Magnus' Apartment - Living Room
Jace and Magnus were sitting in the room waiting when Clary walked out of the room with Alyssa in tow.
"I know where the Cup is." Clary announced, getting Jace's and Magnus' attention. Alyssa moved to stand by Jace who stood up, fixing his glove.
"Come again?" He asked.
"The tarot cards." Clary said as if it explained everything. "My mom, she must have painted them years ago but the Mortal Cup has to be hidden inside the Ace of Cups. The card looks exactly like it."
"Lovely." Alyssa said sarcastically, exchanging a look with Magnus and Jace.
"Wait, why aren't you guys happy about this?" Clary said. "All we have to do is find..." Clary trailed off as Magnus and Alyssa gave her a look that made her realize. "Dot." This made the redhead crestfallen.
"Exactly, Clary. If Dot had the cards when she was taken then..." Alyssa began.
"We don't have much time." Jace continued. "If Valentine gets his hands on the Cup..." Magnus got up from his seat and held his hands up, cutting Jace off.
"We know. If Valentine started creating Shadowhunters or gained control over demons, it'd be like Beyoncé riding on a dinosaur through Times Square. People would notice."
"But he can control demons. I've seen it." Clary said.
"Mmm...not exactly. Paying of a few demons is quite scarily easy. It's hardly a sweat for someone like Valentine." Alyssa said.
"Alyssa's right. Especially since they rarely survive long enough to collect." Magnus said.
"Still waiting on Valentine's 'Thank You' card." Jace said sarcastically.
"Mmm...you're gonna be waiting a long time for that, babe." Alyssa said with a smirk at Jace who smirked back. "Don't hold your breath."
"Opening the gates of hell...that's a little more tricky." Magnus continued, sitting down.
"Valentine doesn't have the cards." Luke said, walking into the room, still wrapped in bandages. "I do. They're in my desk back at the precinct. When Clary went missing, I went to the loft and I cleared everything out because I didn't want the Circle to track them." Clary's face lit up at this bit of news.
"That's great. This should be easy." She said, making Magnus hum in disagreement.
"Hmm, that's what General Custer said." He remarked.
"In other words, little sister, not so easy. Nothing's ever easy in this world." Alyssa added.
"Magnus and Lyss are right. Valentine has spies everywhere, even in the NYPD. We have to be discreet." Luke said.
"Discreet?" Clary asked incredulously. "You look like something out of 'The Mummy' movie." Magnus raised an eyebrow and tittered.
"We'll go in the morning." Luke said. Clary still had a look of disbelief.
"He'll be fine by then. Werewolves heal faster than the average human." Alyssa explained to Clary. "However, that healing would only kick in faster if he was in bed resting like he should be." She said, giving Luke a look. Jace chuckled softly while Magnus and Clary tried to hold in their giggles.
"This is nothing a couple of hours of beauty sleep can't fix." Luke said.
"Yeah, so you should get to bed." Alyssa said, moving to push him towards the guest room. Luke chuckled and brought her close to him in a one-armed hug, both of them going to the bedroom.
NYPD - Outside
Jace, Clary, Luke and Alyssa walked toward the police station and stopped in the parking lot.
Alyssa;
"Alright, cards are on my desk. It shouldn't take long." Luke said.
"Alright." Jace said, moving to walk past Luke but he was stopped by father and daughter.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa." Luke said, putting his hand up.
"Slow down there, handsome." Alyssa said.
"It'll be easier to avoid unnecessary attention if I do this alone." Luke said.
"Dad's right. If we all go, it'll be suspicious. I could go with him but I have a feeling, staying out of sight right now might help later on." Alyssa said, with Luke nodding in agreement.
"We'll wait here." Clary said to Luke. Luke walked away, towards the station, leaving the three shadowhunters behind. Jace crossed his arms and feigned an uninterested look which the girls saw through.
"It sounded boring anyway." He said. Clary and Alyssa looked at each other then at him in amusement.
"Mmhmm. Sure it did." Alyssa said with a teasing grin that became a laugh at Jace's playful glare. "Oh, stop pouting, you big baby. You'll be getting some action later, I'm sure."
