfaction as once pure jewel turned jet black; she knew her curse was in full effect now.
"Do you have her?" Naraku asked as he watched the jewel change colors.
"Of course, I do! What would you have me do to her?" Tsubaki asked.
"Let's make Inuyasha suffer." Naraku sneered.
"And if he were to run away?" Tsubaki questioned.
"If Inuyasha runs away I want you to take the opportunity to kill Kagome." Naraku said as he developed a sinister smile.
"And what should I do if he should stay?"
"Kill him and then kill her."
Tsubaki nodded as she closed her eyes, squeezed more of Kagome's blood into the already tainted jewel making it even darker and deepening the hold she had on the girl. A slow chant started coming out seemingly out of nowhere, making Naraku's brows furrow in confusion as he looked at Tsubaki but did not see her lips moving. However, not really caring so long as the curse worked in killing both of his enemies, he could care less about what else happened.
Naraku watched in amazement as the jewel grew darker, yet brighter at the same time - both sides, darkness and brightness, swirling with each other in an eternal fight that one of them was destined to lose. He saw, with great satisfaction that the darkness seemed to be winning in this instant as the bodiless chanting started to grow in volume. He then heard Tsubaki's voice that was dripping with authority, demanding to be obeyed, say 'kill him'. He knew then that the possession was in full swing, he could feel himself practically levitating with excitement because on this day he would be victorious and everything he'd ever wanted would be his and no one could take that away from him.

Inuyasha watched as Kagome laid on the ground unconscious with every ounce of fear, concern and confusion leaking out of his face.
Fear because what if Kagome died? What if he lost her, what would he do? He couldn't even think about losing his best friend, his everything, his Kagome. He couldn't lose her because if he did then the world would lose him as well for, he will follow her in death, he knew for a fact that he couldn't live without this woman - so after he got revenge for her, he would follow Kagome so he could be with her for all eternity.
Concern because she wasn't moving, though, there was the rise and fall of her chest, so he took solace in that because that meant that she was still alive - right? Concern because what if she was hurting right now? There was nothing he could do about any of this! He felt completely helpless, completely lost - shit, Kagome would know what to do in this situation, how can he not? How can he be so fucking useless as to let his best friend - no, his everything - lay here and suffer!? He should be able to help her, to be able to do something about it dammit! However, he didn't have a fucking clue as to what to do that could help in any way, shape or form - and didn't that just piss him off.
Confusion because what the hell was going on? What was the purpose of keeping Kagome in this state? What does Naraku have to gain from this? Kagome was still alive, and if he knew Kagome like he thought he did - then he knew that she was fighting with all her might to break whatever was happening to her. Any minute now those fuchsia eyes that he loved so much would flutter open and be filled with determination as the woman he loved so much demanded to be taken to wherever Naraku was so she could kill him herself.
Yes, Inuyasha loved Kagome, he always had - for as long as he could remember he loved her, and never wanted to let her go. Though, he didn't know how she felt about him - sure she gave off many clues as to how she might be feeling towards him, but she had never said the words, and to be fair - neither did he. He kept it to himself, too much of a coward was he to even think of telling her how he truly felt and take the risk of losing her as a friend if she didn't feel the same way. He couldn't let that happen, he wouldn't - he needed her to be by his side in one way or another, and if that meant that they would never be more than friend then he'd be happy with that so as long as she was by his side, he'd take that sacrifice.
Growling out of frustration and out of plain helplessness, Inuyasha balled up his hand and slammed it down on the ground right next to Kagome's face. Everything was hitting him all at once, all of the what if's, all of the possibilities that could have happened but won't if Kagome didn't make it through this and all of his heartbreak - he didn't think his heart could take much more of this, and it fucking killed him that he couldn't do a fucking thing about it.
"Kagome," Inuyasha said with a bowed head and a suspicious shakiness to his voice. "You better be okay, you hear me?" He lifted his head up towards the sky as a tear ran down his cheek. "Sango, Miroku you had better hurry up."

Kagome was trapped in complete darkness; she couldn't even see her hand in front of her face no matter how hard she squinted. She looked around but saw nothing but blackness and felt the icy cold fingers start to squeeze her heart. What was happening? What was she here? She couldn't remember anything - nothing about herself or her past, it was all gone. She squeezed her eyes shut tight and prayed to whatever to let her out of the darkness.
Do you want your old life back? A womanly voice asked making Kagome open her eyes once more but again saw nothing back a black void.
"What?" Kagome asked the dark abyss. "What are you talking about?" What old life? She couldn't even remember her current life at the moment so what the hell was this voice talking about?
Without warning, the blackness all of a sudden splashed and lit up with color everywhere; pinks, purples, browns, greens, whites - any color you can think of was suddenly everywhere blinding Kagome forcing her to close her eyes.
"Kagome!" Kagome heard her name called as she heard someone milling about around her. "Kagome, wake up! You're going to be late for your own coming to age ceremony!"
