Everything for My Family! Chapter 3
Hello everyone, I am back with the third chapter of this challenge from one Gabriel Herrol. In this chapter we will be entering Fuyuki city and witnessing the first fight, only with Caster as the challenger instead of Lancer.
I do not own anything from the Fate franchise nor do I own the Harry Potter books and movies.
-Fuyuki City, Japan-
A tall dark haired man walked the treats of industrial Fuyuki wearing a black suit and trench coat as he navigated the streets of the bustling city, easily avoiding contact with anyone in the large crowds, while keeping his face blank.
Reaching into the pocket of his trench coat, he pulled out a package of cigarettes and stared at them as if wondering if he should indulge himself, before slowly sliding one up and lighting it in his mouth, leaving a trail of smoke in the crowd as he exhaled and continued his trip to a small, undescriptive hotel.
After a quick trip up the elevator, he found himself standing before a room marked as '703'.
After tapping out a sequence of knocks on the pale wood of the door, it was opened to reveal a beautiful, black haired woman of Asian descent wearing a formal Chinese assassin's attire.
Upon confirming who each other were, the man walked into the room.
"There was movement last night at the Tohsaka residence," the woman said as she closed the door and turned to watch the man relieve himself of the black trench coat adorning his shoulder. "I recorded the event, so please review it."
"Have the packages arrived?"
"Yes," she said at his quiet question, pointing to the bed on the right. "All of your required equipment arrived this morning."
"I see," the man said as he stared at the screen of the Hotel TV, grimacing slightly at the poor picture featured on the screen, revealing a green haired servant attacking the Assassin-class servant when Assassin attempted to sneak into the Tohsaka residence with golden chains and an interracially designed spear. "What do you think of this development, Maiya?"
"I believe the green haired assailant to be Lancer, Kiritsugu," Maiya said as she watched the video from her spot by her boss' side. "And he appeared to be lying in wait for Assassin, who he shouldn't have known was near due to the Presence Concealment of the Assassin class. I believe that Tohsaka knew Assassin was coming."
"They intended for everyone to see this from the start…" Kiritsugu muttered as he thought over the Masters currently in the war and about a possible Phantasm that Assassin could use to cheat death. "What happened to Assassin's master?"
"A notice was sent out that he took refuge at the church last night and the Overseer put him under his protection. The master's name was Kirei Kotomine."
Kiritsugu stared at the screen emotionlessly for a moment, replaying the 'fight' in his mind and going over what he knew of the young Executor.
"Maiya, send a familiar to watch the church for now," he said, getting his associate to look at him in slight confusion. "Have it remain just outside the perimeter of the church grounds so the Overseer can't detect it. I believe that Assassin might still be around."
"I understand," Maiya said before she closed her eyes and concentrated, taking command of her bat familiar that was resting in the trees just outside the Tohsaka family's gate, before having it fly off towards Fuyuki's sole Catholic Church.
'As a rule, a magus' greatest weak point is their arrogance,' Kiritsugu thought to himself as he looked over the assortment of weaponry resting on the bed that he had taken, ranging from high-powered guns to several knives. 'With the exception of a rare few, they are absolutely certain that the only creatures that can challenge them are other magi or Dead Apostles…'
He picked up a grenade launcher that he had acquired from his teacher a long time ago, testing its familiar weight, 'During a battle, they are sensitive to the presence of other Mages. They'll ignore attacks that are purely physical methods that don't rely on Magecraft as if their opponents are inferior and because they believe they can neutralize any mundane threat.'
'But most Magi can't comprehend the use of technology in a fight,' Kiritsugu continued as he hefted an M24 SWS that he had liberated from the United States military during a job in the Sudan.
"I have zeroed it at a range of five hundred meters," Maiya said from behind him as she finished her work with her familiar. "Do you wish to confirm it?"
"No," was his answer. "It'll be fine. Where is the special package I left with you?"
"Here," The woman said as she slid open the coat closet and pulled a long box from behind a wall panel before handing it to her accomplice.
Kiritsugu took the heavy object, before lying it on the top of the other bed and opening it to reveal a Thompson Contender. He grasped the lacquered wooden handle and hefted the gun in his right hand, a flash of memories of the times he had used this particular weapon to kill targets pouring into his mind as the weight settled into his hand.
"It's gotten worse, hasn't it?" He asked himself as he swiftly loaded the weapon, before unloading it just as fast and placing another bullet in the barrel.
-Fuyuki Airport-
"So this is Japan…" Irisviel said with an excited smile on her face as the white clad woman walked down the ladder from her family's private jet, her equally silver haired husband smiling lightly at her giddy excitement as he carried their bags down the steps, before the Homunculus turned back just as Saber walked out of the plane's door. "How was it Saber? What are your thoughts about flying through the sky?"
"I don't truly have any," Artoria said as she pressed a gloved hand to the side of her head to stop her golden hair from flying about in the hard wind that blew along the track. "It was rather boring, unlike what I had hoped."
