Summary/disclaimer: Time for another chapter of the Spartan and the Legionary. Enjoy the 5000-word chapter. I don't own RWBY or Halo. Monty Oum, Microsoft, 343, and Rooster Teeth do.
The first Phantom exploded from a blast of the mammoth's M79 missiles which sent it spiraling into the ground. Leo cocked his BR before starting to open fire on another lance of Covenant soldiers.
He sighed before looking for the target locator, they needed the MARK 2457/37CM HRG… Or he believed the 'Mini MAC' as he considered it to have been called. NOBLE Team was already engaging the Covenant infantry and he knew more than they were all too prepared for the time being.
"They're engaging us on all fronts… Damn, didn't think they had this many men here." Carter stated before he sighed, looking around as he did so.
"We need to punch through them already," Leo stated before he headshot a pair of jackals as he sighed. "There's a lot more of them. Still? We can take them. It's those phantoms I'm worried about, they're going to be racking up the air support and it will only be a matter of time before they gang up on us." Leo stated as he started to fight the others.
There was a focus as of now. They continued to open fire as of the second. He and Six opened fire, shooting down into the rows of elites and jackals as the mammoth slowly started to roll fire.
He hummed before he questioned what the Covenant wanted so badly; they'd deploy an entire legion to halt the UNSC.
"Are you going to be, ok?" Leo asked as he hummed to himself before dropping a magazine and then looking across the other rows of Covenant. "There's a lot more of them than I expected to have. Ain't going to be enough still." Leo stated as he rolled his eyes, looking around as he did so.
There was a moment of confusion as he sighed, too thrown off for now. She hadn't a second before now. Pyrrha seemed as if she was going to leap downwards, transforming Milo into its xiphos form before she started to cut through into the Covenant soldiers.
Leo sighed and opened fire, his first burst bursting a Jackal's head open like a watermelon as Pyrrha stabbed a storm elite in the stomach, bashing it with Akouo as its shields shattered into pieces.
She charged forward, kicking a jackal and shattering its skull before she stabbed into another Storm Jackal. She felt more plasma fire rain onto her shield as she ducked under it.
"She's pretty damn tough," Emile said as Leo chuckled.
"Told you, like butter," Leo said before he turned to Six. "You guys handle the MAC. I'll keep them off the Mammoth, they disabled the last one from the air and I'm not letting them break this one as well." Leo stated as he leaped off the mammoth and landed in a crouch, dashing forwards before he questioned now.
"You good?" Leo asked as he grabbed a storm elite before stabbing his knife into the soldier, twisting it to the side.
"Yes, you?" Pyrrha questioned to which Leo hummed and nodded. "This is going to be a much longer day than we expected, isn't it?" Pyrrha questioned to which Leo hummed before he shrugged.
"Not really, this is pretty standard," Leo said before he rolled behind a rock as plasma fire raked their position. "There's a lot more of them than we expected and I don't expect them to easily give up so much, not with certain things when it comes down to it," Leo added before he sighed, questioning how many soldiers they had deployed into the field.
Probably a lot more than it had been or could have been. If this relic was as good as they needed? Well, there are a lot more forces to deal with. If anything? They hadn't yet seemed to find out just how bad things had gotten.
"We should push forward, there will be a lot more to cut down before we get to the cannons," Pyrrha stated as she hummed.
"Maybe, but there will be more of them. A lot more… They don't like to give up as often as you seem to think." Leo said before he looked ahead up the hill towards the guns. "I and Pyrrha will take care of this gun. We're meeting you at the next one?" Leo questioned to which there was a moment of silence over the radio.
There was something that hadn't yet cleared over the radio. He knew they had a mission to get done, but it was a matter of fact on how they'd be doing this for now. This was a lot nicer for now than anything else.
He sighed as he questioned his options and what to have done before now. There was still very little to do, but that didn't mean he couldn't stop them, couldn't prevent them from gaining a foot or even an inch on the battlefield.
He looked over the cover to see rows and rows of elites, jackals, and grunts. They had a very layered defense. He'd give them that but nothing else.
They'd fall before today was over. They'd fall before any other damage was done and he lost anyone else here. He wasn't losing to them on Remnant.
