"I'm not sure," Sothis said. "It's not that I don't think telling Rhea could help, but..."
"But what?" Byleth thought. "She's the person who knows the most about you. Maybe she could help you get your memories back."
"It's possible," Sothis admitted. "But...if she really is my daughter, how is she going to take the news that I don't remember her?"
"Better for her to know," Byleth thought.
"You may be right," Sothis agreed. "If you think it best that we tell her, I will support that decision."
"Dad?" Byleth said. "I think we should talk to Lady Rhea about something."
"Okay, if that's what you think," Jeralt agreed.
"You wanted to meet with me?" Rhea asked.
"The kid did," Jeralt said. "She said she had something she wanted to talk to you about."
"I think maybe you might be able to help with something," Byleth said. "For the last month or so, I've been hearing Sothis's voice. And sometimes seeing her."
"You have?" Rhea asked excitedly. "Please, tell me more!"
"The thing is...she might not be like you remember her," Byleth said. "She looks like a nine-year-old girl, not the woman in the paintings of the Goddess. Though she does look like she might someday grow up to be the woman in the paintings."
That was a lot to parse. "Her appearance is...youthful?" She thought for a moment. "I see. If she does not have access to all of her power, it's possible she took a form that uses less power to maintain. Or so I might assume."
Byleth hesitated for a moment. "What's that?" She appeared to be...listening to someone Rhea couldn't hear? "She says she's been conserving her energy as much as possible, so that could be the case."
Mother was listening in on their conversation right now? Why hadn't she asked Byleth to give Rhea a message before? Was she disappointed in her? Rhea knew she could very well have reason to be, but that sort of treatment had never been Mother's style. When she was disappointed in you, she made it clear. Maybe this was a test of some kind? But if it was a test, then why would Byleth reveal anything at all? "...Does she have anything she wants to say to me?"
Byleth hesitated. "She says she's sorry, but she doesn't remember much of anything. She has no memory of you from before. She wants to remember you, but she can't."
She had no memories? That was...unfortunate.
"We decided to tell you because we thought maybe you could help us get her memories back," Byleth continued.
"I see," Rhea said. Truth be told, she didn't know what to do...but she would try to help. "Is there anything else about her current condition that we should know?"
"She has a feeling of...incompleteness," Byleth said. "As if her soul isn't fully present."
"That might actually make sense," Rhea realized. "We have to assume she was there for your entire life, but Flayn said she helped ward off Calamity Ganon's gaze on the Great Plateau. That would be impossible were her soul not divided in two. So, to restore her memories, we will need to find a way to join the pieces of her soul back together."
"Woah, woah, woah, slow down," Jeralt said. "Kid, you've been running around with the Goddess's voice in your head? Or with the voice of half of the Goddess in your head?"
"Yes," Byleth said. "And a bit of her power. I can mess around with time. Slow it down, stop it, turn it back. With a lot of concentration, I can slow it down without slowing myself down along with it for a few seconds."
"That's crazy," Jeralt said.
"That was one of Mother's abilities," Rhea told him.
"Sothis is my friend," Byleth said. "I want to help her get her memories back. Do you have any ideas of how to do that?"
"I might," Rhea admitted. "Mother's throne has some of her power left inside it. If you were to sit on it, and she were to tap into the power, it might be enough to connect the two pieces of her soul. But..."
"But what?" Jeralt asked.
"But I don't think Byleth could withstand that power as she is now," Rhea said.
"So what do I do?" Byleth asked.
"Give me some time to think," Rhea said. "When a solution presents itself, I will let you know."
Of interest to Rhea was Shez. From having seen him when he arrived, it was clear that Arval, or whatever other force had enabled him to transform himself, had eventually transformed him in such a way that his transformation had become permanent. In the same way, it might be that Mother could transform Byleth's body into one that could withstand more of her power.
The question was, how? She wasn't sure she wanted to ask Shez just yet. Byleth and Mother's secret wasn't hers to share.
"There is one other thing," Byleth asked. "Can you tell us about who Sothis was? Not the Church-approved version. Who she really was. Maybe something you tell us might spark a memory."
"I would be glad to," Rhea agreed.
The next day, everyone congregated in the meeting room once more. "Yuri-bird's plan was quite possibly the riskiest thing we had tried up to that point," Hapi said. "I was sure we were walking to our deaths..."
