Syrus and Zane were sitting on the couch in the living room of their house, wanting for their mom and dad. They said they have important news for them. Zane looked over at his younger brother. Ever since they dueled each in the GX Tournament, tension has been high between the brothers.
'I still can't believe I did that to him! What kind of big brother am I?' Zane thought as his parents walked into the room.
Their mom, Callista, is a dark skin woman in her mid-twenties. She has dark brown hair and golden-brown eyes. She has a bright red dress with darker sleeves, white socks that went up to her knees and red penny loafers.
Their dad, Isamu, is a man in his late-twenties that looked just like Syrus. But he had Zane's eyes and was a bit taller than him.
"Boys! We have muy grande news!" Callista said to the two brothers. "What is it?" They both asked them.
"We finally got that promotion we've been wanting!" Isamu told the boys.
"Eso es excelente!/Way to go Mom and Dad!" The two brothers said, Syrus in Spanish while Zane in Japanese.
"But..." Their mom started.
"But?" Syrus asked.
Callista and Isamu looked at each other before she continued. "We have to move to America."
"What?!" The two brothers said at the same time in disbelief. "What about our friends here?" Zane asked. "And what about my third year at Duel Academy!?" Syrus looked like he was on the verge of tears. He made so many friends at Duel Academy, he did'n want to leave them.
"I'm sorry boys, but I think it might be safer for you two. After everything you've been through these last two years."
The two brothers looked at their father, knowing he was right. They have been through a lot these past two years.
"But don't worry! We'll be living in the same neighborhood as your prima!" She said to them.
That cheered them up a little. Their cousin, Alma Rodriguez, was an amazing person. She's very smart and an excellent horse rider and jumper with her Tobiano paint mare Button. The two brothers haven't seen her since Syrus started at Duel Academy.
But they are still sad that they have to move because they have to leave their friends.
"When are we leaving?" Zane asked.
"The sixteenth of next month." Isamu answered. "So we have to get everything packed by then."
"Zane, you also have to give back that Underworld deck back to Chancellor Sheppard tomorrow young man." Callista said in a stern tone.
Zane just nod his head.
"Can we say good bye to our friends before we leave?" Syrus asked his parents.
Callista then sat down beside her younger son. "Of course you can. In fact, you and Zane can spend the day with them a week before we leave."
She then pulled him into a hug.
"We can even sign you two up for the riding school at Horseland. Loba and Senshi will be at the stables there."
"Dad's right Sy. And will be able to visit our friends and they can visit us." Zane said, causing his younger brother to smile a bit. Syrus was glad that Zane was starting to be his old self again. 'I just hope he doesn't blame himself for me getting hospitalized. I was the one who challenged him. And it was his old manager Shroud who manipulated him.'
~A Month Later~
Jaden, Alexis, Aster, Chazz, and Hassleberry were on their way to see Zane and Syrus, with Alexis' older brother, Atticus, leading the way. "I still can't believe you know where they live Atticus." Jaden said.
"Well me and Zane did have to look after the house while his parents and Syrus were visiting someone named Alma our first Winter break our first year at Duel Academy." The older Rhodes sibling explained to them.
"I still can't believe Zane and the shrimp live out here. Away from the city." Chazz said as he swatted away some bugs. "Hard to believe they could live in a bug infested place. Huh boss?" Ojama Yellow, one of Chazz's three spirit partners, said to the black coated teen.
The group then came to a house with a red roof and a gardening shed with a yellowish-orange roof beside it. In the backyard is a barn.
"I have to agree with Chazz. It's kind of hard to believe that Zane and Syrus live here." Alexis said. Jaden, Aster, and Hassleberry nodded their heads in agreement while Atticus just laughed a bit. "I thought the same thing when I first came here. Hey, there's Mr. Truesdale!" He said as he spotted Isamu walking towards them.
They other were surprised by how much he looks like Syrus.
"Hey Attticus! Haven't seen you in a while." Isamu said as he shook hands with the brunette.
"It's great to see you again Mr. Truesdale."
Isamu then noticed the others. "I'm guessing these are Zane and Syrus' other friends from Duel Academy. Hey I'm Isamu Truesdale." He introduced himself to the other Duel Academy students.
"Nice to meet ya! I'm Jaden Yuki!"
"Tyranno Hassleberry! But please call me by my last name."
"The name's Chazz Princeton!"
"I'm Alexis, Atticus' younger sister."
"I'm Aster Phoenix."
Isamu shook hands with each one of them as they introduced themselves. He was a bit hesitant when he reached Aster, but he still shook hands with the silver haired boy.
"Where are Zane and Syrus? They said they wanted to hang out with us today." Jaden said. "Of course Aster came with us because he wanted to apologize to Zane." Chazz put in.
"There in the barn, they just got back from a ride. So they're tending to Loba and Senshi." He pointed to the barn in the backyard. "Thanks." The Duel Academy students then went towards said barn.
When they got there the barn doors were open, so they went in. As they did, they saw that the Truesdale brothers were brushing the manes of two different horses.
Syrus was bushing the mane of a pure white Lipizzaner with a wavy silver mane and tail with white highlight, blue-grey eyes, and a scarred wolf bite on the left shoulder. The horse had a silver bridle with a silver howling wolf head symbol on it, a dark grey under-blanket, a light grey saddle pad, a silver saddle and girth, and dull gold stirrups.
Syrus himself wore a blue shirt with a white cloud and a ninja star on the front, dark grey pants, and brown lace-up boots. Over his shirt is a yellow jacket with red trim.