"Mu," Harry said with a pout on his wife's behalf as he turned back to look at his servant, the mad excitement filling his gaze making the heroic spirit slightly uncomfortable as she was reminded of Merlin whenever he was in the mood to prank a member of the Round Table or cause chaos in particular. "I would have thought that someone from your era would be shocked by such an experience."
"I apologize then Master, Irisviel," Artoria said as she shook her head with her hands resting on the black suit that covered her body. "I am not some primitive being. When I was summoned, the Grail itself gave me knowledge of this era so that I could function without drawing undue attention."
"Also, because I belong to the Saber class, I possess the skill of Riding," the King of Knights continued. "It is possible for me to ride this sky machine."
"You can pilot a plane?!" Irisviel asked with stars in her eyes, while her husband chuckled at the giddy way she had said it.
"Probably," Artoria said. "My Riding skill applies to anything that can be 'Ridden'. I just have to sit in the saddle, hold the reins and manage by instinct."
Immediately upon hearing such a thing, Irisviel was overcome with the image of the Saber servant riding on top of a plane while holding reins that extended around the nose of the plane, getting a giggle from the woman much to Saber's confusion.
"Well it's too bad," Harry said as he handed Irisviel's suitcase to one of the castle Homunculi that were waiting by the airport doors for their arrival after removing his sectioned staff from the case and sliding it under his jacket to rest with his dozens of throwing knives that lined the interior. "I'd say you're the only servant to have ridden a plane in a living body."
"…I am terribly sorry about that."
"Oh, it's all right!" Iri exclaimed flustered as she waved her hands to dissuade any negative thoughts.
'It is a slight nuisance that she cannot astralize,' Harry thought to himself as he scrutinized Artoria's frame and the black suit that Irisviel had decided to force the tiny king into. 'I don't know how to describe it, but it seems that the hero known as Artoria is functioning under a different set of rules from the other Heroic Spirits…'
"Hmm?" Artoria hummed as she noticed her master's penetrating red stare, before turning her green eyes to meet his red. "Is there something the matter, Master?"
"Hm? Oh sorry," Harry said as he looked away from the petite knight towards the gates of the airport, idly noting that someone was watching their exchange through a falcon familiar that was resting on the gate. "I was lost in thought…"
"It's too bad that you're stuck in physical form all the time," Irisviel said, unknowingly answering her husband for the Servant. "Though I suppose it was fun picking out your clothes."
"I am used to dressing as a man, Irisviel…" Saber said with a resigned sigh, remembering all the outfits that her Master's wife had forced her into before they settled on the suit she currently wore, shuddering at the risqué dresses the woman wanted her to try on, before she looked down at the black fabric that nearly covered her entire body. "Will this 'suit' truly allow me to blend in on the streets for this era?"
"Yes," Harry answered as he looked over at Saber while helping his wife into the black sedan that was waiting for them. "The suit makes you look like you are a bodyguard for Iri, who is clearly a rich, visiting foreigner to the people that wander the streets every day."
"Though I did choose them to suit my own clothes," Irisviel muttered with a pout at her husband's oversimplification of the clothes she chose for the King of Knights.
"There's an amazing energy here!" Irisviel exclaimed as she watched everything move by as the car made its way down the streets of Fuyuki.
"… So what is our current objective, Master?" Saber asked as she looked over at the silver haired man that was amused by his wife's excitement.
"Hmm?" Harry hummed as he looked into the green eyes of Camelot's King. "Let's see… For now, I will be scouting around the area to ascertain if the situation changed at all before we arrived since we got old man Acht's information, while you escort Iri around Fuyuki so she can sight-see since it is her first time outside the Einzbern estate, and the pair of you can potentially throw off any spying masters and their servants. I know for a fact that pompous dick Kayneth and his errant student Waver Velvet arrived before we did, and I can assume that Kiritsugu Emiya is already here."
"The Magus Killer," Artoria mumbled. "What can you tell me about him?"
"That he's deadly," Harry said as mischief danced in his eyes as if he were thinking of ways to ruin the man's day without killing him. "He's considered on par with me, and we're both considered the best of the best when it comes to hunting down heretical mages. His Origin is called Severance, which allows him to destroy another mage's magical circuits…" At his Servant's gaping face, he continued, "Though I've never been able to find out how he does it…"
"Anyways," Harry suddenly exclaimed, snapping Artoria out of her contemplative mood with a clap of his hands and a grin on his face, before his hand went for the knob of the door on his left. "This is where I leave you and Iri, make sure to keep her safe, Arty!"
Saber's mouth dropped open at the obnoxious pet-name from her Master and before she could say anything, he opened the door and leapt out, rolling across the pavement before leaping to his feet and running down an alleyway with many civilians staring in shock after him.
After asking their driver to pull over in the crowded square nearly a mile from where her master had left them, the two women proceeded to walk around the town, with Irisviel often times stopping to stare giddily at the displays in shops and look around at all the exotic sights Japan had to offer the German Homunculus.
