"So let me get this straight-" Salem said, picking up a written report. Cinder was sitting at the council table her left eye partially obscured by her hair. "You were tired of only having one eye due to Ruby's silver-eyed powers burning away your left eye and most of your left arm, so you took your weapon, went outside and wrestled a Beowolf. Once you managed to steal its left eye, you inserted it yourself, managed to survive the process and killed the Beowolf thereafter?" Cinder nodded in affirmation. "I see. It looks you have the ability of Grimm sight now. Okay, first question for you- do you know what Grimm sight actually is?" Cinder shrugged. "Here, write on the back of this."
Cinder scribbled something on the paper and handed it back to Salem. "You're asking what the difference between human sight and Grimm sight is. Well, there are a few key differences. First off, cover your left eye and look at the altar. Tell me what you see."
The fall maiden followed her instruction.
"Now do the opposite. Cover your right eye and look with your left eye."
Cinder did so, and saw that everything looked like it was in varying shades of red. She looked at Salem, still seeing her black robes and she could faintly tell that her skin still looked deadly pale, but it was a new and rather disorienting way of seeing things.
"How does it all look to you?"
"Mostly... everything's... red..." Cinder coughed.
"Precisely. Grimm see things in a different light, quite literally. The same also applies to how they see humans. Allow me to get Mercury and Emerald here to show you."
A while later, Mercury and Emerald had entered the meeting room. Emerald looked highly unnerved at seeing Cinder's Grimm eye while Mercury looked more bewildered than anything else.
Salem looked at Mercury. "Stand in front of the altar and face towards Cinder." He followed her orders and the Grimm goddess turned to her fall maiden. "Now Cinder, look only with your left eye and tell me, do you see him?"
She followed her instructions, but when the camera shifted to the red Grimm lens, nothing was there.
The camera shifted back to normal perspective, where Mercury stood calmly. "No."
"Alright. You may stand aside Mercury." He left the altar and went back to the council table. "Now then, let's get Emerald out here." Emerald nervously went forward and stood in front of the altar. "Now Cinder, do that same exercise again and tell me, do you see her?"
Cinder looked at the altar through her Grimm lens and saw Emerald, shaking in sadness and fear. "Yes."
"Good. Now, what was the difference between Mercury and Emerald when they stood before the altar?"
Cinder coughed a few times. Then she answered, "Emerald... was scared. And sad even?"
"Correct. Grimm can only see humans that are affected by negative emotions. Anger, sadness, fear, envy, jealously, and many others. They find their prey by sensing these emotions. And that is precisely what you are going to do."
"Wait." Salem looked at Cinder curiously. "If I..." She coughed. "couldn't see..." Another cough. "Mercury..." Another cough. "through my Grimm..." Yet another cough. "eye. Then how..." Cough. "could I..." Cough. "see you?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Salem posed. "I am not completely human. I am part Grimm." All three of them looked at the witch in confusion. "To put it simply, I have human sight and Grimm sight at the same time. Because of certain occurrences that happened to me long ago, I am neither human nor Grimm. But at the same time, I am both human and Grimm. Does that make any sense?"
Mercury nodded negatively and Emerald just shrugged.
Cinder nodded, thinking to herself, I think I got it.
"Well the point is that I have both powers and abilities of human and Grimm. And you Cinder, you must use your newfound Grimm powers to find them based on their trail of negative emotions. Mercury, Emerald, go down far away from us. Doesn't matter where you go- to the first floor, basement, the dungeon. Just go very far away from us and in three minutes, Cinder will attempt to find you. Once you have arrived, start evoking negative emotions. Do whatever you must- start an argument, fight each other. Just try not to kill each other in the process."
Mercury and Emerald left the throne room and shut the doors behind them.
"In precisely three minutes you will attempt to find your friends by the negative emotions they give off. Before we begin, do you have any further questions for me?"
Cinder wrote something down on the paper. "'How far away can you sense negative emotions? Or alternatively, can you sense the negative emotions of your servants?' An excellent question. I can sense negative emotions in nearly every corner of the world, but I can hone in and identity specific targets. If I look really closely, I can determine the cause of their anger or distress. Those with negative emotions strong enough for me to draw strength from I refer to as beacons. Let me show you a familiar face to demonstrate." She conjured a crystal ball, set it on the altar and shot a beam of purple energy at it. "Show me Yang Xiao-Long."