"From you?" Jace said, smirking at her.
"I'm still here, guys." Clary said. Alyssa giggled at that.
"Yeah, Jace, my little sister is here. Don't want you corrupting her with your words." Alyssa teased.
"Hey, I'm 18." Clary said.
"And I'm 20 so still older than you, still my little sister." Alyssa teased. Clary rolled her eyes and glared playfully at her.
Some time passed by, the three young adults were still waiting for Luke who hadn't come back yet which made them antsy.
"I've got a bad feeling about this." Clary said. Jace crossed his arms and leaned against the car behind him.
"Yeah, me too. What's taking him so long?" Alyssa said.
"I know a way we could find out. Just go in and see for ourselves." Jace said.
"Luke told us to stay put, so that's what we're gonna do." Clary said before her cell phone began to ring. "That's probably him now." She said, taking the phone out.
"Doubt it." Alyssa said, looking forward towards the station seeing something. "Especially since he's being led out of his working area probably towards the interrogation room."
"Just so I'm clear, he did mention something about trying to avoid attention, right?" Jace asked. Clary looked at them in confusion then turned to look in the direction Alyssa nodded in and spotted Luke being led through the precinct on their way out. "From the looks of it, he's doing a terrible job."
"Circle members?" Clary asked.
"Nope, mundanes. Internal affairs officers." Alyssa and Jace said at the same time.
"You can tell all that just by looking at them?" Clary asked.
"We're not psychic, Clarissa." Alyssa said.
"We can tell all that by reading their badges." Jace said. Clary looked over to see if she could also see but with no luck, then turned back to her sister and Jace. Jace lifted his arm and showed her a rune. "Better than binoculars and Lyssa had her enhanced eyesight in addition."
"Dad had his chance. Let's go." Alyssa said leading them into the precinct.
Interrogation Room
Luke and the I.A officer, Fisk, were seated at the table, facing each other. Fisk took two pictures and placed them on a table. The pictures were of two dead bodies.
"Look familiar?" Fish asked.
"Maybe, I'd have to ask my lawyer." Luke said.
"That's the way you want it?" Fisk asked with a nod. He looked at him, giving him a chance to change his mind but Luke just stared back at him. "One lawyer, coming up." Fisk stood up and went to the door, opening it to go out then turned back to look at Luke. "You want coffee or something?" Luke didn't answer, instead looked in his direction of the door as a glamored Jace, Alyssa and Clary walked into the room. Luke's eyes followed them as they went to stand on the side of the room. "Garroway." Fisk said, calling Luke's attention back to him. "Coffee?"
"No. No, I'm good."
"Suit yourself." Fisk said with a nod then walked out, closing the door behind him.
"Jace, camera, behind you." Alyssa said. Jace turned around to see the camera and pulled the wire from it, effectively shutting it down. Alyssa then looked back at Luke. "You and I clearly have very different meanings of being discreet and not drawing attention."
"Come on, honey. I didn't know this was gonna happen." Luke said.
"Luke, what is going on?" Clary asked, placing her hands on the table.
"I think I'm about to become the prime suspect in a murder investigation." Luke answered with a sigh.
"Really? What, uh...what gave it away? Was it the badges on the officers' suits or the fact that you're sitting in the station's interrogation room and this time you're not sitting on the side of the interrogator, as you usually do?" Alyssa said, sarcasm dripping from her tone.
"Alyssa." Luke said, giving his daughter a slight glare. Jace placed a hand on her back, rubbing it, knowing she was only this way because she was worried about her dad.
"What do we do?" Clary asked.
"Get the cards. In my desk, bottom drawer." Luke answered. Clary nodded then went to head out with Jace and Alyssa. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. You can't glamor yourselves. I'm not the only downworlder on the force and we don't know who's working for Valentine. If anybody..."
"Dad, I'm standing right here, you know that right? I know this place just as much as you do and I know we can't go in there glamored. We're going to be fine. You just focus on getting yourself cleared and out of here. We'll handle the rest. Okay?"
