Meanwhile, on the streets…
Ender skipped through the bright lights of the city, humming happily to himself before a thought struck him.
"Y'know, it's awfully empty, considering this is Las Vegas." Ender said to himself. "I wonder where everyone is? Ah well, that's something to think about later. For now, I gotta find that prison."
Ender teleported to a nearby rooftop, scanning his field of view for any sign of what he was looking for, before repeating the process on another roof.
"Nope, not here." Ender said. "I hope nobody bad found it. That would be a disaster."
The Enderman's attention was stolen when he caught sight of two figures walking through the street below. "Hmm… Maybe those guys can help."
"On the subject of learning, I've heard you're considering joining the Vahumana as a scholar." said an armored mechanical puppet, in red and black coloring. "Another suggestion from your new mother?"
Walking alongside them was a man of medium size, with fair skin, indigo eyes with red eyeliner, and short dark blue hair in a hime cut and an undercut. His outfit resembled that of shugenja, with a large circular navy blue hat covering his head, and a tight black high-collared bodysuit under a loose white tunic.
"Lesser Lord Kusanali isn't my mother. We have no familial ties, no matter what others may think." the man sighed in aggravation. "But to answer your question, yes. She did offer to register me as a scholar."
"Do you intend to take her up on that offer?" the robot asked.
The monk-dressed man scoffed. "Please. Even if me interacting with others is a terrible idea, I'm far too busy being a cog in Dark Periodic. I doubt I'd get a chance to take part in studies."
"Actually, I've heard Dark Garden offers benefits for those in education." the robot said. "If you wish to take a leave of absence to pursue studies in Sumeru, then-"
Their conversation was interrupted when Ender landed in front of them, the two immediately getting defensive.
"Hi there!" Ender waved at them. This greeting, without any trace of malice or hostility behind it, caused the two Dark Garden members to stop preparing attacks, but still remain on guard. "Have either of you seen a big, fleshy looking diamond shaped prison around here?"
"...I'm sorry?" the robot asked, caught off guard by the strange question.
"Oh, I threw it up here from Hell, and now I have to find it and get it open." Ender explained. "It's really important! As in, very bad things will happen if I don't get it open soon!"
"We don't have time for this foolishness." the monk scoffed. "I suggest you leave this city while you can. It's in the middle of a Warzone, and a monster such as yourself would be mistaken for a threat and attacked."
"A Warzone? That Dark Garden thing?" Ender asked. "Oh, that's why there's no one around!"
"And why you shouldn't be around. Now, if you excuse us…" the robot said as they and their ally passed by the Enderman.
"Wait, I got an idea!" Ender spoke up, turning to look at the two Dark Garden members. "Why don't we all work together to find it? We could cover a lot of ground with the three of us!"
"No time, I'm afraid. We're on our way to deal with a particularly fiery intruder." the robot said. "We don't have time to-"
"Please? It's really important!" Ender said, teleporting in front of them.
"Do you think annoying us will get you results?" the monk asked, as winds began to swirl around his hand. "If you don't intend to leave us be, then-"
"The thing I'm looking for…is holding a Prime Soul!" Ender explained.
This information caused the robot to start in shock. "Fujin, wait!" they said, stopping the now named monk, the winds around his hand dissipating. "A Prime Soul? Are you positive?"
"Uh-huh!" the Color Fighter nodded.
"What is a Prime Soul?" Fujin asked. "I've never heard of such a thing in Teyvat."
"It's a really, really, REALLY powerful human soul." Ender spoke up. "After somebody dies, sometimes the soul still gets stronger after they end up in the afterlife. So strong, in fact, that they end up making whole new bodies and bringing themselves back to life all on their own!"
"He's correct. I've heard stories." the robot said. "It is said that they have power beyond imagination. In the entire history of the Multiverse, only three recorded instances of a Prime Soul have been confirmed, and of those, only two are named. If that prison is holding one of those two…"
"Yeah! That's why I gotta get them out of their prison!" Ender said. "Could you help me?"
"If it truly is that important…very well." the robot said. "Fujin, it seems we have a change in plans."
"...Hm. Fine then." Fujin huffed. "This had better be worth our time."
"Alright!" Ender cheered. "I'm Ender, and I'm a Color Fighter apprentice, using the Cartoon Style, and working under Master Illuma!"
