Episode 10: A path of Redemption

The next day…

Mars' POV

I was not having a good day. Being a sailor scout had been incredible, and now all the inners had lost their powers and the others had lost their memories. Out of habit I had told Usagi she could still meet at the shrine, but I was nowhere near it now, last place I wanted to be was near Usagi. I was in the park, silently contemplating how it all went so wrong.

"Are you ok?"

I looked up to find a girl in a golden dress staring at me concerned.

"N-No. Not really to be honest."
"Walk with me, I'd like to speak with you."
Why do I feel like I've seen her before?

After a few minutes of walking, we finally stopped in front of a small shop, an old ice cream parlor that was currently empty.

"What are we doing here?"
"I find that ice cream tends to help people in a particularly bad mood. I have not figured out why, but it does. Now tell me, what's got you in such a state?"

"…I made some bad decisions…I thought I knew what was right…but I sure went about it the wrong way, now my old best friend is furious with me."

"I see. That is a problem."

We both sat there for a while before she got up.

"I have something I'd like to talk to you about. Rose, please watch over the counter till we get back."

"Right."
We went down into the basement, but I could feel something was wrong about this situation. After going down there, she turned to me again.

"So. You're having issues with Sailor Moon, correct Mars?"
Wait what?! How does she know who I am?!

"I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Come now Sailor Mars, I was in control of you and the other scouts for a period, you don't really believe I would forget do you?"

Wait…only one person ever had control of me…that can only mean…
"G-Galaxia…what do you want from me?"
"Merely to help…I committed countless atrocities while I was under Chaos' influence…and though I can never truly be redeemed for what I've done, I can at least try to make up for some of the things I've done." She said.

"How can you possibly help me? I've lost my powers, I'm no one special anymore! I'm just Rei Hino, a teenager and shrine maiden. That's all I am anymore."

"And that is where you are mistaken" Galaxia said before going into another door. "Come, I have to show you something."

We entered the door, and to my amazement, found ourselves in a massive training facility.

"The fire inside of you has been weakened by the loss of your powers, but it still burns brightly and yearns to be wielded. It only must be brought out."

"What does that even mean? That I have powers even without being a scout? And how do I know you won't just use me to get rid of Usagi so you can take over?" I asked.
"…You don't. You will not take my word at it, so you will have to trust that I have nothing but pure intentions for you."

That's encouraging…but if she can help me learn to control these powers so I can help Usagi…I'll take the risk.

TRAINING TIMESKIP

"You learn fast. Your power is not as not capable without the Sailor abilities, but it's still potent, possibly more potent than you were as a scout." Galaxia said to me.
"How would we know?"

Suddenly, I felt a chill behind the store, as if something were there. Looking back into the alley, I saw some sort of floating girl, draining the energy from two young girls behind the shop.

"A spirit…one that has been tainted by residual energy left by the attacks the youma have launched." Galaxia said.

On instinct, I attacked the specter with my new ability, as Galaxia moved the girls to safety inside the shop.

"Purity Flames, Cast back the darkness!"

The flames seemed stronger, as the spirit recoiled as the flames contacted it, leaving the rest of the area untouched.

I threw a charm at it, unleashing another attack.

"Purity Explosion!"

This attack left the spirit unconscious, lying on the ground.

"That was too easy…how did I knock it out with just two attacks?"
"Your ability is strong, and you must remember, this is a mere spirit, unlike youma they are not meant for combat, so it's unlikely this one would be ready to face you."

"We can't just leave it here, but how can I remove the darkness from it?" I asked Galaxia.

"If I am right, merely touching a blank charm to it should do." She replied.

I cautiously looked at her, before touching a charm to the spirit's forehead. To my surprise, the spirit glowed brightly before disappearing, with writing appearing on the charm.

"What just happened?" I asked in surprise.

"The spirit is now bound to the charm, if you so choose you may release it by destroying the charm, or keep it as an ally."
I cautiously tossed the charm on the ground, and the spirit girl reappeared, but now glowing with a light aura.

"Greetings. I thank you for helping me brave humans. If I may, Miss…?"
"Rei." I said.

"Rei. I thank you for helping me recover from the darkness. I am Clara Jones, I was sadly victim of an accident and left wandering the spirit world before I was turned dark by the evil energy. Please, don't send me back, I wish to help you."
I thought over it for a moment. Having a light spirit on my side would help…but I didn't want to force her to stay.

"Are you sure that is what you want?"
"Yes! Please, let me help you Rei, I want to be useful!"
"…Okay. But don't consider me as a master or something like that, I just want to be a friend. Hopefully a better one than I was to Usagi…"
Well…this is an interesting turn of events…how much weirder can this get?