It was all coming back to Kagome now, that voice that was telling her to get up sounded so familiar yet so out of place - like it was supposed to be weird, impossible even, to be hearing it now. As far as the coming to age ceremony, that was for young women that was turning fifteen to pick a potential husband. The available men would compete with each other in multiple challenges to try and prove their love to the fair maiden. Kagome found it all rather stupid and a complete waste of time for two reasons: one - she didn't feel like anyone truly wanted her, sure they accepted her and all but to actually go as far as to marry her? She wasn't so sure. Two - she was already, sort of, in love with someone. Inuyasha to be exact, though, she's never told him - or anyone for that matter - how she truly felt because she was scared. She didn't want to take the risk and tell him how she felt about him just for him to laugh to her face and break off their friendship. It was just too great of a risk to even take the chance.
Kagome sighed and cracked her eyes open just to see the woman who shouldn't have been standing there - a woman she hadn't seen in years. Her eyes widening as she shot out of her sleeping spot and ran right into the woman almost knocking her over in the process.
"Oh, mom!" Kagome gushed as she felt the shock practically roll of the woman in waves as she slowly brought her own arms to wrap around Kagome. "I've missed you so much!"
"Oh, Kagome, what's the matter dear?" Kagome's mom asked as she gently rock the inconsolable girl back and forth.
"Kara, is Kagome ready yet? The contestants are ready and waiting for her to start the games." A deep baritone voice asked as he entered the room not realizing the state of his daughter until he was finished talking before he looked up and caught sight of his two favorite girls. "Huh, what's going on here?"
Letting out a chocked sob she let go of her mother before crashing her father in a crushing hug.
"It seems like our Kagome has had some bad dream." Kara said with a laugh.
Kagome remembered it all now, this day - the day of her fifteenth birthday, the day everything went all to shit! She really didn't want to relive this day, but it seemed like she didn't have much of a choice. So, with that thought in mind, she sighed and let go of her father with her eyes closed tight.
A bad dream? Kagome thought. Is this really all it is, a bad dream? It feels so real though, the warmth that I felt coming off their bodies and how solid they felt. If this is a dream, I don't know if I want it to end - to wake up without my mother or father seems like would be the death of me. I can't take losing them again, however, I know that this can't last - I'll have to wake up and be without them once again.
What if you didn't have to be without them? What if this could be your new reality, I could make that happen for you.
Kagome gasped and looked around her for the mysterious voice but found nothing. "W-what?"
However, you can't get something for nothing, you know?
"Huh?" Kagome tilted her head in confusion.
All you have to do is kill him.
"Kill him!?" Kagome gasped taking a step back. "Kill who?"
Inuyasha! The voice screamed making Kagome wince and cover her ears. Kill Inuyasha!
"W-what!?" Kagome sputtered out, her eyes as wide as saucers. "Hell no! I won't do it! You can't make me!"
If you won't do it willingly, I'll force you to kill him!
Faster than Kagome could blink her eyes the color vanished, and she was submerged back into the darkness - however - this time she was falling with nothing to grab onto.
Her screams echoed around her as she continued to fall for several more minutes until she landed on the ground.
-X-
Inuyasha gasped as he watched Kagome's eyes flutter open. "Kagome? Are you okay?" He couldn't put his finger on it but there was something off about her eyes. When she didn't answer Inuyasha began to panic grabbing her shoulders and shaking her gently. "Kagome, please answer! Tell me that you're okay!"
Kagome still said nothing, though, she did stand up - followed by Inuyasha as he stood up as well.
"Careful, Kagome, don't move to fast or you might collapse." Inuyasha said as concern leaked past his lips, and he grabbed her upper arms to try and study her as much as possible.
Still, Kagome said nothing - though - she did jerk her arms away from him making Inuyasha's heart crack.
"Ka-Kagome?" Inuyasha sputtered out. "W-what's going on?"
Still not talking, Kagome swung her fist and arm up causing a huge chunk of Earth - that Inuyasha was coincidently standing on - fly into the air sending Inuyasha flying backwards.
"What the hell Kagome!?" Inuyasha shouted, though he was concerned it showed as anger. "What the hell is going on!?"
Not receiving an answer and not having enough time to stand as Inuyasha was sent flying through the sky again.
"Ahhh" Inuyasha yelled as he hit the ground with a thud and a grunt of pain. Struggling to stand up "Kagome, please talk to me!" He grunted out in pain. Looking up he gasped as he saw Kagome pointing her bow right at him. "K-Kagome?" He whispered.
"In..yash..a, please, r-run a..way. I c-can't con..trol my bo..dy." Kagome stuttered out as if she was having great difficulty talking. "Please run, be...fore it's too...late."
Shit! What's going on? What do I do!? Sango, Miroku you better hurry up and figure out what's going on! Inuyasha screamed in his head as he kept his focus on the woman in front of him.