"Right. Okay." The trio began to move to the door but Luke caught Alyssa's hand. "Hey, it's going to be ok. I'm not going anywhere. Ok?" Alyssa smiled weakly, unsurprised that her dad had been able to read her worry quite clearly. She opened her mouth to say something but they were all distracted by the sound of the door unlocking. "Go." Luke whispered. The door opened then and Fisk returned, giving the three shadowhunters a way to escape.
"Hey, what happened to the camera?" Luke watched the three leave then turned to look at the camera. Fisk closed the door then walked close to the table. Luke shook his head and answered.
"I've asked the same thing for years."
The three ended up in a storage closet which had little room enough for them to stand sideways. Jace was not so welcome to the idea of them being in there.
"Really? In here?"
"Why not?" Clary asked.
"There's got to be a better place." Jace complained.
"No, here's good." Clary said. Jace accidentally bumped into some boxes.
"Ow. Alright." He said, then deglamored himself. Alyssa followed suit wordlessly. Clary was still having trouble. "You need help with that?" He asked with a smirk.
"I can deglamorize myself, Jace." Clary said, throwing him a slight glare.
"Well then, do it more quietly because at this rate, someone will hear you and burst in on us to ask what we're doing here and I am so not in the mood to be ready to answer such a question." Alyssa hissed, speaking for the first time since they left the interrogation room. Finally, Clary undid her glamor and put her stele away.
"Right. The cards?" She asked.
"Right. How exactly are we gonna get them? I doubt we can make it out of this closet without drawing attention, let alone Luke's desk and you two are covered in runes." Jace said.
"We're all covered in runes, Jace." Alyssa said.
"I actually have a plan. I'm just not sure how you'll like it or how Alyssa will like it for that matter." Clary said.
"Well then since you're not sure how we'll react and whether or not our reactions will affect your plan, let's go with plan B, me. Everyone at the station knows I'm dad's daughter and they've seen the runes on me before. They think they're just some tattoos on my body."
"What exactly is this plan of yours?" Jace asked, feeling almost skeptical.
"Oh, don't worry, babe. It's not anything that will kill you or hurt you. All you might need to do is stand around and look pretty and every inch my boyfriend." Alyssa said, smiling at Jace then left the room with Clary and Jace following. They followed her to the main area where some officers and detectives were either at their desks or walking around. She motioned for them to stay at the entrance while she walked towards where Luke's desk is, greeting the detectives and the officers who knew her. She made a show of opening the drawers but saw nothing in them. She then pretended to look around Luke's desk, checking the stationery holder on his desk then looked in the drawers again. A blond woman came over to her, seeing her rifling through the desk.
"Alyssa?" The girl in question looked up at the woman and smiled.
"Captain Vargas, hi."
"Hi. What are you doing here? I thought you were in college."
"I was. I mean I am but I'm in town with my boyfriend. He's the one standing at the entrance. We're supposed to be staying over at my dad's." Alyssa said, pointing at Jace who plastered a smile on his face and gave a small wave. "Anyway, so where's my dad's stuff? I've been looking and most of his things are like gone."
"IA took everything. What are you looking for?"
"A key. I lost my house key and my dad always keeps a spare here for me in case that ever happened and it did today. So any chance I can look through his things 'cause I like, really need that key."
"I'm sorry, not until he's cleared."
"Cleared? Cleared of what?" Alyssa asked, feigning confusion. "Wait, you mentioned IA but I thought they only come around when there's a case where an officer or detective has committed a crime or something." Vargas kept quiet not wanting to say anything to worry the girl. Alyssa then acted as if she just realized something. "Wait, are they accusing my dad of anything? Did they arrest him or something? Is he gonna go to jail?" Alyssa acted panicked. Jace having heard everything, walked over and put his arms around her, playing along.
"Hey, hey, hey, what's wrong babe? What's happening?"
"They arrested my dad. They're accusing him of doing something he probably didn't do." Alyssa said to Jace then turned to Vargas. "Captain, you know my dad. You know he's not someone who'd do anything that'd get him into trouble. They can't..." Captain Vargas couldn't stand it anymore. Jace on the other hand was impressed with his girlfriend's acting.