Zane was brushing the mane of a black Friesian with a white blaze and stocking on all four legs, a midnight black mane and tail with turquoise highlight, and navy blue eyes. The horse had on a turquoise bridle with a dark and light turquoise yin&yang symbol, a teal under-blanket, a mint blue saddle pad, a turquoise saddle and girth, and silver stirrups.
Zane was dressed in a white shirt and black jeans. He also had on a blue jacket with white trim.
The horses were the first ones to see the Duel Academy students
*whiny*
"What is it girl?" Syrus asked the Lipizzaner while petting her neck.
She then pointed her muzzle towards Jaden and the others. Syrus looked towards the barn door and saw them.
"Jaden!" Syrus said as he saw his best friend as he and the others walked up to the two brothers.
"It's good to see ya Sy." Jaden said as the two best friends high-fived each other.
"Nice Lipizzaner." Aster said as looked the mare over. "Thanks Aster. I take good care of Loba."
Syrus petted Loba's neck again.
"You mean she's your horse Sy?" Alexis asked him. He just nodded his head yes.
Chazz then went to Zane as he took the bridle off the Friesian. "I guess this Friesian is yours?"
Zane nodded his head.
"This is Senshi. The best cross country horse around." He said as he patted Senshi.
The two brothers got the riding gear off their horses, put Loba and Senshi in their stalls, and put the gear away. When they were done everyone was sitting at a picnic table, Callista brought them snacks and drinks. The two brothers were fidgeting a bit. No one noticed this but Hassleberry. "What's going on you two? You've been fidgeting ever since you sat down. So tell us what's going on."
Everyone started to stare at the two brothers. Zane and Syrus look at each other then towards their friends. 'It's now or never.' Zane thought before he spoke out loud. "Well, our parents got that promotion." He said.
"You mean the one they've been wanting since Syrus' first year in middle school?" Atticus asked him. Zane just nodded his head.
Aster looked at the two brothers. "Is there something else? I mean, why else would you two be fidgeting."
"He has a point." Jaden said.
Syrus was looking down at his lap, twiddling his thumbs. "Well, their promotion is causing us to move."
"Really? Where to?" Hassleberry asked them. The others were also waiting for them to answer. The two brothers looked at each other again before replying. "To America." They said at the same time. Their friends stared at them in disbelief. "What? Syrus won't be coming back to Duel Academy?" Ojama Yellow said as he appeared, hovering over the group. "But he was going to be promoted to Obelisk Blue this year." Ojama Green said, appearing on his younger brother's right. "Yeah. And it won't be the same without him. How else will we know there's danger?" Ojama Black as he appeared on his brothers' left.
Winged Kuriboh then appeared beside Ojama Black and he looked angry.
*Coo*
"Winged Kuriboh is right Black! Syrus is our friend! And you're thinking of Chumley," Yellow said.
"What they said! Even if he can't see us, he's our friend!" Green said.
Jaden and Chazz heard the three ganging up on Ojama Black. Jaden was glad that Syrus had some Duel Monster spirit friends, even if he couldn't see them yet. 'I wonder what kind of Duel Monster spirit will be his spirit partner.' He thought. "When are you leaving?" He asked them.
"Next week." Zane answered. "We almost have everything packed."
Jaden and the others looked at the two brothers with wide eyes. "Why did you wait so long to tell us?" Atticus asked them. "Our parents wanted us to focus on getting everything packed as well as time for us to figure out how to tell you." Syrus explained. "But they said we can hang out all day a week before the move. I guess that day is today."
"Then why not a tour of your house to start things off!?"
The group laughed at Jaden's enthusiasm. Always leave it to him to cheer people up. "Let's clean up first." Zane said.
After a few minutes of cleaning up the table, Zane and Syrus showed the group around the house. Almost everything the Truesdales owned were packed in boxes. When they got Syrus' room, they saw it had the least amount of boxes.
They weren't surprised to see some Duel Monsters merch, but they were surprised to see a few wolf and horse themed decor in the room. "Mainly helped Mom, Dad, and Zane packed before packing my own stuff." Syrus explained. Aster then spotted a picture a the dresser.
He went over and picked it up. It was a picture of a younger Zane and Syrus, along with a dark skin girl around Syrus' age with long brown hair and brown eyes, wearing a plain white turtleneck. "Who's this?" He asked them.
"That's our cousin Alma. Our new house is in her neighborhood."
Aster handed Syrus the framed picture.
"So you guys are Japanese Americans?" Alexis asked them.
"Actually Lex, the two of us are Japanese Mexicans."
"Sam hill! So that means you two can speak and understand Spanish."
"Si." Syrus said.
"Syrus likes speaking in Spanish more than me." Zane explained to them.
After that, everyone spent the day playing Duel Monsters, talking to each other, and the two brothers showing their friends some horse riding tricks. The day was coming to an end and the other had to leave.
"We'll try our best to come see you guys before you leave." Jaden said.
As soon as it was night time Syrus went to his room to continue packing. After a half hour of packing Syrus found a card hidden under his desk. "I didn't know that card was there." He flipped the card to see what it was.
He saw that it was a level three Effect monster called Mage Wolf. Mage Wolf was a blue eyed black wolf with white ears, paws, tail tip, and under fur, blue stripes on his tail, legs, and forehead, and around his neck was a blue crystal pendant. Something about the card seemed familiar to Syrus for some reason.
Syrus then smiled at the card. "I think I'll add you to my deck." He mentally laughed at himself.
He then placed Mage Wolf on the top of his deck and then shuffled it.
He then looked over at the clock and saw it was past nine. "*yawn*I guess it's time for bed."
Syrus then changed into his PJs and then got into bed. As he started to fall asleep, he could have sworn he felt something small lay down beside him.