"It really is pretty," Irisviel said as she stared at the sun setting over the horizon of buildings. "Just from there being so many people living here, nighttime is so bright…"
Artoria smiled at the beautiful woman next to her before Irisviel caught sight of the ocean in the distance and began racing towards the beach with the Servant in tow. "Saber, do you like the ocean?"
"Do I like it…?" Artoria asked as Irisviel took up a comfortable spot on the rails that separated the city from the crashing waves. "In my era and country, it was always a source of constant invasion from barbarians that would come from the northern lands. I always thought of it as annoying…"
"I see…" Irisviel said sadly before she turned around to soak in the beauty the ocean unknowingly made. "That's too bad, for you who lived as King Arthur, you never had a chance to appreciate the simple things."
"That is true," Saber said as she brushed her hair out of her face as the sea breeze caressed her skin. "What of you Irisviel? Wouldn't you rather it was Master Harry, rather than me, that you could walk around the city with?"
"…Yes," she answered as she stared solemnly out at the sea.
"…Doesn't Harry enjoy spending time with you?" Artoria asked, a little confused at the silence of the Homunculus.
"Yes, he does," Irisviel answered. "But this Grail War is going to strain our time together and he must do what he can to ensure that I stay safe in the coming war. He's such a good man, always worrying about the safety of others over himself. It is how I know that he truly loves me, even if he spends a lot of time away from me."
Suddenly Saber felt a surge in magical energy and her head swung around to face the docks where dozens of cargo crates were resting, she reached out and grasped the albino woman's shoulder, getting a questioning look from the Homunculus.
"Is it an enemy servant?"
"Yes," Saber said as she stared off at the cargo dock, trying to determine which servant was sending the message. "It seems they are sending out a challenge to any servants that might be nearby."
"Saber, don't you think it's safe to assume this a frontal-attacking servant like yourself?" Irisviel asked as she raised a hand to keeping her blowing hair out of her face, her crimson eyes narrowed in concentration as she cast out her senses.
"If so," Artoria said as she looked back at the wife of her Master. "Then they are either of the Lancer or Rider class. However, there is no shortage of enemies that we may encounter."
"Let's go then," the Homunculus said as she pressed the switch her husband gave her inside her coat to signal to him that they were headed towards danger. "And find out who they are."
-Sometime earlier with Harry-
Harry smiled as he breathed the fresh evening air while he walked along the sidewalk. Both Irisviel and Saber's steady heartbeats reached him from the distance they were separated, filling his own heart with peace that his beloved wife and the servant of the sword hadn't been attacked yet.
The connection Harry had set up between them that let him monitor the two of them while they were away and made any servants that could sense bonds think Iri was Artoria's real master worked well for now, he could easily find the two of them, somewhere over by the bay. He had already checked out strategic points around the city since he left them, reinforcement magic enhancing his already great strength and speed. It seemed that the red Fuyuki Bridge was the perfect place for an Archer servant to set up shop to snipe enemies from afar, and he had already checked up with Sirius and Lorenzo, the two of them already set up shop in the mansion they had procured, young Lorenzo hard at work at his alchemical studies.
He sighed, collecting his thoughts. He's here to fight in the Grail War, not to have fun, tearing his eyes from the juicy looking dango stand. But he could not deny, that he intended to actually have some fun in the town.
He sighed again and turned his mind back to the task at hand. He thought about the news he had gotten from the homunculus maid at the airport before he had left with Irisviel and Saber, apparently the master of Assassin, Kirei Kotomine, was already out of the war from having his servant annihilated by the Tohsaka's Lancer. Harry just couldn't help but find something wrong with that scenario considering Kirei was Tokiomi Tohsaka's apprentice and a former executor of the faith, there was no way someone like that would make such an obvious blunder. "Tohsaka and Kotomine are most likely pulling a diversion. After all if Assassin is believed to be dead, then nobody would be expecting him to be scouting out the competition."
Harry frowned as he remembered the Overseer giving Kirei sanctuary, remembering that the priest that was acting as Overseer had a similar last name as Kirei. So the man was likely in on whatever Kirei and Tokiomi Tohsaka's plan was. Wasn't such interference from the Overseer forbidden during the Holy Grail War? The moment the war began, and Kirei was chosen as a Master, shouldn't the Church have sent somebody else to be Overseer?
Most likely the Church didn't care, given how close the Tohsaka family was with the Catholic Church, or they were in the dark about who was participating. He sighed and was about to continue his walk around Fuyuki, when he noticed an interesting pair of people.
His smirk grew. Time for some chaos and good old fashioned scaring of the newbie…
A young boy with a page-style haircut and his Servant were sitting on a bench in Fuyuki's park, the massive man analyzing maps he had recently stolen from a smalltime library, while the two were discussing their wishes for the Grail. The big, bearded redhead was speaking about continuing his legendary conquest to take the entirety of the world under his aegis rather than just the world he had known about in life, while the young mage wanted only to be treated fairly by his peers at the Clocktower.
