Chapter Eight
Summary
:
- Siblings reunite
- They hunt the demon they've been searching for
- Trouble starts yet again
It had been a few days since Lillian last saw the man in the cage. Her sleeps were dreamless for whatever reason. It worried her tremendously. Not only because it was revealed that she was a nephilim, but also because she feared he never wanted to see her again. She has never gone this long without speaking to him.
She had been looking for a new case, ignoring her fathers previous protest, when she got a call. Looking at the called ID that read 'Sammy' Lillian thought about ignoring it but something told her to answer. "Hey Sam" she answered with a somewhat nervous sigh. "Lily!" Sam was surprised to hear her voice after so many weeks. "Are you okay? Where have you been?"
"Things are fine. What's up?" She asked. The line got quiet then Lillian heard a defeated sigh, "You were right. The thing… The thing that killed mom is a demon. Not that we didn't believe you but that we weren't prepared." He stopped talking for a second and took in a deep breath, Lillian listened as he continued. "We found dad. He's okay. This hunter, Daniel Elkins. He had this gun right, Samuel Colt's colt. We didn't think it was real until we found it. It can kill anything. It can kill the demon. We are going to go after it together, I think you should be with us."
She paused for a moment trying to think of what to say. It was a lot to take in. She's heard of the colt and thought it was just a tall tale sort of thing. They found John and they are going after Azazel. Did John and Dean want her around though? "Are you the only one looking for me?" Lillian finally spoke.
"When Dad found Dean and I together he wanted to know why you weren't with us. He got mad we chased you off, said you shouldn't be by yourself."
She rolled her eyes at that. Hunting on her own for so long and John still thinks she can't be on her own. "Sounds like him. Where are you guys?"
"Manning, Colorado."
Only an hour away from her destination now she was on the road for a while. She'd rather just teleport but Lillian knew she couldn't snap her fingers and be there without raising questions. So she drove and drove. Things were much simpler before she had the option of flying.
Once she arrived at the motel her family was at she pulled up and parked her car next to Deans impala. Getting out of the car and walking up to their room she knocked on the door. It swung open aggressively. Dean was the one to open the door looking out with a angry look on his face which turned into a look of surprise then a bit of guilt. Lillian turned to Sam walking in past Dean "Did you not tell anyone I was coming?" Sam gave her a nervous smile and walked up to her pulling her into a hug. "I missed you, I'm sorry" he said muffled in her hair.
"I'm sorry too." Lillian said into Sams chest. She didn't really mean it though. She was trying to keep them safe. Turning around standing from a chair was John. Awkward.. She thought. It had been a long time since she last saw him. He gave her a tearful smile and pulled her into a hug "You grew up so much."
"Hi." She said while awkwardly putting her arms limply around him. She felt weird, she can't forget what happened the last time they saw each other. She can't forget the way he treated her growing up. The way he would push her around. Tried to make her a solider, never having a chance to be a child. Surrogate father or not she tried to give him a chance multiple times after meeting Gabriel (before accepting Gabriel as her father) and he failed. Now every time Lillian sees him and has to address him as Dad it puts a bad taste in her mouth, he was never a father to her. He failed them.
When she pulled away Lillian turned to Dean. Fidgeting with her fingers she felt anxious about seeing him again. Dean could visibly see the change in her demeanor and eased up. Knowing what he knows now from his Dad he wasn't as mad as he was before.
Dean walked up to Lillian and put a hand on her shoulder grabbing her attention. She was zoned out at the floor. Once contact was made she looked up into his eyes. Green met green and she was able to see he wasn't angry anymore. She was happy he wasn't. Though a part of her was upset. How dare they get upset with me for keeping this detail from them but not when John does? They forgive me because they get information confirmed from John?? That's unfair.. She thought to herself. He pulled her into a hug and she hugged him back. They all seemed to be okay for the most part.
After their awkward reunion they all got caught up. Lillian couldn't shake off John's lingering gaze every now and then. John told her and the boys everything he knew about Azazel and and the colt. She kept her thoughts to herself not wanting to cause trouble or raise questions. Most of his information was accurate anyways. Though she's unsure if the colt really will kill him and it made her uneasy, he isn't like any other demon, he's one of the first demons. A prince of hell. Who knows what the colt will and won't work on. Lillian was told by the boys that it worked on a vampire that John killed. What if they find out about me and use it on me? And it works? She thought to herself.
