There were a few stops the Company had to make before they could make their way to Gerudo Desert. First was the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab.
"With all four pieces of the code, it's all clear now," Purah said. "This is a key-code!"
"To what?" Edelgard asked.
"I have no idea," Purah admitted. "Some kind of device. I'm guessing you'll know it when you see it. Do you know where to look?"
"Yes," Edelgard said. "Din said to look 'where it all began.' That can only mean the Shrine of Resurrection."
"Good," Purah said. "Linky? I'll load the key onto your slate. Lysithea, Constance, I have bombs and ice. If you..."
"Give me the ice rune," Constance said. "And could you help me modify my slate?"
Lysithea shrugged. "I wanted bombs anyway."
"I'll load the runes right away," Purah said. "And sure, I'll help you, Constance."
Link, Edelgard, and Lysithea returned to the Shrine of Resurrection afterwards. "Hard to believe it's only been seven months since we woke up here," Lysithea said.
"We've come a long way," Edelgard agreed.
Link looked around the Shrine of Resurrection. Eventually, he settled on the pedestal where the Sheikah Slate had initially rested. He opened the key rune and placed the Slate on the pedestal. The pedestal turned from orange to green, and the wall behind the healing pod slid away to reveal a door.
"Let's find out what's on the other side," Edelgard said. The three of them opened the door and stepped through.
The inside was much like a Sheikah Shrine, with a monk inside. "Greetings, Link, Edelgard, Lysithea. I am Maz Koshia."
"Hello, Maz Koshia," Lysithea said. "Din told us to come here for a cure for our dual Crests."
"I know," Maz Koshia said. "You can be cured. But first, you must pass one more test of resolve."
With that, Maz Koshia stood up, an Ancient Lance in each hand. Link and Edelgard drew their sword and axe, and Lysithea called a spell to hand.
Maz Koshia charged at the three of them. Lysithea threw a Miasma spell at him, but he just dashed right through it.
Maz Koshia's lances worked in perfect harmony, and it was all Link and Edelgard could do to keep up with him. "How are you dual-wielding so effectively?" Edelgard asked.
"I've had ten thousand years to practice," Maz Koshia answered, as Edelgard just barely blocked a blow.
Link swiped many times at Maz Koshia with his Ancient Sword. He had purposely eschewed the use of the Master Sword, as he didn't think using it against Maz Koshia was a good idea. However, Maz Koshia's defense was unbreakable.
Eventually, Maz Koshia knocked Edelgard down and turned his full attention to Link.
"Can I use the Master Sword?" Link thought. "He probably doesn't deserve it...but...if I don't, Edelgard and Lysithea will die before they were meant to."
It was a harder decision than it should have been, but Link drew the Master Sword. "I can't let you stop them from getting healed," he said.
"The Master Sword will not grant you victory," Maz Koshia said. Link charged, but Maz Koshia handled him as easily as he had before Link drew the Sword. He then kicked Link, sending him flying.
Lysithea, however, decided to strike in that moment. Pushing both her slate and her magic to the limit, she attempted to use bombs to box Maz Koshia in she threw a barrage of Dark Spikes at him. Edelgard also threw what magic she could at him, fire and Dark alike.
When the barrage subsided, Maz Koshia was gone. "You are spent, and I can still fight," his voice spoke. The three of them turned to see that he had somehow gotten behind them. "Go. There is nothing for you here."
Lysithea weakly tried calling another spell to hand, but it flickered out of existence. Edelgard put her hand on Lysithea's wrist and pushed it down. "We should go."
"But the cure! It's right here!" Lysithea said.
"We can't waste our lives here," Edelgard said. "If it was just us at stake, I'd fight to the bitter end. But we have to beat Calamity Ganon. That's more important than curing our own afflictions."
Lysithea looked at Link. "Don't look at me. It's not my call to make."
Lysithea clenched her teeth. She turned back to Maz Koshia. "Listen up, wight. We'll be back. And next time, we're going to beat you."
As they turned to leave, Maz Koshia spoke again. "Wait. Before you go, you should take this." He held out two orbs of red light.
"The cure? But...we lost," Lysithea said.
"The battle was meant to be unwinnable. The test was of your resolve," Maz Koshia said. "Be warned. If you take the cure, it will be very painful. If you do not have the resolve to live through it, you will die. But should you survive, your dual Crests will fuse into single, new Crests, and your afflictions will be cured."
Edelgard and Lysithea looked at each other and nodded. They then stepped up, and the energies flowed into them.
They both collapsed to the ground, writhing in agony for several minutes. But eventually, they stopped.
"Edelgard? Lysithea?" Link asked.
"We're...still...alive..." Lysithea groaned.
"That felt...it was like I was being torn apart and put back together," Edelgard said weakly. "But we made it."
"Good," Maz Koshia said. "Soon, you will feel better than ever. But something I had not foreseen has happened. There is an army of monsters at the gate to the Shrine."
"They must have known we would come here somehow," Link said.
"I will deal with them," Maz Koshia said. "The three of you just wait and watch."