"How foolish! You're in this battle just for your reputation!?" Rider exclaimed as the boy literally flew away after the massive man flicked his forehead. "Perhaps you should use the Grail's power to grow another a couple feet!?" The mountain of a man then looked up as he felt a presence on the edge of his senses, his eyes coming to land on a mischievously smiling man that was staring at the two of them. "Hmmm? This one looks like a warrior, but he sneaks about."
"What are you talking about?" Waver demanded as he looked up from where he was rubbing at the bright red patch on his forehead from where he had been flicked and froze at the sight of the man standing just a couple meters from them, shrieking in surprise as he backpedalled away from one of the two boogeymen of magus society. "H-Harry Potter!?"
"Greetings my king," Harry said with a polite bow, getting a smile from the taller of the two, before he turned his laughing eyes at the cowering boy that had taken to hiding behind his massive servant. "And to you as well, Mr. Velvet. It's too bad that you've stopped talking, your conversation was rather interesting."
Waver's face turned pale, when he realized, how close a man that was most likely an enemy master managed to approach them unnoticed. Rider simply looked unmoved, having noticed the man when he was walking towards them.
'Harry Potter is here for the grail, too!?' The boy thought in terror as he eyed the terrifying man. 'Its impossible to win now. Maybe we should just give up here and now…'
As if hearing his master's thoughts, Rider flicked the boy again in the forehead, sending him flying once more.
"So you are named Harry Potter?" Rider did not change his position as he held the map loosely in his hand, having no slightest intention to move from his spot. "I have not heard of you? Are you one of those enforcers I have heard about? I don't think my young master has done anything to call upon the actions of your group."
Harry chuckled at that, "Well, you could say I sort of am. Though, I have nothing against giving your master, even if his teacher, Lord El-Melloi certainly does. I was just walking past and saw you two, so I thought I'd pop by and say hello."
"I see." It was more than enough need for Rider to relax unlike his cowering master, who was doing everything he could to avoid the gaze of the Master of Death. "You've become involved in our conversation, so come, sit with us and tell me what you think."
"Whaaaaat?!" Waver could not hide his discontent at that decision in the slightest, right now he did not look like the genius he proclaimed himself to be as he stared at his boisterous servant with wide, terror filled eyes. "Seriously?"
"I apologize, I didn't truly hear most of what you were talking about. What was the topic?" Harry sat down on the sidewalk, face to face with the King of Conquerors, as if it's a normal thing to do for the two men, causing Waver to have a small mental breakdown as the monstrous heretic hunter matched gazes with Rider.
"We were speaking about our wishes for the Holy Grail!" Rider declared with a laugh. "What do you think of them?"
"Every wish is important, I suppose, but… Honestly?" Harry asked, Rider nodding at his query. "I don't think that you really need the Grail to fulfill your dreams. I'm sure Waver would get more respect if he worked hard… and perhaps grew another foot. While your's is a bit simple. If you're able to, just form a full familiar contract with the boy and set about in your conquest, there isn't much in the modern day that can stand up to a heroic spirit. You'd just need to rebuild your armies, which shouldn't be too hard considering if people find out you are Alexander the Great returned to life, you'd be surprised how many flock to your banner, especially Greece. I hear they still have your palace in good condition over there."
"Huh!?"
Rider burst out laughing. It was a deep, vibrating sound, which was coming from his belly rather than from his throat.
"Interesting! I think I like you!" Waver sputtered at his insane servant's words. "Personally, I'd like to see you in battle first, but I can feel you stand head and shoulders over most of the rabble I've seen since my summoning! I ask you here and now – will you join my army? You will be treated like my friend, sharing both the glory and the joy of conquest. What say you?"
"Haaa?"
Harry smiled, captivated by this charismatic man and the continued noises of protest the young Velvet was making at the words coming from his servant. "While I respect your dream of conquest, I'm not interested in fighting for it or for you, yet at least, for now I am already sworn to another."
"Why?" Rider said in disappointment as he stared at the white haired man. "Will your pride not let you join me?"
"No, I just wish to keep my beloved wife alive in this conflict, even if I don't care much for the grail. Sorry." Harry said as Rider sighed.
"You've already swore your loyalty to someone else? What a shame."
"Don't be that way, King of Conquerors." Harry said with a smile as he stood from his seated position, turning around and making his way away from them, headed towards the port as he felt Saber and Irisviel moving that way. "It would be an honor to fight for you, great King of Conquerors. Perhaps if you win this war, you'll extend your invitation again."
Iskandar laughed at the man's parting words while Waver gaped at the man's retreating back. "I'll try to hold you to that! Farewell young magician!"
His young Master stared at his servant without a shred of understanding on his face. "Don't look at me like that, boy. Anyway, it's not the time to think of death, first you must let yourself truly live!"
