Chapter 36 Swapping Bodies (A Fine Mess)
A.N. – So, one major change is that the disintegration for Yumi and Odd will happen much faster than in the original. Also, when the character speaks in a fine mess, it is the character VOICE, NOT the body they are in.
Guest – I have written a story or two that involves the Volcano Replica in a way as well as the exclusive Volcanoids. If you want a crack at it, first you have to start an account. Then, write your story. After that, I would say look up 'how to post/update a story on fanfiction' on YouTube. There are two videos on there that helped me and will explain it better than I can.
Short Summary – After Yumi and Odd switch bodies; Jeremy, Aelita, and A have to find a way to change them back before they disappear completely.

A and Ulrich are in the scanner room and Ulrich is flipping a coin in the air. "Heads it's Odd first, tails it's Yumi" Ulrich says.
"This is something you don't leave up to chance. Whoever comes here first is completely random" A comments back.
"Well sometimes you're lucky."
"Like with her on Lyoko?"
Ulrich blushes at this. "I don't think that was lucky. It just so happened that Xana attacked me when I was with Yumi and we're here now," Ulrich says, stumbling. "Heads, Odd." The scanner opens revealing Yumi instead of Odd. "Maybe I'm not lucky today." Yumi looks at herself, like she doesn't know who or what she is. "Yumi, are you okay?"
The other two scanners open and Odd and Aelita appear. "What am I doing over here?" Yumi says, as Odd.
"Uh, I, uh, think we got a little problem here" Odd says, as Yumi.
The group is in the lab and Jeremy runs a check and sees that their DNA sequences were swapped during the devirtualizations. "Well?" Odd asks.
"I guess there's a little bug in the rematerialization program" Jeremy says, since there is nothing else behind it.
"So it's not Xana?" A asks.
"No, he isn't involved in this one." A closes her eyes, thankful she doesn't need to have another one-on-one with Xana.
"Well is there a fix? We can't stay like this!" Yumi says.
"What about going back to Lyoko and devirtualizing all over again?" Odd wonders.
"If a bug caused this, there's a good chance that bug still exists within the software" A says.
"Right, and if that happens again, you'll have no bodies at all!" Jeremy warns.
"Um, okay, bad idea" Odd comments back.
"So, what do we do then?" Ulrich asks.
"Only option, fix the program" Jeremy replies.
"How long will it take ya? A couple of hours a the most?" Odd asks.
"Well, I might be ready to go tomorrow if I work through the night."
"Hold on there, if I work with you, we could be ready to go by tonight. I know a little bit about this software" A says. Jeremy may have developed the Lyoko bands, but Aelita helped design them with the features.
"How do you know?" Jeremy asks, wondering.
"The Lyoko bands," A replies, lifting her arm. "The software used for travel between the real world and Lyoko uses the same system as the devirtualization program."
"I'll stay here too," Aelita adds. "With the three of us, we'll figure this out and fix it."
"Okay, so now the main problem is how to fix a program this fast?' Jeremy says.
"I'm gonna head to Lyoko and look at the program directly" A says.
"You can do that?"
"Xana did, so why can't I."
At this rate, Jeremy was hoping for some solutions. A opened up her Lyoko door and appeared in sector five. She headed to the one place where the answers would be held, Xana's abode. "We ready?" Xana asks.
"No, not yet. But I do need your help" A says.
"With what? There's only so much I can do."
"I need the access to the devirtualization program."
"That's complicated. When I did that, I modified the supercalculator itself. Infected a few files that disabled a few firewalls that allowed me to get in unnoticed."
"Is it possible to access these firewalls from the database in sector 5?"
"You're talking to the brain here. I memorized the firewalls. Of course you can access them. Butt taking them down from there may prove to be a challenge."
"Why is that?"
"Those programs are imbedded within the supercomputer themselves."
"I think if I can access them, it will be enough." Before she left, she thought of something. "Be ready, cause tonight, you may have a shot." She didn't want to risk Odd and Yumi, but she needed Xana to apply pressure in order to keep the warriors believing the Scyphozoa was a threat.
A headed to the celestial dome and accessed the interface. "Jeremy, I gonna try to access the devirtualization programs from the interface, but I need you to take down the firewalls that will allow you to access the program itself."
"Okay, send me everything when you get it" Jeremy replies.
A searched through the interface for the programs Xana accessed to modify the program. "Found it. Sending it to you now." She sends the programs to Jeremy.
Aelita's Point of View
Jeremy saw the programs pop up on the computer. "You ready Aelita?"
"Yeah, let's go!"
They started cracking the firewalls.
Dinner time arrived and they had finally accessed the program. "I was right. It is a bug in the program" Jeremy says.
"But what bugged up?" Aelita asks.
"That's the thing, I don't know. For some reason, the program just messed up during the time I ran the rematerialization."
"So how do we fix this?"
"We rewrite the program, restart from Lyoko and then it should fix everything."
Jeremy and Aelita start to work on it.
Yumi as Odd's Point of View
It was currently 8 o'clock and Yumi was waiting for Jeremy to call to fix everything. "You okay?" Ulrich asks.
"Yeah, just a little freaked out" Yumi replies.
"About this situation?"
"Which one?"
"The body swap. But what's the other situation?"
"Where do you see yourself in ten years?"
"Why do you ask that?"
"Because I see a similar situation like this, with me in my body and living together with you." They both smile as the hand starts to disappear. "Uh Ulrich-" She starts as it stops. "Did you see that?"
"Yeah, let's hope Jeremy fixed the program" he replies as he dials.
Aelita's Point of View
"The devirtualization program is all fixed. Just need to reboot from Lyoko" Jeremy says.
"But what about our hands disappearing?" Yumi asks with concern.
"Yeah, that was pretty freaky experience" Odd adds.