"I see. This is Fujin, a captain in Dark Periodic, the Elemental Universe branch." the robot gestured to the man. "As for me…you may call me Maera."
"You got it!" Ender nodded. "C'mon, let's go!" he said, heading off through the streets.
"It seems we're in for an odd night." Maera noted.
"Heh. Then it's a good thing I've lost my desire for normalcy." Fujin noted as the two Dark Garden members followed the Enderman.
Milo was looking out as the night air brushed through her body.
"Such a sight of this city at night… It's no wonder so many high-end personnel like to venture here." Milo said.
"Hmm?" Tsareena pondered.
"What's up?" Lucy asked.
"I thought I heard some people talking nearby.." Tsareena said.
"Probably one of the other criminals trying to ambush our guys and getting the tar beat out of them." Adora said.
"Let's just move on, it's not important." Cure Starlight waved off while reading a recent message Geiz sent on her Zikan Phone. "(So the truth finally came out, huh? This is gonna suck for Shoto and Endeavor. Although… why did Dabi choose to retreat when he's clearly going to murder those heroes…?)" She then turned to Lucy. "Hey, Lucy? Was Dabi part of another team besides the League of Villains?"
"No. He must have snuck in with the other criminals." Lucy said.
"I wouldn't be surprised. In cities like this with all of its glitz and glamor… There is also a very seedy underbelly." Milo said.
"Ain't that the truth." High Roller spoke up as he leaned on a nearby wall, continually flipping a coin. "Though in your cases, they won't prove to be too much of a problem. I bet that kid won't bother us again tonight."
"Wasn't he from Team Capricorn?" Adora asked, drawing her sword.
"Yeah." Lucy said.
"Guess you caught me…" High Roller smiled, before he pulled out a grappling hook. "Or not."
(Cue: La Distancia Para Un Duelo - Shiro SAGISU)
The man grappled up to the roof of a nearby building and began running, heading in the direction of the Excalibur Hotel.
"After him! He'll lead us right to his teammates." Tsareena said.
"Wait, hold on! It could be a trap!" Cure Starlight warned.
Team Virgo then began their pursuit of High Roller, as he entered the hotel from above. He ended up in the entrance lobby as the all-girls team caught up to him.
"Well…thanks for leading the way." Lucy said.
"Careful ladies, you never know…when tricksters are afoot." High Roller said.
Milo then shivered as she looked up to the ceiling as Mimikyu was waiting above. "It's an ambush!" she said as Mimikyu jumped down with Shadow Claw ready to strike.
"Mimikyu! How dare you…" Tsareena said before they heard a rumbling as Dan and Natsu broke through the wall and countered her.
"Damn. They planned all of this." Milo said.
"Yeah and you fell right into it." Catra said, joining the fight.
"Oh yeah! I'm all fired up now!" Natsu called out.
"Make it double for me." Dan said.
However… They noticed one member of Team Virgo missing.
No one noticed that Cure Starlight was hiding at one of the higher balconies, and she already did a Form Change into her Pirate Master Form, twirling her pirate pistols. "Let's make things showy." She smirked before leaping off the balcony and firing a bullet storm on the opposing team before landing in front of her teammates. "Hello there."
"She's the most dangerous one. We'll need to take her down first." Catra said before Adora went and clashed with her.
"Sorry, but that's not happening, Catra. Heh…reminds you of home huh?" Adora said.
"Except now…this is just a battle for fun and not for the fate of the world!" Catra said as the two ran off into the hotel.
"Well…that makes it easier. Three for me and one for Dan." Natsu said.
"Hey, why do I only get one?" Dan asked.
"Right. I should fight them all myself easy." Natsu said.
"That isn't the issue!" Dan said.
"Steady, boys." High Roller said. "Plenty of fighting to go around. Dragon Boy, go fight your girl. Danny, you get the dancer. As for me…" he said, cracking his fingers and rolling his neck. "I'll test my odds on the magical girl."
"Alright, sounds good. I'll take you on." Cure Starlight accepted, twirling her pistols. "Catch!" She threw one of her pistols at High Roller. As he was about to catch it, he was kicked in the face, which pushed him back while she caught her thrown pistol instead. "Made you look."
High Roller shook off the attack and replied with a grin. "Not bad. But you're forgetting the first rule of gambling: the house always wins." he said, as he snapped his fingers.
