Lacie Revlon, District One mentor - Victor of the 93rd Hunger Games.
One would think that after mentoring tributes for the last six years that it would get easier. It did but there was still a part of Lacie that hated watching her tributes make it out. Ever since she won her games at sixteen years old, she had only had one tribute of hers win.
Perhaps Flare and Grayson would bring her the win that she wanted. She watched with eager eyes as the two tributes boarded the train, eyes wide as they took it all in. Colt sat next to her on the couch and she motioned for the two to take the couch across from them.
"Alright, you two are the best that we have to offer and I plan on one of you winning this year." She started out, running a hand through her short blue hair. "Why don't you tell me your strengths and weaknesses. Let us know what we're working with."
Grayson spoke first and she could hear the hint of excitement that laced his words.
"I work well with a long sword but I'm not that bad at a normal size sword. I excelled in hand to hand combat and I know some survival skills though that is something I will want to learn more of. As for weaknesses, I can be abrasive, according to the trainers at least. I work better in groups rather than alone." He finished with a shrug.
Lacie looked over to Colt. "We could work with that."
Flare spoke up next, fingers tapping against the arm of the couch. "I was the best in the Academy with knives. I can hit targets from a long distance and I never miss. I don't work well in groups but I'm willing to look that aside for the Careers. I can climb decently and I'm pretty agile."
"That's not bad. You both are the top shape that you can be in." Colt spoke as he nodded towards the tributes. Lacie felt the train pick up speed as the District became lost in the distance behind them. "Are we still thinking of the Career alliance?" She couldn't help but ask the pair.
"It would be best if we did, though we'll have to watch the reapings to see if we want to include Four in it or not."
"That's our best bet. We can pull the reapings up now to get to know who you are against." Once the reapings were pulled up, Lacie hit play and let herself analyze the other tributes. Two was a good pair, the male was a previous tribute relative and the female looked strong and capable of handling herself. Four was a pair of Academy kids, she could tell that much. The female was on the smaller side and Lacie didn't think she was older than fifteen at the most. The male was older, probably in his last year of eligibility. They would be a good pair to work with.
Once the video was finished playing, she turned back to them. "I think you should let Four in the alliance if they want in."
"Ikarus looks like he would be a good fit, Reid is smaller and that might make her more of a target but we'll have to see how she looks during training before we ask them both."
"And if they don't want in?" Colt asked, leaning forward slightly.
"Then we take them out at the earliest opportunity. They both look strong enough to be a threat in the long run and I can't let them get in the way." Flare leaned back, ankles crossed. "The only one I could see being a threat is the female from Five. There's something familiar in her eyes that makes her on the top of my target list."
"So ally with two, obviously and see if during training you can get the pair from Four in it as well. Maybe see if Five will join if willing, if not then. Well, it's her loss." Lacie shrugged as she grabbed the glass of water from the table beside her. "What about the pair from Nine? I know we don't normally go for those in the outer districts but they look strong enough and they could stand a chance with y'all."
Flare shrugged, eyes flickering back to Grayson.
"We'd be okay with it once we saw how they do during the first day of training. If they're up to our standards we'll think about letting them in."
"You two should rest up if you can and join us back for dinner in a couple hours." Colt told the pair as he got up from his spot on the couch. "We should be the first to arrive in the Capitol early tomorrow morning or so."
Flare and Grayson locked eyes and she nodded.
She could deal with him for a bit longer and then she'd get her revenge on him.
Wyatt Amit, District Five Mentor, Victor of the 80th Hunger Games.
It was hard year after year watching as each of his tributes failed to win the Games. In fact, District Five had yet to get a victory since he won his Games when he was seventeen years old.
But looking at the pair in front of him as they watched the recap of their fellow tributes reapings, he felt a spark of hope. Perhaps this would be the year that their District got another win.
The boy was tightly positioned in the corner of the couch, eyes wide as he watched and saw who his fellow competitors were. His fingers twisted around as he watched. Wyatt knew that feeling all too well.