"So this is it. This is everything I know. Look, our whole lives we been searching for this demon right? Not a trace, just...nothing. Until about a year ago. For the first time I picked up a trail." John said looking at the trio. Sam and Dean looked at their dad listening. Lillian listened too, looking around the room. She looked off at the walls. They were covered with notes, pictures and hieroglyphics and so much more all concerning Azazel. She perked her head back towards her brothers when she heard Dean say "What's the trail you found on the demon?"
"It started in Arizona, then New Jersey, California. All houses are burned to the ground. It's going for the families like it did with us." John answered. Sam looked up at John "With infants?" he questioned. John nodded, "The night of their 6 month birthday." Bouncing her leg Lillian looked to Sam feeling he was was tense. Taking a quick glance towards his left at her "We were 6 months old that night?" Sam asked, Lillian looked at John. John looked towards both of them nodding, "Exactly 6 months."
Lillian pitched in now "So the babies are what the demon is going after for some reason, did it want both of us?" She genuinely didn't know. Did it want her? What was Azazel's goal? What if this was all her fault in some way? "So mom's death, Jessica… It's all because of me?" Sam spoke and it broke Lillian's chain of thoughts. "We don't know that Sam" Dean tried to reassure. "I'd say we are pretty damn sure!" Sam raised his voice.
Lillian knitted her eyebrows together, calmly yet aggressively raising her voice, trying not to awake what's within her, " If that's what you're saying… then it's just as much my fault too. You weren't the only one in the nursery Sam. You want to put their deaths on me too?" She gave him an exhausted look. Standing up she walked out of the motel to get some air. Sam looked to John wanting to go after her to fix his screw up but John stopped him "Leave her, we have more to talk about."
They are on the road now on their way to Iowa following a trail on Azazel. Lillian is riding in the back of the Impala with Dean and Sam as usual. John is in his truck in front of them on his own. They've been on the road for a little while now when Dean starts pulling off. "What are you-" She notices he's following John who's also pulling over.
Once parked John and Dean both get out. Lillian heard John cursing while hitting his truck and Dean questioning him. Her and Sam get out of the car and walk towards the two older men. "Jim Murphy's dead." John said distressed. Sam tilted his head "Pastor Jim?" Lillian looked over at him with worry. John nodded "How?" She asked looking back over to John. Looking more upset as the words poured out of his mouth John answered "His throat was slashed, bled out." Lillian looked over to Sam who looked distressed. That's a terrible way to go. Pastor Jim was always good to her and her brothers. Taking care of them whenever John dropped them off to go work on a case. He didn't deserve that.
John continued "Caleb said there was traces of sulfur found at Jim's place." They all looked at each other knowing what that meant. "A demon" Dean answered. "The demon!?" Dean questioned. "We don't know, He could've gotten careless, slipped up. Maybe the demon knows we are getting close." John said. Dean looked at John serious "What do you want to do?"
"Right now we act like every second counts. There's two hospitals and a health center in the county. Split up and cover more ground. Get me records. I need a list of every infant that's gonna be 6 months old in the next week" John ordered. Sam looked at him like he was crazy "Dad, that could be dozens of kids, how the hell do we know which one will be the right one?" John looked at him sure of himself "We are gonna check them all. Do you got any better ideas?" "No sir" Sam said quietly while turning to get back in the car. Lillian stepped back in done listening. Dean and John were still talking, she could hear them but wanted to get back on the road. She wanted to get back on the hunt and find Azazel.
They split up into three groups, Lillian and Sam were together, Dean went on his own, and John on his own. Sam and Lillian spend a tedious amount of time writing down names and dates into notebooks. Once they are sure they have it all done and double checked it they head out.
As they were walking out Sam started moving his head funny. Lillian turns her head in his direction. "Sammy?" She asked him. He ignored her and grabbed his head as if whatever phenomenon that was happening was intensifying. She then stepped in front of him. Reaching up to put both of her hands on his shoulders to steady him "Sam? Sammy?" Should I try healing him? Would he notice? She thought to herself. "Are you okay?" His head jerked to the side, he looked as if he was gonna fall over as he whispered "a train." She grabbed him, pulling him up. "What?"