Next to him, a level appeared out of thin air, which he pulled, causing three reels to appear over his head. The reels spun until they landed on three ace suits.
BOOST CHANCE: ACE
High Roller smirked as he vanished in front of Cure Starlight's eyes, having gotten behind her with two playing cards in his hands, one in each, which turned black in an instant.
"Don't move." The man then rapidly slashed the PreCure all across her body, following up with a spin kick that sent her flying back a few feet before she planted herself back on the ground, the gambler not giving her an inch by drawing more cards and sending them flying at her.
Cure Starlight holstered her pistols and took out her pirate swords, quickly slashing the oncoming cards before retaliating with slash-waves.
High Roller jumped out of the way of the slashes, catching himself with one hand, then leaped again to land on his feet as he snapped his fingers again, the lever reappearing and being pulled again. The reels then showed three matching watermelons.
ABILITY CHANCE: WATERMELON
"Now we're talking…" High Roller grinned as he made a finger gun and pointed at Cure Starlight, a large ball of golden energy appearing above him. "Bang."
The orb fired out multiple smaller orbs, each of them homing in on the PreCure, who quickly ran to the side to evade while twirling her swords to block the shots before stopping at a hiding spot. "Why do I feel like I'm fighting Kamen Rider Geats in Fever Mode?" She muttered while catching her breath. "Alright then…" She holstered one sword and took out her Zikan Phone Blaster, set to Grapple Beam. She fired the beam upwards till it landed on the ceiling before launching herself up and onto one of the higher balconies. "I can't dodge forever, so I'll have to try something else. Would be nice if I had two…" She had an idea before turning to Lucy, who's busy fighting Natsu. "Bingo." She smirked before using the Grapple Beam to swing towards Lucy's location. And once she got close, Cure Starlight delivered a flying kick to Natsu's head, sending him flying to a wall. "Sorry to interrupt, but I need your help. I need Gemini's power."
"Okay…Open! Gate of the Twins! Gemini!" Lucy said summoning the Gemini twins.
"What can we do for you?" they both asked.
"Use it on me. Let's see if High Roller can handle two Pretty Cures at once." Cure Starlight requested.
"You got it!" Gemini said as they turned into a copy of Cure Starlight in Pirate Master Form.
"Always knew you'd be useful." Starlight 1 smirked.
"You said it." Starlight 2 agreed, sharing a high-five with the other Starlight. "Now if you'll excuse us…" She added before the two went after High Roller.
"Oh, duplication, huh?" High Roller remarked with a raised eyebrow. "Well then, let's-"
He ducked under a punch from Starlight 1.
"-try-"
A cartwheel to get away from a few pistol shots from Starlight 2.
"-this!" he finished snapping his fingers, as the level appeared again, the gambler having to pull it and run as it landed on three cherries.
The gambler ran before he found himself with a wall to his back and two Starlights in front of him.
"C'mon, let's take it easy on each other, huh?" High Roller asked, his hands up.
"Wish we could." Starlight 1 said.
"But this is a tournament." Starlight 2 added.
"Oh, I wasn't talking to you two ladies." the gambler clarified. "I was talking to me."
Starlight 2 then felt a tap on her shoulder before getting hit with a wicked hit to the head by…High Roller?
ABILITY CHANCE: CHERRY
"C'mon, kiddo, I learned the ins and outs of card tricks in the fourth grade." High Roller said as his clone kept Starlight 2 busy. "You wanna win in this town, it comes down to two things: skill and luck!" he said as he sent a Haki-hardened card at the PreCure.
Starlight 2 then went and took the attack meant for Starlight 1.
"Gemini!" Lucy called out as she ran over. "Are you…"
"I'm…fine. But…I know what his power is now. It's…from a Law." Starlight 2 said.
"A Law…like those things the Hobbyists used." Lucy said.
"Well…no point in hiding it. Law of Gambling. Depending on what I roll, I get a neat little boost or a power, depending on what I match up." High Roller said.
"So that's your power." Starlight 1 noted. "And I hate to know what happens if you get a Lucky 7."
"Now that would be telling, wouldn't it?" High Roller chuckled. "You got skills, kid, I'll give you that. But those will only get you so far. Sometimes, you gotta leave things to chance. So let's see if you can hold out!" he said, rushing towards Starlight 1 with a Haki-infused fist.