"Hey, Alyssa. Don't worry. We'll get it handled. Your dad will be fine. I'm sure of it. Right now unfortunately, IA has all his things in the evidence vault upstairs. Do you have a friend you could stay with, in the meantime till all this is over and your dad is released?"
"Uh, yeah. I have a friend we can stay with. Thank you, Captain." The woman nodded and watched the two walk away.
Stepping outside the precinct, Jace was praising Alyssa and Clary was doing same, both in awe of how she acted.
"Wow. You really should have gone into acting." Clary said.
"You almost had me believing in you for a second there until I realized it was an act." Jace said.
"Well, some of it was an act."
"Well, I'm impressed. I think I'll let you plan a lot from now on if all your plans can be as good as this one." Jace said, pulling her to him and kissing her cheek.
"Thanks but we're still back to square one, without the cup. Except now dad's under investigation for some murder." Alyssa said. Just then Alec and Izzy ran over.
"Somebody call for backup?" Izzy asked, looking at the trio.
"What took you guys so long?" Jace asked, looking between Alec and Izzy.
"Funny, I was gonna as you the same thing." Alec said.
"It's a long story but we may have found the cup." Alyssa said. Alec and Izzy's heads snapped over to look at them.
"The Cup?" Izzy asked, eyes wide.
"Yeah, but then we lost it." Clary said. "We have to sneak back in the precinct to get it." Alec shook his head with deep sigh, crossing his arms over his chest.
"This is a disaster." He said, throwing his arms to his sides.
"Hey, demon pox is a disaster. This is an inconvenience. We just need a plan. That's all." Jace said.
"What about a glamor?" Izzy asked.
"We tried but anyone working with Valentine or any downworlder will see through it. Remember, we're not the only ones after the Cup." Alyssa said.
"Can we ask Magnus Bane to portal us inside?" Clary asked.
"No!" Alec instantly said, drowning out Alyssa's own disagreement, which made the girl look over at the dark-haired boy with a raised eyebrow.
"That would be awkward." Izzy muttered then realized she'd said it out loud and cleared her throat.
"I'll get back to that later." Alyssa said to Izzy, eyeing both her and her brother suspiciously. "Anyway, Alec's right. We can't ask Magnus. He can only portal to places he's been before." Clary nodded in understanding just as her phone began to ring.
"Not again. Just give me a second." Clary said, answering the call and stepping away from the group. "Simon, this is not a good time."
"I see what you meant yesterday when you said the mundane calls her every 5 minutes." Alyssa said to Alec. Jace then went on to tell them of his plan to get them the Cup. Alyssa looked to the side and saw her sister still on the phone. "Hey, Clary, wrap it up." She yelled to her sister who paid her no mind. Alyssa sighed, irritated. "Jace..."
"On it." Jace said, then went to take the phone from Clary, hanging up the call.
"Hey!" She exclaimed, glaring at Jace.
"Your boyfriend's little problem can wait for an hour more or two. The Cup can't." Alyssa said.
"He's not my..."
"Not my problem. Moving on." Alyssa said, with an indifferent shrug.
"Yeah, I've got a plan to get us to the Cup." Jace said.
"Oh, there's a first." Clary snarked.
"Ha, ha." Jace laughed sarcastically.
"I'll stick with Alec and Izzy for this one." Alyssa said.
"You sure?" Jace asked, not really wanting to part with her.
"Yeah, besides, Clary's the one who knows what the cards look like. Plus your plan seems like a two-person job. Go on. We're running out of time." Jace remained hesitant until she gave him a look and assured him she'd be fine, then he nodded and turned to go back into the building with Clary following.
"You know I find it weird how you two can communicate without speaking out loud." Alec said.
"Weird? Try scary." Izzy said. The trio walked towards the lounge of the precinct.
"Mmm...speaking of weird, Izzy, what are you wearing?" Alyssa asked, coming to a stop in front of the dark haired girl.
"Um...clothes?" Izzy said, almost confused.
"Izzy, this isn't your normal style. What happened?"
"Nothing. Can we focus on the mission?" Izzy said, trying to avoid the conversation. Alyssa tilted her head at her giving her a look.
"For now. We both know I'm not letting this go until you tell me the truth." Alyssa said, then entered the main area of the station.
