Wiretapping and Omissions
Soon Kitten took the stand smiling acting like her usual happy self and Hunter then said "Witness, your name, please."
"Kitten Walker!" Kitten said smiling then give a wink with a cute face adding "At your service!"
The audience watching all cheer and woot about that immediately falling for the cute girl. Maccadam bangs his gavel and said "Order! An introduction should not require any reaction from the crowd! The witness will refrain from wanton winking!"
"Aww… Yes, Your Honor." Kitten said sadly
'This is not good…' J thought sweating bullets virtually. 'She's already captured the heart of every man in this courtroom!'
"Tell us, where were you on the night of September 5, when the murder occurred?" Hunter asked Kitten.
"Um… gee… I was, like, in my hotel room? Tee hee." Kitten said thinking. "I checked in right after lunch."
"And this hotel is directly across from the Yuki & Co. Law Offices?" Hunter asked.
"Mmm… that's right, big boy." Kitten said smiling.
"Please testify to the court about what you saw." Maccadam said to Kitten.
Kitten nods and gave her Witness's Account saying "It was, like, 9:00 at night, I looked out the window, you know! And then, ooh! I saw a man with brown spikey hair being attacked! The one attacking him was the mousey boy sitting in the defendant's chair! Then the man, like, dodged to one side and ran away! But that boy, he caught up to him and… and… He hit him!"
"Then the man with spikey hair…He kinda… slumped." Kitten said finishing then she cutely winks again and said "The end. That's all I saw. Every little bitsy witsy!"
"Hmmm…" Maccadam lets our processing this.
"Well, Your Honor?" Hunter asked smirking.
"I see. It is a remarkably solid testimony." Maccadam said nodding "I don't see a need to trouble the witness any…"
"W-wait, Your Honor!" J said stopping that.
"Yes, Miss J?" Maccadam asked.
"What about my cross-examination?!" J asked firmly.
"I thought the witness's testimony just now was quite… firm." Maccadam said confused "Didn't you?"
"Miss. J…. I understand you were Mr. Terra Yuki's understudy, were you not?" Hunter said to her. "You must know his techniques well. His cowardly way of finding tiny faults in perfectly good testimonies…"
"H-hey! How dare you!" J said glaring.
"Well, Miss. J? Will you cross-examine the witness?" Maccadam asked her.
"I'll gladly proceed with the cross-examination." J said nodding. 'If only because I have a feeling Hunter doesn't want me to! She has to have some weakness!'
"Very well, you may begin your cross-examination!" Maccadam said nodding.
J checks the recording of the testimony and presses the first statement saying "Hold it! Why did you do that?"
"Huh? 'Why'? Like, why what?" Kitten asked confused.
"Why did you look out the window? Were you expecting to see something?" J asked her.
"Oh, well, um… gee!" Kitten said thinking.
'What? That's it? She can't get out of this question that easily!' J thinks surprised.
"I sort to, you know." She then does her cute wink again and added "I had a feeling!"
'Well, I have a feeling she's trying to avoid the question! Maybe I should press a little harder on this one? Let's see how far I can run with this…' J thought annoyed and goes for it saying "Surely, you must have had a reason to look out your window at that time of night!"
"I… oooh!" Kitten said getting nervous.
"Objection!" Hunter called out and said "Miss. J! I will not have you badgering my witness!"
"B-badgering?" J said shocked.
"You insist on needling her with these trivial questions." Hunter told her and slams his hand on his desk "I really don't think it should be allowed."
"Yeah, yeah, stop her! Poor girl" The audience all said in unison agreeing with Hunter.
Maccadam bangs his gavel and said "Order! Miss. J, you have been warned."
'Poor girl?! What about poor me?!' J thought feeling she was alone in this battle. She goes back to the testimony and press the third statement saying while slamming her hands on the desk "Hold it! How do you know he was the defendant?"
"Huh? Well… you know! H-he had a boyish physique. Women know these things." Kitten said thinking. "Look… I-I just know, okay?"
"There was only one person at the scene of the crime with a short, boyish figure." Hunter states and grins "The testimony is bulletproof, Your Honor."
