Winter cleared her throat as Leo started to board the Airship.
"General Ironwood would like you to have this," Winter said which caused Leo to hum. "It's a scroll, an interpersonal computer, we use it for military work," Winter said and handed the device to Leo.
"Like a phone," Leo stated as he placed the object in a compartment on his armor. "Thanks, Winter. I'll report back when I'm done… Keep me in the loop." Leo stated to which Winter nodded.
"I'll report to General Ironwood," Winter said and turned to leave as Leo boarded the airship.
He started to check his guns. Leo could only ponder what damage the covenant could have done. A UEG settlement had enough firepower to resist covenant forces. The covenant was weakened as a group, but here? He didn't know if Remnant could stand up to them and their numbers.
"Leo?" Pyrrha questioned as Leo took out a magazine to look it over. "Can we talk?" Pyrrha asked as she walked towards him.
"About?" Leo asked as he took a seat. "I've heard 1 of Infinity's cruisers is coming to assist, that's good, we don't know if they have air support or such," Leo stated while shaking his head as he turned around to look around.
"I heard some things about you at the moment," Pyrrha said as JNPR started to sit around him. "About before you arrived here," Pyrrha said while Leo hummed.
"Commander Ambrose?" Leo questioned and got a nod. "Hmmm…" Leo muttered before he put his magazine back in and started to run a hand over his SAW.
"Is any of that true?" Pyrrha asked and got another hum. "Leo. You don't have to deal with this alone." Pyrrha put in as Leo sighed.
"I'll talk about when this is done," Leo said and laid his SAW over his back.
What was it he had heard the marines call this model? The Answer? Yeah, that sounded right, it made him chuckle as he hummed.
"I… Fine." Pyrrha said as she turned to Jaune. "Did anyone say about what the scouts heard?" Pyrrha questioned the others to which she hummed.
"One scout mentioned a large group dropping on the outskirts of the town… With a small ship hovering over them." Ren put in as Leo hummed.
"A light cruiser." Leo put in and shook his head with a hum. "Then they're making a big move. They wouldn't move one of their ships out here unless it's a big move…" Leo said as he pondered what to do.
"We're there in 10 minutes, Professor Goodwitch said it's close to town," Ren said as Nora grinned.
"And we're going to SMASH them," Nora said to which Leo hummed.
"Leo, didn't you talk about how you didn't have an aura?" Pyrrha said as Leo looked at her.
"I don't have a 'soul shield', yeah," Leo said and motioned to his suit. "The suit has recharging shields… Don't your auras recharge?" Leo questioned as he hummed and looked around with interest.
"Perhaps I should…" Pyrrha said and put her hands on his back. "Hang on," Pyrrha said and started to do what she had done for Jaune.
"Uh…" Leo said before he felt something start to wash over him. "Are you ok…?" Leo said before blinking as his hands started to glow blue.
Pyrrha blinked as Leo's body flashed a vibrant blue. His body was cloaked in blue flames which started to die down slowly.
"Perhaps that will help?" Pyrrha said as Leo looked over the energy with interest.
"What did you do?" Leo asked before the ship shook.
"We got to put the ship down!" The pilot shouted as it started to shake again.
"Open the door!" Leo shouted as the doors started to slowly slide open as he hummed. "Covenant, everyone out!" Leo said and started to sprint for the door.
"Did you just open his aura?" Jaune asked and got a nod from Pyrrha.
The craft began to descend as Pyrrha drew Milo and Akouo and rushed for the door followed by Nora with Magnhild. Ren drew Stormflower as Jaune unsheathed Crocea Mars and rushed to the door.
Leo leaped through the hatch as a Banshee dove towards him. Leo spun and grabbed at the canopy of the vehicle, throwing himself onto the hull. He dug a hand into the hatch and looked around.
There were several Phantoms overhead along with a CRS- class light cruiser which hung in the air over the city. Leo hummed and began to steer the Banshee towards the ground.
Leo leaped off the Banshee which smashed into a tree, it swooped up as the airship continued to land. Leo landed in a crouch as did Pyrrha.
JNPR looked up at the assault of air power being deployed against the village. There were at least 2 dozen contacts on his radar.
Leo hummed and paused before a blast of plasma singed a tree next to him. Leo sprinted forward and took cover against an overturned tree, flames danced around the group.
"Covenant?" Jaune asked as Leo nodded, another blast of plasma impacted Jaune's shield.