"A train!" He told her crazily "I saw a train." She understood now "Did you just have a vision?" He ignored her a took out a map. Grabbing her closer and pointing to the map where he was looking, "Look, there's a train here, I heard it in my vision. I have a feeling about this." She looked up at him feeling his breath on her forehead. She's unsure to trust the visions and what's becoming of her brother but she doesn't what to deny him of what he believes in. "I'll help you."
On the way Sam had gotten another vision but they had gotten there. Standing in front of a white house Sam spoke up "That's what I saw. I saw that house." Lillian looked at him acknowledging him. Sam looked over and saw a woman with a baby in a stroller, "I saw that woman too.." Before Lillian could say anything to him, Sam took off.
"Hi. Let me hold that you look like you don't need that anymore." Sam said, offering to hold the woman's umbrella. The woman thanked him. Lillian did an awkward run across the street catching up with her short legs. "She's gorgeous. Is she yours?" Sam questioned the woman as Lillian finally caught up. She slapped Sam on the arm.
"Don't be a creep, leave the woman alone" Lillian said politely smiling at the lady. "I'm just trying to make small talk with the neighbors" Sam said giving her a squinty eyed stern look. "You live around here?" the woman questioned. "Ah I'm sorry, I'm rude I'm Sam. We just moved up the block." Sam shook her hand. Lillian shook her hand as well "I'm Lillian." The woman was kind and introduced herself as well "Hey I'm Monica, this is Rosie. You two make a lovely couple." Sam and Lillian looked at each other with distaste but played along for the sake of the scenario. "Hello Rosie" "Hi Rosie" They both greeted the baby. "How old is she? She's such a good baby" Lillian asked looking down at the baby. "I know right! She never cries, just stares at everyone. Sometimes she looks at you and it's like she's reading your mind. She's 6 months today. She's big right?" Sam and Lillian look at each other quickly then back to Monica. "Yeah.." Lillian said. "Well you take care of yourself?" Sam said wanting to go. "Yeah. We'll see you both around" Monica said walking off.
As Lillian and Sam started walking away Sam started having another vision. She just held his shoulders again to steady him. If only I could see what he sees. Enter his mind. It Appears his visions have been coming much faster, but not less painful. As soon as his vision ended they made their way back to the motel to meet back with John and Dean.
Sam had to come clean about his visions to John. There was no way he couldn't not say anything about how he found this baby. John is too much of a hard ass that would drill Sam. He would've found out one way or another. As soon as we got back and were settled in, Sam still had a headache but we decided it would be best for him to come clean. He told John but John couldn't seem to wrap his head around it.
"A vision?" John asked.
"Yes" Sam clarified, "I saw the demon burning a woman on the ceiling."
"So you think it's going to happen to this woman you both met because?" John asked.
"Because these things happen exactly the way I see them." Sam said in an obvious tone. Dean pitched in now "It started out with nightmares, then he started to have them while he was awake." Lillian was nodding while listening acknowledging everything her brothers were saying, nervous that this was going to go wrong and turn into an argument at any moment.
"It's almost like the closer I get to anything involving the demon, the stronger the visions get" Sam said. Lillian looked at him with her eyebrows knitted together, now upset, "You never thought to mention that part before Sam? Does that sound like a good thing to relish in? I know you can't help the visions but shit now it's like you are asking for negative. With what you just said it sounds like the demon could somehow be controlling the visions in some way…" her voice was filled with anger. Sam looked at her hurt that his sister seemed to be turning against him. John must've felt it was his turn now because he asked "You're sister has a point, when were you gonna tell me about this?"
"We didn't know what it meant" Dean said hastily.
John's anger seemed to be rising now, "Something like this starts happening to your brother, you pick up the phone and call me!" Lillian started laughing. How ironic. "Call you?! Are you kidding me?!" Dean started going off on John now. Lillian and Sam looked to the floor wanting to look anywhere but John. "Getting you on the phone.. I got a better chance of winning the lottery!"
"You're right. I'm not real crazy about this new tone of yours, but you're right. I'm sorry." John tried to apologize. Lillian rolled her eyes. "Look guys visions or not, we know the demon is coming tonight. This family is gonna go through the same hell we did" Sam reminded. John looked serious "No, they won't. No one will ever again."