'He's right…but….' J thinks and said pointing "Hold on a minute! That testimony stinks!"
"W-what?!" Kitten said shocked.
"Miss Walker, I'm willing to bet that…. You're lying!" J states "Are you telling the truth? Did you really see the defendant?!"
"Urp!" Kitten winces at that.
The audience murmur at this making Maccadam bang the gavel and said to J "Miss. J! What's the meaning of this?"
"Yes, what is the meaning!" Kitten said acting upset "Somebody tell me because I'm clueless! About this, I mean!"
"Okay…" J said nodding "If you really witnessed my client, Jaden Yuki…You would have noticed his clothes before notcing his physique! Namely his gauntlets and pendent!" Kitten eyes widen in shock.
J then continues "No one wears stuff like that on a daily basis! Except him! And I have no knowledge on fashion but his hair looks far from an average style of hair to me! However, the witness's testimony mentions neither of these things!" She slaps her hands on the desk "The testimony is bogus!"
"But…but!" Kitten said getting or acting like she's getting upset.
"Still, we don't know if he was dressed that way the night of the murder…" Maccadam points out.
"He was, Your Honor!" J told him. "I saw him. And so did Detective N!" She slams her hands again "What do you say to that, Miss. Walker?"
"Rowr! What are you trying to say, you mean lawyer!" Kitten said getting that same annoyed look on her face but calms down a bit "I-I saw what I saw. I… just didn't think all the trifling little details were necessary, darling."
"Miss Walker. The court would like to remind you to please omit nothing in your testimony." Maccadam told her.
Kitten giggles and does her cute wink again while saying "I'm sorry, Your Honor. I'll be a good girl. I promise."
"Your testimony again, if you would." Maccadam told her.
'Damn, I almost I had her!' J thinks annoyed.
Kitten then give her Witness's Account testimony saying "I did see everything! I did! The victim—the man—dodged the fist attack and ran off to the right. Then the boy in the goth looking gauntlets ran after him…"
"And he hit him with that weapon! I saw it! I did!" Kitten said finishing up "That…. That clock! Um… the kinda statue-y clock? 'The Thinker,' I think? Well? Does the accuracy of my report not startle you? Tee hee!"
"I… see." Maccadam said thinking "I only wish you had been so detailed from the beginning. Please begin the cross-examination."
J decides to press the second statement saying "Hold it! Is that 'right' as in your right, as you looked from the hotel?"
"Um… which hand do I hold my knife in again…?" Kitten said thinking "Right! It was my right hand! Right?"
"Satisfied, Miss. J? Please continue." Hunter said nodding.
"Hold it!" J said pressing the final statement and said "A… clock?" She thinks 'Didn't this come up in another testimony recently…?'
"W-well? Don't look so sour, Miss. Lawyer. You can't win them all." Kitten said to her.
'No… but I have a feeling I'm on to something now!' J said thinking and gets the Statue in the Court Record and presents it saying "Objection! Miss Walker. What you said just now was quite… revealing."
"Revealing? Oooh, you'd like that, wouldn't you. Naughty Miss. Lawyer…" Kitten said smiling.
J brings up The Thinker and said "You just said that this statue of 'The Thinker' was a clock. But there's no way of knowing that just by looking at it!"
Urp!" Kitten said eyes widen in shock.
"Another person in much the same position as you recently called this a 'clock,' too…" J said and smirks adding "And he was found guilty… of murder!"
The audience murmur at this, some who were there for that trial agreed with what J said. Maccadam bangs his gavel and said "Order! Order!"
"Miss Walker. Can you explain how you know this was a clock?" J said pointing at Kitten.
"Oooh… urp!" Kitten said at that.
"Objection!" Hunter said and explained "The witness saw the murder with her own eyes! That's all that's important here!" He slams a hand on his desk "The defence is trying to confuse the issue with trivial concerns!"
"Yes… yes, of course." Maccadam said nodding "You will withdraw your question, Miss. J."
"Objection!" J said and explained "But questions are all I have, Your Honor! And as you may recall, I've caught murderers with these questions before!" She then think 'Well, only once…'
Maccadam thinks on it then bangs his gavel and said "Objection sustained. You may continue to question the witness."
