Hello everyone, this is Iskander Mandoraekon. I have already posted this story on ArchiveOfOurOwn, but I've decided to still add this to the Drabbles. Before you start panicking that I've decided to switch websites, I've decided to start writing over on Archive after growing tired with how out of shape Fanfiction's website is getting with all the bugs that keep popping up despite assurances that they've been fixed. This is going to be my first story over here on Archive.
This is a Dark!Naruto story where he was sealed away over a million years ago after he sealed Kaguya inside himself to stop her from rampaging, becoming the Juubi Jinchuuriki, with the only problem of the deranged Otsutsuki constantly whispering in his mind and corrupting his mind. The story takes place in the world of Young Justice with a mixing in of elements from Teen Titans and Justice League Unlimited, so don't be surprised if you see characters from the other DC animated series popping by to say hello.
Just so you are understanding, when I say Dark!Naruto, it means he will be sort of like an Evil Overlord version that will be mucking up the DC. I'm writing this story as a way to get all my frustrations and other darker impulsive fantasys out of my system.
Chapter 1: Awakening
It was a peaceful day in the wilds of the park surrounding Mt. Kurama of the island nation of Japan, the beasts were roaming, and the birds were singing their midday songs, while the people of the nearby city were scarce, kept away by their jobs.
All in all, it was a peaceful day for animalkind and nature.
However, as always, everything is capable of changing in a moment.
"It's here," the girl muttered to herself as she appeared from behind a large oak, scaring off the wildlife with her sudden presence. "It has to be…"
She was adorned in a heavily concealing blue cloak that was held closed by a gold pin bearing a ruby in the center of its mass, her pale face nearly covered in concealing shadow with the exception of her mouth and chin. The hooded head turned to look towards her left and then to the right as she searched for her quarry, an old, worn map held in a pale hand that exited the folds of her cloak for a moment as she scanned the ancient drawn lines upon its surface.
She could feel a powerful presence, calm and peaceful like nature itself, but there was also the underlying presence of an incredible chaotic energy that she wouldn't have been able to sense if she hadn't been looking specifically for it's presence, "Over here, perhaps." She again muttered as she began climbing partway up the sacred mountain of Japan.
It took the girl no more than ten minutes before she finally located something tangible in her search, settled on the mountain's rocky face, hidden by several boulders that she could tell at a glimpse were not naturally formed, obviously placed there to hide what she was looking for. A symbol. A strange rune that a person would not find in any of the known magical languages of the world, and yet carried a deep sense of history and power in it for those that might look upon it.
A circle carved into the rocky face of the mountain, with a swirling line stretching from the perimeter to reach the middle.
The girl thought it looked like a whirlpool. Exactly like the one that was situated on the upper left corner of the map she had appropriated from the British museum. Only without the deep red color filling the inside of the circle.
"Oh mother, please let what I seek be here…" Came an almost intelligible mumble from the girl as purple eyes glinted in the shadow beneath her hood. "I need it to be… to stop him…"
Cautiously, she pressed a pale finger against the rune and almost immediately tried to jerk back as she felt something syphon her power through her extending appendage, only to find her body unable to move from its bent over position. Her eyes widened in shock as the pull became worse, leaving her rather lightheaded, before the ground beneath her gave way to nothing but empty air, dropping a now shrieking girl into its depths.
"Aza-"
Whatever was to be said ceased a moment later before it could be completed as she met the unyielding hardness of the earth and fell unconscious.
In a large office on the other side of the island nation, a man with pitch black hair and a pair of onyx-colored eyes was standing behind a rather extravagant desk as he spoke to a pair of fellow businessmen about a joint venture between his and their companies that was estimated to bring about a great deal of profits for all involved.
While clearly of Japanese heritage with his features, he himself was rather tall compared to his guests and fellow countrymen, standing just over six feet as his sharp and angular face was set in a near emotionless mask.
Suddenly, he felt a burning sensation on his right arm, making his eyes widen imperceptivity as he pretended to be checking his watch while bringing up his arm and rolling back his sleeve to see the edge of a glowing swirl symbol just barely obscured by the sleeve of his suit. His eyes then flickered over to the third set of samurai armor lining the wall, where he saw a pair of eyes immediately lock with his from inside the suit and he gave an imperceptive nod.