Sam's phone started ringing and he picked it up. He seemed confused as to who it was but then recognized the caller as a woman named Meg. "The last time I saw you, you fell out of a window" he said into the phone. Lillian looked alarmed with wide eyes up at Dean. Dean mouthed 'later' hencing they can catch up later. Still confused feeling like she's not caught up on the lore of her brothers lives she sat at the edge of her chair waiting for what's next. Sam then put John on the phone. The trio of siblings waited as John walked off to talk to Meg.
Once John is off the phone Sam first questioned "You think Meg is possessed by a demon?" "She obliviously is Sam" Lillian said slightly annoyed with her brothers stupidity in the situation. John nodded "Either she's that or possessed by one. I'm going to Lincoln."
"What?" Dean asked. "It don't seem like I have much of a choice. A lot of people die if I don't go. Our friends will die" John answered.
"But dad, the demon is coming tonight for Monica and her family. The colt is all we have, you can't hand it over." Sam said upset. "Who said anything about handing over? Besides us and a couple vampires, no one has ever really seen the gun. No one knows what it looks like." John said finding a solution. "You gonna just get a ringer from a pawn shop?" Dean questioned. "Antique store."
"You can't hand a demon a fake gun hoping she doesn't notice, what if she tests it?" Lillian spoke up. "Well hopefully she won't. If she does then we will figure that out when get there. She shouldn't be able to tell the difference between the guns. I just need a few hours is all" John protested. This is going to go so wrong, Lillian thought.
"You mean for us. You want us to stay here. Kill the demon by ourselves." Sam was melancholy. He wanted to kill the demon as a family.
"No, Sam I want to stop losing people we love. I want you to go to school. I want Dean to have a home. I want Lillian to have a husband and kids." John turned around tearing up "I want Mary alive..."
The next day they were getting everything in order and gearing up. Lillian was riding with Dean to meet up with John and Sam. They had just picked up a look a like gun to replace the colt. Once again that night she had another dreamless sleep. She doesn't know what she's doing wrong. She misses the angel she used to see. The connection they had…
Dean and Lillian pulled up to where her brother and John were. Getting out of the car Dean handed the gun in a bag over to John. John took it out and inspected it while Dean looked at him saying "You know this is a trap right? That's why she wants you to come alone"
"He's right, Azazel obviously is planning this whole thing for the same night he attacks another family for a reason." Lillian chimed in.
"I can handle her. I got a whole arsenal loaded" John started listing everything off when Dean cut him off, "Dad promise me something."
"What's that?"
"If this all goes south, just get the hell out. Don't get yourself killed okay? You aren't any good to us dead" Dean asked. They looked at each other for a moment before John said "Same goes for you," he nodded to the three of them "all of you."
Then John continued taking out the real colt, "Listen up, they made the bullets special for this colt. There's only four of them. Without them, the gun is useless. You better make every shot count." The trio looked at him and said "Yes sir" in unison.
"This fight is up to you kids now. You finish what I started." John handed the colt to Dean. "I'll see you later." Sam walked to stand by Dean and Lillian to watch his father drive off.
Lillian in the back seat of the impala once again was with her brothers. They were in front of Monica's house staking out. Waiting for Azazel to make his move. Sam was trying to come up with suggestions to get the family out of the house. It never really works though. "We could just tell them the truth, they will find out eventually" Lillian suggested. Her brothers looked at her for a moment then they all started laughing. "Yeah yeah that's a long shot."
"This doesn't seem real. How we are here after all these years" Sam sighed out thinking. Dean nodded in acknowledgement "We just gotta keep our heads and do our job like always." "I get what you mean Sammy, this moment feels too good to be honest now that we are here. Like it really is here. We've been building up to this literally our whole lives" Lillian agreed.
They sat in silence for a moment and then Sam spoke "I want to thank you guys." They looked at him confused. He looked back and both of them as they looked at him to continue, "For everything. You guys always had my back. If I ever feel alone or feel like I can't count on anyone I know I have my brother and sister. I um.. I want you guys to know just in case." Dean wasn't having any of this "Enough, are you kidding?"