The crystal ball showed Yang found herself standing in the bathroom, looking in the mirror. She still wore her jacket, and Cinder noticed the missing right arm. She winced as the former brawler blinked in sorrow. The Fall Maiden didn't know what Yang was thinking, but she knew it couldn't be anything good. Salem smirked; She knew what Yang was thinking.
Yang closed her eyes and punched the mirror, letting the glass fly everywhere. The glass fell onto Yang's hand as she cried out in pain. As the glass fell off, the Grimm women saw that she wasn't using her aura as she bled from her left palm.
"A girl who lost her right arm, and thus, all of her strength. Consider yourself fortunate that you have not met the same fate despite your injury by the silver-eyed girl." She turned to her subordinate. "In terms of my agents, I can sense their emotions most of the time. In fact, two of my aides are hiding something from me. Lionheart has recklessly chosen to close down Haven without consulting me. Additionally, Hazel is lying about something that occurred in Argus. I will have to have a word with them both eventually. Right now, I have more pressing matters to attend to, like your Grimm training. Now go and find your friends using your Grimm sense."
Cinder turned and exited the meeting room. The fallen maiden closed her eyes and concentrated on the energies around her. She felt something in the air, but she wasn't sure what it was.
The camera turned to show the red Grimm lenses along with her normal vision from her human eye. In the corner of her left eye, she could see a faint black trail. She followed the trail and it slowly became clearer. The trail led to the stairway and from there she sensed an emotion all too familiar to her; anger.
She made her way through the hallway as the black line became thicker and broader.
Emerald is angry. But why?
The Fall Maiden made her way to the stairway and went down.
Meanwhile, on the ground floor of the Evernight Castle, Emerald was arguing with Mercury. The latter folded his arms. "Give me three reasons why I should believe that Cinder actually cares about us."
"A, she treated the two of us much better than Roman, Neopolitan, and Adam combined. B, she helped both of us during our lowest points in life. And c, after acting as her interpreter for the meeting, she wrote me a thank you note."
"She's berated all of us, she only needs us because of our skill sets and her own injury/illness, and Salem probably forced her to."
"No way! Cinder's much nicer than Salem is! You're a damn fool!"
"I'm telling you, Cinder doesn't care about you!"
"You're wrong! She saved me from a life on the streets!"
Cinder had reached the bottom of the stairway and hid to eavesdrop on their conversation.
"She's only using you!" Mercury told her.
"Shut up! You have no reason to say such things!"
Emerald, acting on impulse, got out her weapon, Thief's Respite.
The Fall Maiden sighed.
I suppose I should probably break up their fight.
Cinder came out from her hiding spot and threw out a fireball to catch their attention. Emerald gasped as Mercury looked at her in surprise.
"Oh, looks like she found us." Mercury stated.
Without a word, Cinder just took them by the arms, Mercury on her left and Emerald on her right, and went up the stairs.
The next day, Sienna was shown exiting a train, showing her to be on the outer edge of Wind Path. From the outdoor station, she saw she has at the top of the hill and overlooked the city.
Alright... Athena's tower should be here somewhere.
She saw Athena flying by in, quickly soaring towards the top of a very tall building.
Well, looks like my luck might be finally turning around.
She ran after Athena, carefully hiding herself from one alley to another to avoid detection.
The scene transitioned to Sienna standing before Athena's Tower. The tower was a tall building had appeared to have twenty five stories. At the rooftop was Athena herself.
There's no way I can climb that. Looks like I may have to fight my way through.
The High Leader entered the building, and found herself in a lobby reminiscent to a hotel's, but there was no one there.
Where is everyone?
She looked around, going through several carpeted halls and walls plastered with floral wallpaper. There was still no one in sight.
Am I paranoid? Or has Athena left herself wide open? Is it possible that she put more effort into hiding the location than securing it in the case of intruders like me?
The tigress found an elevator.