-Fuyuki Shipyard-
"It is good you've come," a man's voice with an Irish accent called out from among the shipping containers, leading Saber and Irisviel to look over at a man wearing a torn blue cloak with a fur-lined hood covering his head and a black undershirt that revealed his collarbone and formed over his abs like flowing water. Around his waist was a strange blue and white kilt that was held up by an armor link belt and in his hands resting over his shoulders was a staff that resembled a shepherds crook. "It's nice to finally have someone answer my challenge. Everyone else have been cowards simply hiding in their little holes."
"Hmm, that's some nice fighting spirit ya got there little lady…" The man said as his red, slitted eyes did a once over of Saber's body, taking in her ready stance and the protective position she took in front of the white haired woman the moment she noticed his staff, having come to the clear decision that this was Caster. "You must be Saber."
"That I am," Artoria said as with a flourish of her hand, her suit was traded out for the armored battle-dress she had been summoned in, Excalibur forming in her hand, hidden from the world with a blanket of wind, she looked back at her master's wife with a nod. "Please be cautious, I leave my back to you Irisviel."
"Good," the obvious Caster said as he twirled his staff like it were a spear while the homunculus nodded to the Saber servant's words. "I've been itching for a fight since my master summoned me, and I really don't want to wait any longer!"
The two tensed for a moment, before with a burst of speed, both Servants disappeared from their spots and met in a sudden clash in the middle of the yard, rune-covered staff met invisible sword with many swings, yet their weapons never meeting the bodies of their adversaries.
The moment he saw the fight beginning, Harry decided to take a different approach compared to simply walking out there and coming in the sights of any enemy masters and servants that might have been watching the fight. He had to admit that Saber's armored dress did her figure justice, it was a perfect mix of feminine and martial.
'If I were a stuck-up prick like Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald, where would I be hiding?' Harry asked himself as his ruby eyes scanned the area of the docks, muttering to himself as he found his current position to be tactically wrong if he wanted to see anything.
Looking to the large crane that was used to move the containers, Harry paused as he found a much more delicious prize in the form of Kiritsugu Emiya climbing its way up the ladder. 'This is going to be fun!'
With mischief clear in his eyes, Harry pulled out his invisibility cloak and ducked under the cloth, before climbing the ladder and sneaking up behind the Magus Killer, getting a good look at the man that rivaled him for effectiveness in taking down heretic magi and Dead Apostles.
Kiritsugu was surprisingly physically unimpressive considering how much he had heard about the man and the fact that just like Harry, he was considered a boogey man to magi everywhere. He was a plain sort of handsome, not enough to stick out in a crowd for good or bad reasons, a man that could disappear easily. From the way Emiya was looking around through the scope of his rifle, Harry could tell he was the real deal and was every bit the assassin he had heard about through the grapevines and reports of battles he had been in.
Wasn't going to stop him from pranking the man…
Harry acted just as he saw the barrel of the gun turn towards the lovely form of his wife and he heard Kiritsugu mumble about taking out Saber's Master. He cast a quick, silent spell that had the firearm begin to turn red-hot, causing the Magus Killer to drop it in pain and shock, sending it careening down to the ground below the crane, cursing under his breath as Kiritsugu proved that he wasn't some rookie, by ripping his combat knife from his boot and taking a ready stance in a matter of seconds, scanning every single area around him. "Maiya, I'm under attack! Can you see anything around me?"
"Well then, that's one way to stay on top of your game," Harry's voice said from behind the man, leading him to whirling around to find the source, his knife finding nothing but air. "Though I heard that you were a lone wolf, it's rather surprising that you have an accomplice."
"Show yourself!"
"Really…?" Harry asked with a deadpanned tone of voice, a comedian sweat drop forming on his brow. "The assassin that was about to shoot somebody when their back is turned is telling me to show myself? How ironic…"
Suddenly Kiritsugu's radio sparked with the sound of his associate's voice, relaying that she couldn't see anyone, getting the man to grimace, before he tried to locate his quarry through subtle Magecraft meant to augment the senses, still finding nothing.
"Are you a master or a servant?" Kiritsugu asked, never letting his eyes rest on one place for too long in case his opponent decided to get the drop on him.
"Ask nicely Kiri-kun."
The Magus Killer growled at the mocking tone and the affectionate butchering of his name as his eyes moved to where the voice had come from, impressing Harry somewhat with how close he was. "Archer? Can you see anyone near me?"
Harry blinked at the revelation of which servant the notorious assassin had summoned and strained his senses to see if he could hear anything from nearby, only to find himself unable to hear the reply, though from the way Kiritsugu was scowling, it was clear his servant couldn't find him either.
Harry silently moved behind the man and smacked the door of the crane's control room, making Kiritsugu twirl around and leap forward, thinking his quarry had made a mistake.
However, before his blade made contact with anything worthwhile, the man found himself flipped over a tall body and his knife relieved from his possession, and a tall, very familiar albino man appeared from underneath a cloak that looked to be like reality itself becoming water for a moment.