"What?" Sam asked confused. "Don't say that just in case something happens to you nonsense. I don't wanna hear that freaking speech man. no one is dying." "Dean stop" Lillian said not wanting Dean to embarrass Sam further. "It's sweet that Sam cares about us. Anything could happen." She reached over the seat and hugged Sam. "Thank you Sammy." Sam hugged her back, as she pulled away she gave him a slobbery kiss on the cheek, his cheeks turned red. Then she turned to Dean with arms stretched. "Do not" he said with a pointed finger and a stern look.
After a while of waiting Dean tried calling John to check in but he wasn't picking up. "Doesn't sound unusual to be honest" Lillian commented. "Cell reception could be bad, Meg could be late" Sam said trying to be hopeful. Then all of a sudden the car radio started sounding funny. Dean didn't notice it though. Sam started playing with the knobs "Dean listen." It was a grating sound. Then the wind started picking up and the lights around the block started flickering. The brothers and sister looked to one another "It's coming."
They all got out of the car ready for the demon and what awaited. Running up to the house and breaking in easily. They were scoping the inside when a man swings a bat at Dean "Get out of my house!"
"Wasn't expecting that…" Lillian said under her breath.
Dean tackled him. "Be quiet and listen. Listen. We are trying to help you. Listen." Monica started calling for who they now know is Charlie. That's when Charlie screamed for Monica "Monica get the baby!"
Sam yelled out to her "Don't go in the nursery!"
Lillian started to run up the stairs after her. Dean was wrestling Charlie. Sam was right behind Lillian. They walked in just in time to see Azazel pinning Monica to the ceiling with his mind. Oh how I wish Sam wasn't here right now. I could have a one off with this yellow eyed fucker. Sam shot Azazel but he teleported away. Monica dropped to the floor and Lillian ran to the crib Grabbing Rosie. That's when the crib set aflame. They ran down the stairs as fast as their legs could carry them.
They all made it out of the house safe. The whole house now set aflame. Charlie was yelling at the siblings to leave. Monica defended them since they saved everyone. She thanked them as well. That's when Sam turned and looked back at the house. Azazel was standing in the flames staring down at them. Taunting them. "He's still in there" Sam tried walking forward to go back in the house.
Dean and Lillian held him back. Sam was crying, screaming, out to be let go. He wanted to finish the job. He needed to avenge the death of his loved ones. To be rid of the overwhelming feelings he's been having. Yet Dean and Lillian held him back as he fought against them. In a blink of an eye the demon was gone.
Once they were sure the family was okay and Sam wasn't going to go kill himself they went back to the motel. Dean tried calling John again and he still wasn't picking up. "Something's wrong" Dean said really worried. Lillian was angry she didn't have anything to say. He looked around at his brother and sister annoyed, "did you hear me, something happened."
"If you had just let me go in there, I could've ended all this." Sam said almost pathetically. Lillian gave him a look as Dean said what they were both thinking "The only thing you would've ended was your life."
"You don't know that."
"You're so stupid." Lillian said shaking her walking out the door
"Look you upset her again.."
Lillian was leaning on the door to the motel room just taking deep breaths. Trying to keep her cool. Not losing her temper. Her brother was acting very foolish and as badly as she wanted to yell at him she couldn't. She heard a thump come from behind the door and walked in.
Sam had Dean pinned against the wall. They had obviously gotten into a fight, she heard shouting. It looked like they we gonna hit each other some more. It didn't seem like they noticed her, too absorbed in whatever heated argument they were in. "ENOUGH!"
They stopped and stared at her. Sam let go of Dean. "We have all lost people. You are not the only one who has the privilege of grief Sam. I don't know what is going on with you entirely but until you can be completely honest, it feels like I'm losing a brother. Sammy you're not yourself these days. If you can't get your shit together then I can't stick around here too long. Abusing each other isn't going to put the demon in the ground any faster."
Dean looked at her agreeing "The four of us it's all we have.. all I have. Without you two and dad-" Sam cut him off pacing the room with wide eyes "Dad.. He should have called by now."
Dean was worried again and dialed his phone. That's when the line picked up. Though all Dean said was "Where is here?" Which caused Sam and Lillian to look up. Sam worried as what happened to his father and Lillian curious about what's going on.