"Ok, we're heading out," Leo said as he pulled The Answer from his back and vaulted cover, gunning down a grunt and an elite as he watched Pyrrha do the same.
She spun and tossed Akouo forward, watching as the shield spun ahead and bashed an elite in the head, throwing it to the ground, watching as the others broke and charged them. Leo pulled his knife from his forearm and dodged, spinning under an energy sword while stabbing the elite in the back, Pyrrha managed to regain her shield in time to snap the elite's throat with a bang of the weapon.
He nodded as she deflected an energy sword before stabbing through the ranger and killing it as the blade pierced its body. She continued to surge forward as did Leo while the Covenant descended on them.
"Jorge, back them up. We're regrouping at the next cannon." Carter said before he gestured to the marines aboard the vehicle. "We get going now. the Covenant already know we're coming and the last thing we need is an army of them waiting for us!" Carter yelled to which the others nodded.
Jorge leaped down as the mammoth continued moving, the UNSC/Atlesian sortie ready for if they launched another attack upon the group.
(With Pyrrha and Leo)
Pyrrha turned and deflected an energy sword as another tried to swing from behind with a kick. She turned and brought her shield up to deflect it as a clang spit from her surroundings, cloaking everything in tedious noise. She failed to notice a trio of elites rushing her as two from a previous lance
"Behind you!" Pyrrha heard yelled as a third elite, a commander, rounded on her. "I got it!" She also heard.
Leo appeared, gripping the Sangheili around the throat and twisting with enough force to flip a car. The creature's throat snapped as it collapsed. The ranger who tried to strike her turned to engage the Spartan-IV as he turned to meet it.
Pyrrha turned and slammed Akouo into the ranger's knees as Leo hopped onto the shield Pyrrha yanked her arm back, allowing him to spring into the air. She turned and knocked aside an energy sword as the elite commander gripped her arm and kicked, Pyrrha ducked the hit as Leo landed a kick into the ranger, staggering.
Several of the elites growled before all but the ranger and commander turned and left them. It was then he remembered that Jorge was with them.
"I told you, they don't give up. I think you're angering them with how badly you're beating them." Leo said as he twisted his knife.
"Their very strong and coordinated for foot soldiers," Pyrrha stated to which Leo hummed.
"That's an elite for you. They aren't hard to take down, but they can back up their bark." Leo said as he turned to see Jorge engaging the others. "Damn, Spartan-IIs ARE demons," Leo said before he turned and rushed forwards after exchanging a nod with Pyrrha.
Pyrrha slammed into the ranger as it tried to use its jetpack, throwing it down to the ground as she seemed to be able to engage more. It roared and stabbed at her, gripping her arm as she twisted and allowed Leo to stab across her naval and into the creature's throat, she pivoted in place to engage the commander.
It swung as Pyrrha twisted around, kicking it around and allowing Leo to crack its shields with a punch. It growled only to be felt by searing pain as Milo pierced its chest and Leo's knife sliced into its throat.
The Sangheili collapsed to the ground, grumbling as its body died, leaving a corpse as the two regrouped, Pyrrha spinning Milo and looking at the rest of the bodies.
"There's still a lot more to clear out. We're going to be here a while." Leo stated as Pyrrha nodded and the two charged forward with Jorge dealing with and cutting down the rest of the last lance.
(Yesterday)
Leo could only sigh as he walked onto the beach. A few hours were all he had to collect himself… Well, up until noon tomorrow when all of the data came back in and he was allowed. There was still to have done, a lot more to have focused upon before now.
Leo growled for a second before slowly calming himself, marching out towards the beach. Pyrrha slowly turned to see the sighing, angry and annoyed Spartan-IV who couldn't be angrier with this. She was about to say something as he marched up, but very few things seemed to come out.
"They're going to need both of us tomorrow for a mission, top secret. Something about a covenant dig site. They said they wanted the best so I guess you and someone else." Leo seemed to question before now.
He slowly started to walk down, kicking his shoes off, and slowly started to sit down on the sandy atop the rock next to her. There was a sheer moment of silence before he spoke.
"And I'm guessing that we need to get going in the morning? There was a message on my scroll." Pyrrha stated as she watched as Leo nodded.