"You're rather good if you were able to get such an accurate shot on me when I'm invisible, Kiritsugu Emiya," Harry praised the annoyed mercenary as their eyes locked and Harry could see the barely there widening of the man's eyes as he realized just who he was looking at.
"Harry Potter-Black, the Einzbern's Attack Dog…" Kiritsugu muttered as he stood up from his position and made to back away, only to find himself halted by the edge of the platform, unable to go any further lest he wished to fall. "I thought you were going to be in the Grail War, but I thought you'd be a master rather than some glorified back-up."
"Maa, maa," Harry said with a disinterested look on his face as he waved his hand, noting with interest how Kiritsugu immediately zeroed in on the appendage as if it had done him great dishonor, clearly showing how he wasn't underestimating the Master of Death in the slightest. "There's no need for insults to be thrown around, I'm merely doing what I was hired to do, just as you are Emiya-kun!"
"Now," Harry began, getting Kiritsugu's immediate attention on him. "What should I do with you? You're clearly an enemy Master, and you clearly have a bead on my beloved wife if the way you were looking at her earlier was any indication-"
Harry didn't get the chance to finish, because as soon as Kiritsugu heard the threat in the man's words, he pulled out a glock that had a silencer on the end, before he began unloading bullet after bullet into Harry's chest, turning his pectoral muscles into Swiss cheese before he finished the clip.
Harry made choking sounds to make it seem like he was choking on his own blood and began stumbling back until he reached the edge of the crane with Kiritsugu following him from a short distance and waiting until the silver haired man fell over the side.
"So much for the Scarlet Devil," Kiritsugu said to himself, before looking over the edge to see if he could locate his fallen rifle, idly noting that Caster had managed to injure Saber with a burst of fire and that the man's hidden master was growing impatient and trying to move the battle ahead.
However, before he could begin his descent to retrieve the fallen gun, a tap to his shoulder made his eyes widen, before he quickly turned around just to find himself staring into crimson eyes before three small knives pierced his left shoulder and he fell back from the force over the edge of the crane's platform, cursing about his stupidity in not checking for a body.
-Saber and Caster's Battle-
Their strikes at each other were fierce and the air swarmed like an angry tempest around them, Saber's invisible blade sometimes ripping through the steel of lamp posts and cargo containers as the Caster's Staff and her sword made contact with one another.
"Tch," Caster grunted as his newest strike was repelled by the invisible weapon of his enemy and he was forced back by another connected blow that led to the concrete beneath his feet being destroyed.
'So this is a fight between servants…!' Irisviel thought to herself as she steadied her white hat against the powerful winds being let off with each swing and strike of the two powerful beings attacks, her red eyes scrutinizing the way the Irishman fought. 'That man is a Heroic Spirit from the Caster class, but he fights like one would expect from a Lancer… this is confusing…'
'An opening!' Saber thought as she noticed the man slip on some of the upturned rubble that had been formed from the battle from the once smooth ground.
Just as she was prepared to capitalize on what would be a clear path to victory, Saber was forced to raise her sword to block against sprig of wood that shot at her from the ground, sending her flying back from the force of the strike, before executing a flip and landing on the ground in a crouch.
"What's wrong, Saber~?" The Caster servant asked with a teasing glint in his tone as he twirled his staff, which much to Artoria's surprise, showed no nicks or damage from their skirmish. "Your offense is weak."
"Tch!" Saber growled out as her green eyes stared down the blue haired man with annoyance at his taunting. 'There should be a way for me to get through his guard. But there is nothing lacking with the way he wields that staff, almost like it were a spear, and he is able to cast spells in complete tandem to make up for any inconsistencies without any impairment.'
'Again, with that damn sword…' Caster thought to himself as he eye'd the empty space that resided within the Saber servant's grasp, a small line of blood rolling down his cheek from where he had been cut with the weapon. 'This woman is tough!'
"Haiyaaaa!" Saber roared as she leapt through the air and descended upon Caster with her sword reared back to cut into him while her adversary took a ready stance in order to block her blow with his rune covered staff.
-Harry and Kiritsugu-
Caster and Saber's duel was proceeding in earnest from what Harry could see from his spot on the edge of the crane where he had just sent Kiritsugu tumbling, a chaotic smirk on his face at the sight of the Magus Killer holding onto a rope for dear life, the man glaring up at the albino Master of Death. Then the crashing and clashing of weapons ceased for a moment as Saber and Caster exchanged more words.
'Heh. Heroes of legend can afford to be talkative, I guess,' Harry thought to himself with a smirk in the direction of his cute King of Knights and the Irishman that was fighting her, idly wondering who he could be out of the heroes he knew about from his mother's homeland. 'Time for work.'
He leaned down and summoned the rifle Kiritsugu had been forced to drop with a flick of his hand and began checking the sights, casting a quick 'reparo' to fix the damage to the scope that had been caused by its long fall to the ground.