'Whew, that was close' J thinks sighing in relief 'If he stopped me there, the trial would be over!'
"Huh? What? So… what happens no?" Kitten asked confused.
"What happens now is you answer my question!" J told him firmly "How did you know it was a clock?"
"What…! Th-that's…Because…. I heard it?" Kitten said thinking on it. She smiles nodding "Yes! I heard it say the time!"
J slams her hands down and asked "So, you've been to the law offices of Yuki & Co.!"
"N-n-no! Hey, I didn't say that! Why would I go there!" Kitten said to that. "I heard it from my hotel room. Hee hee!"
"The law offices of Yuki & Co., where the murder took place, is very close to the hotel." Hunter explained. "She could easily have heard the clock!"
"Hmmm. Well, Miss. J? Are you satisfied?" Maccadam asked the drone girl.
"No, Your Honor!" J said shaking her head and thinks 'I can't give up now!' She then said "I'm not satisfied because…Your Honor, members of the court…It is inconceivable that the clock in question rang! That clock is missing its clockwork!"
The members of the court murmur at that and Maccadam bangs his gavel and asked shocked "H-how could you possibly…?"
"Just take a look…Right now!" J told him.
A Purge Trooper brings The Thinker to Maccadam who takes it and examines it "Oh!"
"See anything interesting, Your Honor?" J asked him.
"It is as the defense says!" Maccadam said nodding and holds it up "This clock is missing its clockwork! It's quite empty!" The members of the court murmur in shock and he bangs his gavel and said "Miss. J! Would you care to explain to the court the meaning of this?"
"It is as you can see." J said grinning "The 'clock' was empty. It couldn't have rung!" She looks over a nervous looking Kitten "Therefore, this witness...is a big, fat liar!"
"F-Fat?!" Kitten said in shock.
"Well, Miss. Walker?" J asked pointing at her.
"Tsk tsk." Hunter said tuttering not at all worried at this which confuses J. He then said smirking "Quite a show you've put on for us, Miss. J.
'He knew the clock was empty! Somehow… he knew!' J thinks on it.
"I'm afraid you've forgotten one thing however." Hunter told her. "Indeed, the clock is empty. As you say… it can't ring. However, we must ask: when was the clockwork removed?" He grins "If it was after the witness heard the clock, then there is no contradiction!"
Maccadam's optics widen at that and said "Hmm! That's true. That is a possibility. The clock might have been emptied after she heard it."
"And that is exactly what happened, Your Honor!" Hunter said nodding.
"Well, Miss. J?" Maccadam said looking at the drone girl "Can you prove when the clockwork was removed?"
Hunter chuckles and shrugs "Ho hoh! Impossible, of course…"
"I have proof." J said grinning.
"W-what?!" Hunter said taken aback at that.
"Wasn't it you who told me 'Proof is everything'?" J asked him "Well, I was listening. And now I'll show you the 'proof' you like so much! The evidence that proves when the clockwork was removed is..." She then yells "Take that!" while pulling out Jaden's Cell Phone "Take a look at this!"
"Hmmmm. That's a very epic looking cell phone" Maccadam said smiling
"Ooh hoo! You have a boyish phone!" Kitten said giggling.
"W-wait! Wait! This isn't my phone!" J said rubbing her head "Listen! This is the defendant's cell phone, and it contains a recording…" She slams her hands down "A recording of a conversation she had with the victim on the day of the murder!"
The members of the court chatter about it and Maccadam bangs his gavel "Order! Order!"
"The defendant's cell phone?!" Hunter said in anger clenching his fists on the desk "Th-this wasn't brought to my attention!"
"Perhaps Detective N overlooked it?" J suggested grinning at finally getting headway in this.
Hunter grumbles and whispered to himself but loud enough for J to hear "The good detective better remember he's up for evaluation soon…"
'I got to say, I'm starting to feel bad for the goofball.' J thinks, she then says "Let's hear the conversation." She then plays the recording.
"So, you just want me to hold on to 'The Thinker' for you, then?" the recording of Jaden said.
"If you could." the recording of Terra said. "Ah, I should probably tell you, the clock isn't talking right now."