"Yes, there's a lot of things on the brain to focus on. Isn't it?" Leo stated before he questioned.
There was a lot more insanity in this world than he thought. A lot more he couldn't help but wonder if anything? All it did was rile him up, make him all riled up at the moment. She had a lot more to focus upon. It had yet to do much more than remind her what had been lost, what hadn't been found here.
Still? if anything? He hadn't the proper need to focus upon the future as she had. He knew that they'd be fighting tomorrow, fighting almost all of them and there would have been more to hunt down and destroy. The only problem was what they'd be going against.
Then again? To them? The Covenant was a stone in the lake, one which could be properly handled and disposed of given the right tools and gear. If anything? They just were giving the enemy more venom to destroy them with and a lot more ideas on how to do it with.
"This is going to be a bad night for us to talk, isn't it?" Pyrrha said, running her fingers across the stone as he shrugged, not entirely sure as to what could be focused upon.
He sighed, rubbing at his temples while he slowly started to look around, sighing and tilting his head.
He didn't at all understand what this was or what was coming. He did know something terrible was approaching them, but he didn't know what or how best to confront it.
"I'm sorry this isn't going to be the perfect day," Leo said before he shrugged. "Hell, I don't think I even know what the perfect day is," Leo said as he sighed, questioning what he'd tell the rest of them.
Pyrrha hummed and put her legs back into the water. Leo turned to her, rubbing at his temples, looking up at the ceiling.
"Are you going to be, ok?" Pyrrha asked as Leo hummed, looking at her, unsure of what to do next. "And it's fine, I didn't expect us to have an entire day to talk," Pyrrha said as Leo shrugged.
"I don't know if I'm going to be ok," Leo said while he looked up at the sky. "This planet is pretty damn weird. I'm not exactly a 'people person." Leo stated as he sighed, questioning what he hummed, looking around.
He turned towards Pyrrha before he rubbed his temples. There was something else here.
"Pyrrha, I'm still sorry, I got the call when I went to get new clothes," Leo said before he put his own feet back in the water.
"You don't have anything to be sorry about. That's just the way life is." Pyrrha said as Leo raised an eyebrow at her.
"I have to ask while I can. Why talk to me? Plenty of people don't know who you are and they aren't going to judge you for that." Pyrrha heard to which she smiled.
"Because you know what it's like to have to go through a life climbing and climbing the ladder, being what people want you to be," Pyrrha stated before she shrugged, kicking her feet back and forth in the water. "Your someone who's been through the wringer," Pyrrha stated as she sighed, rubbing at her temples.
"Life isn't always easy. You know that… Besides, you're a warrior. You're pretty damn strong for someone who's a mascot… Then again? I'm guessing that's part of the reason that this is all going down." Leo said as he shrugged, looking around.
"That doesn't mean it's easy. People expect me to be Ms. Perfect. Always the type of person that doesn't screw up doesn't make a misstep, doesn't falter at ALL." Pyrrha said as Leo nodded before he looked over at her.
There was only a moment of silence. There was something else between them. It hadn't yet seemed to have been the way it was. If anything? He was tired, focused on what he did next. He could only silence himself before questioning what to do next. If he was honest? She was a lot more powerful than she appeared to the point where he almost questioned if the Covenant were going to be terrified of her.
It'd make him laugh if not for the fact she was also a lot more broken than she seemed. There were holes in this, a lot more to focus upon.
"So, what's your next goal after this tournament? Do you keep saying you want to be more than Ms. Perfect? You could use the tournament as a way to express yourself." Leo said as Pyrrha turned towards him.
"If they're going to interview students as I expect? Then you can tell Remnant more about the real you." Leo said before he shrugged. "Can't say I've done the same, ONI would have chopped me up if I said anything about anything important," Leo said before he sighed.
"If they took so much from you? Why is it you like them?" Pyrrha questioned as Leo hummed.
"I fought the Covenant because the Covenant screwed over my life. I can't forgive them for dancing around, burning planets like mine down." Leo said as he rubbed at his temples. "You were brought up to be one of the best warriors? I was brought up to be a gun pointed at the covenant. I don't know if I HAVE anything to go back to." Leo said as he sighed, looking around.