"I apologize Fujimura-dono, Miyamoto-san," he spoke up, interrupting the elder of his two guests who had been pointing out another benefit of joining their companies. "But it appears that something important has come up, and I need to leave immediately. I hope I do not dishonor you with cutting our meeting short, I can clear my schedule to continue our talks as soon as I am able to return."
"It is no problem, Uchiha-dono." Eijiro Fujimura assured the man as he stood from the rather comfortable chair provided his old bones at the start of the hour-long meeting, a hand resting on his aide's forearm to stop the man from belligerently berating their host for putting a premature end to their long sought and awaited meeting. "Is there any way that the Fujimura group could help?"
"I'm afraid not Fujimura-dono." Uchiha answered with a grim look on his face. "It is a family matter of dire importance."
"Very well," the old man nodded, fully, yet not truly understanding, the matter. "As we will be busy, we will arrange another meeting for the end of the next two weeks. Have a good day, Uchiha-dono."
After the office was vacated, the CEO made his way over towards the western corner of his large window and disappeared in a short flash of colorless light as he stepped on a seemingly neglected scroll.
"Has he awoken?" Uchiha asked the moment he appeared in a different location, not even bothering to check if the person he was talking to was there.
"No, Uchiha-sama!" A woman dressed in stereotypical black ninja garb answered as she bowed at the waist from a console that was showing the image of Mt. Kurama. More precisely, a location with a set of boulders on the mountain's face.
"Somebody appears to have stumbled upon the entrance to the crypt, though, honored grandfather." A young male voice answered next, leading to the CEO looking towards a man that could have passed as his double, only with a large scar crossing his face from his chin, over his lips and across his right eye, which was a milky white. "We could not identify if they were male or female due to a cloak they were wearing. But they appear to have discovered the doorway and fallen through."
"We are hoping that it is merely a cosplayer that decided to wear their costume while strolling through the park, as the yearly anime convention is currently taking place in this city, but it is highly likely that it is another magician seeking that power." A woman's voice continued where the man left off, leading Uchiha's dark eyes to fall upon a purple haired woman that was rather tall for a Japanese with massive breasts that were barely confined by her skin-tight, lavender bodysuit. A katana resting on her hip in a traditional racoon-tail sheath. "Would you like me to lead a force there and apprehend the intruder?"
"Do as you wish, Raikou." Uchiha answered as he stared down at the frozen image of the cloaked figure falling through a hole. "If it is truly a simply unaware person, then erase their memories. But if it is another magus, execute them with extreme prejudice. We cannot allow him to leave the premise of his tomb… not until we are sure she no longer exists…"
"Hai, Lord Uchiha!" Raikou saluted the man with her fist pressed against her chest, inciting reactions from many of the male staff at the things it did to her large chest. She then turned to a golden-haired man dressed like a Yakuza boss that was standing just behind her. "Gather the remaining three of the Four Kings, we ride forth."
"HAI!"
Uchiha sighed as he stared down at the swirl symbol that was still glowing on his arm, a tired look coming onto his ageless face. 'I'm sorry, old friend. But until we can be completely sure that she is gone and her influence is no longer inside you. We cannot set you free.'
The intruder awoke from her forced slumber with a gasp and the young woman surged upwards, before holding a hand to her throbbing head, said head having struck the floor of the deep hole she had found herself dropped into moments after touching the rune that was now resting at what she believed was twenty-five feet above her head through the still open hole that was allowing her to see the midday sky.
She'd probably only been unconscious for a few minutes since the sun didn't appear to have moved much.
Gathering herself and holding onto her side with a flash of pain raced through her left ribs, meaning she'd either strained them with the impact or they had broken. Raising a hand as she chose to ignore the pain in favor of traveling through a small doorway she had just noticed; the girl muttered a small phrase beneath her breath before a ball of dim light appeared floating over her hand.
Purple eyes widened as she looked gleefully upon a series of ancient symbols that she had only seen in her research of her quarry. One of which had been featured frequently in the ancient documents she had managed to find in her search, a spiraling symbol similar to the one up above, but with a triangle attached that made it look like a leaf.
It took more than fifteen minutes of walking, something that should have been admittedly shorter for her, but for some reason, she couldn't access her abilities while inside this dank cave that was becoming more and more apparent to be a tomb. But she finally stumbled upon the main chamber of the structure that nobody in the current or past nation of Japan had ever known existed inside one of their sacred mountains.