The feeling of helplessness, anxiety and the sheer terror that in three weeks time, he very well could see his end. Wyatt would give it his all to make sure that he could make it through the bloodbath.
Damara was watching with something of a smirk on her lips. She had already started to converse with their escort for that year, no doubt trying to win the Capitol woman into her good graces.
She would be a force to reckon with in the arena. Though she was tactical there was something that stood out to him, something that could very well be her downfall.
"Are you two thinking of alliances at all?" He asked as the video came to an end and he turned the television off quickly.
"I am," Ruon spoke up. "I was thinking about maybe the male from ten or eleven. They seem strong and like they would be good to have in an alliance."
"It's me, myself and I against everyone else. I don't want an alliance, I don't need one. Besides, I don't have the time to waste on them if it's just going to end with either them betraying me or I betray them."
"Fair enough. Ruon, starting with the male from eleven, he seems to be the ideal one to ask first and if he's willing to ally with him. Damara just stick with learning what you want to learn during training. Don't let them get the wrong idea that you want allies."
They nodded and Damara turned better to face her mentor.
"Will you be training us separately or together?"
He paused for a moment. It would be best to train them apart from one another. Surely they both had some skill that they didn't want the other one to know of.
"I think it would be best to train you both separately, though if you change your mind at all, just let me know. Now," he could see the avoxes loading the table with various foods. "I believe that dinner is starting to be set out so help yourself to whatever. We should be arriving at the Capitol in about a day and a half."
Their mentor excused himself and returned back to his room, letting the door shut softly.
Another year and it still wasn't getting any easier.
Skye Monroe, District Nine Mentor,Victor of the 96th Hunger Games.
It was a weird concept to her that she was mentoring a tribute that was the same age as her. But she had the upperhand in this situation. She herself had won her Games just a mere four years ago.
The memories of it were still fresh in her mind as if it happened yesterday. Skye still wasn't sure how she managed to outsmart the other tributes during the Games.
Call it sheer luck or the lack of thinking from the others.
She had her shot of teaching her tributes what they needed to learn to survive. They had the basics and she would be able to work with that. Brown eyes looked over the pair as they conversed softly between the two of them.
"Have you both given some thoughts on alliances?" She softly asked, moving a lock of hair out of her face.
"We're open to the Careers if they ask. If they don't and Four isn't in their alliance we might ask them."
"So it's safe to say that you're sticking together?"
"For now at least. We both are capable of making it far into the Games on our own but together we'll be even better." Astrid spoke and Percy nodded his confirmation.
"And for those that look like a threat, the girl from Five has to be the top target and maybe the male tributes from Ten and Twelve." Percy shrugged his shoulders, positioning himself better on the chair.
"Keep a close eye on them during training. See if you can figure out their strengths and weaknesses. Speaking of those, any hidden skills you want to share?"
"I'm resourceful and both physically and mentally strong. I can be forgetful at points and it does not take a lot to make me angry." Astrid said first.
"I'm well liked, I can make everyone like me pretty easily which will come in handy with the interview and getting sponsors. But there are times that I forget how to take breaks from things and overexert myself."
Skye nodded, taking note of it.
"What about training?"
"If we manage to get into the careers, then I'll try to learn as much as I can as to their strengths and weaknesses. I'll also try to learn more weapons and survival skills that will be useful in the arena."
"Astrid?"
"Everything really. I'll more than likely spend the first day and the first part of day two on weapons. The last day and a half will be on survival skills. Plant identification, shelter building, things like that. I want to be prepared as much as I can before the Games start."
Skye nodded, a smile on her face. "I don't say this often but I think District Nine finally has a shot of being a victor and I will do everything in my ability to make sure that the two of you are as ready as I can help you be."
Glancing out the window, she turned back to the two tributes in front of her. "Take the rest of the train ride as a chance to get to know each other better and to start planning whatever you need to plan. Once we get to the Capitol it'll be straight to your stylists for remakes and the tribute parade. It's not as bad as it seems as long as you don't get stuck with a costume like I was."