"Elites," Leo stated as he turned to look around. "I see one in the tree line giving orders to the others," Leo said while leaning against the tree in question.
The elite raised his storm rifle which he barked orders to a group of Grunts. Leo shook his head as a phantom circled the clearing, they were in.
"Damn it, they're dropping off reinforcements," Leo muttered as he shook his head with annoyance. "We need to stop them; they're going to flank us," Leo said before he noticed movement to his right.
Leo turned and fired a trio of bullets over Pyrrha and Jaune's head. The rounds impacted a target that collapsed off the ridge.
Pyrrha looked at the reptile-like target who had a few holes in his body. Leo hummed as the group of soldiers started to pick through the foliage.
"They're flanking us," Leo said before another elite started rushing at them.
Pyrrha threw Akuko as a pair of storm elites with energy swords struck at them. The shield ricocheted off one of the warriors and smashed into the other. Nora rushed them and swung, her hammer punting the soldier into the air.
Leo hummed as Pyrrha stabbed Milo into the other elite. It collapsed to the ground, twitching as Pyrrha cleaned off her blade as Leo nodded.
He turned and fired at the group of Covenant soldiers. One of his bullets hit a grunt, spinning it around as it collapsed. The elite aimed his gun at Leo who advanced upon them.
Leo could only ponder what the covenant was doing here. The covenant wanted something here.
The elite turned to him as Ren opened fire upon a pair of jackals over his head. The aliens covered themselves with their energy shields. Leo could only ponder what was happening.
"Look at their wrists!" Leo yelled and drew his knife with interest.
The storm elite turned to him only for Leo to lunge, grabbing the creature's wrist as he swung a knee.
The alien dropped to one knee as Leo slammed his knife into the creature's neck. He pushed the dead alien to the ground.
It was then a bigger contact emerged on him. Leo turned only to see something smash through the tree trunk and threw him across the area.
Pyrrha watched a hulking beast of churning flesh and armor emerge, roaring at the Spartan whose body sprinkled blue…. Then yellow slightly as his shields dropped by 10 percent.
He glared at the hunter who emerged with another of its kind. Leo looked at the Answer, the SAW had been thrown aside when he was hit by the hunter.
"Hunter…" Leo started to say as he shook his head.
The creature roared and aimed its gun at Leo who rolled for his SAW. The massive bolt of plasma demolished a tree behind him which caused Leo to hum before bullets pinged off its shell.
The creature was busy turning to the others as Nora grinned and somersaulted. She smashed her hammer into the ground, triggering the explosives within. She flew into the air as the hunter turned to block the hit.
The 2-ton shield buckled slightly before the creature turned and brought up its gun to shoot Nora.
Pyrrha used her semblance to pull her back which caused the shot to go wide as Leo brought up his Sticky Detonator. The explosive cut into the hunter's armor, dislodging several of the worms within it.
The hunter roared in agony and turned to greet Leo, aiming its fuel rod at him. Leo hummed and waited for it to fire.
Pyrrha was about to say something when Leo activated the hard light shield, throwing the blast back into the creature.
The hunter staggered, its head turned into nothing but charred metal and writhing worms.
The beast collapsed, causing the other hunter to roar as he turned to the group in anger. Pyrrha watched as Leo drew an M9 grenade from his hip.
"Can someone get me an opening?" Leo questioned as the hunter advanced on him.
Leo darted around as the creature fired a beam of plasma from his gun as he hummed. Leo vanished into the fire as the massive monster turned to them.
JNPR readied their weapons to which the hunter roared at them once more. Leo sprinted out at the massive monster while it charged at them.
Pyrrha held up her hand to use her semblance when the hunter paused and blinked. It turned to see Leo had jammed the grenade into its shell. The creature roared before Leo backflipped off it.
The explosive detonated, blowing the hunter to bits as Leo hummed and looked at JNPR.
"That was awesome!" Nora shouted to which Leo shook his head.
"I told you that the Covenant is much dangerous than the Grimm," Leo stated as he turned to look up at the cruiser. "There will be more soldiers, the rest on my radar are probably advancing on the city," Leo said and checked the Answer for damage.
"They're certainly not like the Grimm…" Pyrrha started as she could only ponder what would happen next. "But we're not giving up, what's the plan, Jaune?" Pyrrha questioned and looked at Leo.
