"Business Partners"
Pt 1
"If we didn't know better Tara, one could not be faulted for thinking that New York City was being Destroyed by a horde of giant Alien Monsters!" Travis Marshal proclaimed in that Chirpy Tv Announcer way, while gesturing at a Massively Impressive and Orchestrated Scene of Seemingly Chaotic Destruction happening behind him!
"You're not wrong there, Travis, it's a strange sight for sure, but not an uncommon one if you're from Chicago!" Tara Tadiddle chuckled in that way all TV News Announcers do. They both turned to look at what they were describing to the viewing audiences at home watching from their TV sets.
An entire city block was being demolished! Dilapidated and condemned buildings collapsed and fell into large piles of brick, concrete, and steel mixed with bellowing clouds of dust ascending into the dark New York night sky!
Multilegged and Armed Machines crawled over and around the rubble, smashing and crashing through the buildings like they were made of paper! The Machines actively moved over the debris effortlessly demolishing and moving the rubble, while other just as strange looking vehicles gathered it up and placed it into containers to be hauled away.
All while large crowds of New Yorkers stood behind fences watching. Fascinated by what they saw. It was like seeing Giant Creatures preform a well-practiced dance albeit a very destructive one. Just the kind New Yorkers really like.
"It's a very strange sight for sure Trevor, but like I was saying, not an uncommon one for the Chicago area, where Prominent Businessman Lawrence Limburger carries out such scenes on a very regular basis!"
"I totally agree Tara, which is probably why New York's own Prominent Business Mogul, David Xanatos is showing such interest in Limburger Industries Technology, a subject Xanatos knows quite a bit about!" On that cue, the cameras switched from the Demolition Zone to a raised observation booth above the crowded streets where both mentioned Corporate Leaders sat watching. David Xanatos looked on with interest as he took in the sight, while next to him sat Lawrence Limburger.
If there was ever an example of two extremely different sides of the same coin, they were the prime example of it. Xanatos, tall, handsome with a powerful athletic build, while casually attired in his typical finely made black attire, just exuding an aura of strength, confidence, and intelligence.
Sitting next to him was Lawrence Limburger, who also showed a similar impression of confidence, but there all similarities ended. He's borderline on horrific obesity lent his body shape a somehow nonhuman profile.
Wearing a just as finely made suit of deep purples, with gold buttons, and white gloves, he too shared the same level of intelligence, confidence, while his seemed to have a more predatory menace in his cold black inhuman eyes.
A Heavy Crash rumbled across the area as the last standing remnants fell. The Machines continued to do their task very effectively. The Crowds cheered and clapped while the two business moguls stood, waved at the crowds, and most importantly the Press, and the always welcomed photo-opportunity. Shaking hands before turning and leaving the small Observation booth.
"…and there they go Tara, two giants of the financial world, after what appears to be a very successful demonstration of Limburger's Construction Robots, they're off to a business gala atop Xanthos's Manhattan Skyscraper for a meeting with the New York Mayor, and other High-ranking City, and State Officials."
The TV Cameras followed the familiar sleek black and red helicopter taking off and moving off into the New York Night. "…and what a venue for a meeting it is, Travis. High up in one of, it not the world's tallest building in the beautifully restored Wyvern Castle, high above the clouds!"
"This has been Travis Marshal with WVRN."
"And I'm Chicago's Tara Tadiddle with WBKR, wishing all a good night and a hopefully promising future for both our hometowns from this joint venture."
"Goodnight, everybody" The two anchors chorused while smiling and waving goodbyes as the special came to an end, and the New York Crowds cheered and clapped with continuing to enjoy the spectacle being put on in front of them.
"I can't believe you dragged us all the way over here just for this." A gravely voice grumpily growled from the deep shadows of a near by rooftop overlooking the Demolition Zone.
"Hey, it's not my fault you lack the intelligence or imagination to gain anything from what was a very impressive display of robotic Artificial Intelligence!" A slightly higher pitched reply came laced with annoyance.
"Tech Geek." Brooklyn The Thin Brown scaled and white-haired Gargoyle sarcastically insulted his smaller comrade.
"Grouch!" Lexington the gold yellowish and smallest member of the trio overarchingly sighed at the still getting used to being in charge compatriot. "I didn't make you tag along, and besides, it's also not my fault if you failed to learn anything from this."
"I'm surprised you could even hear anything over the racket his growling stomach is making" Brooklynn pointed with rolling eyes while pointing at the third member of the Trio. Lexington couldn't stop himself from smiling at the friendly jab.
"I wish Matt wasn't on a case tonight, would have been great if he could've bought us some hot dogs or snacks." Broadway, the Lagest Member sighed forlornly looking down at the row at the common spectacle of New York Hot Dog and Snack Vendor Carts clustered around the crowds selling their wares.