"Okay, I'm guessing you're the distraction?" Alec asked. Alyssa looked around, scanning the area.
"Nope, I've decided to grow up, remember? No more distracting for me." Izzy said then smirked at her brother.
"She kind of has a point. She can't be the distraction this time. This happens to be out of her territory." Alyssa said, nodding towards the female officer at the front desk. Alec's eyes followed the direction and his eyes widened a little. "The card is on her desk."
"Oh, crap." Alec said nervously.
"Yeah, you're gonna have to improvise. I'd go there myself but that woman does not like me for some reason and she would watch me like a hawk if I went up to her." Alyssa said.
"Don't worry. It's good practice." Izzy said with a soft smile.
"Huh?" Alec asked confused.
"You know, for asking Magnus out." Izzy said, chuckling.
"I definitely did not need to know that." Alyssa said with a little groan. She watched as Izzy began to fuss over Alec, unbuttoning his shirt while he protested and buttoned them back up. She sighed as she watched them lightly bicker. "Guys, any day now." The siblings finally stopped and Alec walked over.
"Think he's gonna be able to do it?" Izzy asked.
"Nope. He's definitely gonna get awkward and somehow miraculously succeed in the actual mission. No offence but Alec is yet to learn the art of charming a woman or a man for that matter." Alyssa said. They watched Alec, holding in their laughter as he did just as Alyssa had predicted. The two smirked and began to walk past them as he distracted the officer. Izzy caught the key card Alec slickly tossed to them and the two girls went to the control room, barely controlling their laughter. Izzy swiped the card and opened the gate. She walked over to a gate and began to draw a rune on it. When she was done, Alyssa sent Jace a text then the two left the control room.
NYPD - Outside
Jace and Clary met up with Alec, Alyssa and Izzy. Jace shared a look with Alyssa who nodded making Jace nod back in slight relief.
"Did you get it?" Alec asked.
"Theoretically." Clary asked, making the other three shadowhunters look at her.
"Theoretically?" Alec repeated.
"Yeah." Clary sighed. "I found the card. I just have to figure out how I reached into my notebook before. It's not exactly science."
"Can't you just pull it out?" Alec asked.
"I can, theoretically. I just...it's not as easy as it looks, Alec." Clary snapped.
"Okay, you two, enough with the bickering and theories. You can talk about it later." Alyssa said, casting her eyes round as she spoke.
"Why don't you try? You and Luke mentioned that you had the same ability." Clary said, making Jace, Izzy and Alec turn to Alyssa.
"I do but I haven't used it in a long time. I don't remember how I did it the first time. I'd need some kind of emotion to trigger it."
"Girls, you can discuss this as much as you want when we get back to the Institute. But right now, considering we just stole from the cops I suggest we get home." Jace said. Izzy's necklace started pulsing right then.
"Guys...I think the mundanes might be the least of our worries." Izzy said.
"Well, at least we know the demon necklace works." Alec said, shrugging.
"I think we've known since before today." Alyssa remarked.
"Never a dull day. Let's go." Jace said. The five of them started moving, Clary lagging behind as she tried to catch up to the fast pace of the others.
"Guys, slow down." She called. She bumped into an older woman and gasped. The other four stopped and turned around. "Oh, I am so sorry." Clary said, bent down to pick up the old woman's bag and looked up to find the woman's face transform into one of a demon's and it roared at her.
"Izzy, whip." Alyssa said, taking out her blade.
"On it." Izzy used her whip to grab the demon and pull her away from Clary then Alyssa and Jace stabbed it, killing it and making it disappear. Clary stood up with wide eyes.
"What the hell?" She said.
"Stay sharp and pick up the pace, Clarissa." Alyssa said, darting her eyes around looking for any other threats.
"How did it find us?" Alec asked.
"Don't know, don't care. We gotta move. It brought friends." Alyssa said, catching sight of a demon disguised as a female officer stepping out of a cruiser.
"How can you tell?" Clary asked.
"It's like seeing through a glamor. You just got to pay attention to the details." Jace said then began walking away with the rest of them following.
"But I can't see anything." Clary said.