"Huh? It's not working? That's lame!" the recording of Jaden said.
"I had to take the clockwork out. Sorry." The recording of Terra explained.
"September 5, 9:27 AM" The automated voice on the phone said before beeping ending.
"Your Honor, I think this makes it clear the clockwork was already gone by the time this was recorded, which was well before the witness even arrived at her hotel!" J said determined.
"Muh… muh… muh?!" Kitten said looking annoyed and her eye twitching.
"Well, Miss Walker? Would you care to explain this to the court?" J asked her and points at her "Just how did you know that weapon was a clock?!"
Kitten twitches more and said "W-well…! Well, isn't it o-obvious? I saw that clock before!" She said smiling and thinks "Um… what store was that again? I-I go to so many! Oops! I forgot!" She said and does the usual cute wink.
"So, the witness had seen it before. That would make sense." Maccadam said thinking. "Does the defense have any objections, Miss. J?"
J knew this was a lie and said "The witness claims she had 'seen it before.' But this directly contradicts a piece of evidence already submitted to this court!"
"Well then, let's see it." Maccadam said "Please produce this evidence that will prove the witness had not seen the clock before." J nods and goes to the Court Record.
"Take that!" J said as she smiles saying as she presents The Thinker "It's simple. This clock was never in any store, ever!"
"W-whaat?!" Kitten said in shock.
J grins and said "A friend of mine made that clock. Only two exist in this world. And the one that isn't here is in police trooper custody!"
"I-Impossible!" Kitten said in twitching shock "Everything is sold in stores!"
"Miss Walker, I think it's high time you went shopping for a better excuse." J said grinning.
"Mmph…." Kitten said shuddering
"Oh? Excuses not on sale today?" J said tauntingly.
"Ooh? Oh ho, ho. Mmmmmrrrrph. Ooooooooorrrrrr ggggghhhhhhhh… hhh!" Kitten roars out as her personality does a complete 180 as she looks less cutesy and more angry and rage filled. She glares at J "What's it to you, pigtailed scrape-heap?! That stupid clock doesn't matter, okay?! He did it! And he should die for it! Die!"
The members of the court all murmur in shock at this and Maccadam bangs his gavel but was also shocked "W-w-whoa! Let's not get ahead of ourselves. T-this is a court of law, and the witness will remain calm!"
"Hrrrgh…. Hrrrh… Hrr… heh. Oh?" Kitten said as she puts on the sweet act but it was more forced then before as she has a hard time maintaining it. "Oh! Oh? Oh hoh ho! S-silly me!" She grunts. "Did I, um, like… lose it? I guess I did. Tee hee!" She goes her cute wink again.
'S-scary…' J thinks sweating.
"Miss Walker, let me ask." Maccadam said to her. "Tell me, how did you know the weapon was a clock?" He sees Kitten angrily look at J "Hmm… oh dear. Does the defence have an opinion on this… behavior?"
'Okay, this is it!' J thinks "Yes, Your Honor. Allow me to explain how I see the truth of the matter. Miss Kitten Walker, you knew the weapon was a clock because…The witness had never held the clock in her hand! However, she had heard that it was a clock!"
"She 'heard'…?" Maccadam said confused.
"That is correct, Your Honor." J said nodding. "There is no other way she could have known 'The Thinker' was a clock!" She slams her hands down "And I can show you the proof!"
"Well, this is interesting." Maccadam said thinking "Let's see it, then. Show me evidence proving that the witness had 'heard' the murder weapon was a clock."
"Take that!" J said as she presents from the Court Record the Wiretap and said smiling "Have a look at this."
"Ah! Oooh! Th-that?! Eh heh…" Kitten said in shocking and nervesness at seeing it.
"I found this in Miss Walker's room." J said smiling.
The crowd murmur in shock at this and Maccadam bang his gavel and said "Miss. J! Please explain to the cour what this is!"
"Miss Kitten Walker? You were tapping the victim, Mr. Terra Yuki's phone, were you not?" J said pointing at the witness.
"Oooh. Oooh." Kitten said in anger.
"Objection!" Hunter said and said firmly "Your Honor, this is irrelevant!"
