"Hurry up already! We're gonna be late, Matt is already blowing up your phone." Kim hissed from the living room, ready to leave her friend's place and head for the wedding.

Adam was gettin ready with Halstead and the rest of the guys since he was one of the groomsmen. At first Ruzek didn't really fancy the idea of leaving Kim to get to the wedding on her own, while she insisted he should go and get ready with his friends.

"Adam." Her voice sounded firm, even over the phone.

"At least tell me you understand me." He protested as he kicked a pebble he found lying on the pavement. It was during his lunch break that the phone buzzed and he decided to take the call outside and get some fresh air. Now, given the direction this chat had taken, he was glad he was having a private conversation with his girlfriend.

He was stuck in the precinct; they had a couple of things they still needed to sort out before Halstead could go off and enjoy his big day. Voight had already granted Hailey the day off, partly because she really deserved it, but mostly because she was going to drive everyone else insane with all the nerves that she had going on.

"Look, I understand, but I still think it's stupid." She shot out quickly.

"Why is it stupid to want to go to my best friends's wedding with my gal?"

"Because you could be getting ready and having fun with the guys. I mean, Halstead is only getting married once."

"Hopefully." He joked and only got a scoff from Kim in response.

"I hope you don't make that kind of joke when we get married." Adam could have sworn that she was rolling her eyes on the other side of the line.

"Thinking about our wedding. I like the sound of that." He teased.

"Don't change the subject. Adam, you're one of the groomsmen, Jay chose you to be part of this whole experience. Go, be with your buddies, have fun. It's not like we're not gonna see each other later, anyway."

"Ok, fine."

"Great." She answered proudly. "Are you coming over tonight?"

Now it was her who changed the subject.

"I wish I could say yes right now, but we're up to our head of work and I have a gut feeling that it's gonna be one very long night."

"That sucks."

"Yup. I'm tired. I need some Belle cuddles." He said, sounding like a little kid and Kim laughed.

"You had lots of those yesterday."

"Can't a detective want more of those?"

"Adam Ruzek, stop being naughty, would you?"

"I can't if you use your teacher voice on me. You know how that gets me."

Kim blushed, and the long pause she took before answering told Adam just that, which of course made him smile like a teenager with bouncing hormones.

"Shut up." She finally said. "Just call me later and let me know if you're coming."

"I will."

"Love you."

"Love you too, Belle."

He called, and just like he predicted earlier he wasn't able to go. They had a bunch of paper work that needed to be done and it kept them in the district until very late.

Ruzek and Atwater practically had to push Halsetad out the door so he could get some proper rest before the big event, which only meant that it was going to take longer for them to finish, but it was the right thing to do.

Adam was disappointed, he really wanted to see her before the wedding, but with this schedule they had no other option but to see each other at the venue.

"I'm coming, I'm coming!" Sylvie shouted from the bathroom as her heels clicked against the floor while she quickly walked to the living room where her friend was waiting.

"Wow." Kim said, unable to close her mouth. "You look incredible!"

"You think so?"

"Are you fucking kidding me?"

"I don't know. I don't think red is really my color."

"Sylvie Brett! Any color is your color." The brunette said, wiggling her brows up and down. "I'm sure Matt will agree with me as soon as he sees you." Brett's phone started buzzing once again. "See? He's getting impatient already."

"Are you ready?"

"I've been ready for the past fifteen minutes." Kim said, rolling her eyes and making her friend laugh.

"So? Is Matt running out of patience or are you?"

"How about the both of us?" Both girls laughed.

"Let's go."

They both grabbed their bags and left the apartment. While Sylvie was wearing a beautiful red dress, which totally complimented her skin and hair color, Kim had opted for a lavender dress. It was long, covering the legs that she used to show off before the accident and with a plunging back, revealing her toned muscles. Her hair was down and her make up was subtle but it highlighted all her features.

"You look gorgeous too by the way."

"Thanks!" replied joyfully.

"Did you show Ruzek yet?"

"No. He's been texting me trying to get a picture, but I stood firmly by my negative answer."

Sylvie laughed and Kim shrugged her shoulders shyly. "I want him to wait."

"You want to see his reaction."

"May be." The brunette smiled. "I hope he likes it. I mean, I like it. It's not like I dressed for him, but…"

"You don't even need to explain, girl. I know the feeling."

A few steps later they were next to Matt's truck, the firefighter was waiting out of the car for them, ready to open the door for his lady and his friend. After all they had been through, Casey saw Kim as a friend of his too, not only his girlfriend's.

"I don't even know what to say." Matt's jaw dropped.

"Just tell her red is her color." Kim joked as she climbed in the back of the truck giving them some privacy.

Matt looked over his shoulder at Kim and smiled. He liked that family thing they had going on. "I'm going to tell you more than that. You're absolutely stunning, honey."

"Thank you. You look pretty good yourself."

He ignored her words because he couldn't think of anything else, just how lucky he was to have her. "Wow. Just wow." He chuckled shyly and looked down at his shoes. "Can I kiss you or would that ruin your makeup?"

"It totally would. But I guess a little peck in the lips won't hurt anyone. Right?"

"Right." Casey didn't wait any longer and closed the distance between him and his girl to lock their lips together. He had to use all his will power not to take that kiss any further. When they pulled away, helloked her deep in her eyes and said the only thing that naturally flowed out of his mouth. "I love you."

"I love you, too."