"All the pity Broadway, but He is a Detective, and that is a bit of a full-time job, kind of gets in the way of babysitting us." Brooklynn joked. Lex once again not able to keep the smile from his face at imagining the reaction of their newest friend if he'd heard that little jab.
"…or Elisa, I really wish she was back, and Goliath and Bronx. I hope they're all ok." Broadway sighed again, apparently not hearing his clan brothers' jokes. All jocularity vanishing at being reminded of their absent Clan Brothers and Elisa Maza.
"Don't give in Big Guy, last we heard they were doing ok, let's just hope their Weird Round the World Magical Mystery Tour will be done soon, and they can come home!" Brooklynn doing his best to keep their spirits up, doing is his best to be their interim leader Voice, silently wishing Goliath would return to take up the responsibility again.
"Which is why we need to step up and make sure they've got a city to come home too, like Hudson is aways Reminding us, which is also a good reason to be here to witness this. Who knows what Xanatos could get up to with this guy from Chicago's Robotic Tech."
Brooklynn couldn't stop himself from growling at Lex for making this point. "That's all we need, a King Kong-Sized Steel Clan to deal with, thanks for that mental image, Lex." He growled shooting the smaller gargoyle a sarcastic dirty look.
"Heh, Oops!' Lex smirked. "Like Hudson says, it pays to take every opportunity to keep track on your Enemies and the company they keep. Which means we can't just do the same patrol every night. Constant Awareness and Observation are Tools every Warrior needs to practice." Lex pointed out. "Thanks, Yoda. I'll keep that in Mind." Brooklynn moaned.
"On that Note, I'm surprised the Wanna be Biker and Tech Junkie haven't spotted what looks like 3 Super Motorcycles right over there." Broadway said nonchalantly. "Huh, what, where?" They both gasped looking down, at the busy street, until Broadway shook his head NO and pointed not at the street below but at a rooftop across the area!
"Come on Sweetheart, we're in NYC, ya gotta go down there and get us some Actual for Real New York Hot Dogs, ya just Gotta!" The White Furred Martian whined and begged while all but drooling looking down at the Snack Vendors on the street.
"Hey, you want grub you can cough up the cash, this little unplanned trip hasn't exactly been cheap so for!" Charley Davidson vehemently pointed out from behind Vinnie, in her usual place seated behind the Hungry Freedom Fighter on his 's Red Rocket Cycle.
"She's right Vincent, we aint here on vacation, we're here to stop Limburger from doing whatever it is he's got planned for this burg." Throttle the Tan Martian riding the Black Monster Cycle pointed out while instinctively siding with Charley's point.
"Yeah, Lil Bro, we don't want the Big Cheese turning the Big Apple into the Rotten Apple Core." Modo the Gray Martian chuckled, riding the Purple Cruiser Bike jokingly joined in on reminding the Team's Hot Head of their mission.
"If I don't get at least, one Actual for Real Coney Dog, I'm gonna, well I don't know what I'll do but…" Vinnie grumbled while Charley continued to list off the cost of this trip. "There's the parts and fuel to put the Tri-Cycle-Jet back together so we could fly here, the Rental on the Garage Locker to hide it…" She said holding up a finger for each hit to her rapidly emptying wallet.
"Look on the Bright Side Charley, we save you a lot of cash on parking by doing it up here on rooftops and not down on the street!" Modo cheerfully pointed out. "Sigh, Thanks Big Guy, that really helps." She smiled at that effort to keep her spirits up.
"Yeah, and Four-By was nice enough to mind the Last Chance while you're gone too, seeing on how he owned us Big Time for helping him put the Pit Boss in a pen!" Vinnie added with one of his typically Self Pride Praising laced remarks.
"It is So Nice to have Actually Helpful Friends!" She replied with a glare aimed squarely at Vinnie, who just reacted with mocked shock expression at the personal attack. "Ok, Children, if you haven't noticed, our Prey is leaving the scene, so we should probably try to, oh I don't know, follow him?" Throttle shaking his head at their antics.
"Now Stink Fishing, that's one of My Fav Sports!" Modo growled while revving up his cycle's engine. "All Work and No Play, aint the Martian Way!" Vinnie laughed while doing the same. "Time to go make sure The City that Never Sleeps don't get its Lights knocked out!" Throttle added turning his bike to follow the departing Helicopter!
"Don't you guys take anything seriously?" Charley sighed at the jocularity as they made to jump from the rooftop. "Just the business of Being Heroes Babe!" Charley could only roll her eyes as the bike's jets fired and they roared off the roof, all laughing as they went.
What passed for Quiet in a City like New York, the shadows and quasi-silence returned to the rooftop for a few seconds. It was only disturbed by a trio of stealthy gliding winged shadows gliding after them.