"I'm not entirely sure that it is. Objection overruled." Maccadam said firmly "It troubles me that our witness was in possession of a wiretap."
"This is outrageous!" Hunter said annoyed "Does the defence truly claim that the witness was tapping his phone?"
"Absolutely!" J said nodding.
"Even if that was the case, which it's not, you still have to prove one thing!" Hunter told her. "Did the victim ever say that the weapon was a clock on the phone?" He slams his gloved hand on the his desk "Can you prove that? I THINK NOT!"
"Oh yeah? I THINK I CAN! It's simple!" J said staring firmly at him.
"WHAAAT?!" Hunter said to that.
J slams her hands down and said "Here's my proof. The proof that the victim said, on the phone, that the weapon was a clock is…." She then presents Jaden's phone again "I present the defendant's cell phone."
"Yes, we've seen that." Maccadam said nodding.
"Listen once more to the conversation between the defendant and the victim." J said and plays the recording again.
"Terra! What's up? You haven't called in a while." the recording of Jaden said.
"Well, actually there's something I want you to hold on to for me." the recording of Terra said.
"Again? What's it this time?" the recording of Jaden asked.
"It's… a clock." The recording of Terra said. "It's made to look like that statue, 'The Thinker.' And it tells you the time!" The recording ends.
J looks firmly at Kitten and said "Miss Kitten Walker! You used a wiretap to listen to this conversation! That's how you knew 'The Thinker' was a clock!" She slams her hands down "Am I wrong?!"
"I… I…" Kitten hesitates trying to thinking
"Objection!" Hunter yells out and said slamming hand down "Your Honor, this is ridiculous!"
"Your Honor, look at the witness's face! Does she seem amused to you?" J said pointing to the twitching Kitten. "The defense demands an answer.
"La… laaa…. Lrrrrrgf!" Kitten lets out in anger.
"Witness, answer the question. Did you tap his phone?" Maccadam asked. Kitten remains quiet "Miss Walker!"
"Shut up, all of you! What give you the right to talk to ME like that! You… you LAWYER!" Kitten lets out in anger. Everyone was stunned silent at this. She then said in fake sadness "I-it's no fair! All of you g-ganging up on me like that…Oh, so I'm the bad girl, is that it? Is that it?! Uh…uh…waaaaa"
'That did it! The court's seen the real Miss Kitten Walker now!' J thought 'Now to deal the final blow!' She then said "Miss Walker!"
"What is it you little scraplet! Talk to me in that tone of voice will you?!" Kitten said in anger.
"You killed him, didn't you!" J states.
The audience murmur at this and Maccadam bangs his gavel saying "Order! There will be order!"
"What? How can you possibly say that?! Are you mad?" Kitten said to that. "A-all I was a little wiretapping…Oops!" She gulps realizing what she admitted.
"So you admit you tapped his phone!" J said smirking.
"Heh… heh… hrrah!" Kitten said twitching "B-but wait! I didn't do ANYTHING bad like murder! I'm a good girl!"
"Really?" J asked not buying it "Can you prove it?!" she thinks 'No way can she prove it!'
"You think you're so smart, Miss. Lawyer…But I can prove it! And I will!" Kitten said firmly.
"You can't be serious! No way!" J said sweating at that.
"Way, I say! Way! Oh, and I assure you I'm serious, Miss. Lawyer!" Kitten said smirking. "Hmph!" She calms a bit and begins to explain "Okay? So, the killing happened around 9:00 at night? Why, that's just when I was getting room service from that sweet servant droid bellboy…"
"R-room service?!" J said worried.
"Ice coffee, I believe it was?" Kitten said to that, then thinks "Ice coffee? You know? Like normal coffee, but COLD. If you don't drink it quick, the ice melts and then you have… regular cold coffee."
"I-ice coffee…?!" J said more worried.
"Think I'm making this up? Ask the servant droid!" Kitten said winking cutely again.
"Ergo, the witness was not on the scene at the time of the murder!" Hunter said smiling and bowing.
J gasps in shock at that and the members of the court chatter. Maccadam bangs his gavel and said "So, where does that leave us...?"