She quickly dodge it by leaping over High Roller and quickly used her PreChange Mirror and her Martial Adept card set to undergo a Form Change. "Pretty Cure, Kururin Mirror Change!" And in a flash of light, she changed into her Martial Adept Form and took a combat stance with one hand behind her back and her other hand moving forward. "Never thought I'd fight a Haki user, but hey, there's always a first. You're pretty damn good, that's something I'd have to admit, High Roller."
"Thanks. You don't get to be a hero in this city without being good." High Roller said, as he snapped his fingers and pulled his lever once more, this time getting a horseshoe. "Oh yeah, here we go!"
W-W-WILD MATCH!
Two more reels appeared above the gambler's head, as a strawberry and jack appeared.
STRAWBERRY JACK: FACE WHAT COMES HEAD ON!
"Time to kick this into overdrive!" High Roller said as he made a 'come on' gesture to Cure Starlight.
"Heh, very well…" Starlight 1 smirked and rushed towards High Roller, starting with a slide kick.
The gambler managed to sidestep the kick, responding in kind to Starlight 1's side, sending her tumbling across the floor. High Roller went in pursuit, jumping up and aiming a strike at the magical girl's center, which she narrowly rolled out of the way of, getting back on her feet, then retaliating with a flying bicycle kick.
This time, High Roller took the kick to the upper chest, stumbling two steps back before he spun around with a Haki-infused kick that locked with the PreCure's next attack, making a stalemate the two jumped back from, each of them launching ranged attacks that collided with the other. Afterwards, Starlight 1 rushed ahead while evading the ranged attacks and attacked with several punches and spin kicks when she got close.
High Roller took and countered Starlight's punches and kicks in tandem, taking damage, but also countering it in return.
"You ain't bad at all, Starlight! I'm startin' to enjoy this!" the gambling hero smirked.
"You're not too bad yourself! This tournament really has some rare diamonds in the rough!" Starlight 1 smirked back as the two continue trading blows with each other.
"Hey High Roller! What made you wanna enter this tournament anyway?" Catra asked as she bounded across the hotel entrance way as the individual fights were being led straight to Excaliburs Tournament of Kings arena as they battled their way through the hotel's arcade, the "Fun Dungeon".
"Honestly? I'm here to rep my city!" High Roller said. "I'm what some call the hometown hero of Las Vegas. Not as exciting as your lives, but…as long as you're all here, might as well prove that the street cleaners can compete with the big leagues!"
"Ah, so that's why. I can respect that." Starlight 1 noted while delivering an axe kick which pushed High Roller back. "For my case, I'm not just here for the prize, I'm representing my team and the Rebellion."
"Your law is amazing, though, so why aren't you trying to make a name for yourself in the hero Universe in somewhere like where Izuku comes from? I'm sure you'd be pretty popular!" Adora said as she missed a slash on Catra, barely avoiding property damage by slicing a Time Crisis 4 console in half.
"Ah, I'm not the type of guy t'be lumped in with Pro Heroes. Besides, going bigger and bigger just means people start expecting you to be able to carry the world on your shoulders. Me? I prefer to take it easy here."
"Not one for the spotlight, even though you're showy… that's unusual." Milo said.
"What can I say? I'm an unusual kind of guy." High Roller replied as he threw a deck of razor cards at his opponent.
"You know what though?" Starlight 1 then caught the cards before they could touch her. "That's fine with me, High Roller. You chose your path, while I chose mine. Don't stop following the path you believe in!" She then threw the cards back in faster speed, causing the gambler to evade by running to the side.
Catra noticed how close everyone was to breaking things, Natsu more than anybody as all his strikes to try and hit Lucy were to smash things. "Hey, maybe we should take this somewhere where we can't break anything expensive?" she recommended.
"Follow me! I know where we can duke it out without breaking the hotel!" High Roller said as he disengaged from the fight and headed to a door marked 'Tournament of Kings'.
The rest of the group followed High Roller, and soon enough, they found themselves in an arena style stage filled with dirt, surrounded by wooden stands, each one sectioned by a certain control. There were 10 sections in all, each one having a different country behind it, some of them being Austria, Norway, Russia, and Sweden. At the right side of the arena, there was a castle-like stage setup.