"Behind us." Izzy warned.
"I...I still can't see them." Clary said, looking around as she walked, trying to see what the others were seeing. "Okay, there's too many people." Alec came to a stop with a sigh, making the rest stop as well.
"I don't say often but I agree with Clary. We gotta get out of here." Alec said.
"Finally, some sense. This way." Alyssa said, running towards some stairs with the others following. They ran down the stairs, Clary taking the lead and came to a stop at a closed door. Clary took out her stele, poised and ready to draw a rune.
"What's the Unlock rune again?" She asked. Alyssa rolled her eyes annoyed and kicked the open with a lot of force.
"Open sesame." She said, sarcastically. "Now move." They all ran in, jogging down the steps. Alec and Alyssa stopped, sharing a look. The others noticed after they were a few feet away. Jace walked back over to them.
"Hey, what are you two doing?" He asked.
"Holding them off." Alec said, pulling an arrow out of his quiver and nocking it. "Take Clary back to the Institute."
"No, if you're both staying, I'm staying." Jace said, stepping closer to Alec. "We fight together.
"No, Jace. You need to go. I'm staying with Alec. Just make sure Clary gets back safe to the Institute." Alyssa said.
"No, no..."
"Jace, I can take care of myself."
"I know but..."
"Don't be stupid. If the demons get the Cup, we're dead anyways." Alec said.
"I'm not leaving anyone behind, either of you." Jace said stubbornly.
"I know you guys are having a moment, okay? But we really have to go." Clary said.
"Clary's right. You have to go, Jace. We can't afford to waste any more time." Alyssa said.
"Don't worry. It's not like this is the first time Alec has saved your life. I doubt it'll be the last." Izzy said with a sigh. "And Lyssa knows how to take care of herself." Jace still hesitated looking at both of them. Alyssa stepped forward and gave him a quick kiss.
"Go." She said, giving him a small push. Jace nodded and gave Alec a look then ran away with Izzy and Clary. Alyssa turned and walked back to Alec. She extended her hand, causing a black sticklike object to slide into it. It unfolded and assembled into a compound bow as a quiver full of arrows appeared on her back. Alec watched her, surprised as she swiftly nocked an arrow.
"Where did you get that?" He asked.
"What?" She asked with a smirk. "You're not the only one who can shoot. Besides, I'd rather the demons didn't get close to me this time. I'm not in the mood for an up close fight." Alec shook his head with a smirk.
"You are full of surprises." He said.
"It's part of my charm, darling."Alyssa replied Bach with a smirk. They both smiled and turned to face the door, aiming their arrows there.
Elsewhere in the tunnels, Clary ran back to where she, Jace and Izzy parted ways, after getting rid of a pack of shax demons by taking out the Cup. She held tight onto the Mortal Cup, looking around.
"Jace!" She called out. "Jace?" She turned around, hearing footsteps behind her and saw Jace walking over.
"Clary." He said. "Hey." Clary noticed a cut on his cheek and reached to grab his face.
"Oh, you're hurt." Jace stepped away from her touch.
"I'll be alright." He said. "You okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine. Barely, but..."
"What happened?" Jace asked, cutting her off.
"One of the Shax demons cornered me. But I got the Cup." Clary said. "I don't know, my instincts just kicked in and I...I could do it. Maybe you're right. Maybe I'll be a Shadowhunter after all."
"Clary, you were amazing. I always knew you could do it." Jace praised. Clary's eyes gleamed at the praise. She looked at 'Jace' and without thinking pulled him in and kissed him. She pulled away, feeling something off about Jace. Before she could react, an arrow plunged into his head from behind. She gasped and stepped back and looked up to see her sister.
"Alyssa? What are you...?" Before Clary's eyes, 'Jace' disintegrated into ash like a demon would when killed. Clary could only stare in shock then she looked up at her older sister who had an angry expression on your face.
"Next time, you kiss a demon, make sure the Cup is well hidden and not there for all to see and steal before you do that." Alyssa all but growled.
"Alyssa, I..."