Kim didn't peek because she really wanted to give them privacy, but she knew whatever was happening outside that car, was everything her friend deserved. She was truly happy for Sylvie and Matt, they were a solid item, always there for each other and anyone could see the love spill from their eyes.

The way to the venue was full of joy and conversations between the three of them. Sylvie and Kim had invited Celeste to get ready with them, but she told them that she was running a bit late and that they would all meet there. Just like Adam, Kevin was also one of the groomsmen, therefore Celeste was going to enjoy her colleagues' company.

The place was so beautifully decorated, it was simple and romantic. It was perfect. The three of them went to find a place to sit next to some of Matt's friends from firehouse 51, as the guests kept coming and coming.

Kim knew that both Hailey and Jay wanted to keep this small and intimate, but the amount of people entering were slowly overwhelming the brunette.

This wasn't the first time this happened to her, but now was not the moment to freak out. She knew this was another test and that she had all the tools to ace it, on her own. The brunette closed her eyes and began to breathe in and out slowly, trying to slow down her heart beat.

"Are you ok?" Sylvie whispered in her friend's ear, getting a gentle nod in reply.

"Yes. I was just taking a moment, but I'm good." She opened her eyes and smiled at the blonde teacher.

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah. This is just part of the process."

"Ok." Sylvie smiled sweetly as she squeezed her friend's hand which was resting on her knee.

A few minutes later they saw Celeste arrive and waved to her so she would join them.

It wasn't long before the families of the bride and groom entered and took their places, allowing Jay and the guys to come in as well.

Halstead was radiant and nervous, all at the same time. His brother was right behind him, as well as two other guys who Kim didn't really recognize but she guessed they were his friends from the military or maybe his childhood. Then she saw Kevin and Adam. She couldn't help but smile when her eyes landed on her man, just thinking of him as hers gave her a thrill that she couldn't even describe. And even though she knew how stupid that sounded because she was well aware that people are not belongings, somehow she was sure that they belonged to each other.

Adam looked like he was having the time of his life, smiling and trying to hold back his goofball personality to look like a responsible and serious man. Kim laughed when she caught him moving his head around, looking at the crowd with what he thought were discrete movements. When he finally found what he was looking for his smile grew bigger and the wink that he threw his girlfriend's way, made the brunette turn into a complete puddle of mush, but it was him mouthing a silent 'I love you' that did the trick and had sparks flying all over her body.

The ceremony was beautiful. It wasn't very long, it lasted exactly what it had to last, it was simple, sweet and powerful. Many of the guests had teary eyes and Kim was not the exception to that rule.

When the newlyweds sealed their love with a chaste kiss, everyone clapped and cheered, celebrating the union of their lives.

Burgess was very eager to get to Adam and started to look for him as Hailey and Jay exited the venue to get some pictures taken and before the bridesmaids and groomsmen had to leave for the same reason.

Her eye caught him goofing around with Kevin. They reminded Kim of her students during recess, just thrilled and high on life. Just when she was about to walk towards him, she saw a blonde woman grab him by the arm and say something to his ear.

She felt a fire inside her, but knew better than to make a scene, that wasn't her. The brunette didn't move, but neither did her eyes. They were glued on Adam and the bridesmaid that decided to flirt with her guy.

Adam's head jerked back instantly and he politely moved his arm to break the contact, which made Kim smile. She had no doubts that he respected her, but seeing it was nice.

"Let's go get our guys." Celeste's voice pulled her down from her thoughts. Adam wasn't the only one getting attention and Celeste noticed that as well.

The art teacher hooked her arm in Kim's and started to go where both cops were.

"Look who's here." Kevin was the first to notice them. "So, how'd we do? Did we fulfill our groomsmen duties?"

"We're gonna have to ask Halstead about that, but you were looking fine if that counts for something." Celeste answered quickly and was surprised by a soft kiss on the lips, right before a tight hug from Kev giving Kim and Adam some time for themselves.

"That was a very nice ceremony." She said softly as she adjusted the collar of his shirt. "And this is a very nice looking groomsman."

"Thank you, but I have nothing compared to you. You're gorgeous, like, breathtakingly incredible." He held her hand and lifted it slowly making her give a little twirl. "Are you trying to kill me, Ms. B?" He whispered in the shell of her ear. "How did you ever pay attention to me?"

"Shut up and kiss me." She chuckled and was instantly kissed by her man. "So, when do your official duties end so I can have you all to myself and don't need to share you with the bridesmaids?" Adam opened his eyes wide, it wasn't often that she showed her jealousy, but the way she did it was enough to let him know that she was paying attention to him. He liked knowing that she was as territorial as he was.

"Just a few pictures and I'm done."

"Sounds good."

Kim answered, making Adam smile before pecking her lips softly again and letting out a soft chuckle.

"What?" She asked.

"Nothing. I just can't get over how good you look. I mean you're always stunning, but you look like a movie star right now."

"Thank you, detective. You look very good too, got these Bond vibes going on. Extremely sexy." She said with a wink.

"In that case… You're my Bond girl."

They both smiled and kissed again before he had to go get their pictures taken with Jay and Hailey.

The party was amazing. They all had loads of fun together, dancing, singing, drinking and goofing around. Kim knew the fun side behind these first responders, but getting to experience it first hand was a whole different experience.

She knew just how much they deserved this, after their hard work to make the city a safe place for them all. And most of all this was without a doubt the perfect celebration of Jay and Hailey's love.