Before he could finish setting up, Harry gave a small chuckle when he saw the origin of the thunder and lightning that filled the sky, as he watched Rider, aka Iskander, aka Alexander the Great, whom he had just met earlier in the day, land and spread his arms out wide as if having achieved a great victory for his landing and he bellowed something about how he wanted the two formerly battling servants, to join his army for his newest conquest of obtaining the Grail.
If anything, the immortal wizard found it hilarious how the boy he recently met reacted to his servant's declarations by exclaiming the man's designation to the sky in annoyance, especially when Artoria refused vehemently while the Irish Caster refused with a hearty chuckle.
However, if there was one thing Harry hated about the entire exchange, was the nasty tone that Kayneth began to speak with to Waver, the arrogant Clocktower Instructor launched into a cruel explanation about how he was going to slowly torture the boy to death for his 'impudence' in stealing 'his' relic. Though Harry was happy to notice that Rider had put a reassuring hand on the boy's shoulder, and that Kayneth's Caster servant wasn't exactly happy with his master's words.
'Enough of this!' Harry snarled in his head before he lined the rifle up with where he had spotted the master of Caster on top of the storage building during his earlier tussle with Emiya. However just before he could pull the trigger to messily end Kayneth El-Melloi Archibald's life with a high-powered bullet through the cranium, he was barely made aware of a figure clad in green leaping onto the girder beside him with a familiar Magus Killer under its arm and closing on him fast.
'Cra-!'
The next three seconds for the immortal was somewhat of a blur, as he found himself punched with the only real sight of the clear servant being a swishing cat-like tail and black gloved hands shaped like claws.
Punched…
And sent flying towards the battle.
And he seemed to be missing his newly claimed gun.
Kayneth El-Melloi, head of the prestigious El-Melloi family and slightly noted instructor on Evocational Theory in the Clocktower, felt as if the spirit of Death itself had held him in its bony grasp for a minute and he had frozen in fear, pausing in his argument with Rider, and his own servant, blue eyes scouring for anyplace that an enemy might spring out at him.
Then it was gone.
As if it had never existed.
'That was strange,' He thought as he rubbed his neck with his gloved hand, sneaking a look to the blob of mercury that sat behind him to act as his defense against a sneak attack, before the nobleman shook the feeling off and focused once more on the battle below him, a sneer on his face at the audacity of the muscle-bound Iskander after the ancient king's rebuffal of his claims of mastery.
"The Heroic Spirits invited by the Holy Grail!" Rider bellowed as he looked out to the supposedly empty shipping yard, getting perplexed looks from the other two servants present along with his thoroughly annoyed, scared master. "Saber, Caster, you have fought splendidly, and your symphony of combat has doubtlessly drawn others here. But they skulk about in the shadows. Hear me! Come forth, my fellow Servants, or face the scorn of Iskandar! KING OF CONQUERORS!"
Caster chuckled in amusement at the man's mighty bellows and flamboyant personality while Saber gaped at the giant of a man, then all three quickly tensed, followed by Caster and Saber spinning as they felt something rapidly approaching and both blinked as a person clad in red with white hair crashed into the roof of the building on their left, just seven feet below the position of Caster's master, the aristocrat's features paling as he caught sight of the man's features, before the force of impact threw the projectile off the building at the same angle he came in, and the person hit the already-damaged shipping container on their right, finally coming to rest in sort of a casual sitting sprawl with his back against the metal of the container.
Sighing heavily, Harry looked up and took in his currently gaping audience, enjoying Irisviel's blush at the sight of his exposed torso after his shirt had been ripped by the attack by who he supposed was Archer, and Kiritsugu's bullet holes, and Artoria's gaping face at the sight of her master being the one who had abruptly entered the battlefield in seeming answer to the Rider servant's call.
He raised a hand in greeting as his dislocated shoulder fixed itself on its own and his broken ribs noisily snapped back into place, getting disturbed looks from the gathered observers.
"Hey."
Before Artoria could respond after she snapped out of her surprise, she spun to her left and raised her guard as an arrow flew directly at the man from the same direction that her master had flown from, deflecting the fired armament. Caster quickly moved away in the direction of Kayneth, who was now obviously no longer in as good of cover as he'd thought he'd been.
All the heroic spirits looked up at the green-clad figure standing tall high above, a bow held in the cat-eared woman's gloved hand as she stared down at the group with a scowl at the fact her arrow had been stopped from delivering justice against the man that had attacked her master.
"It is nice to meet you all."
The new voice was like a melody that you'd hear on a refreshing spring day and the servants, plus masters, turned to find the green haired figure that had supposedly killed Assassin sitting on a lamppost with one leg dangling down leisurely, a cloud of golden particles dissipating, presumably from his arrival. He waved to the gathered servants with a carefree smile on his/her beautiful face, none of them being able to tell whether or not he/she was a woman or man.
"Well met, both of you!" Rider declared with a proud smile on his face for the arrival of the two servants, as well as the man he had met earlier, the proud conqueror intrigued by the man's regeneration. "I welcome you all to this banquet of heroes!"