"What about Commander Kurt?" Leo heard as he looked over at him.
"That man is the closest thing I have to family, Pyr," Leo said before he glanced down at his knees as he did so. "He trained us, gave us purpose, made us be the Spartans we are. If ONI wants to dump him in the garbage because he's different? They can get screwed. Kurt is a damn good man for someone who trained us." Leo said as he shrugged.
"He seems like a nice man," Pyrrha said as she hummed. "Mistral didn't have all these beaches, you know. There was always Grimm crawling all over them, all of them always looking for food and something else. I don't know if they ate people, but I've heard rumors, a lot of rumors." Pyrrha said as Leo hummed.
"They eat people, huh? Nice, Covenant did that from what I heard…" Leo said, his expression changing them. "We might have a damn ceasefire with some of them but they always leave out the fact that the Covenant were monsters who wanted to wipe out the galaxy. Everyone who wasn't part of their great journey, but no… We had to get here alone." Leo stated as he shrugged, unsure of what to do next.
There was something else here. A lot more here than what he wanted to focus on, bring down, even make it hurt… Yes, it would all come crashing down the more time he spent glowering over it.
There was a lot more on their minds, something new they had to focus upon, a lot more to have overcome. If anything? All he had done was push it forwards. There was something else here swimming in the water. Yet? He could have possibly snapped if he was honest. There was something else to have now.
Still? He hadn't the proper idea of this game for now and it'd be over with sooner or later sadly. To focus upon now.
He had a lot more problems on he seemed to focus before this was over for now. Leo tilted his head, looking around. The beach seemed a lot more like a cage. There was something else to question.
"What are we going to do?" Leo said while he cracked his fingers before he tilted his head. "There's a lot more to do. I want to focus a lot more on talking and relaxing, but I think it's going to be a long time." Leo still questioned what to do as of now.
Pyrrha seemed to sigh and pull her feet up to her chest while she questioned for now. There was something for her to say, but she didn't know what to say, only that this was going a lot better than she expected.
"I don't know," Pyrrha said as Leo sighed, not sure of what was going to come next.
"Well, I'm going to stay here until midnight so that gives us a few more hours to talk if you're alright," Leo stated to which Pyrrha nodded as she smiled, looking around.
"You enjoy this place a lot more than you want to say, yes?" Pyrrha said as Leo hummed, shrugging as of now.
"I don't know. I do know that this place is better without shrapnel and plasma fire ripping it apart. I'm a soldier, Pyrrha. I don't know about normal life like you now." Leo said while he tilted his head, unsure to question next.
There was a lot more to focus on now. He hadn't the proper idea and he didn't expect he'd have it anytime soon.
"Remnant isn't as much of a warzone as you think it is," Pyrrha said before she sighed.
"No, but back home is, Pyrrha," Leo said and frowned. "This place might be a little bit different, but I know it ain't going to last. The second the Covenant finds out how to kill more people? Their just hunt them down and kill them. They aren't big on prisoners or anything like that." Leo added as he rubbed at his temples.
"Doesn't mean we can't defend ourselves," Pyrrha responded as Leo nodded.
"It just means they're going to kill more people rather than give up. They don't want to surrender; they just want to kill people." Leo said as he shook his head. "Covenant isn't big on giving up. Ever. It ain't in their code, not even a little bit." Leo stated as he frowned.
"That doesn't mean you give up," Pyrrha said to which the Spartan-IV laughed.
"Now you sound like a Spartan," Leo said as he chuckled a bit more. "You're a warrior like me, the difference is you know when to quit. Me? I don't think I'll understand the meaning of the word ever." Leo said while he sighed, rubbing at his temples as he did so.
Leo didn't entirely know what to tell the Spartan woman. He knew she was good; he knew she was unfocused and unsure; he knew that she could be handling matters that didn't entirely focus on what was important. But. He also knew more than enough to tell that she had been hurt and was dealing with more and more pain. It reminded him of himself for now. Still? all it did was tell him what was happening with her, nothing was saying what was going on for now. There was more to this, a lot more to their game than what had been shown for now.