"My guess, your atoms are starting to split. Since your bodies are swapped, they have become completely unstable and if we don't fix this fast, you'll disappear completely" Jeremy replies.
"Then we got no time to lose. We need to fix this right away!" Ulrich says.
"Right get down to the scanner room. A will meet you there."
A's Point of View
A saw the for land in the ice sector. Yumi as Odd was able to walk normally, but Odd as Yumi was having trouble keeping balance. "How do you walk in these things?" Odd asks as he trips and falls.
"Walking in heels is harder than it looks, huh?" Yumi says.
"There's the tower" Aelita says, pointing to it.
They all run towards it. Aelita entered the tower as the others waited for her to finish. "No welcoming committee?" Ulrich asks.
"Maybe he's waiting for something" A replies, knowing Xana must be preparing something in sector five.
Aelita exits the tower. "We have a big problem. There are inhibitors that run the programs. We have to deactivate them if we want to reboot the program."
'Inhibitors? Why didn't we see this though?' A thinks. "Why didn't they pop up after the program was modified?"
"There must be some kind of failsafe system protecting the program. Making it harder to modify without damaging the software too much" Jeremy concludes.
"The only way to deactivate them is in sector 5" Aelita says.
"Then let's get to the edge of the sector" Ulrich replies.
The group was the edge of the sector as a megatank appears behind them. "A megatank!" A warns. Ulrich quickly turns around as he stabs it, destroying it, as well as getting himself devirtualized.
The other four appear in the arena and the wall opens up. The four run through and the hallway opens up into a circular shape and the countdown begins.
"The countdown has begun, so hurry it up! And watch out for the Scyphozoa" Jeremy warns them. The four of them run into an empty room.
"Xana having an off day today. He forgot to put in the floor" Yumi says.
A creeper appears behind them. It fires and misses. Yumi tries to destroy it with Odd's arrows but also misses. "You missed a creeper at point blank range." He tries to throw Yumi's fan but also misses.
"Energy field!" A throws her energy orb directly in its face. It screams in pain before it explodes. "We need to fix this quickly because this body swap ain't working."
Another creeper appears from underneath. It hits Odd as Yumi, and he/she appears to be floating. Yumi quickly turns around and destroys the creeper with Odd's arrow.
"Wow cool!" Odd says.
"Xana's modified the gravity in this room" Jeremy tells them.
As Odd looks back at the three, he notices a third creeper appear behind them. "Hey!"
It fires and Yumi fires another arrow destroying it.
"Odd move it. The countdown is about to end" Jeremy informs him.
"I didn't get enough momentum. I won't make it in time!" Odd says as he struggles to get to the key.
A fourth creeper arrives and Yumi blocks it with Odd's shield. "Energy field!" A says destroying it.
"How many life points do you have left?" Yumi asks Odd.
"Lots. Why?" Odd replies.
Yumi fires at him/her and gets pushed closer to the key. He/she pushes it and a door on the other side opens up. Also, a fifth creeper appears behind them. Yumi grabs Aelita and jumps off the edge, firing at the monster. The creeper is able to hit Yumi/Odd and she loses her grip on Aelita.
"Oh no, the Scyphozoa!" Jeremy tells them as the monster descends from the top.
"Oh perfect timing" A says quietly, not knowing Xana would be on point here. The creeper fires at A in the back as she's looking at the monster and Odd and Yumi start to disappear again. The Scyphozoa starts to steal Aelita's memory. "Energy field!" She fires as the two stop disappearing. Odd pulls out Yumi's fan and throws it, destroying the monsters tentacles. It releases Aelita and descends down. A activates her wings and flies over to Aelita. "I got her. Just hang tight." A grabs Aelita and the tow head off to the celestial dome.
Aelita and A take the elevator and go to the interface. "Find and disable those inhibitors quickly" Jeremy informs her.
Aelita starts to search through the data. She notices some things but decides to keep quiet for now. She finds the inhibitors and disables them. "Done. The controls are yours Jeremy" Aelita informs him.
"Let's leave before Xana sends us some unwelcome guests" A says as a vehicle appears, and a tunnel opens up. Aelita uses a way tower and A uses her Lyoko door to go back to the factory.
A arrives in the elevator with Ulrich and sees two scanners open as Odd and Yumi fall out of them. Ulrich runs up to Odd.
"Odd, is it really you?" He asks him, hoping it's still not Yumi.
"Of course. What's the matter with you? Don't you recognize your own friends?" Odd replies.
"Dork. Jeremy, we're okay. It worked."
"I gotta go speak to Jeremy" Aelita says.
Aelita's Point of View
Aelita reappears in the lab. "Hey Aelita, what's up?" Jeremy asks.
"When I was looking for the inhibitors in the interface, I noticed A accessed some files. But the weird thing I noticed is that these files all held Xana's virtual signature. Like he used them before" A says.
"What are you saying?"
"What if A is working against us rather than with us?"
"Impossible. If she were working with Xana, he wouldn't be targeting her like he targets us."
"Think about Jeremy. The interface contains Xana's personal data, but if Xana puts his virtual signature on anything, the only one who can access it is him. A knows something we don't, and I don't know if we can trust her fully."
"The only files that A accessed were the devirtualization programs, which Xana modified himself by infecting the supercalculator. Is it possible that his virtual signature was left behind after the attack ended, like a virtual scent."
"I don't know what to believe, but it wouldn't hurt to keep a closer eye on her. There is definitely something off with her."
A.N. – A's true alliance with Xana is coming to a light. I think the full truth will be revealed in Final Round, but not believed till this story's version of episode sixty-six. I am not going to say the title as it would be spoilers. I already dropped a clue in one of the earlier chapters that might hint at might happen in Final Round. PM me with story ideas!