"It is my great displeasure to inform you…That the witness appears to have been tapping the victim's telephone." Hunter said sighing but slams his hand down and said "However! That is a separate crime, with no bearing on the current case whatsoever! Her testimony stands! She saw the defendant, Jaden Yuki, commit murder!"
'No! They're going to let her just walk away! There's no way I can win this unless I tie Miss Walker to the murder somehow…' J thinks.
"Well does the defence have anything to say?" Maccadam asked her..
"Um, well…" J said and thinks 'Come on, think of something!' She then gets an idea and said "The defence would like to call the hotel servant droid bellboy as a witness! There's something suspicious here, and I'm going to get to the bottom of it!"
"I think you've sunken quite low enough already." Kitten said to J.
"Objection!" Hunter called out "I object to call the bellboy!"
"W-why? What's your reason?" J asked him.
"Because I hold that the wiretapping had nothing to do with the killing!" Hunter said smugly. J was surprised but Hunter then said "However…If you agree to one condition, I'll consent to calling this witness."
"Condition…?" J asked.
"If Miss Kitten Walker's alibi is not called into question after you examine the servant droid…then you will recognize that Miss Kitten Walker was not the killer, thus she is innocent!" Hunter said smiling. "And thereby, you must also accept the verdict of 'guilty' for Mr. Jaden Yuki! That is my condition."
'What…?!' J thinks on that worried 'I'd better find something suspicious in that servant droid's testimony…Otherwise Jaden will be declared 'guilty' on the spot! Alright! I've got nothing to lose! Except for…well, everything!' She composes and said "Understood. I accept your condition."
"Hmph." Hunter said and smirks shrugging "Fool…You fell right into my trap!"
'Uh oh!' J thought getting worried "Uh….um wait…"
Just then Maccadam bangs the gavel and said "Very well! The court calls the hotel Servant Droid bellboy to the stand!"
A while later everything was ready as Hunter said "I believe we're ready for the witness to testify. This servant droid does look like a bellboy."
Indeed the Servant Droid stood on the stand still holding a tea tray who smiles and said "Yes, sir. I received your summons in the middle of work, sir. I'm happy to be of service."
"That tea set looks rather heavy, so without further ado, the witness may begin his testimony." Maccadam said nodding.
"Very good, sir!" Servant Droid said nodding and begins Miss Walker's Room Service testimony saying "I am the head bellboy at the fine Tipton Hotel, in business for four generations! I believe I received a call after 8:00 in the evening from our guest, Miss Walker."
"She asked for an ice coffee to be brought to her at 9:00, on the dor, sir." He continued "I brought it to her at precisely the requested time, of course. And I delivered the ice coffee to our guest Miss Walker, herself."
"I see." Maccadam said nodding "The defense may begin its cross-examinaion."
"R-right! I'm ready." J said nodding and worryingly thought 'I hope…This is it…If I can't prove Miss Walker was involved with the murder now…Jaden will be finished!' She checks and knowing the droid has no reason to lie as she saw no contradictions she decided to press all statements
"Hold it!" J said starting with the first one "What exactly is it you do at the hotel?"
"Why, anything required of me, sir." The Servant droid said "I check in guests; I check out guests. I clean rooms, I make beds. I even deliver room service, sir. I checked Miss Walker in personally."
"Are you always so… so prim?" J asked.
"Miss. J." Maccadam said to that "You will refrain from asking frivolous questions…"
J nods and presses the next statement "Hold it! Are you sure it was Miss Walker on the phone?"
"Absolutely, sir." The Servant droid said nodding.
"H-how can you be so certain?!" J asked confused.
"I checked Miss Walker in personally, sir." The Servant droid said "Not only did I see her in all her stunning radiance but I also heard her voice. And then I saw THEM, and I…" He then blushes despite having no blood "Ahem. Er…. Ahem!" He composes "The point being I remembered her quite well, sir."
"Yes, what then?" Maccadam said.
"Hold it!" J said pressing the next statement "9:00 'on the dot,' you say?"
"Yes. I confirmed that detail several times." The Servant droid said "She was watching a program on the TV and wished to drink after she finished, sir."