He just didn't entirely know how to handle it before now. There was a lot more he didn't entirely understand but he wanted to do. The Spartan-IV had his plate rather full and he knew that there was still so much more for him to have done before this ended, so much more to question and understand. Yes, all he knew was that she was hurt and slowly starting to fall apart. It was nothing more and nothing less than that. Nothing else came close to it for now.
So much insanity for now. He hadn't the proper idea, but he did know for now what was coming down the road, something else couldn't be handled now, but it could be handled sooner or later.
Then again? Things were always weird like that so he didn't entirely assume that such a thing would have been as bad as it. They weren't going to have done something, for now, half of what he had on his mind.
Still? He hadn't the proper focus for now. There was nothing else on his mind for now. There was only so much he could have done for now. There was a lot more unwilling to properly handle this, something that had run roughshod over all of their features?
If Leo was honest? He liked it that was none too happy for this, only that something had changed, rattled the cage more and more and more and more until it slammed off the hinges.
Yet? Part of Leo guessed as he seemed to be more and more focused upon what else he could have done, what more he wanted to do.
Pyrrha looked at him as the Spartan-IV seemed to clear his throat, brushing off the sand from his clothes as he turned, looking around the area with some interest as he pondered his options. She knew he was trying to question what to do, but so was oh so close to snapping sooner or later. All he needed was the right bait and the right ways to catch them. If anything? This just further pushed their ability to properly focus now. They had to get going sooner or later. He just hadn't the proper timing for this, the idea stung his mind and poisoned his mind. There was more going on.
He hadn't the proper idea of what to do next. He glanced around, sighing as he looked up at the sky. There was more on his mind… A lot more, and all this did was terrify him, terrify him more and more.
Pyrrha hummed and stood up, allowing the cold ocean to wash over her feet and legs. It made her feel way more at peace than she had before. It made Leo raise an eyebrow at her but say nothing. That was what she wanted? It's what she was free to do. She was a good person and part of the reason he enjoyed this planet was people like her who seemed to be as peaceful and worth saving.
If anyone made this planet a better place? It was her, all he was is a weapon pointed at the enemy and told to burn ammo and slit throats. It made him angry, but he was a Spartan. They had one goal in life: Crush the enemy and protect the UNSC even if that meant being as of now.
There was nothing else on the way, nothing that told him this couldn't be told before now. He didn't know before he handled before he questioned as of the second.
There was a lot more to focus on as of the time being. He didn't know what else was to be waited for. There was nothing else that could be done for him, but there was something else he could have done. And nothing he felt like doing to have improved it. He just had to go down swinging into the depths of hell.
He sighed, tired as of now, tired for what may or may not come. He didn't know what else was coming… He yawned, bored to himself while this came down to it. He rubbed at his nose, questioning what else was going to be focused upon for now. There was more to this puzzle then he understood. This hadn't been something he could have just swept aside and pretended didn't happen, nor was it something he could just sweep aside as if it were nothing, no, this had to be handled as of now. There was a lot more to focus on as of now. There was more to question before he sighed.
He looked at her, raising her eyebrows as she looked around before she seemed to be handled as of now. There was something else here.
"It's weird seeing the 4-time champion play around in the ocean like a kid." Leo joked only for water to get splashed upon his face as he laughed. "Don't start a battle you can't finish for now," Leo said with his smile, unsure of what was going to be happening next.
Yet? He didn't care much for now. He didn't care for now. He had a few more problems upon his mind when it came down to it. There was more to their game than he found and he laughed over and over at such a little thing.
He splashed back at her, there was more to focus upon for now. He didn't wish to have this happen
(Present times)
Leo flipped a Jackal over and stabbed it in the eye before sliding down and into cover. Jorge followed as Leo scanned for Pyrrha.
"She's a very skilled fighter for someone her age, ain't she?" Leo heard from Jorge as he chuckled.
"Eh, damn straight. She's pretty good for someone who's probably not been on the frontlines long." Leo said while he hummed, unsure of what was going to happen next.
"She reminds me of someone," Jorge said to which Leo turned before a burst of plasma fire forced the Spartans to the ground.
"Yeah, who?" Leo questioned with a raised eyebrow under his helmet. "I have one guess," Leo stated.