"Welcome to the Excalibur Hotel's most famous attraction! The Tournament of Kings!" High Roller said. "The owners use this place to put on stage shows and, on occasion, duel over profits and territory. But since they aren't here at the moment, it's free for us to brawl in!"
"Wow…" Starlight 1 remarked in awe. "You know I've never been to Las Vegas before, so this is amazing. And you know what, I think this is a perfect place for our climax. One team is gonna be sent packing, and it's not going to be mine!"
(Song Change: Principio De Lucha - Shiro SAGISU)
"Don't be too sure about that. I got one last spin in me." High Roller said as he spun his Law again. This time it landed on three sevens.
LUCKY! MULTIPLIER, TIMES SEVEN!
"Oh boy, I'm on a roll now!" the gambler laughed. "Sorry, sweetie, but I'm not sure you can scratch me now!"
"Hmm? Oh, wait. The fruits give you powers, so the cards give you boosts…so the jacks probably increase your durability, right?" Dan remarked.
"Huh, you catch on quick, kid." High Roller nodded.
"The question is… how long will it last?" Starlight 2 asked while firing her pirate pistols at the gambler, causing him to evade with some backflips.
"I could say the same for your little double team trick!" High Roller retorted. "Celestial Spirits can't stay in our plane of existence forever. They gotta go back to their world when their times are up, or if their contractor runs outta magic."
"Gemini, how much time left?" Starlight 1 asked.
"Unfortunately, I'm nearly out of time." Starlight 2 replied.
"Then you're gonna have to go for broke. Make it count, okay?" Starlight 1 requested.
"Gotcha. Here!" Starlight 2 tossed her pistols and took out her swords before rotating her PreBrace several times.
"Thanks!" Starlight 1 caught the pistols before rotating her PreBrace. "Let's go. One Final Wave."
"Uh oh! With Gemini's time running out, it looks like Cure Starlight is planning to go all in and hit High Roller with a double dose of Final Attacks!" Magenta said.
"¡Caramba!" High Roller said. Despite him being in trouble, he didn't move, unable to keep a smile off his face. "Alright then…hit me with your best shot, sweetheart!"
"With pleasure!" The two Starlight's complied with their weapons glowing in full and twirling them.
"Pretty Cure…!" Starlight 1 fired a combined energy blast from her pistols.
"Final Starlight…!" Starlight 2 followed up with a powerful 'X' slash-wave with her swords as both attacks fused together into an even stronger blast as it flew towards High Roller and took the hit while he's blocking with the force of the attack pushing him back.
Afterwards, the two Starlights threw their weapons away and rushed ahead while rotating the PreBraces several times as their right foot began glowing. "Wave Storm!" And then they leaped into a powerful flying energy kick as their combined attack landed on the projectile, amplifying the force of the attack, causing High Roller to lose guard.
"Well…" High Roller sighed. "Like they say: You can't win 'em all. Guess I'm cashing out on this one…" he chuckled before his guard was broken and the attacks connected, sending him flying straight into the castle stage setup.
"And High Roller just had his lucky streak snapped!" Magenta said. "Team Virgo has the lead with one member of Team Capricorn KO'd!"
"Nice Job, Akira! But you should probably fall back and recuperate." Adora said.
"Yeah, High Roller took a lot out of me." Starlight 1 replied, reverting back to Base Form. "Thanks for the help, Gemini. You did great being me."
"Anytime for a friend, Cure Starlight." Starlight 2 replied back as the two shared a high-five before she vanished.
"Have fun, ladies! And thanks again for Gemini, Lucy!" Cure Starlight waved to her teammates before retreating to a hiding spot to recover.
"Aw…it was no-" Lucy said before being dealt a surprised kick by Natsu.
"Surprise ambush!" Natsu called out as Lucy was knocked out.
"And Lucy is out of it too. So it's 4-4 now." Magenta said.
"She's gonna be so mad at you when she wakes up." Catra said to Natsu.
"That's fine. It'll just be a fun fight. And I'm all fired up!" Natsu said as his flames intensified as the hotel started to melt around them.
"Aw, no…!" Adora said.
"Well…too bad for you…we got two of the best powerhouses on our side…well…three of them actually." Catra said as Mimikyu pounced on Adora and captured her in its shadowy claws.