'9:00… the time of the murder!' J thinks and preses the next statement "Hold it! 'Precisely' 9:00, then?"
"Precisely, exactly, and most defiantly, sir, 9:00 PM" Servant Droid said nodding.
"How can you be so sure?!" J asked sweating bullets
"Miss Walker was quite insistent that it be brought then." Servant droid explained "'Oh, bellboy servant droid? Tee hee! I'd like, like, ice coffee at exactly 9:00!' Something like that, sir. Therefore, I knocked on her door at the crack of 9:00, sir."
'Why would she be so particular about the time?' J thought on it she then presses the last statement "Hold it! You are sure it was Miss Kitten Walker herself?"
"Ab-SO-lutely, sir." Servant Droid said nodding.
"'Ab-SO-lutely'…?" J asked.
"Yes sir. As in, 'so very absolutely,' sir. It's an endearing mannerism of mine." Servant Droid said.
"How come you're so very certain?!" J asked him.
The Servant Droid blushed again and said "Well, when I brought the room service, sir…S-she…the guest, sir, favoured me w-with a, um, an 'embrasser,' sir."
J was sweating on that said "'Embrasser'?! Is that French for 'embrace'?"
"It's French for 'kiss,' sir. But not a French kiss, sir! More of a peck on the cheek." Servant Droid admits embarrassed.
"Wh-why would she have done that…?" J said still sweating.
"I believe, perhaps, she was momentarily swayed my prim demeanour, sir." The Servant Droid admits. "It was a moment I shall never, ever forget, sir."
'Sounds pretty fishy to me…' J thinks 'I think our Miss Walker was up to something and wanted the bellboy droid to remember her!' She then said, "It's no good!" She thinks 'There's nothing there! Is… is that it?!'
Hunter shrugs and said "Tsk tsk. Finally, you understand. This servant droid bellboy has absolutely no reason to lie! Now…If you have any decency, you will end this rather tedious cross-examination here!"
"Hmmm. It was a bit tedious." Maccadam said nodding. "The witness may leave the stand."
'I can't let this happen… can I?' J thinks and knew she couldn't and slams her hands down "W-wait! Please wait!"
"Yes? Does the defence have something to add?" Maccadam asked.
"One last question… let me ask one last question!" J begged desperate
"Objection!" Hunter said to that "Your Honor, I must object. This charade of justice has gone on long enough!"
"Now, now, Mr. Deamonne." Maccadam said and looks to J "Alright Miss. J. I'll give you one more question, that's all."
'Okay. This is really it, now. This is my last chance!' J thinks then asked "T-tell me about check-in! Tell me about when you checked-in Miss Walker."
"Oh, alright. Very well, sir." Servant Droid said nodding. "My first thought was that she was a beautiful, beautiful person. She's just my type of organic girl, so it was a disappointment, really."
"I see…" J said to that but then registered the last bit and asked, "Excuse me… what exactly was a 'disappointment'?"
"Well, I am not without charm, sir, but even I'd have a little chance with lover there." The Servant Droid said.
J's LED eyes widen and thought 'What did he say?!' She slams her hands down and asked "What did you say?!"
"Ah! Oh… er… rather, quite!" Servant Droid said.
"Servant Droid! Tell us the truth now…" J said and glares determined asking "Did Miss Walker check in with another person?"
"Objection!" Hunter said but said concerned "I object! That was… objectionable!"
Maccadam shakes his head and said "Objection overruled. The witness will answer the question."
"Er… yes, I see." Servant Droid said to that embarrassed.
"Why did you not mention this in your testimony?!" J asked him.
"W-well sir, you er… you didn't ask!" Servant Droid said.
'Nice try!' J thought and slams her hand down "That's the sort of thing you're normally supposed to mention!"
"Ah, yes, quite. Indeed…" The droid said nodding "It was the, er, good barrister there, Mr. Deamonne, who…" J's LED eyes widen at that surprising "He asked me not to mention it if I wasn't specifically asked, sir."
"Ah!" Hunter grunts and hunches over at being exposed at that. "Y-you fool!"
"I've done it…I've won!" J said in her mental world then said to the Servant droid "Miss Kitten Walker checked into a twin room… wait a man. Correct?"