"Thought you were kissing Jace? Sorry to disappoint you but that wasn't him, which you'd have known if you'd been more attentive and conscious of your surroundings, instead of whatever was going through your head. Now put the Cup away before you attract more trouble." Clary hurried to put the Cup in her bag. Footsteps sounded behind Alyssa, who turned around with another arrow nocked and ready to fire, only to see it was Luke and Alec running over. She calmed down and put the arrow back in her quiver. She knew it was them.
"Alyssa, Clary." Luke called as he ran over.
"What happened?" Luke asked.
"Demons." Alyssa answered in a clipped tone which caught Luke and Alec's attention.
"Long story. Um...where'd you come from?" Clary asked
"Jail. I ran into Alec. Said you might be down here and that Alyssa had come to find you. Thought you might need some help." Luke explained.
"Apparently not." Alec muttered, staring at the ashes on the ground that were still disappearing. "Looks like they took care of it." Luke eyed his daughter's tensed and silent disposition.
"Baby girl, you okay?" He asked, drawing Alec's attention to her as well while Clary just looked down guiltily.
"I'm fine, dad. We should get going. More demons will be coming. The pack can't handle them all. Some are bound to slip by." Alyssa said and started to walk away.
"What's wrong with her?" Luke asked. Alec shrugged, while Clary just gave a weak shrug.
Institute - Main Room
Alec, Alyssa and Clary walked into ops center to find Jace talking to some shadowhunters.
"These tunnels are swarming with Shax demons. If they're down there, it's only a matter of time before they find them. We need to make sure that doesn't happen. I don't care what anybody says. I'll take full responsibility. Right now..."
"Jace." Clary called out, drawing the blonde's attention to the redhead and her older sister. Clary jogged down over to him.
"Clary, you alright?" He asked then looked around for her sister who, it seemed, had walked away.
"Yeah. I did it. I got the Cup." Clary said, excitedly but Jace was barely paying attention.
"That's great, Clary." He said and walked over to where Alec and Izzy were standing. "Where is she?" Alec and Izzy knowing whom he was referring to just nodded towards the entrance. Jace nodded and headed in that direction. Clary watched him walk away then looked down, remembering what she had done. She walked away, towards her room but was stopped by Izzy and Alec on the way.
"Clary." The girl in question looked up at Izzy. "What happened down in the tunnels? Why is Lyssa acting how she is?" Izzy asked. Clay shifted uncomfortably, hesitating to speak. "Clary?"
"There...uh...there was a demon. A shapeshifter and it looked just like Jace." Clary said.
"And..." Alec pressed.
"I didn't know it was a demon before. I thought it was Jace and I don't know what came over me...I kissed him and Alyssa saw right before she killed the demon." Izzy and Alec could only stare at her in shock.
Near the entrance, Alyssa was also telling Jace what had happened, her version of the events.
"Babe, you know I wouldn't do that. You know..." Jace said.
"I know, Jace, I know. I just don't think I can be anywhere near my sister right now. I know she probably doesn't know why she did what she did but I can't be around her right now." Jace nodded and just led her to his room, staying with her until she felt somewhat calm.
After a while, she asked Jace if he could get her a sketch book and some charcoal sticks to draw. He nodded and went to get her some, returning after a few minutes then she asked to be alone for a while. Jace kissed her temple and left the room.
After Jace left, Alyssa began to draw. At first, she seemed to just be drawing lines but soon it became almost like she wasn't in control anymore as she began to sketch furiously. She turned to a different page and then began to sketch there too, the image on that page being different from the previous one. The same happened as she flipped to the next page, drawing something else.
It happened for a few more pages before she stopped letting go of the charcoal and letting it roll onto the bed. She sat there in a trance-like state, her eyes and body unmoving, for some minutes before she snapped out of it.
She looked down at her hand, seeing it discolored by the charcoal, then down at the book. She frowned as she looked through the images, as if she didn't know who had drawn them.
She flipped to the very first one and stared at it. It was of Simon standing in front of the Hotel DuMort. She flipped to see another drawing of him inside the hotel, looking around. Another had an image of him talking to Camille. The next was of her attacking him.
Alyssa flipped through the other drawings, getting more confused as she looked through them until she ended on the last one which was of Simon again, now as a vampire.