Leo hummed and looked up at the cruiser. He could see the silhouette of another which was descending on the city at the moment.
He could only ponder what had drawn the Covenant to this city. They had plenty of supplies and he doubted any of the Covenant cared about what the humans could offer them.
Still? Something had drawn them here. He'd stop them, even if he had to fight the entire invasion by himself.
"That cruiser is going to be an issue," Leo said and watched as several phantoms started to descend on the city.
"And all this fear and destruction will attract the Grimm." Pyrrha put in which caused Leo to turn to her with interest at the moment. "The Grimm are drawn to negative emotion. They attack the Covenant as well." Pyrrha said to which Leo hummed.
"Then we have more than one issue at the moment," Leo muttered as he shook his head with annoyance. "We need a plan, there's no way we can take down those cruisers," Leo stated and leaned his gun on his shoulder.
"We need to help people to safety before we do anything risky." Pyrrha put in which Leo nodded to. "Me, Jaune, and Leo could head into the city… You and Nora could open a route for them to extract themselves through?" Pyrrha suggested as Jaune turned to Leo.
The spartan said nothing, the covenant would continue attacking them over and over. He knew for a fact that they would be attacking as soon as possible at the moment.
And without reinforcements? He doubted they could defend the settlement from the invasion.
"Leo, can you help me figure out what the covenant soldiers are like?" Jaune questioned to which Leo nodded.
"Get into the city first, then I'll tell you what I can," Leo stated as Jaune nodded. "Knowing them? They've probably got most of the heavier units attacking… Either of you knows how to handle tanks?" Leo questioned as he, Jaune, and Pyrrha started their trek into the city.
"Uh…" Jaune said to which Leo hummed.
"Then focus on the infantry, I'll tackle the heavier units," Leo said as they jogged towards the city.
"What were those reptile soldiers?" Pyrrha asked and looked at Leo. "The ones with rifles looked like commanders that the shield and small ones followed," Pyrrha stated to which Leo hummed.
"The ones in charge are elites," Leo said as they leaped over a tree. "They're the Covenant's front line if they have fancy armor? Their high ranking, they have an honor code." Leo said as they passed around a fallen tree.
"And the ones with shields and small guys?" Jaune asked as Leo turned.
"Grunts are the small ones, their cowardly and easy to take down… But they come in packs. They're the most common soldiers." Leo said and watched a phantom fly overhead. "Jackals are the ones with the light shields. Their defense, scouts… Do you see one with a glowing helmet? Get down, those are snipers, their take your head clean off." Leo stated before watching the phantom drop off another lance.
A storm elite barked orders to a pack of grunts and jackals. Leo paused to look at the lance who advanced into the burning city.
"These cities have shelters, yeah?" Leo questioned to which Pyrrha nodded. "Then we fight our way up the street. I'll handle heavy units; you take care of what you can." Leo said as he hefted the Answer in his hands.
"We got your back, still," Jaune said as he turned around to look around.
"Ok," Leo said and vaulted over the tree.
He landed in a crouch and advanced into the city, hefting his gun and then started firing. The elite turned, his rifle firing off shots at the spartan who rolled to the side.
It took 5 shots to shatter the shield of the elite. The alien growled as Leo smashed into the alien, throwing him to the ground.
The group of jackals and grunts started firing as Leo smashed a foot into the soldier, killing it. Leo felt several shots ping off his body, chipping away at his new aura.
It felt like having an over shield, however? It didn't overwrite his training, Leo sprinted for an overturned car as the jackals and grunts fired.
Jaune rushed forward, sweeping a jackal off its feet and stabbing it in the head. Leo turned and opened fire, the bullets tearing into a pair of grunts.
Pyrrha threw Akouo which ricocheted off a car, slamming into one jackal into another. The spartan girl flipped over a barrage of plasma shots before slamming into a jackal.
She reclaimed her shield as Leo advanced into the street, stopping only to punch a jackal. He could only ponder how many soldiers the covenant had sent.
Leo drew his knife, stabbing it into one jackal before turning to a yellow shielded heavy jackal. He flipped the knife up and flung it into the soldier as it raised its rifle.
The knife sliced into the soldier's head, killing the Kig yar who collapsed to the ground. Leo plucked the knife from the body as he hummed.
"Nice work, but we got to keep moving," Leo said and sheathed the knife. "There are dozens of them… We need to keep moving." Leo stated as he looked at his motion tracker.