"Yes, sir." Servant Droid said.
"Then, when you brought them room service, you didn't see that man in the room…?"
"That's right, sir." The Servant Droid said nodding.
"Hmm…." Maccadam thinks
"Your Honor!" J said to him "We have just learned of another person involved who may have been the murderer! In light of this new fact, I hold that it's impossible to judge the defendant. Wouldn't you agree, Mr. Deamonne?"
"And who, Miss. J! Who is this 'other person'!" Hunter asked her.
"Simple, it was...The man who checked in with Miss Walker!" J told him. Hunter winces at that hunching over in anger at that "Your Honor! As has been previously revealed, Miss Kitten Walker was tapping the victim's phone. Yet Miss Walker herself has an alibi at the time of the murder. However, that does not clear the man that was with her! The Servant Droid saw no one else in the room at the time of the murder!"
"M-my, what a convenient little setup… but it's too late…" Hunter said gritting his teeth in annoyance that his perfect case seems to have fallen apart.
"Too late?" J asked confused. "I suppose you'd like it if it was too late, wouldn't you…" She slams her hands down and points at him "After all, it was you who hid the presence of the other man from this court!"
"Oof!" Hunter winces at that taking another 'hit', He glares at her and said "Upstart… amateur…! T-these accusations are… ludicrous!"
"Enough!" Maccadam said banging his gavel to end this and said "The court acknowledges the defence's argument. I expect the prosecution and defence to look into this matter fully! Am I understood?"
"Yes… Yes, Your Honor." Hunter pants as one of the Purge Troopers pats his back.
"That is all today for the trial of Jaden Yuki. Court is adjourned!" Maccadam said and slams his gavel ending the trial for the day.
September 7, 2:24 PM, District Court Defendant Lobby No. 1
J was resting in the lobby drinking some oil trembling as that was intense and Jaden smiles at him happily as he sat next to her. He said "Miss. J! You were amazing in there!"
"R-really?" J asked him
Jaden nods and said, "I think I might be your newest fan!"
"Oh, I was just 'doing my job' you know… heh heh." J said to that
"Then again, that other attorney was pretty cool, too…" Jaden said thinking.
"Huh?" J said.
"That face of his! With his eyes wide, and trembling lips! It sent shivers up my spine!" Jaden said smiling
"Hmmm… if you say so." J said shrugging.
"So, what happens with me?" Jaden asked her. "Do I get to go home now?"
"Um, well…" J said and sips her oil and said "No, I don't think so. Not yet."
"Oh… I see." Jaden said looking down.
"But I got a great least in today's trial!" J said to reassure him.
"A 'lead'?" Jaden asked.
"That man with Miss Walker! He's the key!" J explained to him.
"Oh! I get it." Jaden said nodding. He then gets mad asking "What happened to Miss Walker after that, anyway?"
"I heard the Purge Troopers arrested her." J said surprising Jaden "I guess she's learning her charms won't work everywhere. She's probably handed to the police troopers to go to the detention centre now, I may have to go down there later." She wasn't looking forward to that "Anyway. This case is far from closed."
"Yes ma'am!" Jaden said nodding.
"I'm going to find out more about this man." J told him.
"Do you think he was the one who…?" Jaden asked.
"Maybe so." J said Jaden looks down sadly.
"Bro…" Jaden said sadly.
"Don't worry, I'll find him by tomorrow. I promise." J reassured him.
"I'm counting on you!" Jaden said to her.
As they go separate way J in her mental world said "I asked for a full record of Kitten Walker's testimony. I thought it might come in handy during the trial tomorrow. But now that I have it, I'm not so sure."
"Most of her testimony was all lies…" J said thinking "In fact, there's only one part that hasn't been stricken from the record." It was the part about which direction the victim dodged when they ran from the attacker. She adds Walker Testimony to her record.
"I don't know how much good this will do me at all, now." J said thinking writing in the mental diary "Anyway, time to spead my wings and do some investigating! Jaden doesn't belong in that detention centre, and it's up to me to set him free!"
She heads out of the courthouse.
Well J earned an extra day but she has to act fast and find out more about this mysterious man who was with Kitten.