It was a massive chamber with the ceiling rising to such a height that it stood just outside the influence of her spell's light, there were large statues of ancient beasts acting as pillars that supported the weight of the mountain above her head, and as she drew closer to the other side of the chamber, her breath hitched, barely stopping a scream in her throat as she came face to face with the massive statue of a gigantic nine-tailed fox, its snarling features nearly making her believe it was alive rather than just stone.
The head of the statue was connected to the floor with its slitted eyes glaring directly at her, giving her the impression the beast was alive. The statue's head was surround by a serene pool of deep water that the girl could sense a great deal of energy rising from its depths. It was one of the most potent things she had ever sense in her life, second only to a few select moments.
However, the greatest signature of energy in the room was situated directly ahead of her, emanating from the closed maw of the great demon, giving her the impression that her quarry was held in its snarling grasp.
"How do I get you out?" She asked the empty air as she deftly maneuvered herself over the pool, not wanting to fall in the energy-rich water. She had the nagging feeling that she'd turn to stone if she touched the liquid.
A small group of five shadowy figures arrived at the entry found by the young magician currently inspecting a statue inside the mountain.
"We are here," the blond of the group said as his muscular frame kneeled to peer down at the bottom of the hole. "And it appears that whoever we are after did not stay in one place for too long."
"Tsuna." Raikou commanded as she turned an eye towards a tall man with oily black hair done up in a traditional samurai topknot, a silver bow resting in his left hand. "See if you can track down the perpetrator. We cannot let the tomb be disturbed. Sakata, go with him."
"Hai, Captain!" The bowman pressed a fist to his armored chest before he leapt down into the darkness, soon to be following by the laughing blond man. The beautiful woman then looked over at the two remaining men with her. "Usui, remain on guard here. Utilize your seals to keep away any nosy parties." When he nodded and turned away to perform his duties, she turned to her remaining subordinate. "Urabe, we are going to follow Tsuna and Sakata. Be prepared."
"Yes, my lady."
"Here we go."
She had finally located what appeared to be the switch for opening the mouth of the great fox after what seemed to be ten minutes of searching. It didn't help that she had been forced to dim the light of her projection down to conserve her energy, whatever that was that happened to her when she touched the first symbol had drained her of a great amount of energy. So, she had been forced to search nearly blind in the dark.
With a great grinding of stone and the screech of ancient, rusted gears, the beast's maw opened to reveal the interior of the mouth. As she had somewhat expected since the beginning of her search for the hidden lever, there was a person residing inside, almost as if he were napping atop the tongue of the stone fox.
A man. Albeit one dressed in nearly all white robes that had outlines and designs traced in black. His skin that she felt should hold a tanned color was a deathly white, paler than even her own flesh. His clawed hands were folded over his unmoving chest, holding what appeared to be a Buddhist shakujo staff that was bound tightly in seal-covered bandages to the point that the staff's outline was completely clear.
The next thing to be noticed by the young magician, was that his hair, which was a stark white color and held a spiky appearance, laid extended down his back, almost to his ankles, as if he were laying on a bed of white fur, with rather long bangs that framed his face extended down his front to nearly cover his chest. His face was heavily wrinkled and held sharp edges that almost held a European flare to his being. Through the heavy wrinkles lining his face that made him appear ancient, she could just barely make out a set of three beast-like whiskers lining each cheek.
Finally, upon his forehead, which was covered by a thick plate of what seemed to be bone, were a pair of sharp-looking fleshy horns that seemed to extend from his temples.
"The legend is true…!" She gasped excitedly as she stretched out a pale hand to touch his clothes. She almost couldn't believe her success in finding him after searching for nearly two years through the most difficult places in the world. "You really do exist!"
She reached towards the staff held in the aged hands with trembling hands. "I can finally bring an end to that bastard once and for all. I can finally avenge mother and everyone!"
However, the jubilant mood surrounding her ended in a flash when a whistling sound filled the chamber, the magician barely turning her head before a searing pain flooded her body when a projectile lodged itself in the shoulder of the arm she was using to grab at the shakujo.
She immediately screamed in pain and grasped at her injured shoulder where the head of an arrow was stabbed right through the flesh and bone of the joint, her purple eyes dilating in horror and disbelief at being attacked in what had been a long-lost tomb.
She had felt no living presence and had assumed the ruin to be abandoned.
