They slept like babies all night, yeah, they only slept. Even though they had already unlocked that level of their relationship, as Adam would call it, before the accident, he understood that the mood that night was going to be cuddly and tender and kind and he was more than ok with that, because all he cared about was being together and making her happy.

Waking up to him was one of those things she felt were missing when she still didn't remember, so now she made a point of not taking it for granted and judging by his body language, he didn't either.

Their legs were tangled together into a big knot and somehow he had managed to swing his arm over her shoulders at some point of the night, pinning her to his body and while it probably wasn't the most comfortable position to sleep in, they were enjoying the closeness.

When his alarm went off, she watched with a soft smile as his eyes began to flutter open.

"Good morning." His voice was raspy and full of sleep. "How long have you been up for."

"Just a few minutes."

"You should have woken me up."

"Nah." She moved closer to him, as if that was even possible, placing her hand and the side of her face on his chest. "I like watching you sleep." He chuckled, making her do the same. "I guess I was on stalker mode." Now he laughed harder.

"Well, that's one stalker I wouldn't complain about." She dropped a kiss on his chest at the same time his lips touched the top of her head. "I have to get up so I can wake up Grace. Do you wanna come with us to school or do you want to stay here?"

"I want to do the whole morning routine with you guys."

"I love that. Pancakes?"

"Yeah." She nodded against his body and her hair softly tickled on his side. "Do you mind dropping me off at my place before you go to the district?"

"My pleasure, Belle."

"Thank you."

"Getting out of bed is not that easy today."

She let go a shy snicker, knowing exactly what he was talking about. She didn't want to move from his side either.

Gracie was thrilled to have breakfast with her aunt and uncle. She had missed their morning jokes, singing and dancing and of course Kim's chocolate chip pancakes. Even though Adam had tried many times to make them for her, she politely let him know that they weren't as good as Aunt Kim's.

Walking to school holding both their hands made her day for sure, she thought nothing was going to be able to ruin her day, not even her boring new teacher who she had promise to give a chance and be nice to.

Kim was happy to have the day for herself, because she always found something to do and to be quite honest, having some time to unwind was very necessary.

Adam and her exchanged a few texts over the day. He knew she had a point and as much as he loved her and wanted to spend as much time with her as possible, he kind of missed being with the guys.

"This is one hell of an event." Jay said as soon as Kevin opened the door for their bearded friend.

"An event? It's a fucking miracle." Atwater added, mocking Adam. "What happened? Burgess couldn't stand your annoying ass anymore?"

"Yeah, that was probably it." He joked back and got the rest of the men laughing.

"Funny because I'm the one getting married but you are the one on the tight leash."

"I am not. I'm just having some trouble letting go at times." He opened up quickly to his friends. After all they have been through, being honest about his feelings with them was very natural.

"I think all of us would be in the exact same place, dude." Jay showed how understanding he was and Kevin nodded in agreement to Halstead's comment as he came back from the kitchen with a beer for each one of them.

"How is she doing? I mean she looked fine at Molly's the other night, but how is she really handling everything?"

"She's good. She's working really hard and doing her best to be back to her old self. But some things still overwhelm her." Adam took a pull of his beer and shrugged his shoulders. "We're getting there, though."

"That's great dawg. Now let's forget about the lady talk for a second and get this party started."

Jay and Adam laughed. Poor Kevin, he had had enough of the drama and wedding talk to last a lifetime, but he was always there, having his friends' back.

"Wait." Ruzek paused him for a moment, getting Atwater's serious eyes on him. "Is Celeste going to the wedding?" His bright smile lit up the room and his wiggling eyebrows told Adam all he needed to know.

Turns out Kim and the guys were right. He really needed that boys night, all three of them did.

The following days went by pretty quickly for all of them. The unit was packed with work, and knowing that, Kim had volunteered to help Hailey with some things she needed for the wedding. That was actually great motivation for her to get behind the wheel again.

Once her new car was ready for her to pick up, Adam insisted he would go with her and so he did, sitting next to her as she took the streets after the accident.

At the beginning it wasn't exactly easy. She was a good driver and her skill remained, but having cars too close to her would get her nervous, and that took a little time to get over.

Being the determined woman she is, she didn't quit and the next day she got in her car by herself to drive around the block and run some nearby errands. Coming back to her house, nothing made her feel more proud. She felt as if she had passed yet another test and couldn't be any happier.

"Hello." His voice made her face move from her computer screen to the door.

"Hi, baby." Her greeting came with a smile. He had texted her earlier that he was on his way there and she had to remind him that it was ok for him to use his set of keys.

"What are you doing?" He walked closer to her, leaning down to kiss her. He had been waiting for that exact moment the whole day.

"Studying and waiting for you." Kim really wanted to make the best use of the spare time she was having, so as the courses popped up she kept enrolling in hopes to become a better teacher for her students. She was comfortably sitting on her couch, they had agreed that he was going to go over to her place for dinner and even though they hadn't really planned it, he was probably going to sleep over as well.

"Do you still have a lot to read?"

"A ton. But it's clearly break time now." The laptop was shut within seconds, placing it on the coffee table and shooting up like a spring from that couch to wrap her arms around him and give him a proper kiss. "I missed you."

"I missed you too."

"How was work?"

"Good. It was a long day, but very productive. We got everything done."

"That's great, detective. So? dinner and a shower or shower and dinner?"

"Well, that depends. Will you be joining me?" His question had a flirtatious vibe to it and his lopsided smirk confirmed his intentions, having Kim all blushed up in no time to the thought of what the night could bring.

