Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of the Spartan and the Legionary. Enjoy the 1200-word chapter. I don't own RWBY or Halo. Monty Oum, Microsoft, 343, and Rooster Teeth do.
(UNSC Infinity)
Leo punched the elite, flipping his knife into the creature's throat as he turned. The alien collapsed to the ground, flickering out as it died.
Leo turned, his magnum smoking as he looked around the virtual battlefield. He was glad Infinity had self-sustaining factories aboard. It made it easier to use guns when you didn't have to worry about running into losing them.
"Spartan?" Leo heard before he turned, his magnum ready before slowly lowering the weapon as he did so. "Easy, I'm not hostile." Leo also heard as he holstered the gun on his hip.
"Sorry, sir," Leo said as the hologram vanished. "Reflexes. Did you need something?" Leo questioned as he raised his eyebrow.
"Besides wondering why you're so worked up? No." Laskey questioned while he turned to look around the room. "I'm still hearing about what happened in the city. Covenant is still the same, unlike the Arbiter's group." Lasky put in as he turned and allowed Leo to enter the room.
"Covenant is Covenant, sir," Leo stated, retrieving his knife. "What did you mean? I always run war games like this. I just stopped for a bit when we got here. I heard them state Infinity still has their factories online." Leo added to which the captain nodded.
He was well aware there were plenty of soldiers deployed. Infinity's forces were still busy securing the city and communicating with Atlas forces. There was plenty to do, plenty to communicate when it came down to it. However? Laskey wasn't ok with soldiers being deployed outside his command, someone needed to maintain the chain of command.
"How are you holding up so far, Spartan?" Lasky questioned to which Leo shrugged at the moment. "There's plenty of work to be done, I need every single spartan on deck. I don't know what the next move is, though. There's too much at stake for us to take the Covenant lightly." Lasky said before Leo looked at him with interest.
"The didact was the dangerous threat compared to his soldiers, sir," Leo stated, pausing as he did so. "The target is dangerous, but Infinity is stronger than his forces. It's why there are dozens of little cruisers compared to the ones they used." Leo added as he cracked his fingers.
"Just because we have the advantage doesn't mean they aren't dangerous," Lasky stated as he shook his head. "Your friend wanted to see you. She, General Ironwood, and Professor Laskey are coming to Infinity. Mind meeting us in the memorial park?" Lasky questioned to which the spartan shook his head.
"If it's needed, sir," Leo responded, brushing off his armor. "Their Spartan grade, or close to it. I don't know what the hell these people are like." Leo stated as he hummed to nod as he shook his head.
Lasky was silent, aware of what happened next. If things were like that? Then Lasky would be more willing to accept it. However? There are plenty of battles to be fought. If he didn't have Spartans like this? They'd be screwed over.
"How are things?" Lasky asked as both walked towards the elevator. "You and that girl seem to be pretty close to each other. It seems nice, having someone to hang out with." Lasky put in as he hummed.
"It's hit or miss at times; she has a lot of questions," Leo said to which he nodded as he shook his head. "There's a lot she doesn't have to know. I want to talk, but she asks plenty of questions I can't answer." Leo added, crossing his arms.
"Do you think Spartans are well known here? Because I don't think they know what one is." Lasky said to which he nodded towards the pair of ODSTs blocking the door.
"She looks the ones from centuries ago." Leo pointed out as he hummed. "She gave me… Something, like a power she had and they all use. I don't know what the hell it is. I don't think Dr. Halsey would understand it either." Leo stated as he brushed off his armor.
Lasky was about to answer, curious as to which Leo could only guess. Both were interrupted by a small voice, but a familiar one.
"If there was something I didn't know?" Both heard as they turned to look at the door. "Then neither Captain Lasky nor ANY of the UNSC does either. There is much here on Remnant that's vastly more different than any documented UNSC planet. It's quite fascinating how much there is we don't know." Halsey added to which Leo snorted.
"And the covenant is fine blowing it up, doc," Leo stated as Halsey shook her head.
"You're talking about the recreation of an intergalactic hegemony of religious fanatics," Halsey stated before walking closer. "Do you think they care? I'm sure enough bullets will take care of it; they always seem to." Halsey quipped to which Leo chuckled.
"Not every IV hates you, doc," Leo said before turning to Lasky. "I assume Dr. Halsey will be a memorial park? I thought she was busy in the field." Leo said as Halsey tapped on her datapad.
"Captain Lasky had invited me to personally serve as chief science officer currently," Halsey responded before looking up at Leo. "Also? I've heard that woman Spartan Cerule keeps company with will be there. It seems she wishes to speak to you. I find it amusing considering I heard you both had tried beating the other down…. Anyway? Captain Lasky?" Halsey questioned which got a nod from him.
"Go ahead, doctor," Lasky said before turning to Leo. "And also? Yes. I do, spartan. Even with all the issues, people have with Dr. Halsey? She's the smartest person the UNSC has. There's a lot of new ground to cover. We can't go throwing our weight around, expecting rifles and boots on the ground to solve this." Lasky said before Halsey nodded.
"It well, it seems Spartan Cerule understands that better than most," Halsey stated as she turned to Leo. "I am still curious about the Slipspace relic. Something had brought us here, and it appears whatever had done so? Had brought some important figures here. Have you told him about Noble Team?" Halsey questioned which caused him to turn towards her.
"Is it true?" Leo questioned which got a nod. "How? All of them minus Jun are KIA during Reach. How?" Leo questioned before he turned to look around.
Halsey was silent before a lieutenant turned. The trio was all smart enough to piece together what it heralded.
"Perhaps we should finish this talk later," Lasky suggested which was met by a nod from the duo.
Author Notes
Phew. Another chapter is done! I want to point out that the next chapter will be delayed. The next chapter will be in 2-10 months and will show both Pyrrha and Leo meet again as well as set up the rest of the arc. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
P.S: Next chapter is 900-6500 words at the moment and will be longer than this.