"You will go no further in this golden sanctuary, trespasser!" A deep voice called from behind her, forcing the hooded girl to stare back at a pair of Samurai armored men standing at the entrance of the chamber, one a black-haired man that was responsible for her injury if the bow in his hand was any indication and the other a giant of a man that was wielding a large axe that had a glowing golden blade, the glow of which was illuminating their surroundings to the point that she could clearly see them in the once dark chamber. The axe-wielder being the one that had spoken to her, "Your days shall end here! Beneath my GOLDEN blade!"
'No!' The girl cried in her head as her eyes widened at the thought of dying before she could avenge her fallen family and friends. 'I can't die here! I need to stop him! I can't let everyone down!'
As the axe-wielder began making his way towards her with the bowman remaining by the doorway, she struggled to her feet with her hood falling from her head to reveal her pale, beautiful and aristocratic features and dark purple hair. "I c-can't let you stop me!" She growled through the pain of her pierced shoulder. She flung up a shadow-wreathed hand, "I won't let you STOP ME!"
The man's eyes widened in surprise, before a swing of his axe destroyed the uprooted boulder that had been launched at him from the side, before bending backwards almost in half to avoid a bolt of shadow that was launched at his face and then performing a leap into the air from that position when a storm of stones passed where his legs would have been. "So, we were right! A magician you are! Prepare to be sent to whatever gods spawned thee!"
The girl gasped in shock as another arrow appeared before her face, a quick tilting of her head sparing her from being skewered, but still opening a rent on her face and splashing several drops of blood onto the wrinkled flesh of the aged body behind her. She had nearly forgotten the bowman while she was focusing on the axe-wielder.
"Lady Raikou! Urabe! Usui!" The bowman cried through the doorway into the shadows beyond as he moved to dodge a tendril of shadowy energy poised to stab through his lower torso, while he loosed another arrow at their target, which was barely dodged through an application of her magic. "We are in the main chamber! We have the trespasser cornered!"
"Good," the sultry voice of a woman said through the darkness, before in a blur, Raven was startled to find a beautiful woman garbed in a lavender bodysuit with sections of samurai armor attached in front of her. A katana sheathed in green lightning descending towards her terrified face with deadly precision.
She didn't want to die!
Not until she had managed to avenge her people upon that demon that had destroyed her home!
And it appeared that she wouldn't be dying today as everything stopped moving out of sheer shock and what she could detect to be muted horror when a wrinkled hand interposed itself between her terrified face and the sharp instrument of death, deftly catching the blade between its fingers.
Shocked eyes slowly traveled up the long appendage for what seemed to be an eternity before they landed on the now turned face and opened eyes of the man she had thought to be long dead when she had come into this tomb. Eyes that were as far from human as could possibly be with their encompassing purple color and the ripples extending from the thin pupil at the center.
Her assailants and who she had come to understand were protectors of the hidden tomb immediately came to a stop at the sight of the awakened man, the utterly shocked buxom woman that had been about to cleave the young magician in half, immediately released her grip on her katana and leapt away from her position, the heaving of her breast and widening of her eyes showing how terrified she was at the moment.
"He is awake!" The bowman muttered loudly in disbelief. "This isn't good…"
"W-?" A weak croak came from the withered and parched throat of the not-quite-dead-as-believed man as he slowly stood, his shaking legs clearly showing how they had been neglected for an extreme amount of time as he wobbled slightly before impaling the blade of the sword he'd caught into the ground and turning it into a makeshift cane that he immediately leaned his weight on before stabilizing himself with his staff.
His withered hand smacked against his chest for a moment before a cloud of dust exploded from his mouth in a raspy cough. His rippled eyes then turned upon the young girl whose blood had been spilled upon him, before turning to stare upon the five individuals that had nearly succeeded in killing her. "Who are you? What is going on?"
The magician and assailants winced at the gravely sound of his voice. The disuse of it clear as it sounded like scrapping gravel.
"I-I am Rachel R-Roth!" The injured magician answered as she immediately bowed to him on her knees, still holding her injured shoulder, her exclamation bringing his attention back to her. "Please! I-I beg of you! I need your help!"
There was a long moment of silence where the named Rachel remained with her head bowed while the ancient man stared down at her and the five guardians of the tomb remained on guard, wishing to attack the trespasser and put the awakened man back in his slumber, but holding the feeling in every fiber of their bodies that if they so much as moved right now, that they would die. No matter how decrepit and weak the man looked.