Irisviel quickly made her way over to her husband and their servant, hiding behind Saber's back from all the new, possibly deadly faces.
"It was an interesting battle for a start," the green haired servant said softly, his smile still present on his face as he observed the gathered servants. "I apologize for not showing myself earlier. But I was enjoying watching the fight, and didn't wish to interrupt." He then looked towards the horizon, back towards the city as if sensing something. "I apologize, but it seems my Master has had enough excitement for tonight. May we all meet again."
Saber lowered her sword slightly as Lancer turned into a shower of gold to show that he had astralized, but kept on guard, mixing her gaze between Caster, Rider and Archer. The Archer servant that had sent her master flying like a ragdoll was still ready to pierce either of their chests with arrows from the way she stood. She was sure that she'd be able to stand well against the Archer, but who knows what the woman's power was.
Harry himself could just see Kiritsugu in the shadows behind his servant, reclaimed rifle pointed in their direction, though the man hesitated for a while. Maybe he should just get rid of this problem and let Archer crush Saber here and now.
Knowing the identity of his servant and the Noble Phantasms she possessed, Archer would probably be able to kill the swordswoman, if not take down the Caster. But he didn't doubt that if they start to fight seriously right now, using all they've got to kill each other, it would take away the aura of mystery from his servant and make her known to the opposing teams…
He also didn't know if Rider would join the fight against his servant given the way he had called them all out.
No. He wouldn't risk it just to take out one servant in the first real battle of the war. Especially when he could see the supposedly dead Assassin sitting atop the crane, watching the events below. Probably acting as a scout for Kotomine.
Kiritsugu took a deep breath, focusing on pushing his warring emotions down - one wrong decision and they would lose everything. It was too soon for the identity of his servant to be let out. Watching the other servants do battle will help them chart a clear path to victory or at least will show them the weaknesses of their enemies, which he, Maiya and his servant would then exploit.
Moving back away from the crane as he made his move to get away, making sure to stick to the shadows so as to not be seen by the others, Kiritsugu mentally called to Archer to have her stand down, which the bow-wielding woman did, relaxing her tense posture while she kept her feline eyes on the enemy in case the enemy tried anything. Then, when he was far enough from the other servants' eyes, he lit up a cigarette, thinking.
This chaotic clash was informative, it revealed useful details about their enemies, except for the Lancer and Berserker servants, Lancer who had just sat and watched the battle, and Berserker who had never even shown up. He could tell that Lancer was rather powerful, considering the waves of power that had wafted off the servant while he just sat on the pole.
"What should we do?" Maiya asked quietly, just as she joined him. It was clear that they must adjust their tactics, especially with the rather clear grasp on life Harry Potter had, given how he survived having his chest turned to Swiss cheese and survived again when Archer launched him through a building, a shipping container and concrete. Kiritsugu was already dismissing him as a Dead Apostle after a moment of thought.
"I need to reconvene with Victoria," Kiritsugu said after a moment, tossing aside his half-finished cigarette. "She might have a good grasp on who the servants are from where she has been viewing in our base. And we need to make new plans for Harry Potter. He's clearly more powerful than I expected, I may need to use an origin round to beat him. For now, I want you to monitor El-Melloi's hotel and inform me when the best time to blow it up happens."
Maiya nodded and the two went their separate ways, Archer dematerializing once she was sure they were far enough away.
Rider stared at the golden mist in the place where Archer had stood just a moment ago as the cat-eared servant disappeared and Lancer decided to follow suite.
"Well I guess that's our cue," Harry said as he stood up, his body showing naught a scratch on it despite his earlier condition, making the remaining teams look at him as he cracked his neck. "You did well, Saber. Let's call it a night, no need for us to kill everyone on the first night after all."
Irisviel smiled as she glomped her chuckling husband's arm, visibly pleased at his praise. Saber nodded and moved to fall in step with the man and his wife, despite the gapping features of Waver and Lord El-Melloi.
"I'll see you tomorrow or the day after, big guy!" Harry called over his shoulder at the burly Rider. "Have fun until then!"
The last thing they heard as they left the shipyard was Rider's great laughter while Waver exclaimed his great, and utter confusion to the world.
Well here you go guys, I hope you all liked the chapter, even if it was late in coming. I hope all of you recognized the servants that I had replace a few key players and liked the battle at the shipyard.
I decided to not bring out Berserker Lancelot for this fight, because I was getting tired of writing this chapter, but I will probably introduce him soon. Mostly thinking about having him attack Saber and Irisviel while they are exploring by having Kariya and the two somewhat cross paths, in that Berserker saw Saber from afar and went, well… Berserk.
I will be working on updating or writing some new/old stories this week, for I suddenly find myself with a bunch of free time after my Samsung phone was stolen, which means my beloved FGO was taken from me. It'll be a little while before I get a new phone and re-download the game, so that gives me plenty of time to write.