Looks like I'm going to the top.
She went over to the lift, pressed a button and the doors opened. She entered, pressed the 'close door' button and saw a list of floors with the numbers 1-25. She pressed the highest number and stood by as the elevator ascended.
Alright. I have all my aura, my weapon... Sienna looked at her Cerberus Whip, the fire blade missing from her fight with Slate de Sena. She sighed heavily. I wish I had all my chain blades... She sighed again. Looks like I'll have to make do.
The elevator soon reached the top. She exited and found herself in a hallway with blue tile floors and glass panels for walls. About a hundred feet in front of her was a set of oak doors.
She went to these doors, opened them entered a black walled room. On the left wall there appeared to be a fireplace. In the upper right corner, there were two red lounge chairs with arm rests and a coffee table in the upper right corner. Opposite to the table was a grey sofa. On the table itself was a magazine on the city of Wind Path. The right side of the room had bookcases lined along the wall.
Sienna soon noticed that she was still alone.
Where is she?
She saw the exit, another set of oak doors and went through them. The second hallway was the same as the first. Khan walked forward and after about three hundred more feet, found a staircase. Upon seeing it, she immediately ran for it and ascended the steps. She found a door labeled 'Rooftop Entrance' and went through it.
The tigress looked to find Athena Bruna right in front of her, who smirked upon Sienna's arrival. "Well, well, look what the cat dragged in. I must admit, I'm surprised you found this place."
"Enough small talk, Bruna." Sienna glared at her. "You started a civil war, framed Maura for crimes you caused, and have broken your oath as Maura's lieutenant and a member of the White Fang! Why are you doing this?!"
Athena chuckled. "Oh, Sienna. You fail to realize the bigger picture. Faunus have been hurt, killed, and silenced for too long." She flew a few feet above the ground, rising her arms gradually above her. "I just want to help them rise above."
The High Leader glared at her rebellious subordinate. "You're not making things better! You started a civil war, one in which both humans and faunus, were caught in and died!"
She folded her arms and landed. "That may be true, but causalities are part of any major war. As High Leader of the Fang, you should already be aware of this."
"Don't lecture me, Bruna. What are you planning?"
"You know I'm not going to tell you. And even if you did know, you wouldn't be able to stop me."
Sienna gritted her teeth. "And why do you say that?"
"You're all alone. You have no one to replace me. If you kill me, you'll start another civil war. We wouldn't want that, now would we?" Sienna growled, refusing to admit Athena was right. "Of course, there's a better way to resolve this; we do a trade. You become Mistral's leader, and I'll be the new High Leader."
"Never."
The wise-woman frowned, but was not surprised. "If you won't give me the power I seek, I'll just have to take it from you!"
Athena retrieved a pistol and fired at Sienna, but she was ready for this. She got out her chain whip and spun it in a circular motion, blocking every bullet that came towards her. The owl faunus growled and switched from her gun to her pistol, attempting to fire the grappling hook at Sienna. The High Leader swung her whip forward, using the tip of her ice chain blade to cut the rope. She exhaled, clinching her teeth together. Athena took out another weapon, this time a sword of fire and ice dust combined, they were intertwined in coils within the sword. She sliced her sword through the air, releasing dust waves. They flew a few feet outward before exploding in blasts of orange and blue dust. Sienna gasped and quickly ducked down, jumped up and dashed all over the place to avoid the dust explosions.
The High Leader swung her whip forward and advanced, attempting to disarm Athena by grabbing the sword, but the 'war goddess' saw it coming. She put the sword away by placing it on her back and retrieved a new weapon; a gold and silver bow. A quiver of bows was wrapped around the left side of her waist. The winged faunus took to the skies. After ascending about ten feet into the air, she started to fire her arrows, many of them loaded with fire or ice dust, in Sienna's direction. The tigress cursed as she backflipped to dodge arrows, almost stumbling backwards and nearly falling off.
"Get down here, you cursed bird!" She jumped to the side out of the way of another arrow.
