I've sort of been trying to portray Saavik as an amalgram of Kirstie Alley and Robin Curtis with some inspiration from T'Pol(Enterprise) and J'Vini (Discovery).
In The Wrath of Kahn, Alley played a younger, nearly rebellious rising star protogen of Spock's. Saavik was being trained for command leadership and was confident at navigation, science station and in command, in The Search for Spock, the character had little command opportunity on the Grissom and was more a sidekick to Doctor David Marcus, still she was depicted as a capable away team leader, and scientist. The events of TWOK and the death of Spock seemed to give her pause, and her brief scene in The Voyage Home never really explained her dissappearancr from the franchise. An early draft of The Undiscovered Country reveals she was to have played the character of Valeris, conspiring against the Klingons due to her feelings regarding the loss of David Marcus.
As Kristie Alley is such a part of a character I am exploring here I wanted to include a moment of reflection on her accomplishments.
Kirstie Alley passed away December 6 2022 following a brief fight with cancer.
Alley became famous in 1987 when she starred as Rebecca Howe on NBC's Cheers. She earned a Golden Globe for best actress and an Emmy for outstanding lead actress for her part in the Boston-based series in 1991.
She went on to receive her second Emmy win for her portrayal of Sally Goodson in David's Mother in 1994
Alley also appeared on television shows including Veronica's Closet (1997-2000), Fat Actress (2005), Kirstie (2013-2014), and Scream Queens (2015-2016), as well as films like Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982), Summer School (1987), Look Who's Talking (1989), It Takes Two (1995) and Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
thank you for breathing life into your characters,