It made him frown as he realized what the woman was like as she knocked the legs out from under an elite before stabbing through its skull. She ducked behind Akouo as more plasma fire rained down on her.
"It's good to be a damn Spartan, sir," Leo said before he vaulted cover and rushed forwards, firing a few rounds which killed one of the jackals attacking her as he slid into cover.
"You know, being able to fight everyone doesn't mean you HAVE to fight everyone." Leo joked before looking over at the lance of elites. "There's a lot more of them. Probably called in reinforcements… Great, more targets to take down and more of them to shoot." Leo said as he shook his head.
He knew more than she what was going on, he knew that she was wondering how it had gotten to this, but he? Well, he was damn well trying his best, for now, trying not to get caught up in haves and have-nots.
"Is this what Spartans normally do?" Pyrrha questioned as more plasma fire raked their cover.
"Yes, it's just usually with more of them dying and less of us getting hurt, why?" Pyrrha heard from Leo as he turned and fired back in their direction.
"It's a lot more interesting than it appears," Pyrrha said as Leo hummed and shrugged, unsure of what to tell her.
"It has its up and downs," Leo stated as he returned fire in their direction. "They are not going to budge off the damn gun… Damn, this is Spartan Cerule. We are engaging heavy covenant forces, any additional units able to resist? Repeat, we are pinned down near Covenant AA emplacement, need fire support." Leo said before there was the sound of engines.
A Warthog packed with a squad of marines roared up the hill, its Vulcan cannon spitting out shell casings as he hummed.
He tilted his head before he clicked his fingers. He chuckled at the rest of the units as he did so.
He decided to slowly start to think before now. This seemed to question what may or may not come next. He didn't know what Pyrrha would do before this came down to it.
He charged forward, sweeping his knife into an elite ranger that tried to round on the warthog. The Sangheili collapsed to the ground, gurgling as its body convulsed and died.
He was greeted with more plasma fire forcing him backward before now. He didn't know what else was going to come and what was going to go.
"Thank you," Leo said to the marines before he drew his battle rifle and started to open fire, dropping shell cases and every single little thing.
It didn't mean much, but there was very little if anything in the way. Jorge and the marines opened fire as Pyrrha continued to advance, striking through grunts and other such things, there was very little room for error and the elites seemed to care for now. it didn't seem as if there was much choice, but it still made him as curious as ever, unsure of what to have done and what else was coming. There was no real answer.
Then again? When was there ever? When did anyone get a happy answer?
He surged forwards, looking around for covenant as they seemed to melt under UNSC fire. The warthog revved up to the IV as he turned to address them.
"Thanks, didn't remember Mammoths have warthogs." Pyrrha heard as he tapped the side. "We handle it, stay here. I think a giant damn gun pointed at them is just what we need." Leo ordered to which the driver nodded.
"They look a lot more different than the ones on Reach," Jorge said as Leo looked at a Zealot and hummed, nodding.
"Well, they're not as high-strung military as the ones from the war," Leo said before he looked at the tyrant AA gun. "Damn thing could put a hole in Infinity with enough time… I'll take care of the core; they're probably reinforcing the other gun… I didn't see any damn hunters." Leo said as he sighed and shook his head.
Pyrrha watched as the Spartan primmed a grenade and entered the gun. She turned to Jorge as she cleaned off Milo as he looked at them, there was a lot more interest, a lot more interested in what to have done for now. there was so much more before now. This didn't at all seem as if it questioned what to handle before now.
"Are you going to be, ok?" Pyrrha questioned to which Jorge nodded. "I'm guessing Spartans aren't so used to working with civilians?" Pyrrha stated to which Jorge chuckled.
"More than you believe. There are a lot more soldiers who were conscripts." Jorge said before the gun exploded into nothing.
Leo walked out, his SAW rested across his shoulders as he looked up into the sky. He was too unsure of what to do next. He hummed and questioned before now. A few Mantas were flying overhead as the gun collapsed to the side. He hummed before slowly turning to look at the others, unsure of what to say next.
"We need to move, the Covenant aren't going to let the other AA gun fall." Pyrrha heard from Jorge as Leo nodded.
"Good call."