Then he heard an instinctive whirl which was echoed by a sled-like shadow slowly moving through the wreckage.
The wraith turned to the trio, leveling its canon at them. Leo didn't think, he acted. The grunt gunner opened fire at the trio, scattering them as he sprinted at the tank
Pyrrha watched as the wraith fired, treating the spartan as more of a threat than the others. Leo dove under the shot and leaped onto the hull. He turned to the grunt who leveled the gun at him.
A bullet ripped into the soldier, Pyrrha lowered Milo in its rifle form. Leo nodded and tore open the hatch before drawing his magnum from his hip.
The elite shouted in surprise as Leo grabbed his arm, aiming the tactical handgun at the creature.
He wretched the elite out of the tank and fired a round into the elite which killed it as he dropped a grenade into the vehicle.
Leo leaped off as the vehicle exploded into scrap. Leo looked at Pyrrha and Jaune while he nodded.
"Nice shot," Leo stated and looked at the remnants of the wraith. "This is what the Covenant does, they bring death to everywhere they go…" Leo muttered and looked up at the pair of cruisers.
If they wanted to? Both ships could easily destroy this city, perhaps they had arrived firing plasma torpedoes. It would have easily laid waste to the city.
"Spartan? This is the UNSC Gambit." Leo heard over his suit comm. "We have the enemy craft on the radar. What's your status?" Leo heard as he turned to Pyrrha and Jaune.
"Just engaged Covenant ground forces with backup," Leo responded as he looked up to see the Autumn class Cruiser. "I'm helping extract civilians. Covenant air has us pinned, how copy?" Leo questioned as he shook his head.
"We're handling it, sierra." Leo heard from Gambit. "You handle ground forces; we will send backup where we can. Gambit out." Leo heard to which he hummed and closed the line.
"Uh… So, I guess you brought that ship?" Jaune questioned at the cruiser overhead.
"Not exactly, someone must have told Beacon," Leo said and raised his gun. "One heavy cruiser is a match for those 2… Our priority is to get rid of the covenant on the ground and save civilians." Leo stated to which Pyrrha and Jaune nodded.
"Right, we need to reach the shelter," Jaune said as Leo and Pyrrha shared a look. "Leo, can you give people cover when we find them? I'll lead them to safety, you and Pyrrha are better fighters." Jaune said to which Leo hummed.
"Don't cut yourself short," Leo said and turned to Pyrrha. "Either of you. You might not be Spartans, but you can put up a hell of a fight. I'll cover you if I can, we should get going anyway." Leo said and checked the magazine to see a quarter was gone.
"Yes, there will be more soldiers coming sooner or later," Pyrrha said, holding her weapons at the ready. "But he's right, you don't have to be as good a fighter as us, Jaune. Professor Ozpin made you the leader for a reason." Pyrrha added as the screams of civilians drew their attention.
"That way," Leo said and looked at Jaune. "Lead the way, I'll follow behind. We will have to hurry; I have a feeling that when the covenant realizes this isn't going their way? They destroy everything." Leo said before the sounds of howls added to the wails of chaos.
Leo sighed, Grimm and Covenant? He'd rather deal with the inhuman monsters than any amount of the covenant.
"If we're lucky, they are too busy fighting each other to focus on people," Leo stated before watching a pair of phantoms start to drop off more reinforcements. "Ugh, there's no end to them…" Leo started as he turned to look around with shock.
Leo watched as a giant raven-like creature slammed into a phantom, dragging it to the ground. He didn't have to ask to know that it was a Grimm. He almost enjoyed watching their war, these weren't the Sangheili that had surrendered.
"This just became a free-for-all. " Leo stated as the trio continued their path into the city.
"And with innocent people caught in the middle," Pyrrha said, looking at Leo.
The spartan looked ready for war… And yet she knew he was just a teen like her.
She had several questions… And she WOULD get answers when this was done and over.
A phantom soared overhead with a pair of banshees escorting it. Leo shook his head and kept his gun ready at the moment.

Phew. Another chapter is done! I want to point out that the next chapter will be much shorter sadly… As for those asking why Jaune and Pyrrha aren't romantic? Pyrrha is starting to realize her bond with Jaune is more platonic. The next chapter will be in 2-12 weeks and will show Pyrrha and Leo bonding more and the end of the battle.