Sienna, in anger, released the ice chain blade from Cerberus Whip and it hit her bow, causing Athena to be caught in an explosion of ice and fire dust. She looked closely at the smoke cloud for a few seconds and from it emerged Athena. The tips of her wings were on fire and ice shards were shown to have frozen a small few of her feathers. Despite these hindrances, she managed to land and threw electric dust knifes at Sienna. As Sienna sidestepped to avoid them, Athena dropped to the ground and quickly rolled to put out the flames. She stood up and found the tigress swinging her whip at her.
The winged faunus quickly did a backwards cartwheel and shook the ice shards off her wings.
"You're clever, but can you fight fire with fire?"
Athena retrieved a weapon similar to Ilia's Lightning Lash, only this blade-whip-gun had fire dust within it and was primarily black. It extended out and met with Sienna's whip. The result was fire dust being released and landing on blade. However, with the whip being metal, and the aura coursing through it, the flames were soon deflected. The owl winged faunus took a few more shots attempting to strike Sienna, but each time the attack was nullified with the chain whip. Athena growled and switched to blade mode. She attempted to advance on Sienna multiple times.
This is odd. Sienna thought as she dodged the traitor's moves. Most White Fang specialists usually specialize in one weapon. Then again, most specialists aren't former lieutenants or traitors.
Curiosity eventually biting at her, Sienna asked, "How do you have so many weapons?!"
Athena laughed at Khan's query. "Oh Khan, a commander needs to be versed in many kinds of combat. The Commander's Set has more weapons then you think!"
To prove her point, she then retrieved a few throwing knives, this time filled with electric dust. Sienna quickly retracted her whip, wrapped it around her right arm and jumped out of the way of the blades.
Sienna glared at her, still attempting to get her. "Then why did you only use one weapon at Argus?!"
"I will admit that I held back at the fall of Argus Harbor Prison, knowing it would be reported," she answered, dodging Sienna's swings of her whip. "but now we're far from the public eye, and there's too much on the line here. I'm not going to let you or anyone else stop me from getting what I want!"
The traitorous owl threw more knives at Sienna, which she effortlessly dodged.
Cordovin reported in her post-prison fall interview that Athena had used fire dust boomerangs, called her 'Blazing Wings' in battle. But where are...?
Sienna looked up and gasped as she saw those weapons coming towards her. She quickly dodged the Blazing Wings as they came towards her and jumped up backwards as they came back to their owner.
"You're clever, Khan." She put the boomerangs around the sides of her waist. "I'll give you that. But not quite clever enough."
Athena then got out a single knife these laced with red and blue dust. She swung it forward, creating stream. Sienna had her range of vision limited with the stunt her opponent pulled.
Where is she?! the High Leader thought.
Sienna's right tiger ear twitched and she ducked down, evading Athena's attempt to grab her in the nick of time. Sienna got out a wooden hand fan and used it to blow away smoke from her. She succeeded in clearing the smoke, but when it cleared, the owl faunus had disappeared.
Is she really running, or flying, away like a coward?
Lost in her thoughts, Sienna failed to realize Athena was coming in from behind... until it was too late. The winged faunus knocked the tigress down with her wings and grabbed her by the throat, making her drop. The wise woman flew a few feet forward before flying twenty feet into the air, smirking as she held her opponent like a scrawny little kitten. "You think too much."
"You'll never get away with this!" Sienna proclaimed.
Ms. Bruna simply smirked. "Do you realize how far up we are?" Sienna looked down and gasped. A bad memory of her falling off the cliff in Mistral came to her, along with a brief vision of Adam and Cinder in the Forever Fall forest. The High Leader looked back at Athena. "I'll give you one chance; surrender the badge and High Leadership to me, and maybe I'll spare your life."
"Never! You'll take this badge when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!"
"So be it then."
The traitor threw Sienna at a forty-five degree angle and watched as she fell.
"Athena!"
The winged faunus chuckled, content with how she choose to end the battle. "Ha. Let's see if she survives that."
Sienna felt the wind rush by her as she fell. She felt a familiar sense of panic, a deja-vu of sorts. An image of Salem's symbol come to her. The image disappeared as the tigress inhaled sharply.
No! I can't let this happen again! Sienna took another quick breath as she continued falling. I need a landing strategy, and fast!