"You are very brave, child…" The old voice croaked as a small smile weakly stretched the flesh of his face and a gnarled hand placed itself on her hair, making her look up in shock. "I will help you if I am able." He then looked over at the massive statue he'd once been held prisoner in, muttering something that sounded like a name to her, but she couldn't hear. "You have freed me from my prison, and so, I owe you a debt. One I shall fulfill before I begin my reign…"
He then gazed upon the arrow jutting from her shoulder as she puzzled over the last statement. "You have been injured…" With a touch of his hand to the protrusion, the arrow vanished as if erased from reality much to the shock of the onlookers before a sun-shaped mark on his palm glowed and her shoulder was restored to perfect condition as if it hadn't just had a shaft of ironwood and metal plow through sinew and bone.
"I suppose to prove my thanks as genuine, then I must pay those who harmed you back in kind." His eyes rose to meet the terrified browns of the bowman, who immediately sprang into action to try and escape the room as he felt his very life flash before those endless eyes despite the distance between them.
In vain.
"Bansho Tennin."
He was immediately yanked back towards the old man much to the combined horror of his fellows, the massive blond of which tried to rescue him, only to be yanked through the air alongside his compatriot when he grabbed his leg.
Raikou's hands moved to her mouth in horror as a shard of bone rushed from the ancient man's raised palm and impaled Tsuna through the chest, her horror mounting when before their very eyes, Tsuna's thrashing stopped as his mouth hung open in a silent scream while his body became cracked and pale before he began falling apart in pieces of ash. Sakata bellowed in outrage even as he ripped his arm away from his crumbling companion, the affliction that had claimed his comrade's life now spreading up the hand and wrist that had held his leg.
Thankfully, his reaction to the spreading disease was swift as he brought his beloved axe around and cleaved his arm off just above the elbow allowing the severed appendage to fall to the ground, turning into a pile of ash as it struck.
Like so much trash, the two men were then discarded by the old man, as if they no longer mattered in his eyes. And still the three remaining guardians couldn't find it in themselves to move as the man returned his attention to Rachel and extended a clawed hand to her.
"Well met, Rachel Roth." His withered voice croaked as the pale girl tentively took his hand. "My name is N-"
Whatever else was said was cut off as the two suddenly vanished in a flash of golden light, leaving the remaining members of the squad standing in stunned silence that was only broken by the groans of pain from their blond fellow as he beheld the pile of ash that had once been one of his best friends while he clutched at the bloody stump where his left arm once rested.
"We've failed…" Raikou muttered in all-consuming shock as she stared lifelessly at the spot the old man and girl had just occupied moments before. She still didn't feel like she could move from her position without being immediately killed. "H-He's free…"
The black-haired man known as Uchiha waited patiently in his office with his eyes turned towards the mighty mountain held sacred by his nation, patiently waiting for word to reach him of the team's success. This was not the first would-be sorcerer seeking the power that rested beneath the mountain and it would hopefully not be the last.
His eyes idly fell towards a burnt picture of a trio of children and a silver-haired man that rested upon his desk. It had been so long since he'd laid eyes on the real blond of the trio. So very long ago that he'd sworn an oath to see him freed from the affliction placed upon him by a vengeful and mad goddess.
He turned his head towards the darkened corner of the office when a phone began ringing on his desk, despite the hope he held for good news of another power thief thwarted, he had a sinking feeling that it would not be the case when he lifted the ringing invention to his ear.
"The Sage is awake…" The voice on the other side spoke the moment the phone was placed on his ear, making the man sigh tiredly and his coal-black eyes fell to the ground before blazing a demonic crimson with three teardrop shapes circling the pupil. Damn. "He has left the mountain with the intruder. Watanabe no Tsuna has fallen in battle."
Damn.
"What are our orders, Uchiha-sama?" The voice asked after a long moment of silence as the Uchiha fought to get his raging emotions under control.
"…Send a notice to all agents and outposts throughout the world…" Uchiha spoke finally as his eyes narrowed in a barely noticed glare at the setting sun. "Inform them that Naruto Uzumaki has awoken from his slumber and to be on high alert." His glare softened as he looked down at a simple gold ring set on his left ring finger. "We must seal him away at all costs or the world shall fall."
He hung up before he could receive an answer and deep and tired sigh escaping his lips.
'I've failed. I'm sorry Sakura.'
Be sure to tell me what you think. I'm already working on Chapter 2, though it might be a while to get out.