"Dinner first it is." She moved towards the kitchen to heat up the food. Adam was right behind her, he liked to do those things together, but finding the table set and mostly ready took him by surprise.

"You prepared everything already. Looks fancy too." There were glasses, wine and a vase with some daisies.

"I bought the flowers today and thought they would look cute on the table."

"Just that?"

"Well, I also wanted to celebrate."

"Hmm. What are we celebrating?" He walked closer to her, gently placing his hands on her hips.

"I did a long drive today, on my own and I didn't even flinch once." Her excitement was extremely cute to watch. He was quick to hug her.

"That's great! I'm so proud of you."

"Thank you." She said happily, because she was honestly proud of herself as well.

"Oh, I almost forgot." Adam pulled a piece of construction paper out of the back pocket of his jeans and handed it over to her. "Gracie sends you this."

"Aww, you saw her?"

"No, I stopped by my pop's place and she left that there for you."

Kim analyzed the card carefully and smiled. "A pool party?"

"Yeah. To celebrate that she's going to second grade and the beginning of the summer and everything. One of her friends was doing one too and I think it became a trend among those girls."

"It doesn't surprise me." She commented knowing her students too well. "And this?" She showed him a beaded bracelet, obviously made by Grace, that was enclosed in the card.

Adam rolled up his sleeve to show her his own wrist.

"You mean this stylish accessory?" His girlfriend nodded, clearly trying to hold back her laughter. "This is the invitation. You can't go into her house without it."

"For real?"

"Yup."

"That girl is one piece of something. She's amazing."

"She really is." He said smiling.

"I'm not putting in on just yet, though."

"Why not?"

"I'm not risking losing my exclusive invitation to the party of the year. I'm not as risk-taker as you obviously are."

"So, you're going?"

"How could I miss my niece's big party?"

The smile on Adam's face was so big he felt his jaw hurting. "What?"

"I think it's the first time I heard you call Gracie your niece."

"Really?" He nodded, his smile was still plastered on his face. "Well, I think she kind of is."

"Yes. Of course she is." He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "I just really liked hearing it."

She blushed, because she knew her comment only solidified how serious their relationship was. The nervousness pushed its way in and she did what she could. Joke her way out of the situation. "Look at me pretending I'm part of the Ruzek family and everything."

"You are a part of the Ruzek family." He pulled her closer to him. "Come here." And softly kissed her lips. Feeling her arms wrapped around his waist and her fingers lightly digging on his gave him a sense of comfort and home. "Speaking of family. I have everything ready for tomorrow night. My pops said that he would love to take care of the grill."

"My dad would probably like to help with that. Maybe they can bond over it." They both chuckled. "I talked to Nicole today. She said that all three of them are coming, you know Zoey and John. Have you met them?"

"Not John. I did see Zoey once. She seems like a nice kid."

"She is adorable."

"I'm glad that all of them can make it."

"Yeah, I'm excited about that too. And both John and Nicole work in the law field so they will have a bunch of things to talk about with Kit and Anne."

"Are you nervous about our families interacting?" He was quick to pick up her concern from the little hints that she had dropped.

"Um… I'm not sure. I mean, I know my family loves you and I think your family likes me too."

"They adore you Kim." He assured her.

"And we love each other and that's what matters the most. So if they don't like each other it's not a big deal to me, but it would be nice for them to get along."

"They'll get along just fine. They love us and they know very well how we feel about each other. They'll support that. Don't stress out about it."

"You're probably right." She snuggled into his chest and the ding of the oven telling her the food was ready made her jump. "Let's eat." She started to play with the collar of his flannel. "And maybe later you can help me let go of all the stress." Her voice was soft and velvety, almost like a purr and it was begging to wake the most primal instincts in him.

"Ok, I like the sound of that." He dipped down to leave a kiss on the crook of her neck. "Let's eat before I eat you."

They ate without even talking, they just wanted to get that part over with and go straight to dessert. Each bite and each sip of wine was accompanied by mischievous and flirty looks.

"Stop looking at me like that." She was probably on her third glass of wine, and the giggles were slipping out of her lips naturally.

"Like what?" He played with the content of his plate and looked at her over the top of his eyes.

"Like you want to have me for dinner."

Adam stood up, taking his glass of wine and downing it in one big gulp before taking his and Kim's plate and putting them in the dishwasher. "I do." He finally answered leaning against the kitchen counter. "But you're sweet, it would be more like dessert."

She looked at him, smiling shyly and biting on the nail of her index finger. "Oh, don't you do that to me."

He was next to her in the blink of an eye, dipping down to her height to capture her lips fiercely. She hooked her arms around his neck and gave in to his kiss.

Adam picked her up from the chair, holding her towards his body without letting go of her lips, he walked to the bathroom, clumsily turning on the shower and pinning Kim between the tiled wall and his body.

They were fully dressed and getting soaked and they didn't care at all.

Her hands were clawing into his shirt, trying to take it off desperately until she managed to get rid of it. She unhooked her legs from around his hips to step on the ground and gain more stability, she needed that to unbutton his pants and push them down along with his boxers.

He did exactly the same thing. His movements were slow and very seductive, peeling her clothes off her body as the tips of his fingers gently grazed her wet skin, and the contact was making her go crazy.

"Adam." She whimpered into his ear, while her fingers were tangled in his hair. His kisses on her neck were pure delight, making her tingle and ache in desire.

She didn't want to wait any longer, so her leg found its way back around his hip, lightly bucking her pelvis against his body, showing him exactly what she wanted.

"Gosh, Kim."

"What is it baby?"

"I want you so bad right now."

"I'm right here detective and I want you too."

They smiled into each other's lips and quickly melted into one.