"Mimikyu has captured Adora! Virgo's down to Tsareena, Cure Starlight and Milo!" Magenta called out.
"Natsu has made this fight dangerous. We should try to end this before the building comes down on top of us." Milo recommended.
But then a wormhole appeared before Team Virgo and popped out Cure Starlight's head. "I'd go in here if I were you. We'll finish this somewhere else. Call it a tactical retreat."
"She's right." Tsareena said as she and Milo fled through the portal before it vanished.
"Dang it…and just when it was getting good." Natsu said.
"Yeah…not looking forward to what Nami has to say when we get the bill for this!" Dan said, pointing to the whole melted hotel.
"Yeah… She is so gonna kill us." Natsu said.
"At least I'm safe since we're not on the same team." Catra said.
"Yeah. We may have lost a guy but we got two of theirs." Dan said.
They soon pulled High Roller out of the rubble, who was more or less unharmed despite the whole hotel being burned up.
"Geez… you big hero types sure know how to make a mess." High Roller said.
"This is probably one of the biggest messes Natsu's made, not gonna lie. Usually he only does low key damage like setting a pool on fire or denting a few lockers." Catra said.
"And before you ask about how he sets a pool on fire, I'll tell you the same thing anyone else would. You do not want to know." Dan said.
"I'll keep that in mind." High Roller said. "Well, guess since I got knocked out, I can't keep helpin you guys out. But, I'm willin' to place my bet on the four of you."
"Hey, you were great, keeping up with Cure Starlight, don't undersell yourself. And thanks to you, we knocked her team down to three." Catra said.
"While Milo and Tsareena should be easy, Starlight is a whole other league. Even for a Magical Girl." Natsu said.
"Don't worry guys. Luckily, we haven't played all our cards." Dan said pointing to his Emblem Bracelet.
"You brought Tiki into the tournament with you?" Catra said. "Are using Emblems even allowed?"
"It doesn't matter anyway since I can't even get hers off." Dan said.
"Well only cause I'm waiting till we get all 7." Tiki said.
"Wait, what? Then you could have gotten off at any time?" Dan asked.
"Yes. But I really enjoy being with you, a very trusted friend." Tiki said.
"Sounds like she doesn't wanna be on anyone else's arm but yours, pal." High Roller said.
"Then…looks like we'll be together till the end." Dan said, raising his Dragon Blade high.
"Now that's a pair I'd bet on any day." High Roller said. "Alright, you fellas get goin. I'm gonna go get checked up on. But I'll be rootin' for ya."
"Thanks for the help, High Roller. We'll be sure not to waste your bet on us." Catra smirked.
A few blocks away from Mandalay Bay…
"Stupid Huntress." The Diver Boys' leader grumbled as he and his men trudged through the streets, battered and bruised. "Doesn't she know that the whole point of Pokémon is to catch them? It's in the damn tagline!"
"Ah, don't sweat it, boss. There's plenty of other Pokémon we can go after." one of his henchmen said. "What if we captured that Tsareena? Some sick freak out there will probably pay for them. And all they've got protecting them is a few magical girls and a dancer."
"Yeah…good idea." the leader nodded. "Alright, let's-" he started before the aquatic criminals heard a loud sound coming from a dark alley; the sound seemed to be a frog's croaking, yet it sounded…wrong. "Huh? You guys hear that?"
Curiosity won over them as they entered the alley with weapons drawn, despite the unease they felt forming in their stomachs.
"Hey! Whoever you are…show yourself!" the leader spoke, trying to keep the unease out of his voice.
From deep within the valley, the Diver Boys heard the croaking again, causing them to point their weapons down the alley, even as their bodies shook and chills went down their spines.
"Y-Y'know, maybe it's just a frog." one of them said.
"This deep in the city? No way." another said.
"T-Then what's making that…?"
The question was answered as…something emerged from the darkness.
"Wh-What the… What the freak?!" the leader exclaimed. "What the…freak?! What is that?!"
The…thing turned its gaze at the Diver Boys, as their unease gave way to pure terror.
"K-K-Kill it! Kill it NOW!" the leader screamed as they fired their weapons at…it.
There was no one watching from outside the alley. No one to hear the screams of the criminals. No one to hear the silence that followed. No one to watch the…thing exit the alley without taking a step. No one to wonder what had become of the Diver Boys. No one to care.
